Msi 865 pro

hi....
when i put a dvd into the lecteur, i have a message which  said : " nonvalid zone " !!!
this problem appears only when the mega 865 is in A/V mode without booting into windows XP operating system.
do you know if it is the number zone of the dvd whiich is not  good, if it is that do you know how to parameterize the mega.
hhhhhhhhheeeellllpppp me!!!!!!

As Stu has said above this is proabably down to Region encoding.
Basically the world is split into zones so Hollywood can make more moeny from us.You have 5 chances to change your DVD region before it is permanently set. My guess is as this is a new build you have not set your region yet.
Go into windows Right click my computer then click properties, then hardware tab  click device manager. On the DVD/CD-ROM DRove click the plus next to your drive, Right click on the drive which appears then properties. On the DVD Region tab Click the Country you want then click OK.This should set you region. France is in Region 2 if you are trying to watch DVD from another Region then you will have problems.
The region on UK DVD is shown on the rear of the case with a wold symbol with a number printed over it to idicate the region.
After you have done all that try again and let us know what has happened.

  • Instant on tv tuner 865 pro

    Hi
I'm in the middle of trying to spec a multimedia pc for home and like the idea of the instant on feature that Msi provide. Could anybody tell me how it basically works?
Also I have read that it only supports the 865pro only supports the msi 865 pro tuner while using instant on but I can't find any info about this tuner card anywhere.
Does the 865 tuner card allow games consoles to be run through it in instant on mode? ie does it have an s-video input?
Cheers any help would be appreciated.

yea it looks like to me its just a live linux like knoppix that lives on the hard drive... for some reson it dosnt like my dvd drive a NEC 2500A.  also becuase i had XP already installed and i didnt want to start over i used partion magic to open up the space it needed on my drive (about 220mb i think... it says in the manuel) and it seems to work fine but partion magic wont run after you install the instant on linux (you can fix this by deleting the partion that it installs useing the Computer Management app and then reinstalling the instant on after partion magic is done)

  • MSI MegaPC 865 PRO Troubles...

    Hello All from Oztralia!
I am having some troubles with a MSI MegaPC 865 PRO, that I'm setting up for our showroom. Essentially, what I assume to be the InstantOn Fancy LED stuff isn't happening. I press the A/V Button on the front, the MegaPC beeps once, the MEGA logo comes up, and then it beeps again. From there, nothing happens. The Volume bar on the LED panel scrolls from side to side, but that's it. Putting an Audio CD or DVD yeilds nothing either.
Other than that, the system seems to go like a train in PC mode.
    It's Specs are:
    Intel P4 3.0 GHz
    1x Amicroe 512MB DDR 400Mhz RAM
The MSI TV Tuner Card (Philips Decoder(?), Conexant Chipset)
Onboard Video, Sound, Network, Modem, Etc.
If anyone can help us out with this Fancy LED thingo, I would be in your debt. Because, it kinda bites when something billed as being this fantastic thing doesn't work properly, customers kinda lose interest. Thanks in advance!

I followed the destructions straight from the MSI Software Guide. I installed the InstantOn software on a fresh 200 Gig SATA, then installed XP Home SP2.
As for installing MCE, I would, but my boss would like to see the MSI box working like it's meant to, as in the A/V button working and everything. I think I'll use MCE for the next one though.
Cheers fellas, for the replies that is.
MODIFICATION: Oh, and the TV card came with the MSI as an option. Surely it would work, otherwise why ship it as an option? Where can I find out if it's compatible?

  • 865 Pro and MSI tv-tuner

Hello. I own a 865 PRO and this MSI tv-tuner http://www.compbyte.de/images/big/barebone_tvtuner.jpg which I havent really had time to care about, but now I want to get it started and connect it so I got a few questions.
    1. Are they even compatible? Because I have problems getting sound from the tuner... I have connected the internal Yellow cable from the tuner to the inside of my 865 PRO. Is that enough? In the manual it say something about a remote cable connector but I cant seem to locate this inside my barebone.
    2. Where can I find drivers online for that tv-tuner?
    3. Does the tuner work in other pc's and not only in MSI's barebones?
    4. Any drivers that work with Windows Media Center?
Thanks in advance for anyone that would like to answe

you should be able to use the drivers for the TV@nywhere Master, it is basically the same card, but without the FM radio chipset

  • Mega 865 Pro Remote Control and MCE

    Hello peeps,
Does anyone know if there is a way of getting the input from the remote control on the 865 Pro to emulate keyboard presses.
I use Album Player (www.albumplayer.com) and you can set it up so it will change tracks etc.. by keyboard presses, it would be handy if this could be done by remote control.
(I've since seen that there is a post in this link https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=91685.0 that might help, but if anyone has any tips in the meantime let me know)
    Thanks

Stu, you obviously didnt properly read the System Control Manager thread that I created.
    niblet,
yes you can quite easily do it, please see the System Control Manager thread created by me. It details how to do it.

  • 865 pro and mce 2005

Has anyone try Microsoft MCE 2005 on the new 865 PRO?
Can you use a mce-certified tv card in combination with the "power off" radio function?
Is the onboard graphics card 128mb and mce compatible?
    thanx

the megapc 180 has an onboard radio function, has then 865 pro the same funtion? or is in included in the tv-card. So only radio function without pc modes is important for me.
Quote from: Dr Stu on 03-August-05, 06:26:20
well, i can tell you that the onboard graphics are NOT mce compatible, so you'd need a compatible AGP card
as far as i can tell, the InstantOn feature (i presume thats what you meant!) only supports TV with MSI's own card (which would appear to be some sort of Winfast card, which itself isn't MCE compatible)

  • VGA for MEGA 865 Pro

    Hi,
I am an owner of a MEGA PC 865 Pro and i would like to install a VGA card. Which one would you propose in order to fit the box and the PSU (220W)?
I need it for gaming such as SimCity4, Civ4, Age of Empires III, etc., not for FPS or driving and flying simulators.

the best suggestions were made here:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=95111.0
i'm pretty sure i saw elsewhere that ATI Radeon cards don't have as high power requirements as Nvidia's, certainly there have been plenty of users using 9800Pros and 6600s with little trouble

  • Best Graphics and Tuner Card for 865 Pro with XP MCE (Maybe Vista?)

    Hi all,
I'm looking at rebuilding my 865 Pro
I haven't upgraded the graphics so what do people recommend as the best AGP card for the 865 Pro
I have the MSI tuner but I am looking a ditching instant on for MCE would like to get a idea for digital tuning card (I'm in the UK). Would anybody recommend using a combined AGP/Tuner card like the ATI All in Wonder cards or using a USB Tuner?
I am thinking I will have to stick with XP because of driver support. I have dual boot to Vista at the moment but the wifi doesn't work.
    Idea and Suggestions welcome
    Danny

    Thanks for the reply Stu.
I tried installing the XP wi-fi driver in Vista and I couldn't get it to work. I didn't try harder as the Mega 865 Pro is not supposed to be Vista compatible.
Is there a 3rd party driver I should try?
The reason I would like to upgrade the graphics is to have the option to play some games and I am beginning to find limitation with the on board graphics. I tried to check out second life on the mega the other week and it wouldn't set up because the graphics wasn't up to it.
I have tried installing a dedicated APG card before - the Gigabyte nVidia Geforce 6600 with heatpipe passive cooling.
It is a great card but I found every now and then the PC would crash with it running. It is a very tight fit with the TV tuner card and the airflow wasn't good.
So I am looking at using a small APG card or replacing the tuner. That’s why a combined card seemed to make sense and would free up the PCI slot.
As power is a problem for some graphics cards is upgrading the PSU an option?
    Thanks
    Danny

  • Help with mega 865 pro and maxtor sata 6L300S0

i have a mega 865 pro i just install a new HDD model maxtor sata 6L300S0 300 GB and it is very slow on the mega i contact maxtor and they say i have to verify if i have correct SATA driver installed. but everything looks ok on the system. where i can download that driver again? any one can help me?
    What im doing wrong?

I'm having the same problem with my Mega 865 pro and my Maxtor 6l200mo (200gb).
Seems to boot up fine, dosn't take any longer to load up startup items than my old system. Though using pretty much any program results in the system pausing and stuttering for a few seconds. I have noticed it most recenltly when watching video files (mpeg/divx). While i'm watching a video, it will keep pausing at random times.....sometimes every 5 seconds....sometimes every 5 mintues. It does the same when i'm not connected to the internet too, and does the same if I am simply playing mp3s or just on the internet! When it seems to do it most is like now! I have an mpeg playing (300mb) in a window, and while I am browsing the internet and even typing this post, it is pausing for a few seconds which is really frustrating! My old system was pretty similar spec to my current Msi system, though it wasn't a barebones system and was slighty lower spec. That worked flawlessly doing the same tasks so my guess is it must be an Ata problem. Another Mega865 gripe that is bugging me!
Any help will be much appreciated. Cheers!
P.s My hd Tach results were pretty much the same as centarlrocks

  • A good news for MPC 865 PRO users

the original thread was posted on MSI chinese forum, one guy said he want to buy a tv tuner card for his 865 pro, since the card is  not on sale now,MSI CHINA gave him a beta card, and he found the beta card was WINFAST TV 2000!!!! i don't know if it was true that tv2000 can be used on 865 pro(both PC and instantON mode) because i don't have 865 pro and tv2000 card, but who have 865 pro should have a try,tv 2000 is  not expensive as MSI's original card,in china,tv 2000 only cost 200 rmb(about 25 dollars)

Hello there, I'm from Indonesia, I've just bought MEGAPC 865 PRO about a week ago. My system using Winfast TV2000XP expert edition from Leadtek, as this card is the only type recommended by MSI distributor in my country. It's true that this tv tuner works, but I've found some malfunctions while using TV program with instant-on.
    1) When using 'antenna' option as tv source, each channel scanned will result in good picture but the voice sound robotic (unclear). I changed the tv source using cable-tv line, the channel will resulted in good picture and sound, but I've lost some channels. Cable-tv program supposed to be 16 channels, while using 'antena' option in tv source I received only 10 channels and using 'cable' option I received only 11 channels. So where the rest of the channels go?
    2) The tv mode on instant on built with 'program saving' where you can save your favorite channel, however you can't sort which channel that you want to save.
    3) The FM radio does not works.
    4) No user guide/manual for instant-on
Fortunately, all of the above problems not existed if you are running in Windows XP mode, and the TV performance is much better (better picture and sound). The sad thing is, I feel like paying too much for instant-on capabilities.
I've contacted the local MSI customer support but they claimed that the problem didn't occured while they're doing  my system set up. But they have forward my complain to MSI's head office. I've also send an e-mail to MSI customer support but it's been a week and they are not replying yet.
If you have tried Winfast TV 2000 and not experiencing the same way as I do, please let me know. Perhaps I should change or update my system setting?

  • FOUND: Mega 865 Pro Official TV Tuner (sort of)

Well after numerous emails back and forth to MSI's technical service deptartment, I have received the following answer:
"The S36-0000281-L49 is the correct [and only] tuner card to use with the Mega 865Pro PC in order to function under Instant On and Home Theater applications."
What is this card you ask, well if you type in the model number at msicomputer.com you get a description of the "MEGA 865 Pro TV Tuner Card". http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=MEGA_865_Pro_TV_Tuner_Card&class=gs
It has the same chipset as the TV@nywhere Master (Conexant CX23883). There is no picture of the card, link to purchase the card, or any support for the card (ie drivers, manuals). I asked MSI if this is a real card, or something that they intended to sell in the future and they responded that "it has been out on the market for awhile and since the unit has been phased out, you can contact our sales team for the card availability: http://www.msicomputer.com/company/Sales_inquiries.asp".
I ran a google on the model number and the name of the card which turned up one site apparently selling this card (different model number): http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=17418&vpn=MS-236-000028&manufacture=MicroStar
Apparently this is the elusive optional TV Tuner that MSI does not advertise anywhere on their websites. Does it work or even exist? Beats me.

Look, do what most of us have done, by a hybrid digital analogue FM/ or dual digital tv tuner card and forget about instanton and home theater
    use MCE 2005.
using XP Hibernate is just as fast as instantOn anyway

  • Win XP installation failure on MEGA 865 PRO

    I'm fighting with my  MEGA 865pro, Celeron D 341,2x256 RAM, HDD Maxtor 200GB SATA , DVD-RW LG.
Everything went ok up to the XP installation, i.e. I installed instant-On on an empty disk (it runs and works). Then I boot a Win XP install CD, and it hangs a second after displaying the initial message: "..detecting hardware....". The HDD access led stays on. The same for XP SP1 and SP2. Any BIOS tweaking does not help.
After XX tries, I found out the SATA HDD is the bad guy, as the XP setup goes ok if I use my old ATA disk, or even if I use both the SATA and the ATA disks.
Interestingly, Win 2000 installs *without any problems* (but then InstantOn does not boot)!!!  Gentoo and Ubuntu linux work as well.
I'm trying to install the absolutely standard and ("only") recommended configuration, so what ... :(
I've seen few posts about this here and there (e.g. https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=85690.msg616103#msg616103), but no solutions so far :((((
    Thanx
    viz

Dunno if you allready did, but you need to have the latest BIOS to run Win XP SP2 on the MEGA 865 Pro. When i bought mine, Sp2 wasn't out yet and things worked fine. When i tried installing SP2, everything went fine, untill i boot. Black screen and nothing, after a while MSI released a new BIOS fixing the problem, newest BIOS i think is 1.30

  • System Control Manager on Mega 865 Pro

    Hi,
I Have a Mega 865 Pro, I would list whats in it but do not consider that any of this would help.
The system has the System Control Manager software installed which allows for you to use the buttons on the front of the system within Windows XP, if the software is not installed or running then one of the problems is when you use the CD eject key the system will restart.
The software runs normally on my account where I'm an admin.  However, if I have any other accounts running then the software will not run with the following message.
    MGSYSCTRL
    Detecting Model type failed!
You may not run this program correctly
Can anyone assist in making sure that I do not give my kids admin access under Windows XP?
    Thanks
    Rob

    Update.
This has now been resolved by performing the following.
1, Download the bios update using the link below, the MSI update utility never reconised that there was a newer version of the bios available.
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/download/dld/spt_dld_detail.php?UID=602&kind=4
This fixed the reboot issues when using the eject cdrom button!!
2, The System Control Manager cannot be used under a non admin account, this was corrected by performing the following.
export from mthe registry, and then delete:-
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    "MGSysCtrl"="C:\\Program Files\\MSI\\System Control Manager\\MGSysCtrl.exe"
    And Change to:-
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    "MGSysCtrl"="C:\\Program Files\\MSI\\System Control Manager\\MGSysCtrl.exe"
Then run the new on the Admin account only.
Hope this helps some of you!
    Regards
    Rob

  • Building mega 865 pro pc...

    hey..
i've just bought my brand new mega 865 pro and havn't got a clue what to put inside it..
i think i'll go for the pentium 4 3.0ghz.. but after that, i'm not sure what is compatible with it..
need 512mb ram.. basic stuff (what's compatible??)
don't need a gfx card or sound card..
would need about a 200gig hd.. (should i get SATA?.. what's the difference?)
my biggest worry is the dvd-rw and tv card as i heard many are not compatible...
i would like a basic tv card that can take advantage of all of the built in msi features.. can anybody recommend one?
    thanks,
    all help appreciated,
    scrappy.

you can't use high density ram in the 865 PRO - it wont boot.
SATA is the way of the future, might as well go for it. the only real difference at this stage is that the SATA cable is smaller, thinner and better for air flow. (I removed my extra IDE cable as I'm using SATA)
You shouldnt have any problems with DVD-RW.
As for the TV card, go digital. forget the MSI TV card that works with the 865  it only does analog. Forget about instant on too. its crap, just use hibernate or S3 standby, it will turn your pc on just as fast.

  • 865 Pro + DVB-T + DVI

I am user of the original 865 with DVB-T + n-vidia (DVI output) card + dual layer optical DVD+RW (in the time I purchased it, MSI did not produce DL). I was unhappy that:
    1) LG optical drive does not play music correctly (typical 1 or 2 noises during each song) in the HiFi mode
    2) HiFi mode does not play TV/DVD
    3) MSI application does not support DVB-T (I have to use separate application packed with the DVB-T card), then I had 2 IR remote controllers
Now, I saw 865 PRO and I am thinking to buy it, but:
    a) if it support in the Instant on mode DVB-T
    b) if it support in the Instant on mode additional graphic card (DVI output + separate - non shared - memory/RAM)
I understand, that Instantmode is a small Linux core + small multimedia (DVD player, TV tuner etc.) application. MSI shall support different "images" of Linux for different tuners (analog/digital, at least 1 digital or the MSI Dualanalog/digital TV card) + different basic video cards (MSI basic nVidia/ATI chips) also with DVI output.

from what has been posted already, it has been suggested that the InstantOn only works with the integrated VGA, and MSI's own 865PRO TV tuner card
you're right though, InstantOn is a small Linux installation, but obviously no extra drivers have been included to support additional devices - which i consider disappointing as the 865PRO doesn't even have TV-out as standard
my personal belief is that the InstantOn is a nice idea - but you could easily acheive the same effect by leaving Windows in standby when not in use - thus when you start the system back up, within seconds windows is "instant on"
