Multiple fill blank objects on one question slide?
Hellou CP users, is it possible to put multiple fill blank objects on one question slide? And if, how can I manage them for quiz reporting and correct results?
Yarik
I think indeed that you want a score for each fill-in-the-blank object, and that is not possible with the default FIB question slides. Only MCQ has partial scoring.
With TEB's and advanced actions that is possible. Also with the TextArea widget, as I explained in this blog post:
http://blog.lilybiri.com/widgets-and-custom-questions-part-2
http://blog.lilybiri.com/extended-textarea-widget-more-functionality
TEB's have the advantage that as interactive objects, you can attach a score to them which is not the case for the TextArea widgets. But I would recommend getting Jim Leichliter's enhanced version of the TEB's as well, so that you can control what is shown in the TEB if you want to create a question with multiple attempts. I have described a use case recently in these forums but cannot remember exactly which thread. Jim's widget is free:

How to create multiple TYPES of objects from one menu?
Q: How can I create a single class to create objects of multiple 'object classes' in a way that is not a huge switch statement?
Explaination:
Let's say that I have an application that I am building, that manages five hundred object types. A properly-built object subclassing tree is created, and I want to be able to create objects of any 'leaf node' of this subclassing tree using a single 'objectCreate()' method in a 'factory object'. The purpos of this method will be to create an instance of the correct object, pass a handle to a few collections for properly sorting and storing these objects in groups.
Usually, one could create a switch in this function, testing for the type of object that the user wants to create from the menu. But in the case of having hundreds of possible object choices, this becomes harder and harder code to maintain (let alone performance).
Any suggestions? But if my menu has:
1. German Shepard
2. Doberman Pinscher
3. Malamut
4. Persian Long-hair
5. Siamese
6. Tabby
And my object class tree goes:
[ Animal ]
[ Cat ] [ Dog ]
[ various breeds ] [ various breeds ]How do I code the menu class to respond to the input, so that it runs the correct [breed] object's constructor?
The line:
Animal choice = new xxxxxxxx();
I can't use a variable to replace 'xxxxxxxx' in run-time, but having a ton of choices in code sounds/looks unreasonable.
if (choice == "Doberman Pinscher")
Animal choice = new doberman();
else if (choice == "Tabby")
Animal choice = new tabby();
Do you see what I am trying to avoid? I am not experienced enough to instantly realize how to avoid the latter, and instead, do a single instantiation command for the correct constructor. -
Blank boxes when I insert question slides.
I posted this yesterday and no one replied... Hopefully
someone can give me some advice. Thanks!!
I am trying to create a new project in CP3 and once I publish
the project, there are 2 blank boxes on each slide and the movie
stops on the second slide. These projects consist of 8 PPT slides,
7 image slides, and 5 questions slides... and this project is
narrated. I have tried creating the project again hoping the blank
boxes would go away and that didn't work. So I published this
module one slide at a time to try and determine the root of the
problem. I can publish all 15 slides of images and PPT as a SWF
file with no problem. But once I insert question slides, that's
when the blank boxes appear and the module stops on slide 2. I
think this is odd considering my question slides are the last 5
slides of the module but the blank boxes start on slide one. When
previewing each slide, each 5 slides, or the entire project, there
are no problems. It's just once I publish the project. I've tried
publishing to SWF file and a stand alone disc.. same problem. I
also tried bringing up a module I had done before on CP1 and
converted the files, made no changes to the project and just
published it with CP3 as SWF file. I got the blank boxes and the
project stopped at the second slide. The question slides I have are
simple T/F or multiple choice slides and I don't have them set up
to record results.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I've published about 25 of
these modules in CP1 and never had this problem in the past. I
would be happy to send someone an example of what I'm talking
about.
Thanks!

TALX CorpThanks for responding. No, I don't have any interaction on
the project. I even tried to create a new project and inserted 2
PPT slides (with text only) and then one question slide... I just
made up a simple T/F question just to have a question slide in that
project and once I published it, it happened again. If I deleted
that question slide and published, the blank boxes were gone and it
didn't freeze up.
I was on the phone all morning with Adobe support and they
suggest I reinstall the software. All software disks for my company
are located at home office so once I receive the software tomorrow,
I'll try it again. If that doesn't work, I'll certainly appreciate
any help.
Thanks! -
In Captivate 7, can you have more than one question on a question slide?
Ultimately, I would like to have one question slide. On this question slide, I would like to have three separate Fill-in-the-Blank questions. The Fill-in-the-Blank questions would have drop-down lists of the answers. It would look something like this:
1. Location: (Fill-in-the-Blank with Drop-down list)
2. Religion: (Fill-in-the-Blank with Drop-down list)
3. Ethnicity: (Fill-in-the-Blank with Drop-down list)
Captivate appears to limit a question slide to one question. I have a feeling I will have to do some Flash animations to make this work and abandon the question slide altogether. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
- Nick ImholteYou can have more than one blank word in a FIB question. But probably your
problem is that the question will only be considered correct, and score
given if all the words are correct. I recently explained a workaround at
Devlearn, using scored TEB's. -
OLM - Merging Multiple Learning Objects into One
Does anyone have experience or success merging multiple OLM learning objects into one? I think that we are supposed to be able to do this by exporting a content folder that contains all the learning objects that we want to merge into one CBT. The export works for me, and the learning object plays, but the content is not complete or combined. I noticed that the new content contains files called metadata(0).xml and metadata(1).xml representing the two learning objects that I tried to merge into one. I wonder if there's something I'm supposed to do with these files. Has anyone been successful in merging content?
Content can be combined into a course structure like:
Course Learning Object
-- Topic 1 learning object
-- Topic 2 learning object
By creating a parent "course" learning object and moving the individual objects underneath it. The offering is then tied to that course learning object, so that when a user enrolls, in order to complete it the user navigates through both objects.
You cannot combine all the pages from separate objects into a single learning object as the pages themselves have no knowledge of each other.
Does that make sense?

Placeholder for question slide objects
Hi,
I see that in a project template, you can add a placeholder for a question slide.
What about the objects on a question slide?
Example:
I use the design template to define the "look-and-feel" of the correct/incorrect messages on the question sldies, also the buttons, question font size etc.
But in the design template, you can't define the position.
Can you do this using placeholders in a project template?
Thanks,
JoanHi there
The Question Slide placeholder simply indicates a Question Slide should appear in that spot. If you want to format the placement of objects and whatnot, you *CAN* insert an actual Question Slide in the template and arrange as desired. Then when a project is created that uses the template the question slide will be present with objects arranged as you want.

Inserting Buttons on Question Slides
Hi all,
I am on CP5 Mac. In my module, I immediately thrust the learner into a scenario. If they can do it, fine; if not, I want help to be available. My plan was to have image buttons on the slide where they could see a worked example or look at a job aid. I just tried inserting a button on the question slide so I could navigate to another screen to provide the help and now I'm seeing that CP5 won't allow me to add a button (or other standard objects) to a question slide. I've also tried copying and pasting a button from another slide and that doesn't work either.
How can I insert these additional navigation buttons on a question slide? I have made the quiz optional in Preferences.
Thanks,
KevinHi Kevin,
If you can spare the time please submit this as a feature request. We really need to get this kind of quizzing functionality add to the next version of Adobe Captivate using the link I have included below.
Adobe Feature Request/Bug Report Form.
Whilst I am sure that Lilybiri solution using Advanced Actions is probably the best way forward since you need to report to an LMS. I thought I would point out that if you are comfortable working in Adobe Flash Professional & ActionScript along with Adobe Captivate variables, and you don't need to report the button interaction to an LMS, then you could create this button in Flash and insert this as an animation (Insert > Animation). Just bear in mind that with Adobe Captivate 5 you would need to using AS3 since Adobe Captivate 5 does not support AS2. Before Widgets were part of the Adobe Captivate feature set, this was one of the ways we used to add extra functionality to Captivate projects.
The use case is not that complicated, so let me write it out.
There is a quiz with, let's say, three questions. As user enters the module, they are allowed to see a worked example or jump into the quiz immediately to see if they already know enough to pass it. Most won't be able to pass the quiz right away though; that's why a training was created. To provide just-in-time support, there is an additional button on the each quiz question screen labeled "See a Worked Example." This idea of using worked examples as part of our training is strongly supported as a teaching tool by Clark and Mayer in e-Learning and the Science of Instruction (great book BTW). Anyway, this additional button appears on each of the quiz question screens. When clicked, the user jumps out of the quiz into the worked example. After they see the example, ideally, there is a button in the worked example labeled "Return to Quiz." This button jumps back to the quiz, preferably where they left off. Ideally, if the user chose to see the worked example before trying the quiz, the "Return to Quiz" button wouldn't display (i.e., it has to know that it's being accessed as a result of a jump from the quiz before it displays).
This approach allows the user to jump in and out of quizzes and would work well in a scenario-based training, which is what I am building.
Best regards,

Placeholders on questions slides in Master Slide view or/and copying placeholders
Hi,
I have been building soem changes into our template and I noticed that you cannot add Placeholder objects on the Question slides, but also, when puting placeholders on other master slides, you canot copy and paste them from master slide to master slide...?
Do others find this and is it a bug or by design?
Cheers
RosscoHi Rossco
Captivate offers some system variables that you can use. For example, if you click File > Project Info, you get the screen below:
In that case, I typed Goof Ball into the Project Name field.
This means that what I typed into that field is now available to me in that system variable. So if I add a Caption I can insert the variable as shown:
And during playback, I see this:

Question slide not advancing on click to continue
I have only one question slide out of 6 and it is a
true/false question. When answered the user clicks submit and the
correct success caption appears and it indicates click anywhere to
continue. The slide doesn't continue when you click on the slide.
When you click the success caption disappears but then you have to
click submit again, the success caption appears, you click anywere
and then the slide continues. I have this slide set the same way as
other true/false slides but it does not function the same way. Why
is it doing this?
Heidi at AWCorpHi,
Please try it by changing the 'on correct answer' setting to 'jump to next slide'.

Hi,
I am building a program where the participant listens to a
conversation and then has to answer questions about what he/she
heard. I would like to add a button to the question slide called
"hear it again" where they would click on it (or rollover) to hear
the audio track again. In a regular slide I would add a Button but
that option is blanked out on the question slide. Anything else
such as a caption, automatically plays the sound track.
Help! Anyone have any ideas about this?
Thanx in advance!
GaryHi again
No, you aren't doing anything wrong. That's the way rollover
Images and Captions work. They don't display until your user mouses
over the rollover area. You asked for something that could be
clicked or rolled over to hear the audio track. Since clickable
items are a no no in Question slides, the rollover is your best
bet.
Note that you don't need any Image or Caption to actually
appear if you don't want that. Just use an image that's a solid
color and set it as transparent. Or, for a caption, set the caption
as transparent with no actual text. The key is assigning the audio
to the Image or Caption itself and not the rollover area.

Question slide- Launch a full screen image in new window.
Hi,
I am using Captivate 4.
In the question slide (MCQ/ Matching) I want to have a transparent button over a thumbnail image.
On clicking this button, it lanches a full screen image in a new window.
The student views the image and answers MCQ, Matching (droplist) on the main screen/slide of captivate.
This new window can then be closed by clicking 'X' on top right corner of the window.
How to do this?
Thanks and regards
RajanHi there
Instead of a Transparent Button you should think instead about Click Boxes. But either way, Captivate doesn't allow Buttons or Click Boxes to be inserted on Question Slides.
However, Captivate does allow you to insert Flash objects on Question slides. So you could develop a Flash object that would carry out the desired actions when clicked. Then insert the object on the Question slide.

Can I have multiple text entry boxes on one slide?
Can I have multiple text entry boxes on one slide, each with it's own possible answer without having to have a separte submit button for each?
Message was edited by: Suzanne PettyI'm using Captivate 5 - I'm thinking I would like to put two or three text entry boxes on one slide - say labeled Name, Email and Company I'd like to have any answer be accepted, yet I still want to have the answers included with the quiz reporting for our main quiz which I set up using a question pool.
I understand I can uncheck the validate user input box in the general menu in the property inspector, but that also makes the reporting menu inactive for the text entry box.
Is there a way to make validate user input accept any answer that is typed in the box, but still have the answers reported with my quiz?
Thanks

Can I put multiple object placeholder in Master slide?
I would like to know if I can creat multiple object placeholder in Master slide or not. After searching the disccusion, seems that this problem occur since Keynote 03 and is not improved till Keynote 09 now. In fact, I would like to make a slide show of multiple photos, but I would like to arrange several photos in one slide and exactly the same position and size in each slide. So, it would be easiler if I can make a master slide with mulitple object placeholders. Can anyone help or if there is any alternative ways? Thank you.
Apple Maps is not a GIS application. It might be one day. For now, you will have to use ArcGIS or something similar.

Action multiple OM objects in one Form
Hi Experts,
The OM Processes & Forms include a number of standard forms in system such as:
- Create Position
- Change Position Attributes
- Create Org Unit
- change Org Unit
These forms work on one base object and they process the form.
We have 2 requirements:
1) Manager should be able to Process the request for multiple objects in one form. For example, if I want to delete 10 Positions though one form. The standard form selects only one position and processes the form.
I would like to know that can we develop a custom form which can select multiple objects (positions) and action them through one form only.
2) The OM Forms include the maintainence infotypes like Account Assignments IT 1008, Employee Grp/subgrp IT 1013, Work schedule IT 1011.
I would like to know if we need to add the field of new OM infotype for example Authorities and Resources IT 1010, Department and staff IT 1003, Planned Compensation 1005 in a form then
- is it possible, if yes then what is the process
- what will be the man days effort to add fields from one OM infotype.
thanks
ManuHi Heather,
in methode set_table_for_first_display you can use the parameter is_variant of type DISVARIANT. Use the field HANDLE in this structure to distinguish the two ALV Objects. Fill also field REPORT of the same structure with sy-repid.

Multiple hot spot in a question slides
Hai,
Please let me know is it possible for multiple hotspot in
Question Slide in captivate 3 ?. I want to give a spot in more than
one location on an image in a question slide. Is it possible in
Capitivate 3
With thanks
PolHi Pol
Certainly Captivate 3 offers a question type of "Hotspot".
and yes, multiple Hotspots may be designated as the correct answer.
However, keep in mind that if you designate more than a single
hotspot as the answer, ALL the hotspots designated as the answer
must be present in order for it to score correctly. There is no
provision for indicating one spot OR the other will count as
correct.
