Multiple domain point to same IP

Hi all,
I have had a DNS server up and running for awhile which seems to work fine. I now want to point a new domain name to the same DNS server. How I first approached the problem was to set up a new primary zone that resolved to the same reverse zone (which I am not sure is working...when I type host www.example.com it resolves to which ever zone I have it currently pointing to, not all...which makes sense I suppose). Can anyone provide a simple way to allow 2 domain names on one DNS primary zone? Do I need to add to my open directory setup?
Thanks a ton in advance

I think I am getting a bit out of my understanding....
You're going to be learning about DNS and IP, of routing, of security, backups, and other areas.
"On your LAN, your clients and your DHCP server will refer only to your DNS server(s), and then your DNS server(s) are then are the only widgets on your LAN that refer to your upstream DNS servers at your ISP or directly out to other DNS servers. Don't mix references to your local DNS services and to ISP DNS services within your clients, not at least until you're further along. (Mixing internal and external DNS server references didn't work prior to 10.6.3, and I'd stay away from it for now.)"
I am not sure how I am mixing internal and external.
I do not know if you are mixing your internal (LAN) and external (public) DNS references on your clients. Only you know that. You do have public DNS, and you do have private DNS. I am simply telling you not to mix your DNS server references from your clients.
I have a dynamic ip is because comcast will not sell me a static ip in my area (if you can believe that...). Until this is changed I am forced to get a "static ip" from a external source. I then use comcast as my forward ip
You don't have a static IP, and you're not getting a static IP from a Dynamic DNS provider, and you're not getting reverse DNS translations as those arrive only from your ISP, and you're accordingly going to have problems with outbound SMTP traffic; other servers will drop your mail. It doesn't matter why or how. If you don't have this, your SMTP server will be indistinguishable from a spam engine running on an infected client box, and your outbound mail will be gray-listed (best case) or dropped.
(from your link..."Select the forwarding server(s) IP address(es) in your DNS server as your upstream ISP DNS server(s), or you can configure Google DNS as your forwarding servers.")
When you configure a client, you need select DHCP, or a manual address. If you select DHCP, a DHCP server provides a unique IP address from a pool of IP addresses maintained by the DHCP server, the subnet mask, the IP gateway ("next hop") address, and one or more DNS server addresses. If you configure manually, you provide a unique IP address, subnet mask, the gateway, and one or more DNS server addresses.
When you run split-horizon, you have to make sure your clients refer to your DNS server(s). Only. Which means manual configuration on the DHCP server and/or on the clients.
I'd probably delete the whole of the local DNS configuration that you've been describing.
I'd add one A (machine) record for the host.
And I'd add one or more zones and each with CNAMEs pointing to the IP host for the Apache virtual hosts; what Apple calls "Sites". One CNAME for each virtual host. One (forward, primary) zone for each domain or each subdomain.
This DNS configuration would be the same inside your external firewall as outside; one A record in the public DNS, and CNAMEs for the virtual hosts. Like Apache web services, Mail also provides virtual hosting, but your outbound host name must match your MX record for the domain. And your MX record would likely be your A record in your public DNS. Or your mail server will have to relay your outbound SMTP messages through another provider.
And I don't prefer to use a Mac as a firewall. That's more effort, more complexity, more prone to silly configuration mistakes or software bugs, and it just isn't as easy to get it working. Look around the discussion forums for related sequences, and around setting up IP routing. If you have a firewall, you set your firewall as your IP gateway on your LAN, and you're done.

  • Multiple domains pointing to 1 site

    Hi..
If I add multiple domain names to a BC site, just using the "New Domain", does the system handle it in such a way that its not regarded as duplicate content? There is 1 default domain, so how are the rest of the domains treated if added, ie does it use 301 redirects so as to avoid the possibility being penalized by Google?
If this is not the way to do it, can anyone explain how to deal with this, as there is nothing in the knowledge base on how to go about it.....

    Hi Liam,
    Couple of things...
"You have google indexing multiple domains. If those domains contain the same content - Duplicate Content."
    That's clear - thanks.
"You say 301 redirects so I am gathering there are multiple domains to point to one set of content. "
Yes, the client has bought a few different domain names, all which they want pointing to the same website. (Bad practice huh?)

Yes, seems everyone is a self professed SEO expert these days!
Anyway, what is the best/simplest way to deal with this type of thing?

  • Again, cannot start multiple domains at the same time

Because the original question is marked as answered and the problem persists, I need to submit it again:
With the latest plugin, in Glassfish Kepler, when I try to start the second server (same Glassfish, different domain) - it'll simply not start (the console remains empty) and after a while I get the time-out message, that the server could not be started. Even if 2 Eclipses are started, there only one server at a time can be started.
This is a major issue for me, can you please help? Is there a lock file that I can delete or another workaround?

Hi. The weird thing is that after the last update it worked for me, too, for a while - but then it didn't. I think there may be some sort of lock that hasn't been released when a forced shut down happened...?
If I start the servers either outside of eclipse (command line), or using eclipse's external tools (which is pretty much the same, I think), they work just fine. And the status in the servers view gets updated to either started/stopped, correctly.
And also, the case when I create domains/start servers outside of eclipse and then create the server in the servers view, the status update works.
So yes, if there are multiple domains started at the same time outside of eclipse, the plugin shows them, but it cannot start them itself.

  • Multiple domains share the same datasource?

    Hi,
I'm new to weblogic server. I understand that there's a wizard available for us to follow and have the domain created. However, does it means that only one domain can be tagged to the datasource (meaning the database used). Can I recreate or clone this admin server, yet having the same datasource in used. The reason is because I need to have another instance available for quick test and yet do not wish to spend too much time on the domain setup, etc.
    Appreciate any advise on this.
    Cheers

You can just copy your directory and put it on another machine (for example). If you keep it on the
same machine, you have to make sure the ports used by servers are different. Note also you
cannot have domains of the same name on the same machine.
When you installed the environment in production mode you have to disable hostname verification.
As WebLogic per default uses a self-generated certificate, which has the hostname of the machine
in it on which the domain was configured.

  • Problems with multiple Domains open in same web browser?

    Here is the problem.
I login to one domain and then open a new webpage (same browser) and login
to a 2nd domain. I can then navigate in both domains in each web page.
However, when I logout of one, it logs me out of both and which ever one
that I logged out of is the logout/login page that I see for both web pages.
The same thing happens if I try to login to 2 different domains at the same
time. One will override the other and I end up with the same domain open in
    both browsers.
I am pretty sure that this has to do with the cookie, since it is probably
using the same one for both and then getting confused. Does anyone know how
    to fix this?

  • Multiple Domain pointing to sub-domains on my local machine.

Here what I am hoping to do:
I have multiple sub-domains (only some listed below) setup on my local computer that I use to access local testing folders. I would like to also be able to access these domains from outside my network. Also I have an airport extreme which is forwarding http traffic to my Mac. (That works, I have tested it.) So far I have been able to get basic forwarding to my root sites folder to work, but not the sub-domains.
How can I setup my system so that people can use different no-ip.com urls to get to different sub-domains or folders on my Mac?
Below is my virtual hosts in apache, my /etc/host file and a my no-ip.com domain is: ***.serve**.com

You cannot have multiple "<VirtualHost *>" directives. This indicates to apache that the following configuration is the default, and you can't have multiple defaults.

    </VirtualHost>
    <VirtualHost other.site.com:80>

  • Multiple domains pointing to one domain. How best for SEO?

I'm a therapist. I have just created a site eg mytherpaystudio.com  I own several domains (currently as individual websites) ie thistherapy.com, thattherapy.com and anothertherapy.com etc. I think I made a big mistake when I created these websites because they are basically clones of each other, which I have learned through reading Google webmaster info etc may well have created SEO problems ie penalised me. I'm revamping the whole thing because I have a new therapy studio - massage, counselling, movement therpist etc
    Would I be best:
Deleting the whole content and just pointing the domain name to the therapystudio.com site, or
Only leaving content on the websitess which only pertains to the theraspy type ie thistherapy information, othertherapy information and using hyperlinks and text links to the mytherapystudio site?, or
    Anyone have another suggestion altogether
Obviously I want the best possible seo outcome. I've stuck with iweb. I use RAGE iweb seo tool and sitemap automator.
    Thanks in advance for help

I am a therapist as well and from my own experiences, I think you might be better forwarding the other domain names to the new therapy centre website.
I did the same as you at one time, thinking that more sites might be better, but then decided that I would be better cutting down, so I tried a little re-branding of my practice and purchased a new domain name and just have 2 websites that advertise what I am doing - namely Structural Integration/Rolfing and Orthopaedic/Sports Massage and Rossiter System.
I have to say though that when I re-designed the 2 websites, I ditched iWeb and one site I re-built using EverWeb (http://www.everwebapp.com), which is a good alternative to the now unsupported iWeb and for the other site I used Joomla, which is one of the Content Management Systems.
The more sites and domain names you have, you more you have to get found, but I then found that I was losing track of what I did have.  As well as my now 2 websites and domain names I also make use of the free website building facilities by using WordPress.com, where you can set up a free website and publish to the WordPress severs and sometimes Wix - in this respect, the more you have the more you will be found.
    Good luck with it.

  • Multiple WLANs pointing to same WLC interface

I would like to have a guest Web auth based WLAN that points to an Interface that I also have configured for a separate 802.1X authentication that allows access to my private network.  I should note that I already have web auth configured for Guest access that only allows Internet access via separate WALN/VLAN.  This would allow me to setup access for a vendor that is on-site using the Lobby Ambassador .
Is this possible and what do I need to do?   I have created the seperate WLAN with Web auth and pointed it to the same WLC interface that I use for the 802.1X and this does not seem to work.

This has been resolved.  I found I had AP groups setup and had not added the WALN to the correct group.

  • Accessing same Content Management Repository from Multiple Domains

I'm attempting to point many different domains to a single content management repository to avoid the duplication of data.
All the domains are able to read content correctly, but when trying to create content (whether programmatically or through the admin tool), most of the domains will get this error:
    java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00001: unique constraint (SCHEMA_NAME.PK_CM_NODE) violated
Since there's no sequence generated in the database, it appears that the primary key is defined by something in the portal code. This seems to imply that you can't have multiple domains pointing to the same repository. Can someone confirm that they've seen this work? And if you've gotten it to work, what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks for any help,
    Dan Turkenkopf

This particular issue is inherent to the OOTB repository in WLP. The repository uses a sequencer to generate id's for created content. The way these ID's are generated causes the possibility of two applications attempting to create items with the same ID. This is due to the fact that the WLP repository manages the ID's used when creating content and doesn't currently use a GUID strategy for content id's.
You could configure another repository which does ID generation in a different fashion and avoid the persistence problem I've described.
The VCR layer which provides the access to the OOTB repository really only has the cache issue I described. This can be worked around with some custom event listener implementations that can manage stales caches. These would need to be aware of the other applications sharing the underlying content repository.

  • How to confiture virtual hosts with multiple domain names

    hello,
I've read through some of the postings here on virtual hosts, but I thought I'd better solicit advice before I actually try some of the things I've read about.
In a nutshell, I've purchased multiple domain names that I'd like to alias to a new site (currently it is just a subfolder in the main site directory) on my OS 10.3.x server. There is only the one main site configured right now on the box, so I know I need to set up a second "virtual site" pointing to the files in this subfolder to make it function as its own site.
I've dabbled around with the sites settings in the GUI, but I'd probably be most comfortable setting all this up in the httpd.conf by hand if I could. But I'm weary of this because I know it might be better to use the GUI because of OS X Server's flavor of WebObjects and Apache (sigh).
So, I have two main questions:
    1) How would I set up this second site using the GUI in server settings? Do I need to first move the subfolder out of the main folder before it can be designated its own site? Or can I just point to it in the GUI? Can I use one of my purchased domain names in the domain field?
    2) Currently, I have URL Forwarding set with my multiple domain names, but I'm thinking there might be a better way to do this? For SEO I'd rather use some type of redirect rather than being penalized by search engines for having what looks to be multiple domains pointing to the same site.I'm thinking I should create virtual sites for each domain name I've purchased with a hard redirect back to the main site?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    thank you for your reply.
    > You can create each site as a new Site in Server
Admin. When you do this you can choose any
directory on disk as the document root for each
site. This means you can move the sites' folders out of
/Library/WebServer/Documents if you like - you could
    create /Library/WebServer/site1,
/Library/WebServer/site2, etc. (or even be outside of
    /Library/WebServer if you want).
so, are you are saying that I could designate one site to be
    /Library/WebServer/Documents/site1
    and another to be
    /Library/WebServer/Documents/site1/directory1
even though directory1 is contained within site1's structure? I'm not advancing this as a good idea, necessarily. I'm just wondering if Apache would complain.
    > Each site should have the domain name set as per your
registered domains. Apache will need this to
determine the correct site to serve for each
    request.
Well, after some additional research I'm thinking I'm missing a critical piece of the puzzle. That being access to the DNS host server that manages the context of my server. I have purchased domain names through an outside registrar that point to my site and I can create virtual hosts on my server, but I don't have the ability to add the new virtual host names into the DNS server that manages my box. If that makes sense. Or maybe I'm missing something?
    >
I'm not sure why you're using URL forwarding at all.
Without that piece of information it's impossible to
tell you whether you should continue using them or
not - in general there's no need to use URL
forwarding if you have multiple Virtual Hosts setup,
but it sounds like you have multiple hostnames
pointing to the same content, so your needs may be
    different.
I'm using forwarding for the reason I list above. I didn't purchase hosting with the registrar where I purchased my domain names, so they are parked on the registrar's name server with URL forwarding to my server. The DNS server that manages my box resides in a different location and I don't have the ability to add DNS entries pointing to virtual hosts that I want to set up. Am I stuck?

  • Multiple domains via DHCP (option 15)

It seems Mac OS X (I use 10.4.10 but I suspect it affects many versions) is incompatible with receiving multiple domain names in a single string over DHCP Option 15.
If DHCP returns Option 15 with "exampledomain.com eng.exampledomain.com", then any lookup (using dig, ping, Microsoft Entourage, etc.) of a non-fully qualified domain name will fail.
You can see this in the /etc/resolv.conf file, which contains:
    domain exampledomain.com eng.exampledomain.com
    nameserver 10.X.X.1
    nameserver 10.X.X.2
I know that putting multiple domains within the same "domain" option in DHCP is a proprietary hack but some networks still use this. Has anybody run into this and have they found a good resolution to make Mac OS X work with multiple domains?

While a single mailbox can be configured to receive on multiple addresses (called "proxy addresses" or "aliases"), the mailbox is configured with only one primary SMTP address (outbound address).  So if your requirement is to send
as the received address, you would not be able to do that with a single mailbox through normal means.
Some people have developed a workaround to the above limitation by configuring Outlook to use multiple POP3 accounts for a single mailbox.  See this link for additional details:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/hot/archive/2012/04/26/how-to-add-an-alias-to-an-office-365-account-and-how-to-set-up-outlook-to-send-email-messages-as-this-alias.aspx
I would also be sure to look at the client requirements for Exchange Online.  The supported version of Outlook is going to be Outlook 2010 SP2.  Older versions may work but would not be supported.  Outlook 2003 would at best possibly
    connect via POP3.

  • Multiple domain names for iWeb on .mac account

I've managed to get the iWeb site I created uploaded onto a domain name i created (eg www.abc123.com). I had to change the domain name on my .mac account. The thing is it only allows you to enter 1 domain name. Now I have purchased 3 domain names, one for myself, one for my business and one for my mothers business. Is there a way round this because at the moment I can't get round it. Thanks.

    Hi Ben,
If using .Mac hosting and other hostings as well you can have multiple domains pointed to different sites so that each site will have yourdomain.com. However on .Mac you can have only one CNAME, the other personal domains should be WebForward or WebForward with cloaking.
    - WebForward: after you typed yourdomain.com in the browser you get forwarded to web.mac.com/username/ and web.mac.com/username/ will display in the browser
    - WebForward with Cloaking (also called masking): after you typed yourdomain.com in the browser yourdomain.com will display in the browser and don't change while people browse through your website
    - CNAME yourdomain.com will display instead of web.mac.com/username/ and while browsing through your website it will look like yourdomain.com/sitename/nameofpagepeoplelookatnow.html
If you're using Godaddy this is how to setup WebForwarding

  • Multiple domains and multiple IPs in the same MacMini Server

I am sure that this topic has been faced already but I cannot find enough information to really dig into a solution.
I have a macmini server with two IPs let say x.x.x.12 and x.x.x.13 .
The server is set up on the first IP. It has his primary zone, machine record, mail aslias and www alias.
Lets call the server domain server.domain1.com
Everything works fine I have a couple of local users and a couple of LDAP users. Just to test the machine setup.
I can send and receive emails using any of the users as [email protected]
Now I would like to have another domain, domain2.com in the same server .
The final goal is to have users under different domains. They have their own email box, calendar, etc.
It will be preferable that I can share the same username with different domains. But I can live without that option.
My first test was to have the second domain called server.domain2.com using the second IP. x.x.x.13 .
For that I created another Primary Zone with domain2.com as machine record of x.x.x.13 . To use the second IP I simply create another Ethernet interface on the macmini.
In the Mail -> Advance settings I added the host aliases as well as virtual hosting domains for domains2.com.
With this setting I can send emails as [email protected] or [email protected] but when I replay to their messages I get a "Relay access denied" error from server.domain1.com .
I also tryed another domain pointing to x.x.x.12, the same as server.domain1.com . I did not create any extra Primary Zone but the local host aliases and the virtual hosting domains.
Same issue. I can send but I get a "Relay access " error.
As you might notice I am a novice on servers settings. I just try to recreate a similar environment common to Virtual Hosting providers for my own website playground but I cannot cut through this email configuration obstacle.
Any significant meaning that can be leading me to learn how to do it will be very very appreciated . (beside lynda, com tutorials that I followed already but do not mention multiple domains for mails).
    Thanks

the problem I try to solve is to manage multiple domains in one MacMini Server.
    Having two IPs is secondary.
I would like that each domains has his own users with emails, iCals, Wiki and web sites.
The main problem is having emails to work for any additional domain beside the default one on the machine IP.
I also got an additional IP address to be used on the same server hoping that it make things easier but apparently is making things more difficult.

  • Is it possible to have multiple SOA Server within same domain ?

    Hi All
I need to know whether I can install and setup multiple soa_servers inside the same domain so that they can be managed by single weblogic instance.
    The use case scenario :
We have a single DEV environment instance that has several environments configured with it like PR1, PR2, TR, PY, PC.
The way we have achieved it is by creating partitions under soa_infra and deploying the code as we move up the ladder in testing phases before we move to separate QA and Prod.
Because of the way Dev is being setup, we are not able to use/test Oracle B2B properly because there is no way to have environment specific distinction be created in Oracle B2B.
In essence, at any point in time testing can happen only in one environment for out Dev box because it makes call to Oracle B2B (Trading Partners) and there is no way for us to distinguish whether the call is coming from PR1 or PR2 or PC or TR or PY.
We have no issue testing it as long as it is not restricted to B2B but with B2B we are restricted because a single soa instance has a single B2b instance. ( We can not have partition wise instances of B2B)
    Requirement :
Is it possible to install and configure different soa_server for.e.g
    soa_server1 : PR1
    soa_server2 : PR2
    soa_server3 : PY
    soa_server4 : PC
    soa_server5 : TR
inside the same domain (dev_domain) so that they can be managed from single weblogic instance through Admin console and we can have different B2B instances for each soa_server.
This way we will be able to differentiate between environments on the basis of ports with the same IP address.
Please let me know if there is a possibility of achieving the same.
Thank you so much in advance.
    Regards
    ACM

    Thanks Sharmela for your directions.
Let me try to clone the soa server and see if it helps.
Before I move forward, I would like to verify one thing from you.
As you have mentioned the word "cluster" , I am not exactly trying to achieve the clustered setup "conventional way of load balancing and high availability" but instead I want to have these cloned soa servers( soa_server1 : 8001,soa_server2 : 8002,soa_server3 : 8003,soa_server4 : 8004,soa_server5:8005 )to have separate partitions ( PR1, PR2, PY, TR,PC) respectively.
I hope I don't have to configure OHS to access these nodes since I want these nodes be available as a separate instance rather than redirecting load in case of any other becoming unresponsive ( OHS configuration)
I am not sure whether I am making sense but all I need to do is point the PR1 instance having it's own port number(8001) to the PR1 instance of ERP.
I think it is doable but just wanted to double check with you.
    Please let me know
    Thank you

  • How to make multiple portals work in same domain (wlp 9.2)? IMPORTANT !!!

We have domain where one portal application is in production now and other portal application have to deploy in the same domain.
The first one is using global scoped DataSources and the new one is using application scoped because they have to use own schemas in the database.
Also Group and User/role management have to work application scoped, meaning that in one's portal admin console shows only users/groups/roles to that portal.
How do I do this and what is the optional/best practises to do this kind of configuration, configure and deploy multiple portals in the same domain ?
I get so far that I make new SQLAuthenticator and XCAMLRoleMapper to the new portal but when the LDAP and database goes out of sync and I delete P13N -tables and LDAP, server start creates only to the first portal database the needed rows and delegated admin management doesn't work in the new one at all.
I have read all bea's documents related to JDBC - application scoping, deploying, security P13N and I can't get enough information from it to make this work.
    Thanks !

You may want to ask in the weblogic.developer.interest.portal forum.
I don't believe that group and user/role management can be application
    scoped.
