Multiple OracleAS installs

We are creating a shared services environment where we plan to install multiple OracleAS. We don't want the different organizations to have to access URLs containing ports.
Is there a way to make this work?
For example:
Install 1 Listens on port 7777, 443 and we added 80. The url for this OracleAS is https://xyz.org
Install 2 Listens on port 7778, 4443. We want url for this OracleAS to be https://abc.org

Good point, I overlooked the point that you wanted to install both of these on the same machine.
Yes you are right that the default ports that browsers don't require to be specified are 443 and 80. As you said those are used by other install so yes you will not be able to bypass it just with OHS.
I guess in this situation you will either have to have either a software/hardware load balancer or a proxy server to front end these two OHSs. And there you define a rule to redirect to respective OHS based on requested URL.
You can have another (third) installation of OHS and configure it as the proxy for other OHSs. You can configure this third OHS to run on port 443 and 80 and other two OHSs on different ports.
You can also use Oracle Web Cache product (which can act as a reverse proxy/software load balancer). There you can create two sites (of desired external facing URLs with proper DNS settings so those URLs are resolvable) and define a site-to-server mapping for each site pointing to respective origin server (OHS).
Hope this will help.

  • Multiple Oracle Installs

Can you install both Oracle 10g XE (Express) and Oracle 10g Enterprise on the same laptop?
I've already installed Oracle 10g XE and it is working fine. However, I need to install 10g Enterprise to take another tutorial.
When I try to run the setup.exe for the 10g Enterprise I get an error. oui.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. I don't know if this is related to the fact that I already have 10g Express installed. I did stop the 10g XE database before I started the install.

I moved the isntall from a "My Downloads" directory path to a path no my C: drive with no spaces and the install wizard started up fine.
However, at the 78% mark it encountered an error:

  • Guidelines regarding directory structure for multiple Oracle homes on Unix!

    Hi All,
Are there any guidelines published regarding directory structures that should be defined while using multiple Oracle homes on Unix/Linux box?
I am looking for guidelines regarding admin and oradata folders so that we dont accidentally mess up with the DB contents with a wrong Oracle home.
Its a development server with 8i and 10g. 11g might also get loaded on the same server in future.
    Thanks in advance...
    Regards

    Thanks Maran.
I have already checked many installation guides before posting here. All of them mention about creating folders like /admin or /oradata on various mount points but none of the naming conventions really indicate whether it is a 8i database or a 10g database.
This is required when you are having multiple Oracle installations under /opt and databases are running from different mount points.
    Regards,

  • Multiple oracle homes installation

i have installed oracle 9i database on single sever where 8i is residing using multiple oracle homes. After installation some folders and files related to 9i created in 8i home directory(eg:9i admin related folder create in 8i admin folder).but i dont want to create like that.is there any way to create all files related to 9i should reside on that 9i home directory only?

    You didn't specified the OS.
Assume that your OS is Unix-like (Solaris, Linux) and your user is oracle.
The answer is very simple. Use different enviroments.
create in home directory (oracle user) two files:
    1. .ora_8i
    2. .ora_9i
All enviroment variables related for 8i database (ORACLE_BASE, ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID, LD_LIBRARY_PATH etc.) are defined in .ora _8i and all variables for 9i are defined in .ora_9i.
Now, you want working with 8i so you need apply 8i enviroment. To do that simply execute following from shell ". ~/.ora_8i". Now you decided working with 9i so simply execute the ". ~/.ora_9i" from shell.
For installation use the same way. So before you run ./runInstaller load the apropriate enviroment.

  • Multiple Oracle Homes - Oracle Listener failes to start after installation

Just in case the listener fails to start after an oracle installation, please check the oracle ports in the listener.ora and tnsnames.ora, both of which are present in the following directory:
    ...\oracle\<SID>\<Ver>\NETWORK\ADMIN
All installations should have separate listener ports eg. If the first installation has port 1527, the next one should be 1528 and so on..
If they do not, manually change the ports and start the listeners.
Also check SAP Note 98252. Although I didn't find it necessary (I think it applies only if you have a single listener for all oracle homes), it did give me an idea that there some config problem in the .ora files.
Also see [this thread|Oracle Listener error in Import ABAP phase?; for related details

    hi
    thanks for the help ,
I have been using the SQL Server , i am totally blank about Oracle
i am totally confused with this user, and hoststring
i logged in to the enterprise manager using System and manager password
But i cannot connect to any database using SQL Server
i am not remembering any user name or password i have given during installation.
the only thing i remember is
Global databasename = (globedb) i have given
For SID = globedb the same name i have given
for sys ,i have given sysdb as password
and for system i have given systemdb as password
with this can i do anything
when expand the schemas ,i can see the XDB,SCOTT and SYS . how can i login to this .
if i want to login to the scott
what would be the username, password, and hoststring. since i haven't set any password and username ,there would be some default username ,password, and hoststring.
if any one can help me please help me

  • Multiple BAM installations on the same machine?

    Hi guys,
I have a customer with the following requirement:
"We have installed BAM 10.1.3.3 with EL and upgraded to 10.1.3.4. It is currently using a remote database 10.2.0.3 in our test envt. We want to use the same Windows server for monitoring our Development enviroment also using the Dev database. Is it feasible or will it corrupt the IIS of the windows machine already running BAM 10.1.3.4. Please provide your recommendations on this, whether to have separate windows servers or we can have multiple BAM installations on same server."
    Any ideas on this?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Multiple Oracle databases on Single host

    Hi Gurus,
I am new to SAP World. We are planning to install multiple SAP systems (ECC/BW/SRM/XI) on a single host with Oracle 11.2.0.2. As per SAP instguide, the Oracle RDBMS software should be owned by ora<SID>:dba. So we are planning to install the oracle software for the first dev system ERD under 'oraerd:dba' id. And the next will be under 'orabwd:dba' and the third under 'orasrd:dba'.
My questions is, instead of having multiple ORACLE_HOME's owned by individual id's, can I have one consolidated Oracle_Home owned by 'oracle:dba' which then controls all the oracle db's and its datafiles.
I know there is a SAP Note to do this for Oracle RAC (prd is being planned this way), but can we do the same for Single instance also.
    Best Regards
    Shiv

    Hi Orkun,
    > Thanks for your reply. Its a must or its just better to have under individual O_H. The reason we were looking to out all under 'oracle' was that our DR site for the prod is going to be single instance physical standby using DG. SAP recommends to have the OS user on the DR host to be oracle, so that there are no issues with permissios for log shipping.
    > So we will end up having multiple db's system running under 'oracl' on the DR site.
    >
    > -Shiv
    Hi Shiv,
Technically, there's no restriction to configure your system, by this way. But from SAP point of view; at the first step, because the the installation is not completed as referred by SAP installation guide, you will not able to get support by SAP. For the instance, if you face with a problem during the productive, SAP may not support your installation.
Secondly, you may face with the problems at the database upgrades and applying patches. For example, you need to stop all the databases when you decided to patch one of them.
I can count many restrictions about this issue. As a summary, from technical way, it is possible to have one Oracle home, but it is strongly recommended to have different Oracle home folders for each Oracle installation.

  • Oracle Installer Problem while installing Oracle 9i on HP Unix

    Hi Everyone ,
I had earlier installed 9.2.0.1 on Linux and had no probs whatsoever . When i am trying to install Oracle 9.2.0.1 on HP Unix , the Oracle Installer opens up a window saying CHOOSE JDK HOME DIRECTORY . I have already set the PATH environment variable to point to /opt/java1.4 and /opt/java1.4/jre/bin and also JAVA_HOME to point to /opt/java1.4 . Even after trying to put the directory information it refuses to go thru giving the Error INVALID JDK HOME.PLEASE ENTER CORRECT JDK LOCATION.
Any replies would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks
    Ravi

This could be due to you have multiple JDK homes like java1.4 and java1.3. Instead of type JDK home in the windows box, try to browse and select the JDK home and try it. Otherwise, if you have multiple JDK homes, then try to remove one of them.

  • How to determine Oracle_Home default from multiple home installation?

Does anyone know how to determine the current Oracle Home default in the registry when multiple Oracle Home exists?
Both 8i and multiple 9i Version X's exist on a client machine. We need to determine the current default oracle home to determine path for various drivers.
In analyzing the Oracle Home registry keys I have been unable to find a means for identifying the current Oracle Home default.

Thank you for you reply, your advice is good. Unfortunately our application has to deal with all kinds of Oracle configurations and one of those is the multi-home issue. We have looked throughout the registry particular in the HKLM\SOFTWARE\ORACLE|ALL_HOMES\
but have not found any entry that would indicate a default home. One two different system installation of multiple client installations there is no DEFAULT_HOME. We do have the HOME0, HOME1, ... HOME4 but, these are just sequencial based on when they where installed not on the order of preference or any default setting. Problem is our application needs to know the default home to locate the appropriate drives to use and appropriate connects service to look-up(tnsname) also.
    Thanks.

  • Is the Oracle installer itself available in languages other than English?

I know that Oracle can be configured to support multiple languages in the same database, but is the Oracle installation software itself (and/or corresponding documentation) available in other languages?

Ah :-) MOS = My Oracle Support http://metalink.oracle.com (Oracle Support website)
You will need a valid login to get access - a valid login is given when you purchase Support services from Oracle :-)
The installer is available in several languages and it determines the language to run in automatically based on "locale" settings on the server where the installer is run.

  • Problem with Oracle 9i client to access multiple oracle databases

I am having problem setting up oracle client 9i to access multiple oracle db. When I finish installing Oracle 8.x client, I simply replace the tnsnames.ora that the installation created with the ones that I have. I can access three different databases. I only need to add three diffrent entries in the tnsnames.ora file. I cannot be able to do this with Oracle 9i client. I follow the instruction from the CD installation to use local naming method. It appears that Oracle client try to create multiple entries on my tnsnames.ora file but I can only be able to access one db.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks! HD

the old tnsnames.ora is working with Oracle 8 client. The new tnsnames.ora (if I use the Oracle Net config) have two entries, one is dev and the other is prod.
    Thanks!

  • Shared cluster with multiple oracle homes

    Hi All,
    I got to build a shared oracle RAC cluster with multiple oracle home installation ( 10g R1 , 10g R2 , and 11g R1 & 2).
Of course the cluster ware will be version 11.2, but I wondered if there is any dependency on how I install oracle software? Do I have to start with 10g installation first? can I do 11g and then 10g?
Is there anything I should be aware of ?

I installed Oracle Application Server Enterprise which includes AS, Database, OID, Web Cache, SSO etc. and OSES on the same machine. Everything works except I think the windows version of OSES and AS need some patches so the crawler isn't working right. Everything does, however, install and run. I think Oracle develops everything in Linux (rumors of them now using Solaris) so on Linux everything should go smoother.

  • Oracle XE (Windows) Multiple Oracle Homes

I have a question in regards to Oracle Express Edition and how it maintains Oracle Home.
I currently have multiple Oracle Homes on my machine. In order for apps like SQL Developer or PLSQL Developer to see the correct TNSNAMES entries, I usually have to use the Home Selector from the Installation tools to properly obtain the correct tnsnames entries in the dropdowns.
Now, I'm a Linux DBA, not to keen on Oracle environments for Windows. But, when I installed Oracle Express Edition, none of my Applications SQL Developer or PLSQL Developer recognize the tnsnames entries for my environment. From the 9i Home Selector I see that it is in the correct environment I want it to use. But it seems Express has overriden somehow.
Can anyone lead me into the right direction to switch between my XE Environment to my 9i environments?
    Thanks.

I did it too, but the beta over beta software is just too dangerous.. you never know what is crashing your system :)

  • Multiple oracle homes on Windows and the "Path" environment variable

    Hi There,
We have a windows 2003 database server that has few databases running oracle 10.2.0.3. We are installing oracle 11.2.0.1 on the box as well, and we were wondering, which binaries should come 1st in the path environment variable? and how does this effect the working oracle environment?
Going to the oracle home selector and swapping the 2 oracle homes around will have the same effect on the windows path variable - which will treat the 1st oracle home to be the default home - are there any general rules reg. multiple oracle homes on a server and the default home?
Should the earlier version of oracle always proceed the newer one (i.e. c:\oracle\product\10.2.0.3\bin;c:\oracle\product\11.2.0.1\bin) or should the newer oracle version comes 1st as newer oracle versions are usually backward compatible?
    Your thoughts are highly appreciated.
    Thanks

    That isn't going to happen.
If you install 11.2 last it will appear in the PATH variable first
If you don't want that you need to Oracle Home Selector utility in the Installer to change it.
Obviously, as usual, all of this is documented.

  • Can we have multiple grid installations on a RAC configuration

    Hi,
I just want to check whether we can have multiple grid installations running in parallel on same configuration. For eg: A 3 node RAC having 11g and 12c RAC configurations running in parallel.
I understand that we can have multiple oracle database installations under a grid , but not sure of multiple grid installations.
Can someone guide me here ?

    Hi,
You can not have multiple GI running on same server.
    Please review the following  note:

    Specifically:
