Multiple Hierarchies in one query - selection order

Hallo experts,
can you maybe help with the following issue:
We have a query which uses two Company structure hierarchies (Hierarchy 1 & Hierarchy 2).
In the variable selection of the query, the system gives us only the Hierarchy 2 for selection.
Is there a possibility to controll what the system gives for selection? Namely that the system shows the Hierarchy 1 for selection in variable selection?

Hi,
If u are on BI7 u can use restrict the hierarchy with 'hierarchy 1' in 'default values' section.
Else u can write CMOD exit with i_step=1 and set the value to 'hierarchy 1' there

The underlying logical table is based on several logical table sources (LTS) - one for each hierarchy as shown in the first example(Hierarchy1, Hierarchy2).Every LTS has a fragmentation definition filtering on values on 'hierarchy-level'.
Columns in the logical table (and of course in the underlying LTS) are:
Column               mapped to hierarchy-level
- Hierarchy          Hierarchy
- Hierarchy_id          Hierarchy
- Group          Group
- Group-id          Group
- Age               Age
Advantages:
A answers / dashboard user can select one or more hierarchies by using a dashboard prompt.
Adding a new hierarchy (a new grouping) doesn't need changes in the dimension itself
Disadvantages:
A new grouping needs manual steps to implement
- a new physical table
- a new LTS attached to the logical table (including the fragmentation content)

Select or deselect multiple rows with one single selection event

Does anyone know how to create a JTable which can select or deselect multiple rows with one single selection event in JTable. Fore example, if the table has

row2
row3
row4
row5
row6
What I need is when user select row1 or row2, both row1 and row2 should be set to be selected. Then if user press CTRL and click one of row3 or row4, both of them should be selected including the previouse selected row1 and row2.
For deselection, if row1 and row2 are selected, when users deselect one of row1 or row2, both of them should be deselected.
Hopefully someone can give me a hint.

Here is a partial solution using a JList. Only one line gets highlighted when the user makes a selection in the list. But, two lines are returned. There is a blank line between every two lines.

Query selected levels of multiple hierarchies of one dimension

Hi to all.
I have created through AWM 11 a customer dimension with two hierarchies as follows.
SLM_HIER: All Customers -> Salesman -> Customer
GEO_HIER: All Customers -> State -> City -> Customer
I have also created a SALES_CUBE (measures: QUANTITY, VALUE, aggregation: SUM) that is dimensioned with Customer dim.
I'm using OBIEE to query the OLAP engine (through the relational views that AWM created automatically). I have followed the OTN OBE tutorials.
I would like to have the following query on the cube:
Give me QUANTITY where SALESMAN=S1 and CITY in ('Athens','Rome').
Is it possible to have such a query? As far as I understand there are no ready aggregated data for selected levels of both hierarchies.

I think OBIEE would also give you your answer from OLAP.
This query has filters defined from both the hierarchies and hence OBIEE would (should) automatically service this query from the highest common level b/w the hierarchies (in this case: base/leaf level - Customer). As a result of this, if CUST is your Customer dimension, OBIEE (at least, the older style of obiee modeling with olap) would introduce the security filter CUST_LEVEL = 'Customer'. Granularity of the resultset returned would be per individual Customer. 1 record per Customer satisfying the criteria SALESMAN='S1' and CITY in ('Athens','Rome').
Ideally you should include the Cust Id, Quantity columns in your obiee answers report and use an internal answers object/view like a Pivot View to hide Customer details column and get a localized aggregation performed over the resultset returned from OLAP to get the consolidated Quantity. Answers table has data at Customer level, Answers Pivot can show the required result.
Note1: The Cube cannot have this result pre-calculated since its a contradictory combination of filters across hierarchies. Level specific aggregate values calculated (or pre-calculated) in the cube for Salesman level (h1) would contain Customers from all cities (h2) and similarly City level (h2) Aggregates would contain Customers of all Salesmen (h1).
Note2: I believe OBIEE modeling with OLAP suffers from some issues relating to multiple hierarchies (e.g: if you have filter from non-default hierarchy CITY in ('Athens','Rome') alone, i think it would still fetch the results from lowest common level Customer instead of from City level directly).

We have a scenario like we should have many hierarchies under one hierarchy and in multiple combinatinons like,
Role,
Employee,
Customer,
Organizational,
Physical &
Product Hierarchies
all these hierarchies are interlinked like
Role -> Employee -> Organizational -> Physical -> Customer -> Product.
and like this each of these shall be in the root and we have to drill down to the next levels.
Eg: Employee at the top and his role, his organizational & physical location authorized, customers assigned to him,....
Our requirement is to show the enduser like this, he may select any of the above and accordingly the report has to be shown.
How to approach this scenario ? any clues ?

Hi Sankar,
You can define Employee, Organization, Physical, Customer & Product as navigational attributes of Role and in the query enable the hierarchy for Role. Then pull Employee, Organization, Physical, Customer & Product under Role this way you will be able to display, the hierarchies of Employee, Organization, Physical, Customer & Product under the nodes of Role hierarchy in the order in which you place them in the report.

Update multiple UDF from one query generator

Hi All,
I have Form1 with multiple UDF1 which have been key in by users
And another Form2 with multiple UDF2 which exactly same with Form1 UDF1
Is there a way that I can copy multiple UDF at Form2UDF2 from Form1UDF1 instead of creating query for each individual UDF, where in query generator I can select more the one column but only first column will be insert to the single UDF.

I mean I have 7UDF in the Payment Form where the information to this UDF are come from 7UDF in the invoice form which already created previously so I would like to copy those UDF from invoice to UDF in payment by using single query to capture all the UDF information by doing:

From above query can I pass the result directly to UDF in Payment Form? or I need to create one query for each individual UDF.

Multiple hierarchies in one dimesion

I am new in using AWM. I have problem when using two hierarchies in one dimension. This is sample of dimension.

Dimension is A and it has two hierarchies B and C. Maintaining the cube is succesfull. But when "add" this cube in OBIEE and try to make request using B1 and C1 we are getting error. How we can have mulitple hierarchies in one dimension and combine columns from hierarchies? We are using database 11g, AWM 11.2.0.2 and OBIEE 10.1.3.4.

Maybe you need to join the generic dimension view A_VIEW with the fact-cube view in the physical layer of rpd on the basis of the key corresponding to the (common) lowest level of the dimension.

---------+C3It looks like you have column/level B3 as leaf level of hierarchy B and C3 as leaf level of hierarchy C.
Is this distinction piurely logical and the same physical column is used to represent both B3 and C3?
Then A_VIEW and Fact view should be joined on basis of this single common level key column.
Generally a dimension A with multiple hierarchies B and C will work fine when you have a common lowest level D, say, which acts as the leaf level for both hierarchies of the dimension.
Can you model the hierarchy as

-----------+D NOTE1: Same level/column D acts as leaf level of Hierarchy B as well as Hierarchy C. We should not use 2 different columns D1 and D2 even if they contain the same data
NOTE2: Dimension A is joined to Fact F1 via level/column D.
In that case, you can issue a query against Fact F1 which uses both level columns B and C from different hierarchies of A against a measure defined in Fact table F1.
You can even add a filter (where clause) on columns B/C/both B and C as required.
Result will be at the granularity of level D (not summarized to either level B along HI_B hierarchy or level C along HI_C hierarchy) -- 1 record per distinct member at Level D of default hierarchy with the corresponding values for columns B and C available as part of the output since they are ancestor fields and availble at level D. A smart reporting tool like OBIEE or BO can even exclude the column corresponding to D locally within a pivot and create ad-hoc, report level, pivot table based local summaries (aggregated results for each combination of values in columns B and C).

Easy one (?) - multiple results in one query

Hi,
I am trying to return multiple (say, 2) columns, each column containing the result of one query; executed in one statement.
Basically the following set of subqueries is working, but I would like to know if there is an easier, less cumbersome way?

(select count(field1) from table1) as count1,
(select count(field2) from table2) as count2
from dual
I tried the UNION ALL but it returns multiple rows.
Ah well, it works but the 'from dual' seems a little odd to me.

Multiple charts with one Query - how to?

Hi Experts,
I wanted to display mulitple charts from the one query in Bex analyzer or WAD. Each chart should be constructed from the data of each column returned from the query. So if the no. of columns in the query is 5 then there should be 5 charts generated. No of columns will be variable. How to achieve it ?? Any idea?
All kinds of suggestions are welcome.

Thanks for your response. Actually the infomation is of technical in nature. Its about processes and the parts. Rows represents parts and columns represent processes. The processes are variable and can be added any time in query.Based on the Query there should be automation of charts. So there is an analysis per process/parts with a single chart. So if the processes are increasing , the automation should also add a chart....thats what the requirement says. So if I have 10 process that I shd get 10 charts and if 15 afterwards then 15....

Count number rows in multiple tables from one query

I was wondering if its possible to have a single query return the number of lines in multiple tables, for example i have the tables
foo1
pk_foo1
and
foo2
pk_foo2
They are not joined together by any contraints. So the pseudo code for the query would be something like

Creating multiple reports from one query

Hello Everyone
I are designing crystal reports where 1 query is built for 1 report / 1 sub-report. To improve overall efficiency of reports, I am trying to design multiple reports/ subreports from the same query. All the sub-reports belong to the parent report and they are very similar to each other.
For example: in Webintelligence, we can just create 1 data provider and pull multiple reports from it and display it in multiple tabs.
Can we do the same thing in Crystal reports??

Hello,
If you are using WEBI then you have access to BOE. Create a Universe and publish it to the Repository and then you can use it as your data source.
But I think what you are asking is how to query the DB once? Not possible, each subreport will run the query each time it's viewed.
What you may want to do is create a Stored Procedure and get all of you info into one data collection and not use subreports, use grouping to emulate subreports. As an Example ....
You may want to create a case in Service Market Place since you have BOE and work with a Report Design Rep to help you work out the best solution for you.

Multiple charts from one query

I have a database containing demographic information for
visitors to various sites. I would like to create a separate chart
for each site summarizing its demographics. My SQL statement looks
something like this:
SELECT SITE, RACE, LANGUAGE, GENDER FROM VISITS GROUP BY
SITE
Can this be used to generate a series of charts, one for each
site? About the only thing I have come up with is a loop using
cfoutput's group option and cfchartdata to get individual data
points and I don't think even that would work since I'm not sure
how I can construct a loop to accomplish this. Thought I'd see if
there was an alternative that I overlooked before I threw myself
into it..

-- Get Main Query: queryMain
-- Prepare first Chart for Site A: querySiteA
SELECT from queryMain where Site = ''siteA'
-- Show Chart with: querySiteA
-- Prepare first Chart for Site B: querySiteB
SELECT from queryMain where Site = ''siteB'
-- Show Chart with: querySiteB
Query of Queries is great for this kind of thing, no need to
go back to the DB, you have the data, now just further filter it
for your needs...

Often the situation is such that you have multiple courses across a range of dates.So students may take more than one course, and you need to track attendance for each course date. The following graphic demonstrates this:
In such a situation, you need four database tables as follows:
students (student_id, student_name, etc.)
courses (course_id, course_name, etc.)
students_courses (student_id, course_id)
attendance (student_id, course_id, dater)
A fifth table may also be needed to define the dates of courses, but you may also be able to build this array programmatically by using PHP's robust date functions, which can give you, for instance, all the Tuesdays and Thursdays between a start date and end date.
The students_courses table simply keeps track of which students are taking which courses, so it has just two columns for the primary keys of both of the main tables. The attendance table is similar, but it also includes a date field. The following view of the attendance table demonstrates this:

I need to find and replace several bits of code in dozens of
files in Dreamweaver CS3. I know how to find/replace for one item
at a time using regular expressions. Is there a way to find and
replace more than one item at at time with regular expressions? I
know I can save and then load previous searches, but that's
tedious. I'd like to load and then execute more

Populate hierarchical tree with Query "Select * from EMP"

Dear(S)
I want to populate a Hierarchical Tree to display results
in a well alligned form as results usually display in SQL Plus environment.
I try much using LPAD() and RPAD() function but fail to get required results.
I want to display more than one field values by concatenating them.
e.g.
SMITH CLERK 800
ALLEN SALESMAN 1600
WARD SALESMAN 1250
JONES MANAGER 2975
Please someone guide me how i can allign more than one field values in a Hierarchical tree.
