Multi_Config expert in OWB 11gR1

Hi, I'm trying to use the MULTI_CONFIG expert in OWB 11g. I've successfully used this previously in OWB 10gR2, but in OWB 11g I keep getting an error message saying it can't find java class oracle.owb.jexpert.DataEntryTable.
Has anyone else had this problem and/or been able to get this expert to work properly under OWB 11g?
Thanks!
Scott

Hi Scott
Sorry about that....the component was missed from the install image in 11gR1, copy it to owb/lib/ext and download from here;
http://static7.userland.com/oracle/gems/antonioRomero/jexpert.jar
The 11.1.0.7 OWB patch should resolve this, I posted this on the UI extensions screens and referenced the link above towards the end;
http://blogs.oracle.com/warehousebuilder/newsItems/viewFullItem$210
Also the expert was updated for 11g (to cope with workspaces), so if you have the old version download the new one from the exchange;

  • How do we learn more about expert in OWB 10g?

    How do we learn more about expert in OWB 10g?
    We are using OWB repository 10.2.0.1.0 and OWB client 10.2.0.1.31. The Oracle version is 10 G (10.2.0.3.0). OWB is installed on Linux.
    I reviewed user guide. It have little info on expert of OWB 10g.
    I like to know/learn more about it.
    Do we have cookbook type of docs?
    How did our forum members learn about owb 10g expert?
    Thanks in advance.

    Here are various bits and pieces that should get you started, I'll see if there is a cookbook, I know we have an internal one.
    There is an introduction paper here;
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/warehouse/pdf/Oracle%20Warehouse%20Builder%2010gR2%20What%20is%20an%20Expert.pdf
    There are examples on the utility exchange, probably a reasonable one that uses the built in components is the data mover expert;
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/warehouse/htdocs/Experts/datamover.zip
    There are other interesting examples, such as the create dimension from expert that helps building a dimensional structure and maps. For this one I added simple java procedures for a shuttle dialog and a data entry table that allow different information to be captured.
    See the create dimension from expert here;
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/warehouse/htdocs/Experts/datamover.zip
    Another example on accelerating map construction is the SQL to map accelerator which uses the OWB custom dialog to get information, and can be found at the blog post http://blogs.oracle.com/warehousebuilder/newsItems/viewFullItem$198
    You can edit these experts and see the code, the data mover expert has much less code and just glues together pieces of the OWB UI components into a task list that is more specific for the user. The create dimension expert is much more tcl oriented but really simplifies the task at hand.
    Cheers

    I want to use CDC feature in OWB 11gR1 to capture all the changes in database, do I need to change any parameters in source database or install something? My source database is Oracle 10gR3.

    Hi
    For OWB 10gR2 and 11gR1 for example check out the article here:
    http://www.rittmanmead.com/2006/04/14/asynchronous-hotlog-distributed-change-data-capture-and-owb-paris/
    In OWB 11gR2 there is a framework that can be used to do this OOTB:

    Hey guys,
    I recently down loaded oracle 11gR1 (win32_11gR1_database_1013.zip) from oracle free downloads and tried to create a repository using repository assistant. It went up to 97% and hanged over there for ages. Anyone knows how to fix this?
    I am running on windows XP for testing purpose. Databae and the owb client inthe same machine.

  • Reading Data from a Table With an Expert

    Hi all - I'm trying to write an Expert in OWB that would read data from a table and create a new table based on that information. I have the table creation part down, but how can I read data from a table with an Expert? From what I've read, Experts only deal with metadata, and there is no mechanism in Experts to actually read data in the tables. Does OraTcl work in Experts? Has anyone ever came across this problem, and if so, how did you solve it? Thanks in advance for your time! - Don

    Hi Don
    Can also use Java and JDBC from within Tcl, see the routines in this file below, take modify or whatever;
    http://blogs.oracle.com/warehousebuilder/ombora.tcl
    source <dir>\ombora.tcl
    set g_user scott
    set g_upwd zzzzzz
    set g_hostname localhost
    set g_port 1521
    set g_srvname ora111
    oraconnect $g_user $g_upwd $g_hostname:$g_port:$g_srvname
    oraselect "select * from emp" ""
    As well as dumping the results to stdout (you probably want to comment that part out and change any other part you don't like), g_res is a ResultSet object you can use to do whatever.

  • Getting NullPointerException while executing OMBIMPORT in OWB 11gR2

    Hi,
    When running BSC Expert in OWB 11gR2 along with 11.2 Database, getting the following error:
    "PUB03302: Failed to connect to user null in source database null:null:null:java.lang.NullPointerException"
    while executing the statement
    OMBIMPORT FROM METADATA_LOCATION FOR IMPORT_ACTION_PLAN 'BSC_C_$G_OBJECTIVE' .
    Since I am totally new to OMB+, I have no idea about why this is happening.
    Could anyone please give some pointers/solutions for this problem. Because of this issue we are not able to proceed with our certification.
    Thanks,
    Karthik.

    Looking at the exception, looks like the metadata location for module is not set.
    Did you set the metadata location for the module? metadata location is different from data location. metadata location is used for reverse engineer. Please open the module editor, switch to metadata location panel, check if the metedata location is set.

  • OWB pukes on RESULT_CACHE function

    I created a PL/SQL function that uses the result cache - it works well.
    But when I try to import it into OWB, the tool pukes out the following error:
    oracle.wh.ui.integrator.oracle.parser.ParseException: Encountered "RESULT_CACHE" at line 2, column 17OWB and database are both 11g.
    Anyone had success importing result cached functions in OWB?

    The import in the OWB 11g release did not support the result cache functions. You can still use/refer result cache functions in mappings just not import/deploy them, the OWB 11gR1 release was primarily the 10gR2 release with 11g certification and components seeded in the database.
    Cheers

  • Can you use 11gR2 database for 11gR1 standalone?

    Do to the fact that Oracle has not released 11gR2 standalone on windows, our users want us to install the 11gR1 OWB components
    I would like to keep the database version 11gR2, so installed the standalone 11gR1 on the server.
    When I try to create the workspace I get the following error
    Process element SeedData.xml 99%
    (X)
    The warehouse builder workspace owner installation failed on user OWBSYS
    INS0017: Installation of the seeded data failed.MMM1064: Value 11.2 not valid in domain VERSION2
    So can we install the 11gR1 repository in the 11gR2 database? Having lots of trouble finding the certification info in the new metalink

    ..the OWB 11gR1 and 10gR2 versions are not certified with database 11gR2 today.

  • OWB x64 bit client installed with RDBMS does not work?

    Has anyone tried the OWB 11gR1 (11.1.0.7) client installed with Oracle database x64? I found out that I could not perform the following tasks:
    1. could not create a new table
    2. could not import MDL file the first time for a project (only project name is added; I had to run the second time to get all the profile and maps imported)
    It throw out an OWB internal error and hangs after having the above two problems. Is there any configuration need to be done to get it to work correctly?
    Thanks,

    The OWB x64 bit client is broken:

  • OWB/OMBPLUS Set a variable externally.

    Hello everyone,
    Following scenario:
    I have created an expert in OWB. This expert does some action with a mapping and publishes the output to a pdf-file. To publish it, I use an executable somewhere in my filesystem.
    Now I want to create an installer for this expert. I can use OMBIMPORT to insert the expert to my owb-workspace, but I also need an link to the executable.
    Two options I considered:
    1 ^st^ : Set a windows environment variable during installation and access it with TCL. This doesn't seem to work because OMBPLUS is started in a Java VM and I can't access the environment variables.
    2 ^nd^ : Have a variable in my expert ("my_path"). But how do I set this variable with OMBPLUS-commands? I didn't find a proper command for it yet.
    Do you see a solution for my two approaches? Or maybe there is another solution I don't see yet.
    Thanks in advance!

    Okay, I came a step forward.
    I found and took a deeper look into OMBALTER EXPERT.
    I tried now:
    OMBALTER EXPERT "MY_EXPERT" ADD VARIABLE "MY_PATH" SET PROPERTIES ( VALUE ) VALUES ( "C:\my path\to\executable" )
    It doesn't show an error but somehow it doesn't work also.
    Hopefully I read the BNF properly..
    Does anyone of you have experience using OMBALTER EXPERT? Would be great!

  • Repository Browser 11gr1

    Hi all,
    I am using OWB 11GR1. I am unable to use repository browser. I've run the startOwbbInst.bat file. It is opening and closing after sometime by itself.
    Could anybody suggest about that?
    Thanks in advance....

    You got it Robert,
    my owbb folder contained only 500 files against the 1400 inside the owbb.war.
    I extracted a fresh copy from owbb.war and now it works.
    The strange thing is I got no errors when I installed Oracle 11 last week.
    By the way, there's a bug related to Windows Vista.
    The Repository Browser Listener need to be started as Administrator.
    But starting a batch file as Administrator reset the working directory to C:\Windows\System32.
    This way startOwbbInst.bat can't find anymore another batch file it references (setowbenv.bat).A quick workaround is to add
    cd C:\oracle\product\11.1.0\db_1\owb\bin\win32
    (replace it with your real path of course) at the start of startOwbbInst.bat and stopOwbbInst.bat.
    Kind regards,
    Corrado

  • Dynamic import of metadata in owb?

    hello,
    I have to create a data warehouse in an Oracle database 11gR1, the production system is based on Oracle 9.2.0.1, to capture data changes I have to use synchronous cdc because the asynchronous mode requires at least version 9.2.0.6
    in synchronous mode I must generate views each time I want to capture the changes but in owb 11gR1 I can not import views in dynamic mode
    what can you suggest to me in this case?
    thank you
    tarek

    That's unfortunate.
    You'll probably have to write some PL/SQL that does one of two things. First, you could us a synonym to pull the view into OWB. You'll have to use some PL/SQL that drops and recreates the synonym every time you extend the window, to have the synonym point to the new name of the change view. You could do the same thing with a view if you are more comfortable with using a view. One of the parameters passed to the procedure would be the dynamic change view.
    The other thing you could do is have a PL/SQL procedure that selects all the rows out of the change view and inserts them to a regular staging table. Similar to the procedure above, you could pass the dynamic name of the change view but the staging table would always be constant. That way it could be brought into OWB and used successfully.
