MSI Cyclone R6850 Power Edition - Freezing and Driver recovery problem

I've just built a new Gaming PC and am having stability issues along with lower than average benchmarking results.
Randomly, the screen will freeze, sometimes go black then re-appear and an error message from the system tray will appear “display driver stopped responding & has recovered”. The system will then operate as normal until the next freeze.
I have tried all versions of the 64 bit drivers available from the MSI website, with no change in the issue. 3DMark11 benchmarking results are several hundred points below average, the same with Furmark, as the below results show;
My system is running at stock, out the box speeds, with no overclocking on my part. The components are listed below;
Cooler Master Elite 430 Case
Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 600W Modular Power Supply
GigaByte GA-P67A-UD4 (Version B3) Mobo
Intel Core i5 2500K unlocked
4GB 2x2GB Corsair CMX4GX3M2B1600C9 Memory
Coolermaster HYPER 212 PLUS COOLER
MS Win 7 Home Prem 64bit OEM
I'm happy to run any diagnostic/benchmarking software to help identify the issue.

Thanks for the quick reply,
Unfortunately, I dont have access to another system that would be able to power the card.
I've already booked an RMA with the vendor, but am worried that they will reply with "sorry, the issue is with configuration/software" and be landed with the shipping expenses. The vendor is www.scan.co.uk

  • NGTX560 Single Fan Edition, freezing and sound stuttering problems

I've recently just built a new computer,
    CPU- i5 2500k,
    Motherboard- Gigabyte Z68M-D2H,
    Ram- G.Skill Ripjaws 1600mhz 8gb(4X2kit),
PSU- Coolermaster Extreme plus 700W 52A single rail,
GPU- NGTX560 single fan edition, no overclocks whatsoever on anything.
Storage- Seagate 500gb HDD 7200Rpm Sata
    OS- Windows 7 64Bit edition.
Display- Monitor is a LG IPS235, 23.5', if it even matters
When I try to play games it starts to lag, and freeze while causing sound stuttering and then completely freezes the whole computer forcing me to reboot the system. Using the 285.62 drivers.
Games for example include Starcraft 2, which when I open used to freeze straight on the loading screen forcing an immediate reboot. I allowed it through my firewall and now I get past the loading screen and can log in, but straight after I log in, sound stuttering occurs and then the whole computer freezes forcing me to reboot. Another game as an example is Killing Floor, I never got past the "Tripwire interactive" loading screen, looked on google for some fixes, after modifying some .ini files for Killing Floor I was able to get into the menu's, went to options and clicked on display to change some of the graphics settings, extreme rips in the image occured, sound stuttering and frozen on the spot. Retried again but this time didn't touch any settings at all, joined a match, the game loaded but as soon as I entered it froze forcing me to reboot. Need help please thanks
Edit: just tried Starcraft 2, made a custom match vs a bot, got into the game for 20 seconds, started mining minerals then it froze again, this time I can hear the audio still playing perfectly while the image is frozen, mouse can move around, keyboard still works. rebooted after observing these features

Sorry but i have no other video card to test if my system is stable
I haven't tried msi's drivers yet will get to doing that now
I have tried to reinstall SC2 using both the disc provided, and downloading the client from the internet
Ill get back to you with the exact video card model

  • MOVED: Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. MSI GTX 670 Power Edition

This topic has been moved to Graphics Cards.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=251843.0

    Hey there,
Noticed that my BIOS drivers were outdated so i updated them (Z68A-GD65 G3, version: 25.8), after all the reboots i logged on my computer, started teamspeak, and while searching for the teamspeak room the driver problem happened again.
Anyway, my power supply is NOX Hummer 80 600W, model: HUM80600.
The problems started on September of this year i think? I've had this computer for almost 3 years now. I have the latest Nvidia drivers, and this still happens, i've tried downgrading, fresh installing, and nothing worked.
    Graphics card: MSI GTX 670 Power Edition 2GB GDDR5 PCI-E 3.0 DirectX11, S/N: 602-V284-02SB1207063830.
I'll try it tommorow if possible.
    Thank you for the attention.

    Conclusion
26 crash dumps have been found and analyzed. Only 10 are included in this report. 2 third party drivers have been identified to be causing system crashes on your computer. It is strongly suggested that you check for updates for these drivers on their company websites. Click on the links below to search with Google for updates for these drivers:
atikmdag.sys (ATI Radeon Kernel Mode Driver, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.)
atikmpag.sys (AMD multi-vendor Miniport Driver, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.)
If no updates for these drivers are available, try searching with Google on the names of these drivers in combination the errors that have been reported for these drivers and include the brand and model name of your computer as well in the query. This often yields interesting results from discussions from users who have been experiencing similar problems.
Read the topic general suggestions for troubleshooting system crashes for more information.
Note that it's not always possible to state with certainty whether a reported driver is responsible for crashing your system or that the root cause is in another module. Nonetheless it's suggested you look for updates for the products that these drivers belong to and regularly visit Windows update or enable automatic updates for Windows. In case a piece of malfunctioning hardware is causing trouble, a search with Google on the bug check errors together with the model name and brand of your computer may help you investigate this further.

  • MSI GTX 670 Power Edition/OC max temperature?

I've had a MSI GTX 670 Power Edition/OC working great since October 2012, no problems even with the most demanding games.
But now the summer heat has come (it's 40°C in the shade) and I've been getting crashes (classic TDR, no video signal, windows reboots) when the temperature of the GPU gets to about 80°C. If I leave the case open, it never reaches that temperature and works great.
I can't find the temperature specs for this card, but the reference GTX 670 should run up to 97°C.
Is this normal? What is your maximum stable temperature?
    P.S. I don't overclock, anything.
    Thank you

    Hi there,
the only think I could suggest is that ...
1st. do you have adequate cooling in your system..i.e. case fans etc, etc, and to ensure theres no obstruction to cooling fan on  vga card, always an alternative is to install what they call an exhaust blower fan place that directly underneath your card  and that will extract heat away, I had the same issue with my MSI 6570 card and as soon as I added an exhaust blower mine runs at 33oC and i'm pushing my card to the extreme and temp still stays the same... if that fail then your gpu cooling issnt running fast enough to supply adequate cool air...
I hope that will help you

  • MSI N560GTX-Ti Power Edition Bios

Can someone pls tell where can i download bios for this graphic card coz on MSI web site i cant find it anywhere. Maybe there is some bios that is compatible with that card but i dont know witch one coz i am afraid not to mess up the graphic card.
    Can some1 help pls.
    Sry for bad english.

Well i removed the 301.42 with driver sweeper now, and instaled the 285.62. Ill try that one now.
Well there are a lot of cards on the web that are faulty than, coz there is a lot of ppl with the same problem like mine and they cant find any solution. I saw few of them wrote that they did a bios flash and problem solved.
Last VGA was Gigabyte N8800GTS 512, with this card i was not able to play BF 3, after that card got damaged i borrowed friend of mine his Gigabyte 460 GTX and BF 3 worked like a charm. Few days ago i bought MSI N560GTX-Ti Twin Frozr III Power Edition i did play for 2 days and it just started to minimize and lock so every time i had to kill it in task manager.
Maybe i should buy a stronger PSU i dont know what to do anymore. :(

  • Macbook pro freezing and start up problems

Hi, I have a 2011 model macbook pro that has recently started freezing without an apparent reason. When it freezes I can still move the mouse around but everything I click is unresponsive, and remains so untill I force it to reboot. In adition to this I have also been having problems when it boots up some times, in which it gets to the pale blue startup screen and then gets stuck there, and again it remains unresponsive untill I forc it to shut down and restart.

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • MSI HD 6870 Twin Frozr II and Streaming Video problem

Card doesn't like ESPN3.com (using IE8 browser). Video while watching Sports on ESPN3 will become distorted, change colors, background shadows, horizontal lines, turn Green (like Monochrome) or washed out.
Sometimes fixing itself and appearance is Normal. Eventually every 3 to 5 minutes, sometimes a bit longer, will get this Windows Message.
"Internet Explorer has stopped working" " A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.(close program).
" This Tab has been recovered " which IE8 will Refresh and work.
Does not matter what AMD/ATI Driver I am using 8.796 from MSI website or 8.801 from AMD. (Both are most recent).
Have used various resolutions provided from various forums (MSI, Guru3D, TechPowerUp, AnandTech). Uninstalling Drivers, Driver Sweeper, Ccleaner, deleting folders, going to Safe Mode, etc:.
Microsoft has had me Disabling Add-Ons, defaulting everything under IE Tools, Uninstalling IE8 and also their Fix-It program.
So far only time I do not have this problem is when I am using Windows Standard VGA driver.
This indicates that it must be a AMD/ATI Driver issue. So far only occurs on ESPN3.com (was ESPN360.com) when watchin a game -streaming video as aware of pertaining to my usage.
The HD 6870 operates fine for most part,
Other Issues: whenever I want to run 3DMark 2011 or Unigine Heaven 2.1 Benchmarks after restarting or Boot up of computer I have to reinstall Driver.
Reason: the programs says I do not have DirectX 11 compatible Hardware, therefore once I reinstall the Driver then the program identifies the card properly.
Other, sometimes running IE8 when I move the Mouse or Scoll the Screen will Flicker this happens with Driver 8.801 but not all the time.
As mentioned conflict between Driver and IE8. (can Microsoft and AMD ever work together or are they enemies, guess MS loves nVidia)

Using a different Browser.. well I have a few years back... don't know exactly why I keep returning to IE. Guess it has to do more with Visual Appearance and not having as many Gizmos
so IE is simple even with its Flaws. But thanks for suggesting it.
I used my old PC, Compaq Presario 5423US uses WinXP Pro 32bit, that I gave to my daughter when I built this one in May 2008 (I use Vista Ultimate 64bit).
I didn't realize it has the same problem when watching sports on ESPN3.com. (IE has stopped working-message only..... not all the whacky video scenarios).
I checked and my daughter did update hers to IE8. ( I always liked IE7 better but MS makes it hard as with all those Hot Fixes and SP2, SP3. etc.
So the whole problem is MS Internet Explorer 8 hates how ESPN3.com sets up their webpage .... just saying a Bug is created in the Data Packages set via Streaming Video.
If ya have a friend or capability to do so..try IE8 and watch a game on ESPN3.com  until you  get "Internet Explorerer has stopped working".
If it happens then there are issues with IE8 that needs to be resolved with that website (ESPN3.com).
anyways on my old PC there was no flickering and graphic distortions as mentioned with this PC.
    Thanks!

  • MBAM System Administrators - Missing Manage TPM and Drive Recovery option - MBAM 2.5

I have installed MBAM 2.5 in a 3 server environment. Every thing is working fine and validated the installation.
But what I have found that the drive recovery tab and Manage TPM is missing for the users member of MBAM System administrators. As there are many changes that comes with MBAM 2.5 and one is exclusion of MBAM local groups.
Everything is perfect for the Advanced Helpdesk and Helpdesk users.
    Gaurav Ranjan

    Hi Gaurav,
As you mentioned, there are no local groups anymore.  During configuration of the Admin portal, you specify AD groups for administration.  We removed the System administrators group because it was kind of redundant.  You could get the same
effect by adding the user to the Advanced Helpdesk and Reporting Users AD groups you specify.  So, if you add whatever user you wanted to be the "system administrator" for MBAM to both of those AD groups, that should solve your problem.  Note you
may have to log out of your machine and back in after adding them to the group so that they get the token, as with any AD group addition.

  • MSI Geforce 4 MX 420 - freezes and crashes

Right, ok people, hi, now, i'm sorry that this is a newbie question which has gone before many times, but i dont know much about any of this so i need an explicit answer which will tell me exactly what i have to do. And to a guy who know nothing about computers, trying to wade through this entire forum to  find the answer is tricky.
    :D
Ok, heres the o-so familiar problem.
Computer freezes in windows, causing slow downs and currently it resets itself when this happens.
I think i got the idea that the Geforce was slowing down.
It also wont run some games, which i'm sure were running before the Geforce - Star Wars Supremacy for example, but it runs others, such as Homeworld.
I also vaguely picked up the idea about power.
My power supply says 200 watts, with a peak of 235.
    I have-
    an ASUS A7S333
    A duron 1.2ghz
    MSI Geforce 4 64 mb
    Hauppage Win TV card
    3com lan network card
    256 mb ram
    56k modem
So i guess the question i'm asking is: what do i do to solve the problems (simply please, i'm an idiot)

    *bump*
Sorry to bump this, but i really could do with an answer, its not helping uni work when the damn thing resets every so often (although i can usually see it coming) and i know everyone else is also trying to get an answer, but if anyone can help out i'd appreciate it. I'm pretty sure the power output problem is the right one, but i would like to hear it from someone who knows more about it than i do first. (will a 300W supply be enough? and is there anything else i'm going to need?)
    Again, thanks for your time.

  • No signal on msi 670 gtx power edition

hi just recently built a new pc,
i,m 98% everything is connected as it should be
my problem is when i switch on, all fans work, graphics card fans work, cpu fan etc
however i get no signal on my monitor, i dont hear any beeps at all just all fans spinning
just to add ive used JPWR1 for the HDD , POWER switch, and reset switch are plugged in on JPWR1 there are nothing on the  JPWR2 (is that right) ?
ive tried just using motherboard dvi only without graphics card connected,
ive tried just about everything i can think of
abviously i cant get into bios to update bios,
am i missing anything to try? it says in the user guide the HDD should be + and - and the  reset swtich should be - and + so abviously the lettering is facing up on the HDD and on reset is the opposite way if you get me, (power connectors to motherboad
could this be a cause why i,m getting no signal, or is it something more ?
ive tried using hdmi on my tv, i,m currently using dvi on my monitor to pc, (just wanted to try hdmi, to see if it would make any diffrence, but still get no signal
dont get why all fans are sinnning on everything n get no signal, if it was motherboard i guess fans wouldnt be spinning?
    any advice would be helpful

hi ive tried all of the above apart from trying graphics in other pci slot,
my question is why doesnt it boot up using the onboard graphics? (670 gtx is removed when using onboard graphics) i,m thinking its a motherboard fault, as it should have no issue using onboard graphics? or am i wrong, i will try the other pci slot to rule it out but to be honest if i cant get a signal using onboard i cant see my graphics working on other slot.
but its worth a try before RMA
Yep, my on-board graphics worked fine even with the 670 installed.  The on-board graphics were set to 'only if no external gpu detected'  so my 670 even though booting up, fan spinning and no error beeps was not getting detected.   Very strange.
I also tried the 670 in another computer with a x16 socket and it worked.
I have ordered a new MSI Z77 G45 MB in the hope that it will work in a board of the same make as my 670.

  • Brand new MSI P7NGM-Digital nVidia 730i freezes after driver installation

I have just finished installing Win XP 32bit OS and installed all drivers that came with the MSI disc.
    Drivers installed : Chipset/SM BUS/Realtek LAN/Realtek HD audio/Realtek HD KB update/display drivers.
As sson as i boot into XP my system will freeze completely after 2-5 mins. Since this is a completely fresh install I strongly suspect this is a driver issue but I cant figure out which one it is and why. I didnt some minor troubleshooting like uinstalling drivers one by one to find out the guilty but it seems all of them are!
System hasnt frozen in Safe mode/VGA mode and after uninstalling all drivers in normal mode.
Now iam downloading drivers straight fromm the net.
Has any1 gone thru this issue before ?

guys, i need some help here.
The problem has been narrowed down to display drivers. Even the latest ones from this website which come bundled in Chipset drivers, freezeup the system after booting into Windows in normal mode.
Ofcrse the system hasnt yet frozen up in Safe mode or w/o the display drivers , like now.
Also, one thing i noticed last time it froze after installing display drivers seperately from this website, when it froze ig gave a loud high frequecy continous beep.
How do i solve this problem, shld i try nvidi drivers staight from nvidia?

Windows then shows a message stating that my graphic driver is not functioning.
Via HP assistance/support, I tried to update the driver but after the download has completed, a message shows that the download did not/was unable to complete.

  • MOVED: Can't overclock MSI 660 TI power edition

This topic has been moved to Overclocking, Undervolting.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=167176.0

I know that no card is the same that's not the issue and like i said this card is a great card.
But can you tell me than why is it that when i looked at reviews they get 150+ on the clock and mem +600 when people who bought this card only manage to get in between +20 to +50? they did not use the aux voltage.
Quote from: flobelix on 10-March-13, 21:40:22
Overclocking is a matter of the individual sample. Some cards of the same model might clock great while others won't.
    Quote from: hurricane28
I heard that the first cards would be able to put more volts but the later cards having volt locks because its high potential?
If so could i get the older bios versions of that card or get another bios on my card?
It just don't seen fair that the first cards could overclock way better than the latest cards.
and it is not that some cards are better ans some are not because this is my second card i get because i was thinking it was broken because of my problems.
Nvidia forced all card manufactures including MSI to remove GPU overvoltage above 1.175v. It has nothing to do with potential but Nvidia dictating to stop overvoltage. MSI is therefor not allowed to offer unlocked versions. Again overclocking is a matter of the individual sample and your 660ti PE is already higher clocked by default than most other manufacturer cards could do with manual oc.

  • Freezing and color wheel problems

A week or two ago my G4 began acting up (10.4.11). It would freeze, Force Quit wouldn't work, and then the screen would go black and I would have to restart the machine all the various ways the manual instructs. But I could not find Disk Utility on the Install Disc 1 as the manual instructed (p. 62); so I reinstalled all of OSX. Things were fine for a few days. Then the color wheel started appearing again, Force Quit wouldn't work, and once the screen has simply gone black. This usually happens on Safari or Firefox. I'm not sure if it's happened at all on Eudora or in Microsoft Word. Until now the 1 1/2-year of laptop has been perfect. Might I have a virus? Would Disk Utility>First Aid help if I could find it?
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Rob:
First, I note that your profile lists your OS as 10.1x. Since no iBook G4 can run 10.1 it must be a typo. Right? If it is, please correct it, as those of us who respond look at those things to help us make more targeted responses without having to ask too many questions.
I don't understand why you are not able to find Disk Utility. As I outlined in my directions for repairing the disk you after you select language, you go to the Installer Menu in Panther and earlier, or the Utilities menu in Tiger and later.
Since you keep having issues with the spinning beachball I suggest a total reformat and erase, then re-installation. Here are step by step directions:
Formatting, Partitioning Erasing a Hard Disk Drive
Warning! This procedure will destroy all data on your Hard Disk Drive. Be sure you have an up-to-date, tested backup of at least your Users folder and any third party applications you do not want to re-install before attempting this procedure.
    • With computer shut down insert install disk in optical drive.
    • Hit Power button and immediately after chime hold down the "C" key.
