(Multi^n)plot Waveform Graphs

I'm using LabView 8.2 and I need a waveform graph with twenty waveforms overlayed onto it (actually two waveforms taken ten times each, if that matters--but no, I can't just average them).  Using Build Array to make a standard multiplot with the Express Waveform Graph doesn't work, however, apparently because the express VI can only handle two waveforms at once.
Suggestions?

Hi DJDDA,
when the Express vi doesn't work don't use it!
Just use the way that is shown in the context help of a waveform graph indicator: simply build an array of plots...

  • Turn off a single plot of a multiple plot waveform graph

I have a multiple plot waveform graph (4 plots). I want to turn off one of the plots, say plot 2. Is this posible from the graphs property node? The property node seems to only give a reference to plot 0. I am using labview 7.
    Cheers,
    Wayne

I think you can use "active plot" together with "plot.visible"
property node to control which one you'd like to display. By default,
the property node refers to plot 0, but you can change to plot 1 or
other plots by changing active plot property node. You can search
"Plot" in LabVIEW Help if you'd like to know details.
    Good luck,

  • Data acquisition and waveform graph plot

    Dear All
My signal is out put of current transformer which is 2v dc. I succesfully configure usb 1208fs with labview8.2. Now I want to plot my input signal on the waveform graph in frequency vs amplitude(db). Can any one guide me how can i plot my data?

    Hi,
Could you strip the VISA stuff and re-post your VI so I could run it and see where is the difference coming from. A few observations though
    1. Always try to wire from left to right and top to bottom so that your block diagram code is readable.
     2. A waveform graph gets completely redrawn everytime you give it soem data ao it is typically used outside any loops. If you want to display a waveform inside a loop, it is better to use waveform chart.

  • Get a waveform graph to stop plotting after a given time period

I am doing a research project looking at the effects of modifying visual feedback on a person's current force output. I have a waveform graph that plots the target force level they are trying to match (specified by me) and next to it a second plot showing their current force output (in real time). I am trying to make a condition where the current force output plot (or really the whole waveform graph) stops plotting after a 10 s time period, but can't seem to get it to work. It either plots for the whole trial, or does not plot at all. Is there a way to put a timer on a waveform graph in order to tell it to stop plotting after a specified time period?
    Thanks!

    Hi again,
I have tried to open the .vi you sent, but I have version 8.2 (yours is in version 8.5) and cannot open it. Is there a way for you to tave the.vi so that it can be opened with earlier versions of the program?
I have attatched my .vi to this message as well.

  • How to get a fixed plot area in a Waveform Graph even if the Y scale's precision change

Because I'm stacking many Waveform Graph. I want them to look the same. When I change the precision of the values in the Y Scale. The plot area doesn't keep its initial width. In the example provided. I'm changing the precision and you can see it moving. Is there a way to keep the width fixed?
I noticed that there is justification for unit label. But I didn't got the expected behavior.

The menu item is only in LabVIEW 6.1 and above because the plot area did not autoscale in earlier versions so I'm not sure exactly what kind of problem you're seeeing. Here's the original example in 6.0 format and when I run it, the plot areas stay aligned as the precision changes. Could you maybe post an example that demonstrates the behavior?

  • Can't plot image into WDT waveform graph

I'm trying to plot an icon onto a WDT waveform graph but it doesn't seem to be working. The image plots while using the default (array of doubles) data type, but goes missing when I change to WDT. As far as I can tell, the two graphs are the same except for their data type.
Am I missing a step or is this a LabVIEW bug?

I was able obtain the icon on the WDT waveform graph in your code by changing the property selected on its property node to PlotImages.Middle.

  • How do I determine the number of plots on a waveform graph?

How do I determine the number of plots that have previously been plotted on a waveform graph? I am loading dynamic data from a file. If I convert to an array and size it and there is only one plot, I get the number of data points and I don't know how to tell the difference.

Usually by reading the graph terminal or a local of it and determining the first or second dimension (not sure which at the moment) size of the resulting 2 dimensional array. If it is a 1 dimensional array you have either only one plot or an array of clusters each representing one plot. But as these data types are determined by compile time, there shouldn't be a problem with this causing ambiguity.

  • How does waveform graph downsamples the data before it is plotted

    Hi,
I'm interested in how does waveform graph downsamples the data before it is plotted and what algorithm is used for this purpose? My goal is to plot 30 plots that have 1M samples each and I would like to downsample them before plotting onto a graph. I tried several VIs/algorithms for resampling and none of them gave the same result as seen by waveform graph (when all the samples are plotted).
For example, if only one sample of 1M samples is 1 and all others are 0, then after downsampling to 1k samples the sample is not visible on the graph anymore. However, if I plot all 1M samples directly onto the graph, then also this 1 sample is visible (see attached example).

    Hi andrej,
LabVIEW draws plots in the way that draw every pixel affected by signal. So for example if there is zero-valued 1M samples and even one equals to 1, you will see the peak. That is the reason why you do not get the exactly same behavior comparing to interpolating. But if you set FIR as interpolation mode in Resample Waveforms (single shot).vi, result is really similar, but of course amplitude is 1000-times smaller than original one (because there is dt set to 1000). Keep also in mind that in Graph 2, there is different Y-scale and it should be considered as noise, not relevant data, I would expect 1000-times smaller amplitude as in Graph 3, it is many more times smaller.
I would also like to say something about downsampling (decimating) the data. If you have 1M samples, you can see the peak even that there is only one value. But bigger problem is that with this graph resolution (I guess that is not more than 1000px), it is problem to find position of this peak. It means that still the zoom is needed to know where the peak is. Usually, when there is that big set of data, you are extracting different data (statistical information, peaks in FFT, etc.) not just visual data in graph.

I do not understand your question, can you please describe more your needs? You mentioned saving the data into a file, you can use Write to Measurement File express VI or see Write to Text File.vi in Example Finder and try to appropriately modify it.

  • How plotting on a digital waveform graph the bit transition in function of the time

    Hi everyone,
I am using LabView 6.1 on a Windows XP computer. I am to plot output bits sequences on a digital waveform graph just before sending the information to a board.
So far I can see the transitions for my 16-bit port (16 plots) but the width of a pulse is always identical, no matter what times I enter. I wired my 1-D array timestamps to the property node Xscale.MarkerVals[] of my digital waveform graph... but it doesn't seem to affect my plotting...
Thanks in advance for any help concerning this problem.

  • How do i plotting waveforms on wavefrom graph accumulatively ?

    Hi,
I'm trying to plot waveforms in a single waveform graph accumulatively.
As my program is in a "For Loop", everytime it runs once, it will produce a waveform and display out in the graph.
So if i set the loop to run 30 times, the graph will have 30 waveforms in it. But the problem is that everytime a new waveform is produced, it will replace the previous waveform in the waveform graph.
Even if i loop it for 30 times, the waveform graph will only have 1 waveform(latest) been displayed.
How can i solve it ? I want the graph to display all the 320 waveforms if i loop it for 320 times.
    Thanks in advance.

Try using a waveform chart instead of a waveform graph if it's all the same signal and you want to see it appended.
If that's not what you're after, you'll have to be more specific.

  • Programmatically Changing Waveform Graph and the number of plots

I have a waveform graph that needs to display a variable number of plots based on the number of inputs.  Is there a way to programmatically adjust the number of plots displayed on the waveform graph?

You need to use the Active Plot input before the Plot Name(s).  Property nodes are read from top to bottom so you can alternate several pairs of ActPlot,Plot.Name;ActPlot,Plot.Name, etc.  Then wire 0,1,2,etc to the ActPlot and your chosen name to the Plot.Name right under it.  Or, use for loops and index the ActPlot input.  See the pic.

  • Add plots to digital waveform graph programmatically

    Hi Guys,
This might be an easy one but I can't seem to find the right property. I'm adding "Plot Name" values for a each Plot in a Digital Waveform Graph. I select each plot with "Active Plot" property and name it. However if there are already e.g. 7 plots and I try to set eight plot active (i.e. 7 = Active Plot) I get an error cause this eight plot doesn't exist on the graph, and so can't be named.
How can I add (or indeed remove) plots using property nodes?
        Thanks

    Hello,
One thing to consider is the actual data the graph is receiving.  Choosing plot 8 in this case is perhaps attempting to choose a plot which doesn't exist in the data, which could be why you're seeing the error.
Off the cuff, one thought might be to have the following "steps" take place when you want to add plots:
on the appropriate action to create a plot, create a default data set representing that plot
package that with your overall graph data so that the new plot exists in the data
write that data to the graph, perhaps using the Value Signaling property (via a property node linked to the Graph)
trap the graph's Value Change event using an event structure (possibly in a parallel loop) and update the plot name there (much like you are today - using a property node to first set the active plot to <previous value + 1> since you just added a plot, and then set your new plot name)
Not sure what the rest of your application looks like, but hope this helps!

  • How do I Change the plot waveform colour on a Dynamic Data type Graph?

I have multiple different plots on different graphs, and I want to set the colours of the different waveforms.
In order to display the waveforms on different graphs, I switched to Dynamic data type and then split the wire
according to how many channels I have.
I can set the graph background colour with a property node, and create cursors of different colours no problem
using the array of references that I have created, so there is nothing wrong with my array of references or the property node.
As soon as I try and wire a colour box into the Plot>Plot Colour control, I get error 1055 out of the property node.
I was wondering if it was an error between the keyboard and the chair, but now I am thinking it is someting more sinister.
The Error box pops up and can't be dismissed remaining the focus until I run TASKKILL on LabVIEW and terminate it.
Any ideas on how to achieve my goal would be appreciated.

  • How can I programmatically remove a selection of plots from a waveform graph?

I have a waveform graph to display a number of plots, which I need to programmatically add and delete to as selections of data are chosen by the user for display.
I've looked under the VI Server Property node and cannot see anything suitable for adding extra plots, or removing existing plots. I expected to see a Plot Data array variable, with each element containing the data for each of the plots on the graph. There is such an array for the annotations, which I can easily edit by Removing Subset for Array, or Insert into Array, but nothing for the plot data. The Value property is a Variant, which I'm unsure how to handle. Should I be working with this perhaps? Can this be done by creating a Local Variable read node? Or am I missing something simple here??
Thoric (CLA, CLED, CTD and LabVIEW Champion)

    Hi Mike,
I was trying to use the Property Node (Value) to read the waveform graph, but I was getting a Variant type back, not a 2D array of DBLs as I expected. Turns out I was passing the graph control reference to a subvi whose control refnum had the Include Type flag unchecked. As a result of this explicit definition, Value was of an uncertain (undefined) type and couldn't be natively provided. It would have had to have been cast into a more specific type to work. Have solved the problem by ensuring all my references are of a strict type, and now (as you recommend) the Property Node (Value) is useful
    Many thanks for the response!
And many thanks for the demo too! You put that together remarkably quickly!

  • How to copy one plot from a waveformGraph or a chart to an other waveform Graph in run time?

    Hello...
I need to copy a chart og waveform graph to another waveform graph in runtime, but its not working, I tried to copy froma chart to a graph by using the history property, but it didn't work coz it just runs the data from the chart the same way in the graph. I sort off want a standing plot from the chart to graph. or from graph to graph. it doesn't matter.
The meaning by that is that I want to check the data , by using the graph pallete and the cursor pallette.
But I can't do that if the source graph  is running.
so by copieng the graphs data to another graph. i can check the data all the time i want.
I Hope someone out there Understand what I mean. My english is not that good.
