Multi-monitor application switching bug in Windows 8.1

In the latest 8.1 update, we got some better features here and there, but using metro apps seem to break multi-monitor setups.
In certain circumstances, the cursor will get "caught" between screen edges, as if the metro app-switcher or charms bar were open.
There's no one way to reproduce this bug, sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't, but it usually starts to happen when switching from a metro app to the desktop on the main display via the top-left hotcorner.
This may also happen in many other circumstances involving metro apps or the hotcorners or anything like that. I have not had a problem involving the start screen so far. Getting rid of it (temporarily) is just as finicky as reproducing the issue. I really
have no idea what makes it go away, but switching back and forth between apps using different methods (hotcorners, taskbar, metro minimize/close buttons) seems to get rid of it until you interact with apps again.
I have an AMD r9 280x and 2 1080p displays. I am not using eyefinity. I am running Win 8.1 Pro updated to the latest 8.1 update where there are metro apps on the taskbar.
Needless to say, this is very annoying. If I can't smoothly move my mouse cursor between screens, it really interferes with a dual/multi screen setup. With all the people with multiple screens, I'd expect more people to have run across this problem, so if
you need more information to identify whether this is a software/OS issue, let me know.

In certain circumstances, the cursor will get "caught" between screen edges, as if the metro app-switcher or charms bar were open.
That's not a bug.  It's a feature.  Unfortunately there is no GUI support for it.  And evidently there needs to be a training dialog, in the same way that there is one for Flicks.  Search for  "Escape Velocity"...

That's strange.  They called it Escape speed?  Implying direction doesn't matter?  <eg>

  • Java bug in a multi monitor application

    Hi,
I am developing an application using three monitors on windows platform. I am using a NVidia GeForce 4 card to derive the monitors. My application opens up in a secondary monitor, It consists of a Canvas whose parent is a JScrollPane, a JTree whose parent is another JScrollPane. The problem is if I load an image on the canvas and slide the scrollbars attached to the canvas, The canvas does not repaint itself, for which I had to add a listener which repaints the canvas each time the scrollbars are slided. Similar problem is with the JTree scroller, so I call the UpdateUI for the jtree each time the scroller is slided. A few days ago I added a JCombobox to my application. When i click it, obviously a dropdown menu appears with a slider. When i move the slider, the JComboBox does not repaint and I am having difficulty capturing the combobox's slider event. That's not all, I also experienced the repaint problem with other swing components for which I have to explicitly call the UpdateUI method. I got to a point that I had to literally call the update method for every swing component I am using which is dropping my applications efficiency. So I changed my monitor's setting and assigned my secondary monitor as the primary monitor using the windows display properties and it worked. The scrollbars work, and everything is repainting. So the solution is to change my display setting programatically so that the secondary monitors becomes the primary monitor, but I am not able to do that. I need some help regarding this.
If I have three monitors on a single computer, and I want to change the secondary monitor to primary, how can I do it using Java?
I hope I explained the problem. I hope someone has an answer.
    Babar Noor

    Using Java:
    java version "1.5.0_02"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_02-b09)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_02-b09, mixed mode)
When working in a multiscreen environment using NVIDIA Quadro PCI-E Series' Quadro NVS 280 PCI-E, with two screens (1024x768 display) , DirectX 9.0. One screen is oriented as portrait (secundary screen), the other a landscape (primary screen).
I run my Swing application, move the frame to the portrait oriented screen,
The gui has a default JScrollPane, then when I maximize the gui, I get a horizontal and vertical scrollbar. Moving the horizontal scrollbar , the default viewport fails to repaint the screen correctly.
The solution that worked for me was to set the ViewPort's scrollMode:
    scrollpane.getViewport().setScrollMode(JViewport.SIMPLE_SCROLL_MODE);
    as suggested in

  • Multi Monitor - different Screeen Saver for different monitor - Setting for notebook computers...

    Hi,
I have a question about the multi monitor, screen saver setting for Windows 7.  I'd like to know 2 questions.
1.) if I can set different screen saver settings on different monitors
2.) If I can do it, can I work on the external (or non-primay) monitor, when I have the primary monitor with "blank" screen saver?
Basically, I put my notebook computer at the docking station at work, and the docking station is connected to a 22" monitor, desktop keyboard and mouse.  So, at work, the 22" monitor and K/B would be my primary use.  However, I still "flip"
open the notebook monitor for dual monitor use.
I'd like to "save" the notebook monitor when I don't use it for 30 min. or so...  I'd like to "power" it off or set it so that it would only turn on if I move my mouse to that screen.
Is there a way to do it?
    Thanks

    Hi
There isn't any way to do what you are describing.
The reason is that both monitors have the same source for the video. You can extend the video to the second monitor, but this just gives you more screen space.
The screen saver will only display on the monitor that is set as the default and when the screen saver starts, the other monitor will be blank.
    Hope this helps.
Thank You for using Windows 7

  • Windows 10 hiding taskbar in multi-monitors setup bug.

This bug persists since windows 8.1 and is already discussed
here, but it wasn't fixed in approx. half a year :( So, I'm gonna give it a try here.
Here's the screenshot of it in Windows 10.
Well, the bug is with incorrectly disappearing taskbar - taskbar "hides" not in the bottom of the screen, but "taskbar height pixels" higher (see the images in onedrive folder below). It hides in such a way only when you go to start screen
with visible taskbar, wait until it disappears and return to desktop in any way (by pressing the win key, by selecting desktop on startscreen or by clicking the windows logo in the lower left corner);  this bug only appears with two monitors setup and
heavily depends on monitors position - the secondary monitor bottom should be below primary monitor bottom (I mean not physical location, of course, but monitors' relative location in "Screen resolution" menu). The bug didn't appear before Update
1; I can't confirm whether it is reproduceable only on my PC at the moment.
I have reproduced the bug on windows 8.1 U1 across several computers with 100% success rate: two macbooks pro retina, lenovo laptop, two desktops (on one of them I reproduced the bug via teamviewer). I've reproduced it today in VMWare with windows 10 Technical
    Preview.
This bug is really annoying - when it happens, you need "to cast some magic" - move the mouse to the bottom of the screen, activate/deactivate several applications, etc. in order for taskbar to reappear properly, let alone the fact that it looks
    unaesthetic.
    Skydrive folder with bug screenshot
    Screen recording of the bug
    Step-by-step guide with screenshots

Yeah, I already did it. I just wanted to open it here, because I've been trying to contact MS about this bug for almost half a year with no success, so I'm just trying to bring their attention to this thing in all ways possible. I could reproduce this bug
on all the systems I've tried so far, and I've managed to reproduce it even on VMWare in newly-installed windows 10 TP in a single try.
    @rgggg
I can't understand what do you mean by weakness in graphics. It's a 100% functionality bug. Also, of course, I have nothing to do except reporting some non-existent bugs, making fake screenshots etc. I can't understand what do you mean about "intermediate
servers", and it's almost impossible to change every Windows iso distributive I've downloaded in such a way that this bug will appear there :D

  • Uix 2.2.8 multi monitor related bug

    Hi,
I have a multi monitor system, on the seconnd screen, there is the browser , showing a page which has a Date Picker and a LOV. If I click on one of the icons, the window opens, and then all of a sudden jumps to the first screen with IE, with Mozilla it already opens on the first one. Same screen would be nice though.
    Bye Jan

    Hello Jan,
In the UIX javascript code the newly opened window's coordinates are checked to make sure it is not partially off the screen. If so, the window's coordinates are adjusted to put it on the screen.
I think there is a bug in IE which doesn't treat the multi-monitors as a single monitor, or something like that. Unfortunately, I doubt we can do anything about this.
Are you saying it works in Mozilla, correct?
    Thanks,
    Jeanne

  • How can I switch between multiple windows of the same application (e.g. Safari) over several desktops ?

    Hi All,
I have one application, for example safari, open and running with multiple windows (with or without tabs) spread over several desktops.
How can I switch between the windows only via keyboard? CMD+> and CMD+< let me only swicht between windows open on the one desktop I am currently looking at.
    thanks for your replies,
    equi

    Barney,
many thanks for your efforts and your time (preparing and posting the screenshot, answering to this question,...).
Unfortunately, moving the focus to the next window only works with windows on the same desktop.
btw, using a german keyboard layout and german language settings the shortcut is "cmd+<".
I can switch with this shortcut between different windows of my Safari which reside on the same desktop, but I cannot swith between different safari windows distributed over several desktops.

  • How to switch between 2 windows of the same application using Cmd+Tab

    Hi,
I am using my mac now since about 10 months. I was used to work with Linux and Windows XP.
Something I am badly missing on mac os x is the possibility to switch between 2 windows of the same application using cmd + tab just like it simply works for Linux and Windows (and maybe many other OS out there!).
Very often I have 2 text files open in 2 editor windows (e.g. TextEdit) and need to copy and paste text from one window to the other. I was used to simply use ALT+TAB. But here I have to get my right hand away from the keyboard and use the mouse to change the focus from one window to the other and then use the mouse again to get the focus back to the previous TextEdit windows.
THIS REALLY *****!!!! It makes me crazy. I cannot believe that such a "modern" OP does not support this action. I must be doing something completely wrong or did not understand the mac correctly. Right?
Does anyone have an idea how I can get mac to do something all other operating systems so easily do?
    Thanks
    Quartz84

    Hi Kappy,
well what you are saying is obvious to me. This is not the point for me and not what I wanted to know. But I think you answered my question anyway: OS X is unable to switch between windows of the same application as I mentioned in my example.
    WHY NOT???
Every other OS is able to differentiate between windows and not just applications.
Another example: The Mail application and an Email editor window. When you are writing an Email and you want to switch to the main window of the Mail application to read something you must again use the mouse!
I mean Apple seems to be "somehow" using FreeBSD in the background and even in FreeBSD's window manager it is possible to switch between windows of the same application.
Well, in the Apple world it is always the pour user who is not intelligent enough to understand Apple's philosophy ;-(
To me this is not modern, it is simply a weakness of the OS.
    Cheers

  • How to to slect opened window on specific monitor in multi monitor system

    Hi,
I have four monitor attached to my box. I have already implemented code to move selected window on given monitor on hokey. e.g window1 is opened on monitor one and if that window is active then using hot key i am moving it to specified monitor like Ctrl+1
move to monitor 1, Ctrl + 2 move to monitor 2 ..so on..
Now i want to implement another hot key, which will activate the window opened on specified monitor. means if i press Alt +1 then if any window is on the monitor should get active and if i press alt + 3 then if any window is there on monitor 3 should
get activated. So how to achieve this?

    Hi Vipul,
    >>I have already implemented code to move selected window on given monitor on hokey
I'm not sure which way you have used to accomplish this feature, in my experience, we can use Screen class to handle multiple display devices:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/System.Windows.Forms.Screen(v=vs.110).aspx
    By using
Screen.AllScreens property, we can get an array of all displays on the system, then Screen.WorkingArea can help us to determine on which display the window is showing.
This previous case is also helpful:

  • Maximize Windows using the Application Switcher

I have my application switcher set to activate when I click the ball on the Mighty Mouse. However if the application I switch to is minimized in the dock, it doesn't maximize it for me. Wondering if anyone would know of a fix for this?

I've been looking everywhere for a way to change this, or at least disable the shortcut. I have the same problem, but with QuarkXPress. I know that the command originates from the Dock, so I bet there's a way to hack the Dock so it disbles the shortcut...

  • Multi-Monitor PSE 9 Corrupt Display

    Multi-Monitor PSE 9 Corrupt Display
    Evening all -
First post here at PS Gurus.  I hope that you guys can lend your  expertise in pinning down an issue that I am having and have also had on  other PS versions.  I am running
    Windows 7 (64 bit) Ultimate
    2600k / 8 gb ram / 256 Samsung SSD / 460 GTX 1GB
    Matrox Triplehead 2 Go with x3 22" monitors (resolution 5040 x1050)
A fresh install of the trial version of PSE 9 is yielding corrupt main  toolbar and options bar (for each tool selected).  The application is  expanding full screen on all three monitors just fine but the toolbar  are corrupt - partly transparent / party compressed to the left.  No  matter what I have done in terms of resizing the application window the  results are the same or get worse.
On another computer I installed PS CS5 (also under win7 64 bit  environment) and I was having the same issue.  However, at the time I  thought the install was bad in some shape or form so I dropped the  issue.
I am now considering PSE 9 but see that Win7 + Matrox just isn't  working correctly with this combination of hardware / software  components.
Has anyone see this issue or know of a potential fix?  I have read a  couple of threads on the net with similar issues but I don't see any  resolution.  Your help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks-
    Benjamin

My main reason for testing PSE-O 9.0 was to find out if this "bug" was fixed. I can not use PSE-O to organize and show pictures the way I want to with this weaknes in place. Your answer is probably correct, bun not at all helpfull.
So thank you for trying, but my test of PSE O is over for now.
Does anybody out there know of other products that will do the trick?

  • Jdev11g: Has anyone developed a multi -langual application successfully?

    Hi,
In our application the user can change the language of the application by selecting it from as drop-down-list.
This works fine if we run the application with embedded WLS.
But running it on external WLS the language switch does not have any effect.
We have already filled bug 7588599 for this issue which is also reproduceable from Oracle Support.
At the moment I do not know a workaround.
I can't believe that there is nobody out there who has already been successfull with a multi-langual application on external WLS?
I hope to find a workaround in this forum to avoid waiting for backport patch.

    repost

    Hi,
    problem is solved!
    Excerpt from the SR:
Development did find the cause of the problem. The framework does lookup the language files in a specific format. That is the language must be in lower case and not in uppercase. In this case the file system is case insensitive since it is windows, so the exploded app just happened to work since it was finding the file on the file system. When deploying the application the file is being looked up by the jar/zip-finder which is working case-sensitive and thus it cannot find the file "startBundle_en.properties".
The application should name the resource files exactly how they will be looked up by the application and by the ResourceBundleManagerRT.
Rename the file "startBundle_EN.properties" into "startBundle_en.properties".
    regards
    Peter

  • Application Switching not working in Spaces

I'm having some trouble with Spaces and Application switching. Randomly the feature that switches the space to the right Application when you click on the dock stops working. The menu bar will change to the right application but the window and space will stay the same. Clicking the Window menu and selecting the window you want to go to doesn't work either. This problem also persists if you are in another Application like Safari and another application is behind it. You click the application in the dock and the menu bar changes, but Safari (or whatever program you were in before) stays in the front. The only way to switch is to manually click the spaces button on the dock and select the window you want which can get really annoying. A computer restart fixes the problem but I don't like having to restart my computer every other day or so.

Well, my mouse issue turned out to be a Logitech Control Center/ Leopard issue. It was resolved with an update from Logitech but Spaces is still buggin' hard. When I try to switch spaces using Spaces this is what happens:
I'm in Mail (space 3) and I wish to switch to Safari (space 1)
I open spaces, click on space one and things become slow-motion the menu bar switches to Safari but the window switches to iTunes (space 2)
This stops with a restart but eventually it starts happening again. I switch fine if I click the application icon in the dock but not if I use Spaces.
Irrelevant of this bug but another recent freakout occurred when iTunes stopped dragging and dropping so I restarted. I was greeted with a hang on the grey screen with the black wheel for several hours. I eventually got it to power down again. I then pulled the power cord from the back, reconnected it and it restarted. All was fine until the return of the SpaceBug a few minutes ago.

  • Any 3rd party utilities that fix full screen mode for multi-monitor users?

I am a multi-monitor user.  As multi-monitor users know, full screen mode is basically useless since if you try to go full screen on one monitor, it causes the other monitor to go blank and become unusable (at least with most programs).  Are there any 3rd party utitilities or fixes for this?
    Thanks

Spaces, which is what this functionality stems from, was limited in that it used your entire setup and switched all of the screens over; space to space. I never used spaces because I always had multiple monitors and I was always working with multiple apps simultaneously that I wanted to be able to reference while working on the others.
Now they call Spaces, "mission control" and changed the appearance of it, but the functionality remained the same, each workstation comprised all of your monitors, and would switch over all of them when switching to a new "Desktop".
Fullscreen apps wrongly assumes that it can take the functionality of the afformentioned MS/Spaces and use it for one app, negating the whole idea of why someone would have multiple screens (real estate to work with other applications).
If they stop considering multiple monitors as one Workspace, they can then make it so they are asynchronous "tablets" instead of one conjoined entity.
So, you say people have been asking about this for 2 years, I've been asking for this for 5!
The issue here is, the only answer is to not use it. Making Mission Control and Fullscreen apps completely ignored by people like us, where I could be using both functions to glide around my work station and three monitors, mixing and matching which apps I want to be viewed on each separate monitor, to perform one single task; together.
It would actually reward people who wanted to utilize Thunderbolt technology and have more then one monitor.
There is no telling why apple chose to push out something that would only support the casual user, with one display, but the only direct way to let apple know that we feel limited by the OS is to send feedback. Even though it seems that we are powerless in this situation, I hope that they do consider how to make this function better.

  • Dual/ multi monitor

I would like to see more options for dual monitor setups with Win7.
Here is my situation.  My primary monitor is 4:3 and my secondary monitor is widescreen.  I use the primary monitor for opening windows explorer and my secondary monitor for viewing.  When viewing movies, I like to set the secondary monitor to landscape mode and when viewing docments and browsing I like to set the monitor to portrait mode.
I've used ultramon with Vista but that has lots of problems.  Heres are some stuff that I would like to see implemented.
    - Be able to make monitor/display profiles with shortcuts in the taskbar (to switch from single to dual, landscape vs profile).
    - Create a move window button to move open window from one monitor to the other.
    - Be able to use different wallpaper for each monitor, would be nice if it can be attached to display profiles.

Hello,There has been talks of Multi Monitor support by Microsoft.  For information as to what was said refer to this Blog entry.
As for a list of the useful HotKeys check out this topic here.  They have quite a few of the new hotkeys listed there.

  • Application Switcher?

    Hey guys,
Quick question: In all of these tutorial video's I'm watching, whenever they switch between Illustrator and InDesign or any other programs, a window pops up on their screen that shows the icons of (I'm guessing) the open programs they have up. Does anyone know what this is, or how to get it? I use dual monitors and while I can alt+tab np, the icons are a bit small and I sometimes have up 2-3 adobe programs + firefox + some MS office programs... it would be nice to have something like what I see in the video's. Thanks guys.

Yeah, after I've done some looking around (just started looking at purchasing a mac by recommendation from a graphic designer friend) and noticed that that sideways smiley face thingy goes for Mac. I know that there are icons you can have (like on the RocketDock for example) that it doesn't matter if you have Mac to have the icons, but that program or alternative to alt+tab is probably on a mac. I've noticed that most of the guys doing tutorials for photoshop and other graphic programs use mac.

RocketDock is great, I love it. Thank you so much for that link, never even knew something like this was available. While it wasn't exactly what I had originally asked with the picture example, it has already made my life easier today because of all the different programs and windows I have running. Thanks!
Everything Old is new again. The item shown in  chanceibmmy's screenshot is indeed a Mac Item but the reference to RapidDock is a windows thing. I went to the site.
Application switch is an item that is added to Main Menu bar that brings back a feature that was a part of Macintosh OS 9 and lower. you had a menu item, that when clicked opened a drop-down list with all the Applications that are open. You could go to another application, by simply going to the drop down list and you were switched  to that application.
Now we have the dock which is smilar to windows startup menu bar.
    Partial shot of my Dock:
We have option of choose to open  like the above or simply click on dock item.
Or when application is open we can do as here:
