Multicam editing multiple chroma key background

hi,
I'm shooting and editing interviews with 3 cameras with a Chroma Key green screen.
Cam 1 - Wide angle shot, showing both the interviewer and the guest.
Cam 2 - The interviewer
Cam 3 - The guest
Now I need to do a multicam sync based on audio.
Then I have applied keyer effect to each and gets perfect chroma keying for each camera and had no problem editing using Angle Viewer.
Now my problem is ALL the backgrounds in Cam 1,2,3 are the same. It looks kind of weird.
How do I sync different background to each of the Camera with Chroma keyer and Multicam editing?
Is there a way to link a different background to each camera?

The original footage is meaningless. You've said you got the clips after the key was pulled so you're looking at a self-contained movie with an alpha channel.

  • Chroma key backgrounds

    Hello, I have been asked to do a job editing some stuff shot on chroma key backgrounds and would be using there editing suite. I've never actually done this before but looking at a couple of tutorial videos on youtube it seems pretty straight forward. My understanding of the process so far is;
Make sure there aren't too many creases/drop shadows
Put the original footage in V2
Then effects - Video filters - key - chroma keyer
Eyedrop on the green background then move the sliders
    Edgethin and soften the edges
Then the spill suppressor green/blue and do any cropping etc
Put the backgound in V1 and then you're done.
Obviously this is the basic process, but what I'm after with this message is any advice/tips, or common problems people come across when doing this. I will do a practice one before I do the job but don't have a green screen, how easy is it to do against a plain white wall?
Any advice would be great, thanks in advance!

  • Photoshop images for chroma key background smaller than frame size??

    Hi Guys can anyone help.
New to Final Cut Express. Putting together a project with Chroma Key and creating backgrounds in Photoshop. Creating PAL D1/DV 768x576 images. importing into final cut and image will not fit frame. I'm obviously doing something wrong. Any suggestions please? Thanks

Those numbers are for square pixel image sizes not for D1 pixels. Use those numbers for a flat image or one without transparency using square pixels.

  • Chroma Key object creates only an apha channel when a second object is blended

    Hi there,
I try to use the chrome key effect to have a person speaking in front of a background.
    So I have 2 objects.
    Video 1 = background (jpg-image)
Video 2 = video object edited with chrome key effect.
Layering both levels I see the background with the alpha channel of the second layer on top.
If I decative the first level (Video 1 = jpg image) I can see the videoclip with the transparent backgound.
    What am I doing wrong?
Can anybody help me with that issue?
    Looking forward for ideas...
    Thanks from Germany!
    Tom

Ultra key is the best choice for chroma keying.
Video with ultra key set on higher layer. In Your  Effects Control Tab , the Opacity Settings value should at 100 with the blend mode set to normal.
Ultra Key (UK) set up should be listed beneath the Opacity & Time Remapping settings. Use the color picker in UK to select the green in your source clip.
Then fine tune settings. I like setting UK's output the Alpha when I am adjusting the quality of Key, then back to composite for preview and normal viewing.
You can prep the footage for keying with fast color corrector, boosting the chroma saturation and heightening the contrast(watch out for over bright whites) a little bit.
Still image on lower layer with no keying added and opacity blending on normal.

  • Question about Chroma Key Lights

Any kind of light for chroma key background will be alright?? I guess shopping to wal mart would be ok? Let me know.

    ummmm, not likely.
You should have a VERY even spread of light across the chroma background, plus a good backlight to seperate your subject from the background as well as good front light on your subject.
Flourescent bulbs are great for even spread, but you should really try to get bulbs balanced for tunsten or daylight. There are filters/gels that can be used with consumer florescents, but even then you may get some tinting of your color spectrum.
Have you ever shot chroma? If you do not shoot it properly, you'll have nightmares in post.
You can place your lights above the camera line for talent, above the talent for chroma and above the chroma back at talent...(These can be more directional so you don't flare out your lens)
There are optimal lux values you should try to achieve, but I'll let others be more specific.
That said, I'll bet someone will chime in and tell how they did it with WalMart lights...I'm just offering a suggestion that might make it easier in post.

  • Chroma keying and color correction on same clip

I have an image, with some people shot on a green chroma key background. I want to key it on another image, and desaturate it, except the yellow color.
I have no problem keying out the green. I can also desaturate the image, with the deaturate filter, but if I apply the color corrector, and work with it to only keep the yellow color in the image, then my chroma keying is lost.
It kinda turns of the chroma key completely.
What is the easiest way to chroma key out the green of an image and desaturate everything except the yellow color of the image?
I have Final Cut Studio, so if it's easier to do it in Motion, then I'll do that...?
It's shot on HDV, so it's already a little tricky to key out the green perfectly.
    thanks for your help.

After you key the image, export it as a self contained QT movie. Then re-import it, and color correct it to suit your needs.

  • Best Practices CS6 - Multicam Edit: How to use a key?

I'm trying to figure out what's the best way to use the Multi-cam editing function of CS6 PP, while applying a key to the primary video track.
The workflow I have is V1 contains the background that I want to key into V2. I applied UltraKey to V2, did the key (works great), and now I want to use the multicam editing to cut between the finished keyed V2 track, and video on V3. The way I've always used the Multicam editing in the past is to select the video clips from the clip browser (not the timeline) to create a multicam source sequence - but if I have to apply a key first, I can't do that. I thought of nesting V1 and V2 together after the key is applied, but then I can't make adjustments to the key after the final composite is made (or can I?)
Any thoughts about what works best in this scenario? appreciate the help.

I don't think my system could support live keying. I'd prefer to apply the key first but this is where I had a problem. Let's assume for a minute that there's no key. In a typical MCS workflow, I'd just select the clips from the browser, create the MCS, do the live cuts and be done with it. If I can still do that it's fine, but would that screw everything up in the MCS if I move all the video up one track because the background for the key has to be in front of the video that it's being applied to? I hope I'm making sense here.

  • Background Chroma Key

    Hey guys,
first of all sorry for my bad english I hope you understand what I want
Is there a function in AE to subtract the background behind an object when I have the background without the object as well? (I want something like a chroma key, just for all without the object)
    For example:
I have a video from a game with the character in front. Then I have the same video without the character. Now I want to delete the background so only the character is left on a black background.
I tried all the effects like difference, subtract etc... but they don't work that well.
Is there any effect that can do what I want?
    Thanks

I know it's a while now... but here is an example
    1. I have a video of the Background:
    2. I have a video with an object/character in front of the Background.
    3. I want now only in this case the angel.
With which function or effect can I subtract the Background so I'm just left with the angel.
    Thanks

  • Multicamera Edit Lags in PPro CS4

    Hi,
I am experiencing cumulative delays when making multicamera edits using the multicamera window in CS4.  I am about halfway through a 2 hour video, and with 2 or 3 streams of HDV 23.976 (Canon) video everything plays fine in the Multicamera window when starting up PPro fresh.  As soon as I press a key to switch active streams, the video starts playing very jerky, and it takes 2-3 seconds for the red highlight box to switch to the selected stream.  If I continue on without stopping and continue to keyboard select the active multicam window, the delay becomes longer and longer before the red highlight switches to the active stream. And the playback remains jerky.  If I stop playback, and start again everything is smooth until I select a different stream in the multicamera window.
Playback of the completed multicam edited sequence from the timeline is fine - no issues at all.
I am running a Core i7 3.0GHz processor with 3GB RAM and multiple SATA 7200K hard drives.
Any thoughts on what may be causing this?  I don't remember having this type of multicam edit performance degradation with CS3 on a less powerful machine.

    Does any of this help?

  • Plug-in or 3rd party for Chroma keying with DV footage

We shoot Betacam SP, captured to DV with a DSR-45P DV/DVCAM deck.
From what I learn on the web, green is preferred if you edit on DV, due to the color sampling. (4:1:1 for PAL?).
However, it also depends on what background you have. Use green if you are in the forest, use blue if you are at the beach. Sort of.
The built-in chroma keying in FCP is OK, but not more than that. What do you recommend using?
I've found the dVMatte from www.dvgarage.com - is it good?

Just for DV media, the AdvantEdge plug-in from Ultimatte has a preset. It has a resampling method for 4:1:1 (or 4:2:0 if PAL) media like DV.
    Take a look:

  • Alternative to Chroma Key?

I'm trying to find the simplest way to remove the background from video footage. I have a green screen but the models outfit is mainly green and blue. I haven't shot the video yet so I'm looking for either a better way to film this or to edit it.

The only alternative to a chroma key is rotoscoping. The new Roto Brush does a good job of removing the pain of roto on some shots, but on others you have to do the tried and true method.
More tips on rotoscoping here: Managing and animating shape paths and masks
Resources on the Roto Brush here: Roto Brush in After Effects
That being said, there are things you can do to make chroma keying a shot like this easier. Lighting is one thing that will make a world of difference.
Keying tips here: >Greenscreen and Bluescreen Checklist
One specific thing that might help is a really tight junk matte: Creating Super Tight Junk Mattes
Is there any way to change the wardrobe of the model?
What kind of green and blue are we talking? And what sort of fabric?
What does the rest of the model look like? I've known folks to use a red screen (or some other color) when shooting green or blue objects. I mean, if your model isn't human or is wearing a lot of makeup, you could push it to make it far enough from red.
Anyway, like any composite, you're likely to need to use a number of techniques to get it right.

  • Chroma key after fixing movement in motion

I created baseballs flying around in fcp with a sky background. The moves were jerky so I sent to motion and smoothed the movement. I brought it back to FCP applied the chroma keyer to remove the green screen. When I do that the green goes away but the background goes black. Why does the sky layer below disappear when I turn on the chroma keyer?
Also why doesnt motion have croma keyer. Color keyer does not work as well as chroma key.

    dougleax wrote:

You created them? You mean you edited together some video clips of baseballs? Or you mean you animated a graphic of a baseball? Big difference. Big difference in how we will advise you to move along.
-It is a video of rotating baseball against a green color animated to look like being thrown.-
    dougleax wrote:

You should only process the original media. I cannot tell from this statement if you know how stabilization actually works. If you are chromakeying the stabilized video clip, you may want to perform additional work on it. For instance, is the shutter speed high enough to reduce image blur? Is the footage interlaced?
-No stabilization used. The movements is FCP were Jerky between keyframes. FCP motion is hard to control. Thats why we use Motion...to smooth the movement..correct?
    dougleax wrote:

Ah. So your original statement about creation in FCP was misleading or incompletely descriptive. Is this a still image of a baseball against green? Or are these video clips of off screen hands tossing baseballs across the screen? If they're video, don't stabilize them, reshoot it with the camera on a tripod.
-I brought it back to FCP. When I did the original Chroma Keyer was lost.-
    dougleax wrote:

Then you're not using the keyer properly. You may be looking at the matte or the processed key and not the output or final image.
-turn on keyer the green goes away and the sky image appears where there was green, but the rest of the background goes black.-

The blue/green keyer in Motion is fabulous. Why are you using the color keyer?
-From what I see in tutorials, people suggest to use Primatte RT. In FCP Color keyer has more control over how it affects highlights and shadows, Hue range.-
Motion has 5 keying options. FCP has about 10. I just like the was Chroma keyer works for my purposes.

  • Clean dissolves with chroma-key?

I've been doing allot of chroma-key work, and I've been wanting to dissolve from one chroma shot into another. What happens is the foreground image goes transparent during the dissolve and shows the background. I've fixed this by exporting each cut which basically turns the composite into a solid file. But it's a HUGE pain. I have to make sure I have handles for the dissolve, and on a large timeline it's very cumbersome. Is there some kind of command within FCP that will allow me to sandwich the composite without having to export?

I agree it's a pain, but if you think about it, that's the way it has to work. You could run into the same issue in the old linear machine cutting days. In the middle of the disolve, when the forground in semi transparent... you're gonna see through it to the BG.
It really should be a basic command to instantly sandwich (render? don't they have a word for this sort of thing like in photoshop? raster-somthing?) a composite image, without having to export.
Problem is it would still take time to render and you still have the issue of handles. The answer of course is hindsite. Now that you know about it, do the exports as you build the edit.
And remember that you don't have to export the entire clip, just blade both tracks a few seconds after the dissolve point, pull both tracks up a set of tracks, trim them to allow for handles, export, bring it back in and line up to the cut point.
Sounds like alot but if you keep the clips short the will export quick.

  • Multicam editing: Can't get blade to show in angle viewer when trying to edit in Timeline

This problem just appeared. I have done lots of multicam editing in FCPX, it works great.
But, today I started on a new video and:
    - I created the first multicam clip, it looks fine.
    - I created a Project and appended the multicam clip into the Project, it looks fine.
    - I see all the Angles in the Angle Viewer, it looks normal.
    - I select the Event Browser and hit play, all angles play. I move the curser over an angle and I see a hand, just as I should. everything fine so far.
    - I click in the Timeline and hit the space bar and the selected angle and audio start to play..........BUT the angles in the angle viewer do NOT play. Not right.
    - With the Timeline still selected, I move the curser over an angle in the angle viewer, and i see the hand, NOT the Blade.
So, FCPX thinks I am still in the Event Browser, even though when I click in the Timeline, the Timeline background color changes to light grey, which says I am in the Timeline. FCPX is not letting me go into the Timeline (even though the background color changes).
I have to be doing something dumb, but I don't see it.
    Any suggestions?

Turns out that was EXACTLY the problem --- I kept looking around and finally discovered the problem was that I was NOT in a project (although I thought I was).
    Nevertheless, thank you for responding.
