MSSQL 7.0 - Oracle 8 (When?)
Hi,
I've recently been assigned the task of converting our MSSQL 7.0
database to Oracle 8 and I was hoping for a rough estimate as to
when the OMW would support MSSQL 7.0?
Thanks for your time,

Thanks you very much.It is unclear where you are having a problem. Is your issue at runtime (when the form runs in the browser) or when working in the Builder on the form?
Also be aware that you will need to sign your jar and include some new manifest entries. Refer to the Java 7u51 documentation and blogs that discuss the changes.

Hi
After looong way to migrate database from MSSQL 08 to Oracle 11g (lots of topic on oracle forum was very helpfull), I finally wanted to migrate my data. So, i did like in this http://st-curriculum.oracle.com/obe/db/hol08/sqldev_migration/mssqlserver/migrate_microsoft_sqlserver_otn.htm tutorial, used oracle_ctl , then I got back some data :

Just a warning up front but I am fairly new to Oracle so I might get some of the lingo wrong.
I had a 2008 MSSQL DB that I migrated to Oracle using the migration tool within Oracle SQL developer (version 3.2.20.09). When I was done I had a DB but it was located within "Other Users" under a user "DBO_NIGHTLY6". In order to connect to the migrated database I have to use the same SID, port, and hostname as I did to connect to the DB that contains the "Other Users" but I just use the dbo_nightly6 as both the username and password. This gets me connected to the DB but what if I wanted to connect to the DB as another user?
I might not totally understand what happened in the migration. When I pointed it at the DB to migrate to I didn't realize it would show up under the "Other Users". Took me forever to find that and figure out how to get connected to it. Is there a way to migrate it to the actual DB itself and not an "Other Users"? Can someone maybe explain this process a little better to help me understand. And yes I have read documentation on it I just don't think I am understanding what I have been reading.
Thanks for any help.Hi Mike,
I don't think that this has been done before and scripts aren't available for this purpose.(Colleagues, correct me if wrong please)
There's a migration tool from MS for that purpose but it is not supported for ME as it hasn't been tested.
http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2005/en/us/migration-oracle.aspx
A safe alternative if only objects are required could be to use data Xchange but this won't include reporting data.

Hi All
Should the TG4MSQL be intalled in same oracle home as the oracle software or another home for db connectivity to MSSQL Server
Oracle software location is d:\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1
thanksTG4MSQL is release 10.2 - when installing this software into an Oracle 11.2 home you'll corrupt your existing home,
When you're going to install DG4MSQL 11.2.0.1 and you're Oracle database home has the same version and no patch is yet applied to the database home, then you can install it into the same Oracle_home directory. In the past i(up to 11.1) it was a little bit easier having the gateway in the same Oracle_home as the database, because when you applied the database patch set, the gateway was patched automatically.
Starting with 11.2 every patch set is also a full release which can be used to install from scratch which makes it easier to install into separate ORACLE_HOMEs and then allows you to apply a gateway patch only without the need to patch the database as well. Just imagine a new SQL Server release is currently being built by MS and this new version might require a gateway patch to be compliant with the new SQL Server release. Then, when having 2 OHs you can only patch the gateway without touching the database. -
Get date from Oracle when local time zone is different from Oracle time zon
Hi!
Local machine time zone= +2
Oracle time zone= +1
I set date to Oracle using java.sql.Date.
From application I save date at 00:30 clock and send e.g. 28.06.2002, but in Oracle date is save as 27.06.2002 01:00 (hour=01 , I suppose that is because java.sql.Date hasn't time the Oracle set it time = time zone=+1) And when I get date from Oracle I get incorrect date. In SQL I don't use date masks. Maybe solution is to use java.sql.Timestamp object (when save date to Oracle) instead of java.sql.Date?
But if I save date at e.g. 01:00 clock and send e.g. 28:06.2002 in Oracle, date is save as 28.06.2002 01:00 and when I read from Oracle I get correct date.

Which LKM and IKM to use for Fast data loading b/w MSSQL 2005 and Oracle 11
Hi,
Can anybody help us to decide which LKMs and IKMs are best for data loading between MSSQL and Oracle.
Staging Area is Oracle. We have to load around 400Million rows from MSSQL to Oracle 11g.
Best regards,
MuhammadThanks Ayush,
You are right and it has dumped the file very quickly; but it is giving error on sqlldr call thorugh jython. I have reaised SR with oracle to look into it further.
thanks again and have a very nice time.

Weblogic leaves in-doubt transaction on Oracle when it fails
Hi,
I'm looking at resilience with our Weblogic (6.1sp2) and Oracle
(8.1.7) environment, and have been doing a few tests. We're using the
Oracle OCI (thick) driver, in "XA" mode (i.e. using the "Driver"
oracle.jdbc.xa.client.OracleXADataSource). We need to do this because
our application uses JMS/Message driven beans to intiate a lot of the
work, and any database activity that fails needs to be rolled back
together with the message and any other work. We don't "enable
two-phase commit" as shown on the TxDatasource config, so get real XA
behaviour, with JMS and the JDBC connection as the XA resources.
The problem is when/if Weblogic dies. As WLS is the transation
manager, if a transaction is in-flight at the time WLS fails the XA
resources need to take action. If the TM fails after the transaction
starts but before the prepare() calls, it seems as though things
generally work out; Oracle rolls back its transactions, and when WLS
is restarted, the JMS messages are recovered and re-delivered (after
the initial delay period of five minutes). The problem seems to be
when WLS dies between the prepare and the commit. In this case, Oracle
holds the various locks it needs to commit the transaction, and when
WLS is restarted it doesn't seem to inform the XA resources that the
transaction should be rolled back/abandoned. Until a DBA sorts out the
problem, any attempts to use the locked areas (e.g. anything that does
a table scan or uses specific rows) result in errors of the form:
ORA-01591: lock held by in-doubt distributed transaction 18.65.2221
This is sensible as far as Oracle's concerned - it doesn't know if any
other XA resources committed or rolled back their transactions.
However, I'd have expected WLS, as the TM, to have sent the necessary
instructions to Oracle once the transaction has been recovered.
Nothing in WL's logs implies it's trying to do anything with recovered
transactions.
I've managed to make this repeatable. I have a class which I can send
a JMS message to kill the server. This MDB calls
Runtime.getRuntime.halt(1) (to simulate a serious crash) either during
the transaction (in onMessage()) or registers its own "XA killer"
resource which calls halt(1) in the prepare(). In the latter case I
always get an in-doubt transaction.
Anyone else had this behaviour, and more importantly, know how to
resolve it?
JamesLou,
any information about the results of testing of the patch from oracle for 'in-doubt
transaction' problem?
Thanks
Sanjay

Are you using Oracle817? Yes, we are.
There is a known Oracle817 bug that may be related to
your problem. You may try Oracle901.Ah. Such an upgrade would have major implications on our architecture.
Do you have any more information on this bug (a bug number etc)?
Would we have to upgrade the server, or just the clients?

SQL Developer MSSQL 2012 to Oracle 11GR2 issues
I have an instance of SQL that I want to migrate over to Oracle 11G R2 as a POC. I was playing with the SQL Developer tool and was able to connect to both of my instances. However during the "Migrate to Oracle" function I am getting an error. With the SQL Dev 3.2.2 I was using jdk1.6.0_45 and jtds-1.2.jar. So I decided to install SQL Developer 4 to see if there's any other issues. With SQL Dev 4, I was using jdk1.7.0_25 and jtds-1.3.1.jar, which also errored out. Now the question is... how do I migrate? On the Step 4 of 10, "Source Database", when I choose the SQL instance and click next I get the following error:

ORA-93114 Not connected to Oracle when using hsodbc
Hi,
I am trying to transfer data from SQLServer 2000 to Oracle 8.1.6 on Sun.
I have configured my ODBC on Sun and it works fine.
Now I am trying to get the data in Oracle.
These are my settings in hsodbc.ora,tnsnames.ora and listener.ora.

Please specify whether you have installed CI and DB on two different machines (hosts).
Have you given proper entries when asked about Database Server during your CI installation ? Check the SAPDBHOST parameter in the DEFAULT.PFL
If yes then have you installed oracle client on CI ? You will have to install it.
Please check and reply.

Is there utility to convert MSSQL statements in my ASP files to ORACLE SQL?
And if so, will it handle the connection parameters as well?Hi Mark,
You should look at the Application Migration Assistant
http://otn.oracle.com/tech/migration/ama
There you will find the tool ( a JDev extension) and multiple docs describing exactly what you want to do.

ORA-03114 not connected with Oracle when I execute Query
Hi!
I have a Problem with Oracle 9 but I don't know what wrong.
When I execute this query I get an error everytime:
select * from
perleist pl
left outer join leikat l on pl.lsnr = l.lsnr
where pl.von < sysdate
and
pl.id not in
select idperleist from rechaus
where buch_schl <> 'STRN'
It's not the complete select but the point is I use
"left outer join leikat l on pl.lsnr = l.lsnr"
( not the (+) - Opoerator) and a "not in" -Clausel.
Without the "not in" -Clausel the select runs fine.
Sorry for my bad english g
Thx for help :)
MichaelHi!
My Selection doesn't run :((
The Selection runs with (+) -Join and not with "left outer join" .
i need the "left outer join" couse the Application runs on Oracle
and Interbase with same Selections. Other Selections with "left outer Join"
are running under my Oracle 9.2 Database.
Here something I tested:
Selection runs with (+)- Join and count ():
select count(pl.id) anz
from perleist pl , leikat l
where
pl.lsnr = l.lsnr (+)
--left outer join leikat l on l.lsnr = pl.lsnr
and (pl.von <= to_date('30.09.2002', 'DD.MM.YYYY')) and (pl.bis >= to_date('01.09.2002', 'DD.MM.YYYY'))
and (l.RelAbr = 1)
and (pl.AufnNr = 13464)
and (pl.id not in (select idperleist from rechaus where ((BuchSchluessel <> 'STRN') or (BuchSchluessel is null)) and (StornoDat = to_date('30.12.1899', 'DD.MM.YYYY')) and (AbrJahr = 2002) and (AbrMonat = 9)))
Runs without count() and with "left outer join" :
select --count(pl.id) anz
from perleist pl
left outer join leikat l on pl.lsnr = l.lsnr
where (pl.von <= to_date('30.09.2002', 'DD.MM.YYYY')) and (pl.bis >= to_date('01.09.2002', 'DD.MM.YYYY'))
and (l.RelAbr = 1)
and (pl.AufnNr = 13464)
and (pl.id not in (select idperleist from rechaus where ((BuchSchluessel <> 'STRN') or (BuchSchluessel is null)) and (StornoDat = to_date('30.12.1899', 'DD.MM.YYYY')) and (AbrJahr = 2002) and (AbrMonat = 9)))
Error ORA-03114 when usinf count () and
"left outer join":
select count(pl.id) anz
from perleist pl
left outer join leikat l on l.lsnr = pl.lsnr
