Multiple Logical Table Sources In BMM Under 1 Logical Table In OBIEE 11g

I have a question and even after doing a lot of search on google i could not find any article so through to ask you :-
I want to create a Logical Dimension table
This logical dimension has columns coming from 2 different physical tables, TableA and TableB. The relationship between TableA to TableB is 1 to zero.
There are 2 ways to create the logical dimension :-
1) Go to the logical table source properties of TableA-->then there + sign click and then add TableB right outer join with tableA.
Here in the logical table source we see only one table tableA.
2) Drag the tableB column so that we have 2 logical table source.
Please try this to explain without using the concept of fragmentation and without considering the fact tables. I have this question for simple logical dimension tables only.
I wanted to know which is the right way and what requirement/factor decides what to do ?

  • Logical table source in BMM

    Hello,
    I am using obiee 11g.
I have few doubts In RPD with respect to logical table Source.
Consider i have tableA,tableB,tableC in PL.
Now in my BMM i dragged tableA now i want one column from the tableB.
    So which method is correct?
    1>
Go to the logical table source properties of tableA->then there + sign click and then add tableB left outer join with tableA.
Here in the logical table source we see only one table tableA.
2> Drag the tableB column so that we have 2 logical table source.
Now what i am more interested is which method is selected on what basis?
    Any help?
    Thanks

Thanks a lot for the reply
Second case can u just elaborate more.
First case i think i understood.
My main confusion is ok ill explain my situation.
I have tableA,TableB,TableC all are connected.
Now i have one fact table. In that fact table i would like to create 10 measures.5 From tableA,3 from tableB and 2 from tableC.
    So
First i created 5 measures from tableA.
Second i created 3 measures from tableB.
Third i created 2 measures from tableC.
Till now i have 3 logical table source sources in one LTS.
Now in my report when i combine columns from tableA and tableB , tableB column shows no data.
When i see in the sql i see tableB col is not taken itself.
Then i need to go to tableB,then go to General tab and then click + sign add tableA and then go to column mapping and map atleast one col of tableA here.
So on what basis here i should do mapping.
Since i have 3 logical table source sources in one LTS.Each time i click on sources->tableB->i could see even the
    tableA columns but not mapped?
Is that every column from tableA should be mapped to tableB and tableB to tableC and tableC to tableA?I mean in the column mapping
This is something which i am feeling very difficult to understand?
    Pls help me out?
    Thanks

  • Union of more than 2 fragments/Logical Table Sources in BMM Layer

    Hi,
I have come across many blogs which explain how to union two fragments/physical tables in a logical table source.
    Currently, i have a requirement where i have to combine/union 4 fragments/physical tables in a logical table source, say T1, T2, T3, T4 dimension tables.
All have the same table structure, but differ in data.
The requirement is to define dashboard prompt on the union of these tables and populate the values from all the tables.
I am able to union two of the tables using a '>' and a '<' condition on a key column.
But, am not able to union the other two tables.
If i try to put more than 2 LTS, then the union fails.
    Please share your thoughts.
    thanks,
    Varun

    Hi Varun,
What do you mean by the Union fails?
You can have a logical table source in your business layer with 4 different tables as a source.
Import the tables in the physical layer and create your joins.
Then create a logical table in the Business layer and go in the table properties you will see that you can add as much tables as you want into the source (Map to these tables).there you can add all of your 4 tables and specify what type of join you want to have between them (inner, outer...)

  • How to group Table and Graph in the same section in OBIEE 11g

    Hi,
I have a requirement of showing the table and graphs together for various products in different section. For example, for Product A, the table and graph would be displayed together and after product A, the table and graph for product B should be displayed.
I have tried using section but it creates the seperate section for tables and Graphs. Is there a way that we can put the section on table and graph together.
    Thanks.

By any chance are you using a pivot table? If so, you can "Graph Pivoted Results". (When you're editing the pivot table, it's the last button at the top/middle of the page.) Then you can use the products column to break the pivot into sections and you'll have a pivot table and graph per section.

    Hi,
    Many thanks for your Response.
Actually, I have only three columns in the *"Selected Columns"* Section of Answers and they are
    Opportunity Id Effective Date Current
Effective Date is based on Dashboard Prompts with 2 Presentation Variables say Effective Start & End Date and that has been used in answers to have a Revenue Variation report for these 2 dates ONLY.
    So, As per my Requirement,
    1) I have created a Pivot table by having Opportunity ID in Rows Section, Effective Date in Columns Section and Current in Measures Section
    2) Created a Calculated Item for Revenue Difference using the formula $2-$1
So, Everything worked fine so far.
and Next Requirement is to filter the rows from the Pivot results which i have mentioned in the post and they are
    Pivot table View:_
    Sales ID 20120207 20120220 Diff
    1 0 0 0
    2 100 0 -100
    3 100 200 100
    4 100 100 0
    5 200 300 100
    6 0 0 0
    Requirement:_
    1) Filter rows where measure for both Effective dates(20120207 & 20120220) is equal to 0
    2) filter rows where measure for effective date 20120220 is equal to 0 & measure for effective date 20120207 is not equal to 0
    3) filter rows where diff is equal to 0
    expected Output:*

  • Whar are logical table, Physical table Logical data Source

    Hi,
Can any one explain me in details what Whar are logical table, Physical table Logical data Source.
Any qucik help will be graetly appreciated

In OBI there are three layers - Physical, Business Model and Mapping (BMM) and Presentation.
As the name specifies the Physical layer mainly contain physical aspect of the application like which connection to use, which schema (also catalog in case of SQL server) to connect and also which table to use. This layer confirms the PK_FK joins for the related tables. This layer mainly depicts how the data has been stored in the database layer.
On top of this layer you will have you BMM layer. The place where all work of a developer starts. You will structure the tables accourding to the business need. The structure has to be a STAR schema. All the entities in this layer are called logical because they do not directly represent any database object rather they provides a logical mapping to the database entities. This becomes clear when you use more that one Logical Table Source (LTS) for your logical tables. One logical column can map to N number of physical columns based on context. You can also create calculative columns in this layer which are totaly logical in nature.
I am not writing anything on Presentation layer as it is not in you question. :)
    Hope this will help.

  • Dragging the columns to existing logical table source.....

    Hi,
I am just learning OBIEE 11g and I am using a turorial from oracle it is
"Creating a Repository Using the Oracle BI 11g Administration Tool" for practice purpose.
In this tutorial it is saying that drag that columns from phscial layer to Logica Table Source
in BMM Layer to avoid creating a second logical table source.. But when I am trying to drag the columns to
existing logical source it is disabling I mean which it is not allowing .. is there any other technique to
do it... or Am i wrongly approaching.. .The below is brief description in the
    tutorial.
"Drag all six columns from D50 Sales Rep in the Physical layer to D5 Sales Rep in the BMM layer. This action
creates logical columns and adds a D50 Sales Rep logical table source to D5 Sales Rep.
Rename the D50 Sales Rep logical table source to LTS1 Sales Rep.
In the Physical layer, expand D52 Sales Rep Position.
Drag POSTN_DESC and POSTN_LEVEL from D52 Sales Rep Position to LTS1 Sales Rep. Note that you are
dragging the columns to the logical table source, not the logical table. Dragging to the logical table would create a
    second logical table source.
Drag DISTANCE from D51 Sales Rep Parent Child to LTS1 Sales Rep. Again, you drag the column to the logical
table source, not the logical table."
    help would be appreciated.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Sri_Oracle.

    Hi Sri,
When you are dragging a physical column onto an existing Logical table source and if it does not let you do so, then it means that there is no physical join between the existing physical table(which the logical source is pointing to already) and new physical table (from which you are dragging the column now). So, please make sure, you have the join in place.
    Hope this helps.
    Thank you,

  • BIEE Answers: Problem with logical table source

    Hi,
I am creating a detail report in answers. This report does not use any column from the fact table in the logical model, but uses other dimension tables.
In the logical model fact table, I use 3-4 times the same physical table as logical table source in order to filter results or not.
The problem is that my report filters results by using one of the logical table sources. Is there a way to specify in answers or administration which should be my "default" logical table source for the specific physical table joins?
Another workaround is to add as a filter on the report one of the columns from the fact table that do use the desired logical table source, but this is not always a workaround..
    Can you please advise?
    Thanks in advance,
    Nadia

Remember to set the # Elements in your hierarchy to the appropriate ratio between levels, actual numbers not so important but the ratio needs to be correct for the BI Server to make the best guess if using more than one LTS.

  • Table source & web source

    Hi all,
I have some questions, please help me soon.
    Table source:
    - How can I use URL template to display data of many columns, not only the text column? It means that do I have to concat these columns into one?
    - If I have a database with a hundreds of tables, is there any way to create table source rapidly?
    Web source:
    - How do I have to map metatag tosearch attribute so all URL are displayed in the result search page?
    Many thanks and Best Regards,
    LTH

    Hi,
For the question on table source URL template, basically the URL template specifies the web application URL that displays the table record, including the text column. You can check Ultra Search Online Doc 'Data Source Page' for more details on how to setup the URL template. If you want to display multiple columns, you need to modify the web application to make sure all of the desired columns are displayed.
For the question on table source creation, each table source is created based on one table only. If you want to create table sources for each of the tables in a database, currently you need to create the sources one by one through Ultra Search admin tool. There is no rapid way right now.

  • Modelling 2 Fact Tables with Non-Conforming Dimension in OBIEE 11g

    Hi all,
I have two fact tables (Fact 1 and Fact 2) and two dimension tables (Product and Rule). The Product dimension table is a conforming dimension and is used in both fact tables, but the Rule dimension is a non-conforming dimension which is used only one fact table. I'm using OBIEE 11g (11.1.1.6.0).
    ====
    Fact 1
    ====
Sales ID | Product ID | Quantity | Sales Description | Sales Status
    S001 | P001 | 100 | bla bla bla bla bla | N
    S001 | P002 | 200 | bla bla bla bla bla | N
    S002 | P001 | 200 | lab lab lab lab lab | Y
    S002 | P003 | 250 | lab lab lab lab lab | Y
    Notes for Fact 1:
    - One Sales ID can have multiple Product IDs
    - Sales Description and Sales Status are the same for one Sales ID (repeating Sales Description and Sales Status for the same Sales ID)
    ====
    Fact 2
    ====
Sales ID | Product ID | Rule ID | Score
    S001 | P001 | R001 | 2
    S001 | P001 | R002 | 3
    S001 | P002 | R003 | 1
    S002 | P001 | R003 | 1
    S002 | P003 | R002 | 2
    S002 | P003 | R004 | 5
    Notes for Fact 2:
    - One combination of Sales ID and Product ID can have multiple Rule ID
I'm wondering how best to model these tables so that I can create this report (number of the dimension and fact tables created in the business model, level mapping, aggregation rule, etc)? Any suggestion/advice on how to achieve this?
Sales ID | Product ID | Quantity | Sales Description | Sales Status | Rule ID | Score
    S001 | P001 | 100 | bla bla bla bla bla | N | R001 | 2
    S001 | P001 | 100 | bla bla bla bla bla | N | R002 | 3
    S001 | P002 | 200 | bla bla bla bla bla | N | R003 | 1
    S002 | P001 | 200 | lab lab lab lab lab | Y | R003 | 1
    S002 | P003 | 250 | lab lab lab lab lab | Y | R002 | 2
    S002 | P003 | 250 | lab lab lab lab lab | Y | R004 | 5
    Thank you very much!

Hi Dhar, thanks for the suggestions.
I tested what you suggested, but the result is not as per my expectation mentioned above. Here's what I did:
    1. In physical layer:
    - I joined Fact 1 table with Product dimension table only
    - I joined Fact 2 table with Product and Rule dimension tables
    2. In business model layer:
    - I created 3 logical tables: Fact, Product, and Rule
    - The Product table contains the Product ID and Product Name from the Product dimension table in the physical layer
    - I created the hierarchy (logical dimension) for Product with only ProductTotal level (as the grand total level) and ProductDetail level that contains Product ID and Product Name
    - The Rule table contains the Rule ID and Rule Name from the Rule dimension table in the physical layer
    - I created the hierarchy (logical dimension) for Rule with only RuleTotal level (as the grand total level) and RuleDetail level that contains Rule ID and Rule Name
    - The Fact table contains 2 logical tables sources: Fact 1 (which logical level in the Content tab is mapped to ProductDetail and RuleTotal) and Fact 2 (which logical level in the Content tab is mapped to ProductDetail and RuleDetail)
    - The Fact table contains Sales ID logical column (mapped to both Fact 1 and Fact 2 logical table sources)
    - The Fact table also contains Sales Description and Sales Status logical columns (mapped to only Fact 1), which aggregation rule is the default to None
    - The Fact table also contains Quantity logical column (mapped to only Fact 1), which aggregation rule is set to Sum
    - The Fact table also contains Score logical column (mapped to only Fact 2), which aggregation rule is set to Sum
OBIEE returns the expected result when I retrieve the report:
Sales ID | Product ID | Quantity | Sales Description | Sales Status
However, OBIEE returns an error when I retrieve the reports:
Sales ID | Product ID | Quantity | Sales Description | Sales Status | Rule ID
    or
Sales ID | Product ID | Quantity | Sales Description | Sales Status | Rule ID | Score
    The error is:
    Error Codes: OPR4ONWY:U9IM8TAC:OI2DL65P
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 43113] Message returned from OBIS. [nQSError: 43119] Query Failed: [nQSError: 14020] None of the fact tables are compatible with the query request FACT.SALES_STATUS. (HY000)
And the Score column is blank when I retrieved this report:
Sales ID | Product ID | Quantity | Sales Description | Sales Status | Score
Any suggestion anyone? Please help. Thanks a lot!

  • OBIEE 11G   HOLAP( drill through)   from ORACLE OLAP  to  Relaltional table

    Hi Experts...
I have some idea that the drill through from an essbase cube to an relational cube can be possible with few limitations in OBIEE 10g. I am looking for the same feature with ORACLE OLAP option . I have OLAP cube built in 11g (leve5 - granularity to one of the dimension) , and relational has 7 levels. In OBIEE once drill down to the level 5 it has fetched data from OLAP , and going beyond to level 6 -7 then it should get the data from relational table.
Do anyone had gone through such solution, Please kndly share your inputs and documents which would be helpful.
    Thanks
    S

This is very easy. It's really no different from setting up OBIEE to drill from one table to another. Let's assume that you have your cube mapped in OBIEE using the OBIEE plug-in for Analytic Workspace Manager. Here is an outline of the steps:
    1. Add the dimension table and fact table to the OBIEE physical layer.
    2. Add the new level to the OBIEE dimension object in the business layer.
    3. Add the dimension table as a new logical table source to the existing dimension table in the business layer.
    4. Add the fact table as new table in the business layer.
    5. Define joins in the physical and business model as appropriate.
    6. Set set keys in the tables and the dimension as appropriate.
    7. Set the level for the new dimension table to the appropriate level in the dimension.
Again, it's really best to just think about this as drilling from one table to another.

  • Multiple LDAP Servers in Fusion Middleware (OBIEE 11g)

    Hello,
I have a question, regarding integration of multiple LDAP servers with single Weblogic Server of Fusion Middleware (OBIEE 11g). We are currently using OBIEE 10g. We are on verge of migrating to 11g. However, I have a question regarding the LDAP server.
Our two applications run on two distinct LDAP servers. The plan is to provide a single sign on link for OBIEE 11g reports to the end users and depending on what application they are using, they must be authenticated against the respective LDAP server.
So, my question, is it possible to Integrate two different LDAP servers in the Weblogic of Fusion Middleware (OBIEE 11g). If so, what would be the steps. Any helpful document will also be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Chandu.

Yes, you can configure multiple authentication providers one by one as you generally do.
When you configure multiple Authentication providers, use the JAAS Control Flag for each provider to control how the Authentication providers are used in the login sequence. You can set the JAAS Control Flag in the WebLogic Administration Console.
REQUIRED—The Authentication provider is always called, and the user must always pass its authentication test. If authentication succeeds or fails, authentication still continues down the list of providers.
REQUISITE—The user is required to pass the authentication test of the Authentication provider. If the user passes the authentication test of this Authentication provider, subsequent providers are executed but can fail (except for Authentication providers with the JAAS Control Flag set to REQUIRED).
SUFFICIENT—The user is not required to pass the authentication test of the Authentication provider. If authentication succeeds, no subsequent Authentication providers are executed. If authentication fails, authentication continues down the list of providers.
OPTIONAL—The user is allowed to pass or fail the authentication test of this Authentication provider. However, if all Authentication providers configured in a security realm have the JAAS Control Flag set to OPTIONAL, the user must pass the authentication test of one of the configured providers.

  • Problem: 1 physical table -- multiple logical table sources

    Hi,
I'm quite new to BIEE and setting up my repository.
So I have a question, if the following scenario is possible:
    Physical Layer: TABLE_A: COL_A, COL_B, COL_C
    TABLE_B: COL_D, COL_E, COL_F
    Join TABLE_A.COL_A = TABLE_B.COL_D
In Business Model I have a Dimension Table with TABLE_A as datasource with fields DIM1 (COL_B).
The Fact Table (MEASURE) would have twice TABLE_B as data source with different where-clauses on COL_F and logical table columns (ATT1 and ATT2) of value COL_E.
So far I have created everything and the consistency check shows no errors or warnings, but I get an error in Answer: Incorrectly defined logical table source (for fact table MEASURE) does not contain mapping for [MEASURE.ATT1, MEASURE.ATT2], when I creating an report showing DIM1, ATT1, ATT2.
Isn't it possible to have one physical column used as multiple data source?
I know it 's working, when I create the physical table twice ... but maybe there's a solution for business model.
    Thanks
    chrissy

    Hi mengesh,
that's what I also tried, but it's always returning me the same error.
I know it would work, when I import the physical table twice or more, but that's not what I want to do, because at the end I have 10 or more fields based on this one physical table. There's one field indicating what value is contained in the record, this means:
    COL_F | COL_E
    1 | customer name
    2 | customer number
    3 | customer branche
    4 | salesman
    5 | date
    6 | report number
    etc.
I don't think it's usefull to import the physical table as often as I need this field. So I want to divide it in business model.
    thanks

  • Multiple Logical Table Sources vs Single Logical Table Source

OBIEE 11g. I am totally confused. Can someone help me with the following for me.
I have seen logical table sources being used in 2 ways. I have a 2 sources tables: CUSTOMER & ADDRESS. In physical layer these 2 tables are linked by CUSTOMER _ID in a 1:M relationship.  i.e. A customer can have many addresses.
Scenario # 1: In BMM the two tables form a logical table called CUSTOMER with 2 different logical table sources which are CUSTOMER & ADDRESS.
Scenario # 2: In BMM the two tables form a logical table called CUSTOMER with 1 logical table source called CUSTOMER only.
What is the difference between the above 2 scenarios and which one is better to use when creating the logical table source.
    Regards.

Scenario # 1: In BMM the two tables form a logical table called CUSTOMER with 2 different logical table sources which are CUSTOMER & ADDRESS.
-->In this case; based on the columns select source is defined in the physical query
possible case would be CUSTOMER , ADDRESS, and CUSTOMER & ADDRESS
    -->Used in DE-normalized scenarios
--> BI uses intelligence based on content tab settings
Scenario # 2: In BMM the two tables form a logical table called CUSTOMER with 1 logical table source called CUSTOMER only.
-->In this case; CUSTOMER properties->General tab used both CUSTOMER & ADDRESS, in your physical query both tables present irrespective of column selection
    -->Used in normalized scenarios
-->Forcing BI to follow our way, since we wont set content tab settings
    Hope this helps

  • How to "think" use of multiple logical table sources

    Hi everybody,
i'm new to OBIEE and its paradigm. I'm trying to build a prototype with multiple physical sources: ERD and a Data Mart; I need OBIEE to go to the Data Mart model at the need of aggregated info and to go to the relational model at the need of transactional info. I need to do that working with dimensions, assigning different sources to each logical level of the dimension.
My problem begins when thinking how to actually do that. Here is my question:
    - Should I add the relational source in the data mart logical table source folders, mapping the same information with joins? If so, how does dimensions work from that point? (drill down)
    thanks in advance!

    I'm a little confused
    Is the problem
1 - You want to Access a table in an existing 9i database from a different 10g database
    or
2 - You have a new 10g database as a copy of a 9i one, and a table called system has gone missing?
