MSOALP openquery slower on local than on another server

Hi,
We are using SQL server 2008R2 64bit.
I have an MDX query which executes within 7 seconds (Profiler 'Query End' - duration = 7288) by using the SSMS MDXquery window. The resultset contains +70000 rows, and is finished into the result window within less than 20 seconds.
I want to transform these results into a SQL stored procedure. So I use a linked server to connect the OLAP server (@srvproduct=N'OLAP', @provider=N'MSOLAP', @datasrc=N'localhost'), and execute the MDX by making use of this linked server:
SET @SQL='SELECT * FROM OPENQUERY(OLAP_srv, '''+REPLACE(@MDX,'''','''''')+''')'
EXEC sp_executeSQL @SQL
However when I execute the MDX from the 'local' OLTP engine, the profiler (SSAS side) shows again 7 seconds for the 'Query End', but the result only returns after nearly 2 minutes. Also the profiler shows: 'Audit Logout' - Duration
= 117577 ms.
I have tried this from another OLTP server and on that server it returns within 1 minute.
When I look with the profiler (SQL side), it are the 'OLEDB DataRead'
events which are slower.
OPENQUERY and OPENROWSET have the same results.
Any idea what’s the reason? Why is it slower on the local SQL server, from local OLAP to local OLTP?
Thanks.
Eric.

  • How slow - if database is on another server?

    Hello,
    I want to create a French version of my website.
    The original - creme-de-languedoc .com is on a server in
    Texas. Which is great for a .com. The French one is on a server in
    France, which I'm told is better for .fr sites when Google.fr is
    concerned.
    Although the pages and images are all on the French server,
    the database behind the site is still in Texas.
    So far, the pages with dynamic data are loading very slowly.
    Is this because the data is on another server in another country?
    If so, what's the best way to speed things up? The DB is
    added to daily, so I don't want to really have to update a copy of
    it constantly on the French server.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    - Greg

    Greg,
    I don't know if Replicate would work for your purposes or
    not.

    One obvious caveat is that your subordinate server must only
    allow
    SELECT access. Probably some DB guru's will rip-me-a-new-one
    for even
    suggesting such a thing. Oh well, food for thought. Check our

    this is
    pure folly.

  • Is the Core i7 processor comparable, much slower, or faster than the 2.8 Ghz core 2 duo from 2009?

    I am looking to get a new MacBook Air, but when looking at the prices I am seeing the MacBook Pro 13" for the same price and a lot more guts (RAM and Processor).  I am ok with spending the amount of money on the air if it means I get a computer that is like my iPad, which i love (flash based, snappy), but don't want it to be super slow.
    I am coming off of a 17" 2.8Ghz MacBook Pro from 2009.  I was happy with the speed and power of that machine.  The most taxing thing I did was make a complilation of family movies in iMovie and burned them with iDVD once in the 2 years of ownership.
    I mostly browse the internet and compose written documents, and keynote presentations.
    I know my questions may seem stupid, but I don't know how significant the changes between i7 and Core 2 Duo are, so I ask the question:
    I am wondering if the processing power in the core i7 will be somewhat comparable, much slower, or faster than the 2.8 Ghz Core 2 Duo I had in my 2009 computer?
    Thanks for any help!!

    Hi brosephb,
    Like you I went through a similar comparison process. I bought the MacBook air 13" and up specced the processor and memory. I don't do anything taxing enough or frequently enough to NEED the extra power of the MacBook pro.
    I am overjoyed at my air. It's gorgeous, the way it wakes instantly, it's speed and it's portableness is so endearing that I just don't use my iPad anymore. I read numerous reviews on it and the overwhelming opinion was it's addictive ease of use because of it's slim, light and rapid waking. At work I can hold the air with one hand, open it rapidly at will. It's just great but it's made my iPad redundant (for me anyway).
    I see the new airs are even faster and I'm tempted to consider selling my 6 month old air and getting the new one, but, it runs a dream so I am happy to just be envious of the new one.
    In short, unless you need the power (for your work) go for the air. I'm looking at a new iMac to use as a home work station. For the price of a new air I can get an iMac that will swallow any task for a good few years to come. And my air will suffice as my mobile companion. However, that's just me spoiling myself as, at the moment, I have no teal need for another mac. I may get the cinema display for any long winded tasks, as the screen size will help with multiple tasking.
    A bit of a ramble, hope this is useful.

  • I want to use Back to my mac. When I try to turn it on, it says "Back to My Mac may be slow because more than one device on your network is providing network services.   Turn off NAT and DHCP on one of the devices and try again." How do I fix this?

    Not sure if I am doing this right. This is my first time in the support community.
    I imagine what I put in my heading was supposed to go in here.
    I want to use Back to my mac. When I try to turn it on, it says "Back to my mac may be slow because more than one device on your network is providing network services. Turn off NAT and DHCP on one of the devices and try again. See the documentation that came with your device for information about turning off network services"
    Does anyone know how I do this? I contacted my ISP (Telus in Canada) and they did not know anything (not that they usually do).

    Why do ISPs insist upon making things so difficult for their customers?
    If you cannot get them to understand that you would prefer to use your own router over their piece of cheap junk, perhaps the information in the following will be useful:
    http://keithbalomben.wordpress.com/2012/03/29/telus-actiontec-v1000h-hacks-and-i nformation/
    Scroll down to DHCP Settings
    You will need to log in with proper "technician" credentials. They are provided in the above link as
    Username: tech
    Password: t3lu5tv
    ... but these may or may not work. Try it, and if you cannot get anywhere at least now you know what to ask Telus to do in return for your business.

    My Mac Book Pro has slowed to less than a crawl (possibly from a worm or virus).  How do I make sure it's running at peak efficiency before I complain to comcast

    Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them; in that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
    Restart the router and the broadband device, if they're separate. Any change?
    Run Software Update and install all available updates for OS X or the computer's firmware. Any change?
    If possible, connect to the router with an Ethernet cable and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?
    Are any other devices on the network, and if so, are they the same?
    If you can connect to more than one network, are they all the same?
    Are all network applications affected, or only some? If only some, which ones?
    Is networking always the same, or is the problem intermittent?
    Disconnect all other devices from the network. Any change?
    If you're running a MacBook with the lid closed, open the lid. Any difference?
    Start up in safe mode and test. Any difference?
    Start up in Recovery mode. From the OS X Utilities screen, select Get Help Online. A clean copy of Safari will launch. No plugins, such as Flash, will be available. Any difference?
    If possible, turn off Bluetooth and disconnect any USB 3 devices. Any difference?

  • IMac, slower FTP uploads than XP machine on same network

    I had previously been working on a Dell desktop, and a major part of my job is uploading 3-5GB files via FTP to another server. I used Filezilla for the most part.
    I recently bought an iMac, and installed the same program, Filezilla, the OSX version, and proceeded to upload one of these files. I noticed that after a little bit, it was getting 35-43 kbps.
    My XP computer is still plugged in to the same router, so I tried uploading the same file to the same FTP server, via the same program, and got 75-90 kbps uploading time. Obviously, that's twice as fast, and therefore an upload that would take 24 hours on my old machine, takes 2 days on my new machine. Same ISP, same router, etc. I did a speed test on both machines, and 768 kbps upload responses on both.
    Is there anything I can do about this? I have roadrunner cable broadband in New York City, if that helps. I couldn't find DNS information for it, to plug into my ethernet settings, but I did change them from automatic to manual, according to some posts I saw regarding this specific problem, which others have experienced. I'm not all that savvy about router settings, which, as I said, worked much better with XP.
    Any ideas? Thank you.

    You might try another FTP program, such as Fetch, to see if the Mozilla program is slow on Mac OS X for some reason.

  • How to pass a locale object into another function?

    Greetings,
    i like to pass a locale object into another function. These are my code below
    import java.util.*;
    public class Locales{
         public static void main(String[] args){
              Locale locale= new Locale("EN", "US");
              convert(locale);
    public void convert(Locale convert)
         String language = convert.getDisplayLanguage();
         System.out.println(language);
    }I got this error:
    Locales.java:6: non-static method convert(java.util.Locale) cannot be referenced from a static content
                    convert(locale);
                    ^How do i correct it?
    Thanks

    Did you bother to do a search?
    Did you bother to read any of the material that the search would have linked you to?
    If you had then you would be able to understand where you are going wrong and how to fix it yourself. Instead of being spoonfed by us.

  • Get a reference of a local class at another program

    Hello experts! Sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find exactly what I'm searching for.
    Within function-pool MIGO (main program of transaction MIGO), there's a local class LCL_MIGO_KERNEL. This class has the private attribute PT_CHANGE_TAKEIT (which is an internal table).
    During the execution of MIGO, for a certain criteria, I would like to clear the contents of PT_CHANGE_TAKEIT. Since it's a private attibute, I have managed to create a new public method that just clears it. This method was defined and inplemented within ENHANCEMENT SPOTS available all over SAPLMIGO. My method is ZZ_CLEAR_PT_CHANGE_TAKEIT. So far so good.
    Now, I have to call this method. I have found no other ENHANCEMENT SPOTS in SAPLMIGO at a place where I would me able to make the call (eg, don't know if the criteria fits yet).
    Inside BADI MB_MIGO_BADI, method LINE_MODIFY, I have just what I need to know if I should clear PT_CHANGE_TAKEIT.
    However, inside here I don't have access to the instance of class LCL_MIGO_KERNEL (the instance itself is (SAPLMIGO)LCL_MIGO_GLOBALS=>KERNEL)
    So far I have managed to get a pointer to the instance with:
      FIELD-SYMBOLS: <lfs_kernel> TYPE ANY.
      ASSIGN ('(SAPLMIGO)LCL_MIGO_GLOBALS=>KERNEL')
        TO <lfs_kernel>.
    So I have the instance of the class, but how can I call my method ZZ_CLEAR_PT_CHANGE_TAKEIT?
    The command  call method <lfs_kernel>->zz_clear_pt_change_takeit.
    can't be done because ""<LFS_KERNEL>" is not a reference variable" as the sintax check tells me.
    I have tried stuff like
      CREATE DATA dref TYPE REF TO
                 ('\FUNCTION-POOL=MIGO\CLASS=LCL_MIGO_KERNEL').
      ASSIGN dref->* TO <ref>.
    but nothing works so far.
    I know if LCL_MIGO_KERNEL was a class from SE24 (not a local one), I could just create a field-symbol of that type instead of type ANY and it would work.
    Does anyone have an idea how that can be done?
    Thank you very much!

    I have managed to do what I needed by calling my method from other ENHANCEMENT SPOTS within SAPLMIGO and some extra coding on MB_MIGO_BADI, but unfortunately I couldn't do what I originaly wanted which was to call a method of a local class from another program, something that could be handy in other situations.
    If it's not lack of knowledge by myself and it really can't be done, I think the ABAP OO framework fell just short of having that flexibility, since I can get the field-symbol to point to the instance of the class, but just can't call the method because of syntax issues.
    Thanks!
    Well it seems you already solved, but I got curious and knew how this could be done, so I wanted to prove it and here it is:
    * This would be inside the Function group
    CLASS lcl_kernel DEFINITION.
      PUBLIC SECTION.
        METHODS:
          zz_clear_pt_change_takeit.
    ENDCLASS.                    "lcl_kernel DEFINITION
    CLASS lcl_kernel IMPLEMENTATION.
      METHOD zz_clear_pt_change_takeit.
        WRITE 'Dummy! I do nothing!'.
      ENDMETHOD.                    "zz_clear_pt_change_takeit
    ENDCLASS.                    "lcl_kernel IMPLEMENTATION
    START-OF-SELECTION.
    * This is just to create the reference. It corresponds to
    * (SAPLMIGO)LCL_MIGO_GLOBALS=>KERNEL in your example
      DATA: kernel  TYPE REF TO lcl_kernel.
      CREATE OBJECT kernel.
    *----------------- Now your program (which supposedly does not have
    *----------------- access to kernel or even lcl_kernel def)
    *----------------- would begin
      FIELD-SYMBOLS: <lfs_kernel> TYPE ANY.
      DATA: generic_ref           TYPE REF TO object.
      ASSIGN ('KERNEL')
        TO <lfs_kernel>.
      generic_ref = <lfs_kernel>.
      TRY.
          CALL METHOD generic_ref->('ZZ_CLEAR_PT_CHANGE_TAKEIT').
        CATCH cx_sy_dyn_call_illegal_method .
      ENDTRY.
    Apart from that, I wouldn't access a local class this way. There's a reason for blocking the access, one of them being that SAP could change local classes without notice thus breaking your program.

  • Migrating User Settings from one local user to another

    I have an iMac running 10.5.4 with some issues (Parallels hanging at random moments). One of the tests I did to troubleshoot it was create a new user profile, and run the same (shared) Parallels machine as that new user, which seemed to fix the problem.
    I would like to being gradually copying over user preferences & data from the old account to the new one, bit by bit, so that if one of those items is causing the problem with Parallels, we can catch it.
    Is there a preferred way to copy or move over user settings from one local account to another on the same Mac? Basic files like Documents, etc. I know I can just drop into the Shared folder, but I am more concerned with Preferences, apps that use databases to point to files (like iTunes), and permissions.
    Thank you!

    V.K. (and anyone else who cares) - I finally figured out the problem: the mount point for the volume containing my Home directory ("Data") was changed by the system, but only on my primary startup volume ("System")... so when I booted from SystemClone everything was okay... but when I booted from System I had no account, no preferences, no nothing. Because the visible label on the volume containing Home was correct (even though the actual name - the mount point - was different), regardless of whether I booted from System or SystemClone, I assumed everything here was in order.
    Bottom line: when booting from System, my Data volume's visible label read "Data" .. the path to Home directory under the account's advanced settings read "/volumes/data/directoryName" ... but my Data volume's mount point read "Data 1" .. when booting from SystemClone, my Data volume's visible label read "Data" .. the path to Home directory under the account's advanced settings read "/volumes/data/directoryName" ... and my Data volume's mount point read "Data" (so everything worked).
    Lesson learned: don't assume.. check the mount point reference using Disk Utility.
    Approach validated: if I didn't have a bootable SystemClone, I would have never been able to figure this out, and repair everything without rebuilding.

  • SQL server 2012 does not see local disks other than C being started under domain account (which is local admin on the server)

    Hi all. We have a SQL Server 2012 installed to a fresh Windows Server 2012 Server. There is a service account domain\rusystem01 created to run SQL services. It is added as a Local administrator on this server.
    The issue is that SQL Server does not see any local drives (other than C drive) on the server if we run it from this domain service account (for example, we cannot move any databases to any other drives or setup backup).
    It works fine (and other drives ARE available) if SQL Services are started from Network service account or Local service account (which is not recommended by Microsoft). But does not work from domain account.
    Any ideas how to fix this?
    MCP

    >Any ideas how to fix this?
    Apply NTFS ACLs for the folders (and perhaps volumes*) for SQL Server.  Use the Per-Service SID, rather than the Service Account for the ACLs so they survive changing the service account.
    The per-service SID is "NT Service\MSSQLSERVER" for a default instance and "NT Service\MSSQL$InstanceName" for a named instance.
    *Volume ACLs are set in Disk Management.
    David
    David http://blogs.msdn.com/b/dbrowne/
    David, would you please clarify what do you propose? I open D: volume on the Disk management and grant NT Service\MSSQL$DEV account with Full control permissions. Restarted SQL - no effect. Still only C: is visible for SQL.

  • A SQL tuning issue-sql runs much slower in test than in production?

    Hi Buddies,
    I am working on a sql tuning issue. A sql runs much slower in test than in production.
    I compared the two explain plans in test and production
    seems in test, CBO refuses to use index SUBLEDGER_ENTRY_I2.
    we rebuile it and re-gether that index statistcs. run, still slow..
    I compared the init.ora parameters like hash_area_size, sort_area_size in test, they are same as production.
    I wonder if any expert friend can show some light.

    Hi
    Basically there are two kinds of tables
    - fact
    - lookup
    The number of records in a lookup table is usually small.
    The number of records in a fact table is usually huge.
    However, in test systems the number of records in a fact table is often also small.
    This results in different execution plans.
    I notice again you don't post version and platform info, and you didn't make sure your explain is properly idented
    Please read the FAQ to make sure it is properly idented.
    Also using the word 'buddies' is as far as I am concerned nearing disrespect and rudeness.

  • Is there any way to refresh the zfs snapshot other than creating another on

    Hi,
    I want to use the zfs send / recv replication, after I create the snapshot and do send/ recv to the remote filesystem, is there any way to do send and recv from the same snapshot after making some changes to the original filesystem other than creating another snapshot every time before send / recv
    Thanking you
    Ushas Symon

    No, you'd have to take another snapshot and then send it, but you don't need to save all the snapshots after you are done. If you script it out to take snapshots fairly often during the day, the amount of data would be small. You can also send to a file and then backup that file to tape or whatever, you wouldn't have to save a million snapshots. You can also look into OpenSolaris' Time Slider function.

  • JSTL: Currencies in other Locale than selected Bundle

    The user can select a language on web site. Selected locale is stored in the user session and used to read text from corresponded resource bundle. Currency is diplayed as follows
    <jsp:useBean id="locale" scope="session" class="java.util.Locale" />
    <fmt:setLocale value="<%= locale %>" />
    <fmt:bundle basename="bundle">
    <P><fmt:formatNumber value="<%= new Double(line.getTotal()) %>" type="currency" /></P>
    </fmt:bundle>
    I need to display content of a site in Russian, but product prices in Israeli Shequels, not in Russian Rubels (as the code above does). Could you post a code sample how to display currencies in other locale than the selected Bundle.

    Opps, I think I found the answer
    <fmt:setLocale value="<%= locale1 %>" />
    <fmt:bundle basename="bundle">
    <P><fmt:formatNumber value="<%= new Double(line.getTotal()) %>" type="currency" /></P>
    </fmt:bundle>
    <fmt:setLocale value="<%= locale2 %>" />
    <fmt:bundle basename="bundle">
    <P><fmt:formatNumber value="<%= new Double(line.getTotal()) %>" type="currency" /></P>
    </fmt:bundle>

  • Forwarding Cisco Logs to another Server

    Hi,
    Is it possible to forward all MARS logs to another server. Issue is that we already have cisco mars and now we have implememted splunk. So instead of change logging device on all equipments  i need to forward logs to splunk server.
    If possible how?
    Cheers

    GT --
    It's possible to configure MARS to act as a syslog relay, but there are some limitations.  The relay feature is covered in Chapter 3 of the "User Guide for CS-MARS Local and Global Controllers".
    Specifically, check the section titled "Syslog Relay Support".  Some of the information that starts the section:
    The Local Controller can now act as a relay; it processes the incoming syslog messages locally before it forwards them to the designated collector. The destination port number is 514 for incoming and relayed syslog messages. MARS adheres to RFC 3164: The BSD syslog Protocol while relaying the syslog messages with the following exceptions:
    •MARS can only forward to a single collector IP address.
    •Because MARS supports exactly one collector, you cannot specify that events originating from one device address be forwarded to one collector while those originating from a different device address are forwarded to a different collector. All events are forwarded to the same collector.
    •Forwarded syslog can be up to 1024 bytes in length. Logs longer than 1024 bytes are truncated.
    It also mentions that the configuration has to be done through the CLI, not the web GUI.
    Good luck!

  • Changing from .mac to another server-how to make sure I keep all my emails?

    Sorry if this has been asked before--I couldn't find it in recent threads--,
    Here is my situation: I already have free email service from another server (my DSL provider) but I have kept paying for the .mac email and idisk storage for two years simply because I thought I was going to do great things, I guess.
    I now realize I am too busy to learn enough about setting up my own webpage or whatever, so want to consolidate and save money. I am going to not resubscribe when next year's payment comes due next month, but in the meanwhile, I need to know:
    Should I forward any or all of my (opened and read) mail to my new email/server? Or is it all stored on my iMac anyway, and so only need to send my friends an email telling them of the new address...? I obviously don't want to lose anything.
    Please advise. Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

    Your DSL provider probably does not provide/support an IMAP account - more than likely it is a POP account so there is no need to forward all messages from your .Mac account's Inbox mailbox to your DSL provider's email account which probably much has less server storage space available.
    If you have been accessing your account as a .Mac type account (which is really an IMAP account and behaves in the same way), you need to transfer all messages in the account's Inbox mailbox to a user created "On My Mac" location mailbox before the account expires.
    This will store the transferred messages locally on the hard drive and remove the messages from the server at the same time.
    I recommend using the Copy To command vs the Move To command in case something goes wrong with the process.
    At the menu bar, go to Mailbox and select New Mailbox.
    Select "On My Mac" as the location if not already selected, enter a name for the mailbox and select OK to create the mailbox.
    Select a message in the message list for the account's Inbox mailbox and at the menu bar, go to Edit > Select All to highlight/select all messages in the account's Inbox mailbox.
    At the menu bar, go to Message > Copy To and select the user created "On My Mac" location mailbox.
    This will copy all messages from the server to the user created mailbox. When completed and after confirming all messages were successfully copied to the mailbox, you can delete all messages from the server or leave as is. When the account expires, all messages available on the server will be deleted.
    If you are also saving sent messages on the server, you need to do the same with all sent messages stored on the server and with any other messages stored on the server that you want/need to keep such as and Drafts.
    I would send an email to all contacts in your Address Book informing them of your email address change now and to start using your new email address right away. This way, you will have fewer messages to transfer from the account's Inbox to the user created "On My Mac" location mailbox.
    If you have been accessing your .Mac account as a POP account, you need to do the same with all messages in the account's Inbox and Sent mailbox before deleting the account. When deleting an account with Mail, the account named folder and all associated account mailboxes are also deleted.
