Multiple Editor Tabs in SQL Developer
I am on the current release of SQL Developer (1.5.4, build 5940). Every time I log into a database instance (doesn't seem to matter which instance), I get multiple code editor tabs. For example, if I log into an instance called 'ABC System', I'll get a tab labeled 'ABC System' and a 2nd tab labeled 'ABC System-1'.
It is not a serious problem, as I can delete one of the tabs and continue my work, but it is a bit of an annoyance. Has anyone else encountered this problem and know of a fix? Thank you very much.

Hi,
Once you have more than one tab open (frozen/pinned) in a connection's object viewer pane, just right-click on the tab and select "New Editor Tab Group". That tab is then placed in its own pane side-by-side with the original pane.

How to show Primary_key in Column Tab - Oracle SQL Developer 2.1.1.64
How to show Primary_key in Column Tab or It bug? i can not see. thank you for answer.
This was removed for performance reasons, but a lot of us asked for it to go back in.
Don't know if it is currently planned, so better request this at the SQL Developer Exchange, so other users can vote and add weight for possible sooner implementation.

Multiple date formats using sql developer
Hello!
i have 2 date fields in a table.. one is populated using trunc(<date1>) and the other is to_date(<date2>,'YYYYMMDD HH24MISS'). We want <date1> to display as MM/DD/YYYY and <date2> to display as MM/DD/YYYY HH:MI:SS AMPM. When we set the date format under Preference -> Database -> NLS parameter in SQL Developer with a time format it adds 12:00:00 to <date1>, if we take it out, it drops the time in <date2>. What can we do?
thanks!I think what the original poster wanted was to display the two date columns using different formats in the table "Data" tab and AFAIK that is not possible. Setting a date format in the Preferences accomplishes the same thing as the statement
ALTER SESSION SET NLS_DATE_FORMAT='<some format>';
in command-line SQL*Plus. To do what the OP wants they'll need to create a view that has a SELECT something like this:
SELECT TO_CHAR( date1, 'YYYY-MM-DD' ) date1
, TO_CHAR( date2, 'YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS') date2
FROM some_table;
One thing the OP needs to keep in mind is that the DATE datatype stores both date and time together. If they insert a date alone, the time defaults to midnight. (This is stated in the Oracle SQL Reference.)

SQL Developer connection to TimesTen
Hi,
I am new to SQL Developer and TimesTen DB.
I am trying to connect to a TimesTen DB running on a Solaris x86 box using a SQL Developer running on a WinXP PC. Is this possible?
The TimesTen Release I am using is 7.0.5.0.0. The SQL Developer version I am using is 1.5.4
After installing the TimesTen Client libraries on the WinXP, I was able to get the TimesTen tab in SQL Developer.
On the server I can connect using "ttIsql" as follows:
./ttIsql -connStr dsn=cas
I am not sure what I need to enter into "New/Select Database Connection" pop-up menu. I entered a "Connection Name". I set the "DSN" to "User Specified" and the "Connection string" to "dsn=cas" but I cannot get the connection setup.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
PaulHi Paul,
In order to connect to a remote TimesTen database, you need to first create a client DSN. The client DSN should map to the DSN "cas" on your Solaris server. To create a client DSN on Windows, follow the step by step instructions listed in the section "Creating and configuring Client DSNs on Windows" of the [TimesTen In-Memory Database Operations Guide|http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/timesten_doc.html]. Use ttIsql on Windows to verify that your client DSN is working, and can connect to your TimesTen database. In SQL Developer, you just need to select the same client DSN in the DSN drop down list.

HOW TO OPEN MULTIPLE TABLES IN SQL DEVELOPER SIMULTANEOUSLY
hello i m new to sqldeveloper so plz dnt laugh if m asking silly question
HOW TO OPEN MULTIPLE TABLES IN SQL DEVELOPER SIMULTANEOUSLYUse the 'pin' on your table editor
http://www.thatjeffsmith.com/archive/2011/11/sql-developer-quick-tip-pin-query-result-sets-and-plans/
Then open your 2nd table. If you want to see both at the same time, right-click on the table editor tab and select 'New Editor Tab Group'

Set indention / tab size in Oracle SQL Developer
I've been poking around for an hour. Can't figure this out.
Where, either on the app's UI or in the "product-preferences.xml" file, can I change SQL Developer's indention (tab) size to 3? My organization uses PowerBuilder, and when I copy+paste our PB SQL (which uses leading tabs) into Oracle SQL Developer, it looks like crap. It would really help if I could change the code editor to a tab size equivalent to three spaces.
And no, we can’t use spaces. :-)
Thanks!
(maybe SQL Developer 2 could have a tab size field in “Preferences”)In 1.5.x, it's under Preferences - Database - SQL Formatter - Alignment and Indentation .
However, at least in the current 1.5.3, a bug ignores the tab preferences completely, so you're stuck with the 2 spaces. If you can't wait until this gets fixed (with luck in the upcoming 1.5.4 or else maybe by 2.0), revert to an earlier version.

SQL Developer 3.1 Bug: Tabs get closed!!!
Hi!
There is a bug in SQL Developer 3.1 which closes previously opened object editors when the number of opened editors increases over a certain amount.
e.g.:
Open PL/SQL package editors by clicking on them.
After a certain amount of opened packages, the first openend packages begin to disapear.
When theses packages were edited, you are asked if you want to save, ignore or cancel the operation.
Best regards,
Matthias SchulzHi Matt,
This is not a bug. The behavior is controlled through preferences:
1. PL/SQL Editor: Tools|Preferences|Code Editor|Auto Pin (checkbox) + Max Open (input field) PL/SQL Editors.
2. ObjectViewer: Tools|Preferences|Database|ObjectViewer|Automatically Freeze Object Viewer Windows (checkbox).
3. Worksheet: Tools|Preferences|Database|Worksheet|Close all worksheets on disconnect (checkbox). Otherwise these inherently remain open.
So we have a minor terminology issue with regard to "Pin" versus "Freeze". Also, another issue with tab width shrinkage as tab number increases:
Please change the way window tabs are handled

SQL Developer editor readability
I have just switched to SQL Developer from Toad and I have found a couple problems with the editor that make it unreadable.
The first issue is that the fonts appear blockier and heavier. On both Toad and SQL Developer I'm using Consolas with size 12. I've tried turning the "enable text anti-aliasing" on and off and they are both bad. Could the issue be that SQL Developer is not using Window's clear type fonts? If so can this be fixed?
The second issue is that the color of the whitespace characters (spaces and line-breaks) in SQL Developer are way too dark. I am unable to find a setting to lighten them up. Am I missing the setting, or can this capability be added? In "Tools -> Preferences -> Code Editor -> Display" there is an option called "Show Whitespace Characters". Turning this on allows you to see whitespace characters in the editor. For example, spaces are shown as middle dots (i.e. ··········), tabs are shown as "»", and line breaks are shown as "«¶".
The problem is that they are way too dark. They need to be a very faint, subtle gray. I do not see any way to change the color. -
SQL Developer 2.1 editor settings
In SQL Developer 2.1, when I single click on a pl/sql object in the navigation pane, a writable editor tab opens. How can I change this behavior so that it opens as read-only? I only want the pl/sql editor to be writable if explicitly selected. I could not find anything in the preferences for this.
Thanks, JohnYou can always make a suggestion on the SQL Developer Exchange, and/or vote on some of the existing read-only connection requests to add more weight for possible future implementation.

How to make a file to be opened in PL-SQL Editor of SQL Developer
How to open a package file (.pkg) in sql Developer's PL-SQL Editor?
Tried creating a new file type with Extension as .pkg and file type as PlSqlNode.
Could open the file and found some of the features of plsql editor, such as find, compile... but could not differentiate the font colors.
How should we go about in having the file opened with different font colors (for identifier, builtin....?
Thanks.
K.Nataraja Suthan,I guess you're running into another known bug in this file-based battlefield.
Opening files won't colour the code until having opened some code from the DB first. Can you try that?
On a sidenote, I've had really bad experiences with external files (both compiling to DB and saving to file incorrectly, not showing errors, etc.). In the end the only safe thing to do is work directly on the DB, saving your progress now and then to file.

Unable to display results of multiple query in grid in Oracle SQL Developer
Hi, I am a newbie to this forum and couldn't find the Oracle SQL Developer forum so posting it here.
My question: How to display multiple query results in grid in Oracle SQL Developer.
Example:
select * from Employee;
select * from Department;
- when I select both the queries and hit F5 in Oracle sql developer. By default it displays in output window.
- How to display result of both the queries in Grid.
Any thoughts on this would be really helpful.
Thanks in advance.
HarshHi Harsh,
I'd say that the Results grid is designed to only show the results of 1 query at a time. I don't know/can't see how it would display multiple queries at a time.
I would suggest either joining your tables to create a single query or opening another SQL Worksheet for one of the queries so that you can display the results side-by-side.
Maybe you could explain what you're trying to do. Why are you trying to display multiple results in the same query grid? -
Hi, I upgraded SQL developer yesterday to the latest version. Now I don't see anything any more in the datagrid, columns, constraints, etc ...
Connection is OK, in the explorer (to the left) I see tables and columns, in the datagrid (table properties) I don't see anything.
Here is the contents of the about box
Many thanks
