MSI CD-RW 48-A2 Burner

?(  I just bought this drive and it works ok , but it only burns cd's at 24x max and i have tried 3 different types of cd-r's and 2 different types of burning software. all being 48x. Also if i go to hardware manager it shows the drive being a generic atapi cd rw , not an MSI drive. Any ideas why 24x is all i can get and yes dma is checked and I have XP Professional with SP1
Any Help Would Be Appreciated

I have same problem. Mine always burn at 16x although choose 48x.
Now i know why, it's because i choose DAO/96 instead of DAO.
Finally i can simulate at 48x, only if i choose DAO. I haven't try TAO and writing with DAO yet.
If i'm correct, then it's strange as no one know this??
It shouldn't be hard. Technician should know it??? or ..?

  • MSI DR8-A Dual layer burning?

i would like to ask if MSI would release a firmware for the DR8A that would support dual layer burning? ive read this article at http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/4863.cfm which is for the pioneer dvd burner which states that they might release a firmware that would enable dual layer burning without upgrading the hardware itself. and also another thing that ive read was benq dvd burners will also release an update firmware that would support dual layer burning. http://www.cdfreaks.com/news/8616.
i would be glad to hear if MSI would release such a firmware upgrade.

    hi guys,
found this on sony website ...  will msi release a new dual layer burning drive or just update the existing bios like the pioneer would do...

  • MSI 6380 Problem with DVD burner

    Hello
I have a prob with my new DVD burner. Maybe someone of oyu has any idea what could be the prob.
I have an Athlon XP 2400 (T-Bred) on my board (MSI Kt7 266, MSI 6380 v2). I have done the C37 mod and removed the cap. Everything worked fine. Processor correctly recognized etc.
First my old DVD burner and my old DVD-ROM stopped working (means they didn't react to any commands anymore, I pres sejecct and nothing happens...) and after thorough testing (different combinations with correct jumper setting master/slave/CS..., new cable...) I thought they're broken and got a new DVD burner. But after installing this one - sampe problem.
This is the problem in deatils: The bios does recognize the burner in autodetection in the bios or with the setting "auto". Then it says "DVD" for the respective IDE channel and during bootpu it shows the correct name of theburner (LG GSA-4163). But the drive does not react on commands. If I press eject the lamp on the drive starts blinking but nothing happens, the tray does not open. It blinks a few times then blinks a few times very fast but nothing happens. The drive is listed in the explorer in WIN but I cannot access it. Also, the device manager shows no problem. All my HDD's work fine even on the same IDE channel.
Does anyone encounter a similiar rpoblem or have any idea how to solve this?
    Thanks.

I got another psu, more powerful then my old one. Same problem though. Can it be that this is the third optical drive in a row that fails?
Strange is that with the new psu (3,3-28A, 5V-35A, 12V-26A, 410W combined, ANTEC Truepower) my hardware monitor shows that for all the power the values are lower compared to my old psu. It shows 3,26 V 4,9V and 11,7V repsectively. With the other psu all values were higher. Is that an error or does this new psu suck?

  • MSI GS70 Stealth Pro 2PE - Burning issue!

Dear MSI forum users, I am here to ask your opinion on my experience with this laptop, for the most part it is a good machine, but I have experienced a few issues...
First off I noticed that the Space bar only worked on the left side of the bar or the middle, pressing from the right never worked and you had to push down hard to get the left side to respond, I thought maybe it's just a defective key, but upon googling I saw that other users were reporting this, I also noticed the trackpad is abysmal and trying to use it for left and right click is useless, luckily you can disable it and use the mouse supplied with the laptop.
Anyway, when I noticed the space bar issue I thought it such an issue that I should RMA the laptop, to see if the bar could be fixed, however the exchange I had with the technical support guy at OCUK (where I bought the laptop from and have been a loyal customer for years) simply said the following "no one else has contact us about a faulty spacebar. It may just be that is how they are designed and a replacement will not fix the issue. Laptop keyboards are not generally the best as they have to be compact and slim to not avoid conflict with other components."
well that to me didn't seem right, having spend £1450 on a laptop you expect the components to be in working order, I had previously purchased 3 x MSI GX740 from them and all of them still work currently, none of them ever having space bar or track pad issues, nevertheless I had to continue with this laptop since they would not repair it.
The laptop has been running OK over the past year, but I have noticed two more very strange occurrences in the operation of it now.
First off, there's a video of the sound it is making, its like there's a fan in there trying to spin up, but falling back down at the last hurdle. THIS HAPPENS CONSTANTLY, from boot to shut down, it doesn't ever stop doing it.
Please search for my channel Daniel Sharpe on you tube as the forum won't let me post external links :S the video is titled MSI GS70 2PE Fan Failure?
now heres something that really concerns me, for my health mainly, the laptop is running so hot it is leaving burn marks on my legs through trousers, I have got a cooling pad now, but even still I NEVER had any issues with heat dissipation on the MSI GX740 models, no cooler needed it sits on my lap fine and does not burn me, but this one does?!
here are some pictures, the left leg is worse, it fades slightly overnight but yesterday it was purple, I spoke to a doctor who said he has never seen anything like it in his life, it looked like chilblains to him but obviously with the opposite cause, his advice was that prolonged use could cause long term damage, but even if I use it for an hour it burns me.
however, here are speed fan temps for idle (with a cooling pad now in place)
and here are  speed fan temps for load
and to top it all off the space bar has now come unclipped from the board and won't go back on properly.
So there we have it, there's a few issues with the laptop, I am mainly worried about the heat and the strange sound coming from one of the fans? (I Think)
please let me know what you think I can do, whether MSI would carry out repairs or something, as a laptop, this clearly isn't fit for purpose, as it can't sit on your lap without burning it!

GS series are slim & light models, so their temperature must be high and gathered on the surfaces of the bodies. If you're running demanding apps/games, it's uncomfortable and not recommended to put it on the top of your lap (although it's called a laptop). Some laptops won't have this problem that's just because they are not performance/gaming laptops at all or for office use. Some of the laptops are thick and the temperature was decreased and dissipated by the air flow when the heat propagated to the surface.
The screenshots of the temperature you provided are normal for GS70 2PE. The CPU/GPU temperature did go to such a high temperature (actually their top temperatures are between 100 to 105 before throttling themselves). The surface of the bottm of the laptop may be just several millimeters below the CPU/GPU and thermal pipes, so it's definitely very hot when running CPU/GPU intensive apps/games. If putting on your lap for a long time, it definitely causes the low-temperature burn, like the hazard when attaching some warm bags on your skins for a long time.
Regarding the fan noise & touch problem, I would suggest you insist to ask the service point to inspect, repair or maybe replace them. Fan noise may be due to the quality of the fan after a long period of working, but for keyboard they should have other keyboard parts on which the space problem won't exist. I think this is just a flawed keyboard.
I have a Apple Mac Air in my home and it's very cool, but it can't even run SimCity very well. For GS70 2PE, it's just a piece of cake.
I understand what you are saying in regards to the games and temperature, but it looks more like a design issue to me, the MSI GX740 that I have had for 5 years never burned me and did run most of the latest games at decent settings.
I have dealt with this issue by buying a cooling pad, so I'm satisfied on that front.
I did send a support request to MSI about this computer for the fan, touch pad and keyboard issues, but have received no reply as of yet, is this something I should resend? as I have never contacted them directly for repairs before I am not sure of the process!

  • Help with msi k8n nforce 4 platinum

my processor is a 4400 amd socket 939 dual core.
    os: windows vista with sp1.
    1) i just installed the mobo and boot my pc. vista booted correctly, installed all the new controllers, restarted BUT from that moment i cant use the cool n quiet mode , vista shows that i have 16gb of ram!!! but i have only 2, and the mobo shows that the model of my 4400 is unknown so it cant show the one processor!! it olny shows one processor...
cool and quiet is enabled from the bios. but everest or amd power monitor shows 1,39 volt instead of 1,10 i used to have when the processor worked idle..
    2) how can i change the rate of the ram in bios? in my previous mobo had specific option to choose between 1T or 2T. Now i cant find that option.. can you help me?
Thank you and sorry for my english...

sorry i didnt wrote the solution, i assumed you understood the bios issue.
my mobo had a bios with date 031105 now has the latest bios from the official site of msi
at the beginning a assumed that it had the latest bios because the guy i bought from told me that he had flashed the mobo with the latest bios so i didnt think to look for a bios from the beginning.

  • MSI RX3870-T2D512E-OC v803 bios

hey guys i was wondering if anyone can help me find a bios for my msi 3870-OC v803.  the reason that i am looking for this is b/c i am not satisfied with the standard bios that was released with this card.  The temps of this card are too high IMO.  I have 2 of these cards on is the v120 which has a great fan control setup and i would like one for the v803 that is similar.
the v120 has a fan table in bios that looks like this::
    Threshold temp | 0 | 50 | 70 | 80 | 85 | 90 | 95 | 100 |
    Fan speed        |52| 70| 80 | 100| 100|100 |100| 100 |
but the v803 has a fan table of::
    threshold temp | 60 | 65 | 70 | 75 | 80 | 85 | 90 | 98 |
    fan speed        | 30 | 41 | 50 | 61 | 70 | 81 | 90 | 100|
so with that being said i am wondering if there has been a bios made for the v803 with a similar table and based on the .073 bios instead of the .067 bios.  the difference in temps is huge  v120 runs 33c idle and ~45c load but the v803 runs 45c idle and ~65c-70c load.  now i know that they are well within the safe range as far as temp goes but it is my experience that the cooler something runs the longer it lasts.  I also know that the v120 is MSI's card design and the v803 is ATi's design but they use the same fan and H/S setup so one would think that they would cool the same if the fans are set the same. I have tried editing the v803 bios with RBE 109 and it doesnt seem to be accepting the new table.  so what it all boils down to is that i want to know if there is a v803 bios that have a better fan table to it.  any ideas would be great.  thank you, Von

the other option is save the bios of the v120 and apply it to the other card, if the 2 cards are based on the reference model by ATI i don't think that causes any problem at all.
You should not.... I've ever tried, but as it is not really same cards, it does not work well.
I'll test your solution with RivaTuner.
The best would be that MSI really work on VGA BIOS.... and have the possibility to download it directly as we do for motherboard, without using Live Update.
I had bad experience in the past with MSI products (several motherboard chipsets burned, capacitors, stability... without overclocking) and it's confirmed again.

  • Problems with wireless usb adapter on MSI K8NGM-V

    Hi!
I have a 3Com (3crusb20075) wireless usb adapter, and a MSI K8NGM-V Mainboard. Very often the usb disconnects from the network and i have to reinsert it to work again. A friend of mine have the exact same adapter and that one fails too. He uses mine without problems. I therefore belive that this is a problem with the usb ports on my mainboard. Have anyone heard of anything like this? I wanted to try to update my bios but i don't have a floppy so msi live update wouldnt let me, and i could find the bios files on the msi webpage so i cant burn them on a bootable cd. Help please
(I trying turning of power save mode on the usb adapter, without any luck. Tested it in linux. Same result)
    Alex

The ability to access the network, but not the Internet, typically indicates that the computer is not able to either find or negotiate with the DNS servers. The proper DNS servers would be provided by your ISP using DHCP. In turn, the AirPort would use DHCP to provide these to both the wired & wireless computers connected to it.
    Please try the following:
For each PC that is unable to access the Internet, temporarily include the following OpenDNS servers:
    o Primary: 208.67.222.222
    o Secondary: 208.67.220.220
You would enter these in the network TCP/IP settings for the respective PC's wireless network adapters. You may need to restart the computer in order for these DNS settings to "stick." After restarting, can you access the Internet with either or both of them?

  • CD RW Burners

X( Does anyone have any info' on how to get the new burners to work correctly. I have tried my CR52 (latest firmware) on two different machines with varing results (none satisfactory). When I try to make an image of my "C" drive (Drive Image) the computer locks up (Abit KT7A-Raid). On the non-raid machine Drive image works OK, but the burn speed is very erratic. A 40x is recognized as 32x, and burn speed averages about 16x. Using the so called "High Speed" cd's that come with it, they aare recognized at the correct speed. But, the burn speed is still slow. MSI support suggested I RMA it, but I doubt that would help. Just for comparison, I have a 48x Lite-ON that works perfectly in both computers.
If anyone can help with this $60 "Paper Weight" I would appreciate it.     X(  X(

I needed another burner for a computer I was building for a  relative. Might as well get the newest, I had good luck with MSI video cards, so,  a burner is a burner, right ? Wrong !!! I had to take the one out of my second computer and keep the MSI. Their support suggested RMA, but doubt that would help. I'm reasonably sure it is a firmware issue. I agree about Lite-On, and learned a haard lesson. X(  X(

  • Bad firmware for CR52-A2???

I flash my drive wit varsion 2.10 but from this time ii has problem with reading(with 1.8 was everything alright). it burns quite good but yesterday i can't finish 8cm CD-RW.by lead out it writes 'burning failed' i used nero 6.3.0.3 on Win xp sp1 can some help me?

    Kingfisher,
You replied to Duuri to " flash a second tme" which I have done but still my
CD burner does not see a CD-R ( but will see a CD-RW)
I took the CD-R that the MSI could not see and burned it on another machine.
    ( Used Roxio.)
The first time I flashed it seemed to work but now it doesn't.
How do I get MSI to flash it for me?
I have the latest version of Nero.

  • NEO-F - please give is VCorechange..dont need a fried processor

    Hi,
why are there no VCoreoptions? My E6400 burn with 1.325V if the multi is at 8x. If i set rmlock to 1.162 at multi 8x the vcore are around 1.200 an my temperatures decrease dramaticly around 8-10°C. With DualPrime and 1.325VCore i run ~58°C (read with Coretemp, Everest and rmclock), with ~1.200VCore my max it as ~50°C. This is hard. This high Vcore are unneeded. Also if you be an overclocker than you dont need 1.325V to reach 3GhZ.
Why do MSI this? This bord burn my processor like fried egg - needless. Why?
Here you can see the differences. Dual-Prime. With 1.325VCore i reach ~57°C after a short time (no problem, its OK). With 1.163, what are ~1.200 in windows, the system wont go over 50°C. First half are 1.325 and second half are ~1.200Vcore (read with CPU-Z)

Here is the rmclock-log. In Background Seti @2Cores

  • Boot without floppy?

Im going to update my FW on my DR4-A but my FDD is non-functional. Is there a way to create a bootable cd with files from bootdisk.com or something like that?

If we are still talking about upgrade of firmware for MSI DR-4A DVD dual burner, only files you need are the firmware itself (zipped package consisting of two-three small files) and one exe file called DV2Flash.exe. Run this DV2Flash, browse to the firmware file and confirm. Nothing else is needed. I guarantee it works.
Talking about booting the system other way than from HDD, newer mobos support booting from USB flash discs, etc.

  • Anybody overclocking the PT880??? Tips??

I have a brand New PT880 Neo LSR.  The project I am attempting will be a comparison to The Intel 875 Canterwood capability.
Is the PT880 a true "Canterwood Killer" as is rumored???  For 1/3 the price of a Canterwood------is it comparable at all??  Will it overclock??? Is there a PCI/AGP lock (Via's first attempt at this) in the Bios and does it work??
Is it a GREAT deal----or all hype??
These are the questions I will seek to answer.
Appreciate any "tips" from peolple already running this board...
    My setup will be:
P4C 2.4  (A known solid overclocker to at least 267 FSB on default Vcore on a Canterwood)
    MSI PT880 Neo LSR
    2 x 256 Geil Ultra PC4000
2 80 gig Samsung SATA Drives
    Enermax 465 VE PSU
    MSI DR-8A 8X DVD burner
    WaterCooled
The goal is a 1:1 overclock of 250 FSB -----at decent timings, stable and cool.  If it can do that-----this board is a superb "deal"
Any help or tips most appreciated.

I haven't been able to resolve this problem yet, though I think it might be a power supply problem ( I guess 300W ain't enough to cut it). I'm gonna get a 400W power supply soon, and I hope this fixes the problem.
Ok, so good luck with ur project... keep us posted..
Are you running SATA RAID----or a single SATA drive?
Is this setting set to 66 in Bios:
From the Manual----Frequency/Voltage controls in Bios
    AGP Frequency
This item is used to configure the AGP frequency. Settings: From 66.9 to
    100.9 at 1 increment.
Am not sure----but I believe this setting to be the long absent AGP/PCI lock setting that Via was notorious for NOT having----but supposedly fixed with this chipset.
    Good Luck-----John

  • Burned power supply replacement (MSI GX 700)

    Hello,
My GX 700 power supply just burned tonight, it was really hot, I unplugged it and let it cool down, but it's not working anymore, I'm going to call the after sales service but, for right now, is it possible to use an other laptop powersupply ? The one I want to use is slightly different, 3,9 A unstead of 4,4 A, because it's a lower amperage than the original one, I suppose it won't hurt the laptop, am I right ?

I'm going to call after sales service today, my laptop has a 1 year warranty, so it's allright.
I was looking for a temporary solution, but after double checking, the connector is different so, It doesn't work anyway. For the powersupply, I don't know what happenned, suddenly the laptop switch to battery mode and when I checked the power supply it was really hot, it has overheat, so I deduced taht an electronic piece burned, I let it cool down and checked again, but this is not working.
MSI services will tell me what to do, thank you for the answers.

  • MSI 8404A Burn problems

Hello happy people of the MSI forum,
I bought a Dual DVDRW/R (the 8404A) recently for my PC. It is able to read and burn CDs, and read DVDs. HOWEVER, everytime i try to burn a DVD (using DVDRW discs, on the slowest speed availible, 1 speed i believe) it appears to work.
If i then try to open or play the files on the burnt DVD all i get is the folder not responding and my PC sits there not responding.
If any further details are required please say, this is confusing me somewhat.
(I have taken it back to the shop i bought it from, and when they checked it, it worked. I have the feeling i'm missing a driver or piece of firmware)

I've been able to figure out that i need to upgrade my firmware from 2.17 which seems to have DVD burning issues.
I have downloaded the 260.bin version of the firmware, however when i boot into real dos and try to launch the upgrade, it tells me it cannot open the 260.bin (this is inside the MSI upgrade firmware process)
Anyhelp on fixing the .bin or getting a different one?

I've done a little search and found out that:
    1) MSI CR52-A2 won't write faster than 16x in clonecd DAO-RAW or Nero DAO/96.
    2) probably it's not clonecd or nero problem because in other modes the drive writes 52x
    3) Many drives from many brands "hit the brakes" when using these special modes. Of course these modes are the only one u can use if u want to backup protected cds.
    4) In many cases these issues are solved with firmware updates
    5) until now MSI haven't released a firmware that solves the problem
    6) The strange thing is that MSI support answered to a email I send them that CR52-A2 "should write 52x DAO-RAW".
    7) I think MSI support team is a stupid and ignorant team because it's not a one program failure. Both clonecd and Nero can't write faster than 16x in these special RAW modes.
QUESTION: Is anyone able to write faster than 16x in Clonecd DAO-RAW or Nero DAO/96???? Please test it and report back
