Multiple Available Values in Parameter

I have a query like Select * from Table where column in (@Parameter)
@Parameter has two choices.
Choice 1 value is 01 or 05. Choice 2 value is 04 or 06.
If Choice 1 is selected for the parameter, I want the query to result into Select * from Table where column in (01, 05).  This should show results for rows where Column is either 01 or 05.  "Column" is a text data type.
How do I use multiple available values in a parameter?  I found this post
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/a484ceb0-78f8-472e-ae96-d48f85ea25b7/multiple-values-in-available-values-non-query-in-report-parameter-in-ssrs?forum=sqlreportingservices but that is not working for me.  I tried to put 01 and 05 (no double
quotes) on different lines in the parameter available values expression box but I still get no results.  My parameter is a data type of text and is not multi value.
If I change my available value to 01 I get correct results
I'm really stuck.  I hope someone can help me.
Milissa Hartwell

Hi Milissa,
In order to achieve your requirement, I suggest that you should add another parameter named parameter1 in your report. For more details, please see:
Modify the query like below:
Select * from Table where column in (@Parameter1)
Add another parameter named Parameter1 with ‘Allow multiple values’ option in the report.
Select Hidden as the parameter visibility.
Specify the values below in the Available values:
Label: 1
Value: =iif(Parameters!Parameter.Value=1,”01”,”04”)
Label: 2
Value: =iif(Parameters!Parameter.Value=1,”05”,”06”)
Specify the values below as the Default Values:
Value: =iif(Parameters!Parameter.Value=1,”01”,”04”)
          =iif(Parameters!Parameter.Value=1,”05”,”06”)
Then when you select 1 as the choice of Parameter, it will directly affect the result into Select * from Table where column in (01, 05). When you select 2 as the choice of Parameter, it will directly affect the result into Select * from Table where column
in (04, 06).
If there are any other questions, please feel free to ask.

  • Passing multiple integer values as parameter in SSRS

    Hello,
I am trying to pass a comma separated multiple integer value parameter in SSRS report and it errors out complaining that it is not able to convert the nvarchar value to datatype int. But it works fine when I pass a single value. Here is the code I am using
for the report and I am stuck at passing multiple values.
    SELECT
    id,count(*) as cnt
    from table
and ID in (@id) group by id
eg: if I pass 10,20,30 then I would get error however if I pass 10 then it works fine
Is there a different method to pass multiple integer values?
    Thanks for your help.

A comma is, of course, a textual character and not an integer, thus the error you are getting. Multi-value parameters can be used for this.
Select "Allow multiple values"and set data type to Integer. Multi-value parameters deliver the values as an array. The query interface is smart enough to convert them to the proper syntax (comma-delimited) automatically so a statement like:
    WHERE Field IN (@id)
where the parameter has an array of values {1, 2, and 3} is interpreted as:
    WHERE Field IN (1,2,3)
You do not need to manually convert it in a transact SQL query. That is not the case for displaying the value array in your report. If you wish to display the array (described above) in your report as "1, 2, 3", you will need to use a join expression:
    =Join(@id, ", ")
As DJ described, the other part to a multivalue parameter is the Available values. These can be set explicitly but given your example, I think it would be best to create a new dataset that retrieves a distinct list of the IDs that can be retrieved, perhaps
    something like:
    SELECT DISTINCT GroupName, GroupID
    FROM table
    WHERE [criteria]
Set the available values to use this query with GroupName (or whatever user-friendly field you choose for your dataset) as the label and the id as the value. The label field should be something the the target report user can easily identify the correct group
    using.
If you don't want to or can't use a multivalue parameter for some reason then you will need to manipulate your parameter value prior to consuming it in your query. When you add the parameter to the TSql query and save the dataset, SSRS adds it to the Parameters
property of the dataset. Open the dataset properties and select the parameters tab. You should see your parameter in the list. click the expression builder (fx) button next to the value and enter this expression:
    =Split(@id,",")
Note that the second element of the expression is the delimiter. If your text input has comma-space as a delimiter (1, 2, 3 vs 1,2,3) then that element must include ", ". My example just has comma so if you use that with a string "1, 2, 3"then
the resulting array will still have 3 elements but the 2nd and 3rd elements of the array will have a preceding space which will cause your dataset to error with the same error. As long as there are no non-numeric characters in any of the elements, the split6
will create the text array, SSRS will dynamically generate the correct "IN"syntax (comma separated) and SQL will convert the elements from VARCHAR to INT on the fly.

  • Passing multiple character values from parameter form to PL/SQL

    Hi,
I am passing multiple character values from parametr form into
the report query and a PL/SQL procedure. It works fine with the
query, when I use &variable. But, it doesn't compile in PL/SQL,
so I just used the :variable, but not getting any records in the
    PL/SQL procedure. Any suggestions?
    sincerely,

    gj / Fedro,
Only using the &referecne, you can pas a string / multiple character values and this would work for query only.
The bind parameter in PL/SQL wouls support only single value

  • How to pass multiple single values to parameter in planning function?

    Hi!
I can not pass the variables (multiple single Values) from Input Layouts(BexAnalyzer) to Planning Function Types...Anyone have any idea for setting the parameter in the function types. I use the exit class CL_RSPLFC_BPS_EXITS.
My Parameter Type is Elementary and also use variables allowed

If you want to use the class as in a planning function type, proceed as follows:
    1. Create an InfoObject that accepts the name of the function module as a characteristic value. We recommend that you create an InfoObject of type character with length 30 and indicate that this InfoObject is "Without Master Data".
    2. In transaction RSPLF1, create a new function type. Chose the "Reference Data" option and enter the name of the class. This does NOT imply that reference data is read automatically, but results from the requirements for implementing the class.
    3. On the "Parameter" tab page, create two parameters - one for the exit module and one for the init module. The parameters should be "elementary". Chose the InfoObject you created in step two as the dedicated InfoObject. The names of the parameters are determined from the values of constant P_C_NAME_EXIT_PARAM and P_C_NAME_INIT_PARAM.
    4. If you require additional parameters in your function module (called exit parameters), you create these parameters as elementary parameters (with appropriate InfoObjects). Note an additional predefined parameter here - in many function modules, the name of the area is used from which the module is called. The area is not used in BI Integrated Planning but it may be the case that an area was created in BPS which only uses the current InfoCube. For this reason, you can create a parameter with the name specified in constant P_C_NAME_AREA_PARAM by specifying the name of this area to the function module. The value of this parameter is passed on to the function module in the interface as the value of the importing parameter I_AREA. Note that this technology can generally only by used for Basis InfoCubes and simple planning areas (not multi- planning areas or MultiProviders).
You can create additional elementary parameters as long as the names do not correspond to the predefined names. The class automatically recognizes the additional parameters and transfers them to table IT_EXITP in the function modules.
    5. After you have activated the planning function type, you can create planning functions and fill the parameters accordingly.

  • Multiple select parameter with each selected value covering multiple sub values

    Hello, everyone,
In my SSRS report, I need to set a multiple select parameter called Group, with values: group1 group2, etc....
    When group1 is selected, it needs to apply to data of certain sub groups: sub-group1, sub-group2;
    When group2 is selected, it needs to apply to data of different sub groups: sub-group3, sub-group4 and sub-group5;
when both group1 and group2 are selected, then, it needs to apply to data of sub-group1 to sub-group5.
I know how to do it when only one group is selected: simply use a case statement in the query to select the right sub groups based on the group selected.
But I don't know a good way to do it when multiple groups are selected.
Any help, pointers are much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
    Regards

    Hi QQFA,
If I understand correctly, there are two parameters (Group and Sub_group) in the report. When we select group1 in Group parameter, it will auto select sub-group1, sub-group2 in the Sub_group parameter; when we select group2 in Group parameter, it will auto
select sub-group3, sub-group4 and sub_group5 in the Sub_group parameter; when we select both all, it will auto select all sub_group values. If I have misunderstood, please don't hesitate to let me know.
In this scenario, we can create a temporary table with Group and Sub_group columns, then select Sub_group column values based on the Group field. For more details, please see:
Create a dataset with the query below:
    CREATE TABLE #temp([group] nvarchar(50),sub_group nvarchar(50))
    INSERT INTO #temp VALUES     ('group1','sub-group1'),('group1','sub-group2'),('group2','sub-group3'),('group2','sub-group4'),('group2','sub-group5')
    SELECT * FROM  #temp
    where [group]  in (@Group)
Set available values and default values of Sub_group parameter with get values from the sub_group field in the new dataset.
Note that the two parameters are all multiple parameters.
If there are any misunderstanding, please elaborate the issue for further investigation.

  • Multiple Default Values in a Multi-Select LOV Parameter?

    Hi,
I have a report in BI Publisher standalone version 10.1.3.4. The report has a list of values called org_lov. This lov is attached to a multi-selection p_org_code parameter from which it is desirable to also have multiple default values.
For example, if org_lov has the following values:
    100
    101
    102
    103
    104
    105
    106
I would like to have 3 default values and have 100, 101,105 as the defaults if the user doesn't specifically select anything from the LOV. So far my testing has only allowed a single default value.
    Here are my settings:
    Data type = string
    Multiple Selection = checked
Can select All = checked (all values passed)
On the Default Value field, I have tried the following:
    1. 100, 101,105
    2. [100, 101,105]
    3. '100', '101','105'
    4. (100, 101,105)
    5. ['100', '101','105']
    6. ('100', '101','105')
I don't need these default values highlighted in the LOV, I just need it passed correctly to the query (a data template).
Thank you in advance for any input.

    Hi,
Sorry for the delayed reply. I tried what you suggested but the problem is that by having the "Multiple Selection" property of the parameter unchecked, the result is that it allows the user to only have a single value passed. The user wants the option to select multiple values AND also have the multiple default values.
    Thanks anyway.

  • Ssrs parameter default value not showing ,when available values is binded to query dataset

I have developed a report using sql server data tools for vsiual studio2012 ,i have defined few parameters ,on one of the parameter when available values is binded to a dataset query, the report default value is  not showing in report preview .
    Many Thanks
    Chandra

    Hi Chandra,
According to your description, you have set the default value for a parameter, but it's not displayed when initially running the report. Right?
In this scenario, since you have set the available values bind to query, so your default values should be within these available values. If these default values are not within the available values, the default values will be not displayed. So please check
    the default values.

  • SQL Command code for multiple value string parameter

    Hi,
I'm using crystal 2008 and there is a check box for multiple value  SQL Command  I need some help in writing the SQL Command code  for oracle (or sql server) for a multiple value STRING  parameter.
    Thanks in advance,
    Marilyn

I could be wrong here, but I do not believe you can pass a multiple valued parameter to an SQL Command data source.  How I have gotten around this in the past is to put the "real" report into a subreport.  In the main report, create a formula field (basic syntax):
    formula = join({?parameter}, "|")
Then, use this to pass the selected values to the subreport's parameter (call it {?sr-parm}).  The SQL Command in the subreport can then use that (MS SQL):
    select *
    from table
    where charindex(table.field, '{?sr-parm}') > 0

  • SSRS Cascading Parameter Setting Default Value of Parameter by Expression

    Hi All,
I need some help on an issue I am running into in SQL server 2008 report parameters. I have the following Report Parameters defined:
    1) @PredefinedDateSelection - Boolean (User Selectable True/False, Default Value - 'False')
    2) @StartDate - Text (User input text box)
If @PredefinedDateSelection = TRUE, then I would like to provide a particular default value to the StartDate textbox (i.e. @StartDate Default Value), If @PredefinedDateSelection = FALSE, then I would like to provide a different default value.
I have the following code for the Expression for the Default value of @StartDate: =code.GetStartDate(Parameters!PreDefinedTimeSelection.Value)
where GetStartDate is a very simple VB function defined as :
Public Function GetStartDate(x as boolean ) As String
    Dim a as string
    Dim b as string
a = "Report Uses Predefined Values"
    b = "Please Input Value"
    If (x) then
    Return a
    else
    Return b
    end if
    end function.
Now the default value of @StartDate stays set as "Please Input Value", and does not change when I toggle @PredefinedDateSelection from False to True and vice versa. I was expecting to see the Default value to change between the two messages depending on my selection in the report preview.
Another parameter which is a dropdown and uses a dataset to display two different set of selectable items depending on the value of @PredefinedDateSelection is working just fine. I am not sure if I am missing something or I am doing something wrong.
Instead of using the VB code I also tried : =iif(Parameters!PreDefinedTimeSelection.Value = True,"Report Uses Predefined Values","Please Input Value")
I also tried changing the default value using a dataset with SQL query and the available value set to NONE, so that the user could input. But the Default value does not refresh or change values.
I hope I have explained my question clearly. I would really appreciate any thoughts and comments.
    Thanks,
    Arunesh

Thank you much for your response.
I tried that and it did work. But my requirement is to have a user input the date. The basic idea is if the user decides on a predefined time range like Day Shift Today or Yesterday and so on... then the report would automatically calculate the values based on predefined date time values. On the other hand, if the intent is to run the report for an arbitrary period then the user supplies the date and time limits.
What I am trying to achieve is have the same parameter available for user input , but when the User decides he wants Predefined then the "textbox" populates with date and time as per his choice of predefind range.
I understand that by this the user can still overwrite the date and time on the text box, but the report will run the predefined values as long as he has the @PredefinedDateSelection Set to true.
Is there a way I can impement this?
Once again I thank you and appreciate  your input.

  • Report Builder 3.0 and Report Parameters with Available Values - do a LIKE expression?

I would like to write an expression based on a @Status parameter that includes the labels you see in the diagram.  My problem is that in the field Status - that includes these data results of Issued, Cancelled and Finaled - data entry is not consistent
so I would like to do a like expression for the value - something like this Issued would be "Is*" or Cancelled would be "can*" etc. however I keep getting error statements and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

    Hi KittyCat101,
If I understand correctly, you want to use a parameter to filter Status field that starts with “Is” or “Can” or “Fi”. If in this scenario, we can refer to the following steps to achieve your goal:
Modify the available values for @Status parameter to “Is”, “Can” and “Fi”.
Right-click the tablix or dataset to open the properties dialog box.
Select Filter in the left pane, then add a filter like below to filter Status field:
    Expression: =Fields!Status.Value like (Parameters!Status.Value & "*")  Type: Boolean
    Operator: =
    Value: true
If there are any other questions, please feel free to ask.

  • CR 2008, missing parameter values in parameter list

somehow this thread got posted in the  .NET SDK section, so re-posting here...
When my users run the report, the list of values in the paramter list does not include all the possible values that exist in the view on SQL server.
How can I get ALL the values of the field in the view to show up in parameter list?  What is controlling how many/few values show up?  I have not limited in any way what should be returned from the view (not a cascading set of parameters), and the view is not set up to limit what values are available either.
    Thanks for any pointers.

  • How to map multiple output values to the output schema in biztalk mapper?

    Hi,
In my biztalk mapper, I am using a "database lookup" functoid which is linked to a "Value Extractor" functoid. A source schema field is linked to the database lookup functoid which is linked to a "Value Extractor" functoid
which is linked to the destination schema field. After passing the required parameter values in the database lookup functoid (lookup value, conn string, table, column name), I know that the result set may get multiple rows which are transferred to the "value
    extractor" functoid.
Now what I want is to create a record in destination schema for each row in the result set. My current mapping is as below:
    1) Source record > looping functoid > destination record
    2) Source record field > Database functoid > Value Extractor functoid > dest record field
but this mapping is giving me only the first value in result set.
Please help me in this so that my map creates a destination record for each value in the result set.
e.g. if query [select * from employees where surname='Brown'] returns five records, then I would like five records in the destination schema.
    Thanks
    manibest

    Hi Muhammad Ehsan,
Thank you for the useful suggestion. however, I have only one difficulty in building your suggested solution. in my query  (select
    * from employees where surname='Brown'), the value of surname is coming from the source schema field which could be different in each source schema record field.
lets say that source schema instance has 3 records in it as below:
    <Records>
    <Record><Surname>Brown<Surname></Record>
    <Record><Surname>Atkinson<Surname></Record>
    <Record><Surname>White<Surname></Record>
    </Records>
For each of above records the database query should run with the relevant surname value. if database has 5 records for "Brown", 3 records for "Atkinson" and 1 record for "White" then the destination schema should create (5+3+1) = 9 records in
    total.
To create a destination canonical schema that works fine, I have to somehow pass this surname value from source schema as parameter so that it uses this value to poll the database and get records. Is there a way I can pass this surname value as parameter
to the destination canonical schema? Thank you so much for the help.

  • Where clause as expression value for parameter?

Is it possible to put a where clause in a expression so I could use as a parameter? I have 3 documents I was going to make as available values, but not sure how to put all of this in the expression.
    Where clause:
    where document = 'doc1'
and sentdate = (Select max(sentdate) from Communication where document = 'doc1')

    Hi Lezgettdrunk,
According to your description, you want to specify available values for a report parameter.
In Reporting Services, if we want to specify the available values for a report parameter in Report Parameter Properties, we should get those values from specified values or a dataset. When we select the “Specify values” option, we can give each label corresponding
value. When we select the “Get values from a query” option, we should select a dataset which contains documents values. In your scenario, you could create a dataset with where clause to get document values, then specify parameter available values use this
    dataset.
