Multiple many to many - inserting data

Hello, I am building an application like the student to courses one. Mine is a motocross site. I want to insert new series, new rounds into those series, riders in single or multiple classes into those rounds & points into those classes & rounds of the rider. My data base set up is > rider-table with rider name & rider id , class-table with class name & class id, points-table with points name & point id, round-table with round name & round id, series-table with series name & series id then I have a M2M table with all the above corrosponding ids. Every things fine except I cant insert the rider into another round, series etc.. Is this because of my database setup. Do I need to have more M2M tables like riders to class with those 2 id's then riders to rounds & those 2 id's & so on, if so could some explain the database setup. I've been at this for 2 weeks & my brain's a mess. Thanks for any help Chris

Hi Chris,
I've been at this for 2 weeks & my brain's a mess
I´m with you now -- my 3 brain cells immediately shut down when reading your post :-)
However I *think* I know what you´re after and how to resolve this with just one "riders" table. You might want to consider setting up additional varchar columns
(class, points, round, series) in your riders table, and in here store the selected e.g. class table ID´s (not the "names") as "comma separated" values.
ADDT comes with a pretty cool Form Control named "Comma Separated Checkboxes", which ...
a) basically requires an extra query like "SELECT id, name FROM class_table"
b) needs a simple text input field related to the rider table´s "class" column, and
c) will render this input field as series of checkboxes -- the stored value is the class table´s "id", and the displayed name is the class table´s "name"

  • How to insert data in a one-to-many relationship

    How do you insert data into the client, my model entity beans have a one-to-many relationship.
    PARENT ENTITY BEAN
    PARENT-ID
    PARENT-NAME
    The ejbCreate(Integer parentID,String name)
    CHILD ENTITY BEAN
    CHILD-ID
    CHILD-NAME
    PARENT-ID(foreign key of PARENTID).
    ejbCreate(Integer parentID,String name,String foreignparentID)
    In a jsp page i collect the parent details and 3 corresponding chld details in a text box.
    Can you please tell me how do i proceed from here...
    ie. how to i insert data into the entity beans..
    Do i pass the child as a collection, and within parents ejbCreate() method do i lookup for the childs home interface and insert one -by -one from the collection.
    1. Considering the above example, can some one pls tell how the ejbCreate() mehod signatures, for the parent and child entity beans should be.
    2. Pls also show some sample client code as to how to make an insertion.
    3. In case you are passing a collection of child data, then in what format does one have to insert into a collection and also how does the container know how to insert the values in the child table , bcoz we are passing as a collection.
    4.In case collections cannot be inserted do we need to iterate into the collection in parent's ejbCreate() method, and manually insert into the database of the childtable, thereby creating child entity beans.
    Thanks for your time and support...
    regards
    kartik

    Hi,
    3. In this case of course child's ejbCreate(and postCreate) looks like
    ejbCreate(Integer childID,String name,ParentLocal parent) {
    setId(Id);
    setName(name);
    ejbPostCreate(Integer childID,String name,ParentLocal parent) {
    setParent(parent);
    Here you don't need IDs, but it happens only using Locals, not Remotes, if I'm not wrong. Container does it itself.
    1. Of course, if you have parent.getChildren() and parent.setChildren() then you don't need any loops, but it should be done anyway in postCreate, because in ejbCreate there no parent exists yet.
    Once more 3: example - I'm using JBoss 3.2.5 as EJB container. It has tomcat inside and EJB and JSP+Struts use the same jvm. It means for me that I don't need to use remote interfaces, just locals. And in this case I can implement ejb-relations. So, a have the abstract method parent.getChildren() which returns Collection of ChildLocal - s and method parent.setChildren(Collection childrenLocals) which creates/modifies children by itself.
    I have not used remotes for a long time, but as I remember it was not possible to implement ejb-relations using remotes.

  • How many ways to insert data in the R/3 database

    hi
                 abappers,
    could u pls tell me for this question.

    Hi Basha,
    There are many ways to insert data in the R/3 database.
    Based on lot of factors, it will be decided which option to use.
    For example:
    1. Through a BDC ABAP program
    2. Through LSMW tool
    3. Through IDOCS using ALE or EDI
    4. Through ABAP program using insert/modify statement
    5. Manually creating entres in the table
    6. Using transaction code SM30 (Maintain table Views)
    Hope this helps.
    Please reward if useful.
    Thanks,
    Srinivasa

  • How to use many format data into a template?

    How to design a template but it can interface from many format data?

    This is the one from 2010 but should still work.
    http://www.bfcnetworks.com/blogs/alexpearce/pull-sharepoint-2010-document-properties-into-word-quick-parts/
     You basically create a new document in the library (must have the columns you want into the word document), then you use the Quick
    Parts to insert the data where needed. Then you save this document as your template. Then anytime someone creates a document in the library when you open the document it will read from the columns of the item.
    I used a workflow and had the users actually update a SharePoint list, then that in turn creates a new document in the document library and populate the columns from the list form. Then You can send that document link to folks to download / print or whatever.
    Is that what you are talking about?

  • Many to many using date

    Hi all,
    I am constructing a staff training section in my site and need to display the courses and dates that staff members have completed.
    THE DATES ARE IMPORTANT AS THE COURSES NEED TO BE TAKEN AGAIN AFTER A SET PERIOD
    I decide to use a Many to Many as the number of courses available  can be changed. I Have the following tables in the BD:
    Courses
         course_id
         course
    Staff
         Lots of fields
    I am trying to use the following relationship table
    course_rel
         staff_ID (primary)
         course_ID (primary)
         course_date (DATE)
    When I insert the Many to Many action into the staff insert page it works as expected EXCEPT only the bottom field of the insert table is selectable (see image)
    Is it even possible to insert dates in this way? If not can anyone suggest another option?
    Thanks in Advance
    Louie

    OK solved the problem of the inactive fields (changed the auto increment setting of the staff_ID as it was conflicting with other mtm I had in the same form)
    Now however,a new problem has arisen. the fields all work and the date picker works but the date is not being stored in the course_date field of the database?
    All I get in the database is 0000-00-00, any ideas?

  • In ADF how can i insert data in multiple table if they have foreign key

    I have started working on ADF and can anybody inform me in ADF how can i insert data in multiple table if they have foreign key,please?
    Thnak you very much.

    Hello,
    Still no luck.I am surely doing silly mistakes.Anyway,Here are my workings-
    1> student_mst (id(pk),studentname) and student_guard_mst(id(fk),guardianname)
    2> created EO from both of the tables,made id in both EO as DBSequence and an association was also generated.
    3> i made that association composite by clicking the checkbox
    4> i created 2 VO from 2 EO.
    5> put those VO in Application Module.
    6> dragged and dropped 2 VO on my jspx page and dropped them as ADF Form.
    Now what to do please?

  • Insert data into multiple entities at once using a view object

    Hi,
    I'm trying to insert data into multiple entities at once using a view object, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to work. The two entities have a 1:1 association. I created a view object which contains both entities and I made sure they aren't read-only. But like I said it doesn't work, I can't insert data in both entities at once... :(
    Is this possible? And how (if it is)?

    This is definitely supported and tested. Please send us the exception stack trace. You must running into other problems. A few things to note:
    A) You have to mark the entities as both updateable (not read-only) and not reference-only.
    B) If you're not seeing an exception stack, turn on diagnostic. Here is how:
    To turn on diagnostic, go to the IDE,
    1. Select the project.
    2. Do right mouse click and select "Project Settings..."
    3. On the Settings dialog, select Configurations/Runner.
    4. In the righthand side pane, you should see a textbox for "Java
    Options". Please add the following JVM switch:
    -Djbo.debugoutput=console
    Then, rerun. The run command should include
    -Djbo.debugoutput=console as in
    "D:\JDev9i\jdk\bin\javaw.exe" -Djbo.debugoutput=console -classpath ...
    You should now see a lot more output on the IDE's message window. Here you should see the exception stack trace.
    If you invoking your app directly from command prompt, just add "-Djbo.debugoutput=console" after your "java.exe".
    Thanks.

  • Insert data into multiple tables

    Hi all,
    I've a requirement where i need to insert data into multiple tables using PL/SQL procedure
    Procedure should have two parameters
    1. Table Name (parameter1)
    2. Data (parameter2)
    Based on these two parameters i need to insert data into table (parameter1) using data (parameter2)
    ex:
    Procedure insert_data (p_table  IN VARCHAR2
                          ,p_data   IN -- what should be the datatype?
    IS
    l_statement VARCHAR2(2000);
    BEGIN
    -- insert data into tables
    INSERT INTO p_table
    values (....);
    END insert_data;Thanks in advance!!

    BEDE wrote:
    Amen to that!
    So, I believe a better approach would be the following...
    Suppose you have N datafiles with the same structure, and you wish to insert into the database the data from all those files.
    For that, you should have a single table, named, say incoming_file_data, which should be structured more or less like below:
    create table incoming_file_data (
    filename varchar2(250) not null -- name of the file inserted from
    ,file_time timestamp -- timestamp when the data was inserted
    ,... -- the columns of meaningful data contained in the lines of those files
    );And you will insert the data from all those files in this table, having normally one transaction for each file processed, for otherwise, when shit happens, some file may only get to be partially inserted into the table...
    Maybe one good approach would be to create dynamically an external table for the file to be loaded, and then execute dynamically insert select into the table I said, so that you will have only one insert select for one file instead of using utl_file... RTM on that.If the file structures are the same, and it's just the filename that's changing, I would have a single external table definition, and use the alter table ... location ... statement (through execute immediate) to change the filename(s) as appropriate before querying the data. Of course that's not scalable if there are multiple users intenting to use this, but generally when we talk about importing multiple files, it's a one-user/one-off/once-a-day type of scenario, so multi-user isn't a consideration.

    It's gone and you most likely are not getting it back.
    If you had important info on it, you should have made backups so you would not lose the data.

  • Inserting data from jsp form to multiple tables !

    Hi,
    I want to insert data from jsp form to two tables
    tables are
    (1) Form
    formId (PK)
    deptName
    (2) Data
    formId (FK)
    sNo
    description
    itemCode
    and the problem is that i want to save information form a jsp form to above two tables and i have only one form.
    so how do i insert data from a jsp form to multiple tables.

    You already know what your form in the jsp will be and what fields they are. You also already know what your database looks like. Using one form, you should be able to break the data down, and give it certain ids and/or names, so that when the form is submitted, you retrieve the correct values corresponding to a specific field and insert it.
    Unless there is something else I am not catching, this seems pretty straight forward.

  • Inserting data into multiple tables in jdbc

    I am doing on file to jdbc. Now I got a requirement to insert data into multiple tables on the receiver side. How can I do this ?

    Hi,
    you are going to insert data into 4 tables in a sequence one after another , I see three options.
    1) Stored procedure and 2) creating 4 statement data structure (one for each table)
    The third option is writing a SQL with join for the 4 tables and use action command = SQL_DML. Example as follows....
    Write SQL code and place it in access tag. Pass values for the columns using key tag...
    <stmt>
        <Customers action="SQL_DML">
          <access> UPDATE Customers SET CompanyName=u2019$NAME$u2019, Address=u2019$ADDRESS$' WHERE CustomerID='$KEYFIELD$u2019
          </access>
          <key>
            <NAME>name</NAME>
            <ADDRESS>add </ADDRESS>
            <KEYFIELD>1</KEYFIELD>
          </key>
        </Customers>
      </stmt>

    I need some hints.
    Thank you.

    My DB is located on Derby,
    I am trying to reach from jsp pages. Like NewPerson.jsp from wich i want to create new person and his address.
    It can see person bean but can not reach address bean.

  • How to insert data from file to table??

    I need to know that how can i insert data in multiple column through file. I can simply insert data in one column table but couldnt find out the way to put data in all column.
    My data store in a file
    ************************************************text.txt***************
    133, shailendra, nagina, 14/H, 45637, 9156729863
    **************************************************************my_data(table)**********
    trying to insert into below table...
    id, name, last_name, add, pin. mob
    Let me know if anything else needed..:)

    Hi Shailendra,
    Actually, in SQL Developer, you can open a connection to the target schema, right-click on the Tables node in the navigator tree view, select Import Data, then use the Data Import Wizard. It is extremely flexible. It looks like you have a comma separated variable file, so if you select Format: csv and Import Method: insert it will probably work just fine.
    To minimize the chance of errors during import, pick a preview limit value so the wizard can examine the size and data type of all columns in as many data rows as possible, then review the data type/size for each column in the next wizard page and override as necessary. For date columns it is also important to choose the appropriate format mask.
    Hope this helps,
    Gary
