Multiple Portal Instances

We have two separate Portal Instances, Development and Production, which are also on separate servers. Can we utiize a SSO Server for both?

Please redirect your query to Product->Portal for faster and accurate response.

  • Create multiple portal instances with only one database?

Can someone create multiple portal instances with only one database?
If so, how is this done, just by running the portal configuration wizard?
How are most people running with multiple developers working on portal? Do they share a portal instance, or create their own?
    Thank you very much!

i'm currently using 9ias rel 2(9.0.2) and i have install one infrastructure and two mid tier, hoping that this will create two portal, but it didn't. Can you please tell me how to do create two portal within one server.

  • Question about Multiple Portal Instances

WE HAVE iAS 1.0.2.2 ON W2000 SERVER AND
DB 8.1.7 ON ANOTHER W2000 SERVER.
WE HAVE A COUPLE OF PORTAL INSTANCES AND WE PLAN TO HAVE MORE IN THE FUTURE.
EACH PORTAL INSTANCE HAS ITS OWN LOGIN SERVER DAD.
EACH PORTAL INSTANCE REPRESENTS A DIFFERENT COMPANY.
WE ARE STILL IN DEVELOPMENT PHASE, TO ACCESS A PARTICULAR PORTAL INSTANCE WE USE
    FOR EXAMPLE:
    http://hostname/pls/DAD_INSTANCE1 http://hostname/pls/DAD_INSTANCE2
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT IS THE BEST SOLUTION TO ACCESS EACH PORTAL INSTANCE LIKE
    http://company1.com http://company2.com
    I WILL APPRECIATE ANY ADVICE.
    TKS!!

You can set up those names, company1.com and company2.com in internal DNS server, if you have one. Or, get an official domain name. Once you get them, you need to modify httpd.conf accordingly. What we do next is modify index.html so an request for company1.com is redirected to /pls/DAD, which is portal home, using onload() javascript function. Then, you can get to portal home by typing http://company1.com as url.

  • Reusing a repository manager across multiple portal instances

    Hi everyone
I am currently implementing a Enterprise Portal, including KM, for a customer. This customer is utilizing two portal instances, one for intranet-users, the other for extranet-users. I am not entirely sure why this approach was chosen, since it was made before I was assigned to this project.
This customer has an interesting requirement: that both portals will utilize the same file share as a KM repository. The idea is that intranetusers (i.e. salespeople etc) will create KM resources for customers. Resources belonging to a specific customer must not be accessible by other customers. Additionally, there may be documents which is only accessible by salespeople.
So far we have implemented automated creation of these resources, including setting the authorisation on folder, as well as file level. This works very well when working with a FSDB repository manager on the intranet server. The issue is that the authorisation settings are obviously not reflected on the extranet-portal, since we have not figured out a way of reusing the same repository manager on the other portal.
My question then is whether it is possible to create an FSDB repository manager on one of the portals and reuse it on the other. This would quite conveniently allows us to reuse authorisation settings across both portals.
Does anyone know whether this is possible at all?
If you need more info to answer this, do not hesitate to ask
    Best regards,
    Svein Gunnar Standnes

    Hi Svein,
as I assume you know, if you use a CM Repository in FSDB mode folders and documents are stored in the file system, but metadata is stored in the database. Integrating a fileshare into two portals as a CM Repository in FSDB mode will lead to serious inconsistencies, as for example one document will have KM properties in one portal but no properties (or other) in the other, different version histories, and many more!
The only way to integrate in both portals a fileshare would be as a File System Repository Manager in <b>write-protect (read-only) mode</b>. If the repository is not read-only in such a scenario, concurrent updates to a file by different users on different installations can leave the content of the file in a corrupt state.
So to sum it up, in write mode I would definitely refrain from integrating the file share in two portals!
    Hope this helps,
    Robert

  • Multiple Portal Instances and Cookie Names

i have three portal instances (3.0.7) under the same database 8.1.7 on NT.
    for example:
    portal30 + portal30_sso
    myportal + myportal_sso
    testportal + testportal_sso
actually i cannot work on more than one portal at the same time. so, each time i want to work under a particular portal i make sure i am not logged in the other two.
if i assign a different COOKIE NAME in the
GATEWAY for each DAD it will fix my problem?
    any suggestion?

i will appreciate some answer to this posting.

  • One portal instance - multiple URLs & Pages

I have created multiple portal_home pages on one portal instance and would
like to redirect calls from two different URLs to specific Portal_home
pages. For example, when the user types in http://foo.us.oracle.com they
    are redirected to http://foo2.us.oracle.com/pls/portal30/url/page/page1
and those who type http://foo2.us.oracle.com are redirected to
    http://foo2.us.oracle.com/pls/portal30/url/page/page2. How can this be
    done?
    Thank You,

  • Multiple portal server instances

    Hello,
I have one solaris box with JES 2005Q4 installed. I need to set up portal application development environment for multiple developers. I'm thinking about having multiple portal server instances. Is this configuration possible? Should I create multiple directory server and access manager instances as well or is it possible use one with multiple configuration instances?

Installing multiple instances of portal is only possible if you are installing in a Solaris 10 Whole-Root Zone. Create a new zone for each developer and then install all of the necessary JES components in each zone. This includes Directory, Access Manager, Application Server, and Portal.

  • One TREX server for multiple Portals?

I have the same requirement as that contained in this thread:
    TRex for Multiple Portals
I wonder if anyone can technically elaborate a bit what the procedure for this configuration.
I would have to install a TREX and create a TREX instance for each Portal that I want to give TREX service?
Each instance points to a different host?
My requirement is to use the same TREX to both DEV and QA Portal hosts.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. !!

  • Multiple Portals with OAM

    Hello All,
Is it possible to register multiple Portals to single OAM instance for authentication? If so is there a document available somewhere? I could only find OBE integrating single Portal with OAM.
    Thanks in advance!

Yes, you can do that. You basically need to setup mod_osso agent in OAM.
Oracle Portal behaves exact in the same way as any mod_osso protected application. If you are able to protect a standard HTML file on the webserver's operating system, you will be able to protect your Portal as well.
    Setup is not documented (yet).
    Thanks,

  • Is there a way of making one portal instance serve several domain names ?

We have one Portal instance (3.0.8) that contains one Intranet, one Extranet and 5 Internet sites (Page hierarchies). After redirecting calls to the diffrent domains (sites) to their corresponding Portal page in the webserver, the URL reveals that we are actually running all these sites on the same Portal domain. I know that we can change the Portal domain by running the ssodatan script, but is it possible to have one portal instance work for several Portal domains ? I realise that this is probably far fetched, but I just had to ask... This will not create a big problem for us, it's mostly an esthetical issue.
    Morten

    Yes you can do this.
Your machine must have multiple IPs with a different name associated with each IP.
Look at the ssodatax scripts. This script allows you to make additional entries into the login server repository to register new names with the login server.
Add each name using the ssodatax script and you will be fine.

  • Multiple portlet instances with public portlet parameter.

If I have a java Portlet with a public portlet parameter, and I put two portlet instance (same portlet) on the same page.
Can page designer assign different value for the public portlet parameter of different portlet instance?
    Or the question is:
Is public portlet parameter per portlet definition, or per portlet instance?

    Hi Derek,
Let me give it shot. Gurus correct me if I am wrong!!
In an hosted environment we can have multiple Organizations or Organization units that may be catered with a single Oracle9iAS Portal instance. In which case each of these Organizations / Organization units will be Subscribers to the Oracle9iAS Portal and will have an unique Subscriber ID. A company name is a part of the Subscriber profile so a subscriber has a Company that it belongs to. So if the Marketing dept. of a 'X' company is a subscriber to Oracle9iAS Portal, then this Subscriber will have a Subscriber ID associated to it and the Company that he belongs to is 'X'. So we can have a Company who has one or more subscribers to Oracle9iAS Portal.
The distinguished name, or DN, is the identifier for unambiguously referring to a particular entry in the directory. The DN is formed by sequentially connecting all
the individual names of the parent entries of the node, back to the root.
I hope this helps, please get back in case you have any questions.
    Take care,
    Manoj

  • Multiple Portals on One Infrastructure?

I am migrating (rebuilding not upgrading) several client portals from Portal 3.0.9 to 10g. In 3.0.9 I had several separate databases with Portal repositories in each database and each portal had a different DAD.
I have seen some posts which state that in 10g there can only be one portal repository per infrastructure and only one infrastructure per server. Can someone please confirm this and point to the documentation which states so?
I have read "Supporting Multiple Sites and Companies in a Single Portal Instance with Virtual Private Database" (Paper #32650). Sounds like the perfect solution to my problem. But what is the performance hit of deploying Virtial Provate Database (VPD) and virtual private portal? Has anyone actually deployed VPP, and has a story to tell?
    Thanks,
    Trenton

Thanks for the info. Here's a few more details. I
have two Linux servers with lots of RAM and disk
space. One runs the midtier and the other the
infrastructure. According to your post, I should:
    1. Install multiple portal schemas (portala, portalb,
etc) to the existing asdb database using opca and/or
ptlasst (I assume these still exist in 10g).Trenton, We do support multiple DAD's per portal mid-tier and multiple portal schema's per database in Oracle Application Server 10g but only for upgraded portals, not for new portal installations. I strongly recommend NOT to use ptlasst in 10g to create multiple portal schemas in your existing asdb instance.
    2. Associate each of these with the existing OID.
    3. Install Mulple Oracle Homes on the Midtier server,
each associated with a different portal schema
(portala, portalb, etc) on the infrastructure server.
(Why not just different DADs in the same midtier?)
Do I have it right?Unfortunately not, the process I would recommend for 10g is:
    1. Install one Oracle Database Home (either 9.0.1.5, 9.2.0.4 or 10g) using the Oracle database installer
    2. Create multiple database instances using dbca (or your favourite method), one for your OID/SSO and one for each of your portal product metadata repositories (you can use the OID/SSO database for your first portal portal product metadata repository also)
    3. Run the RepCA (Repository Creation Assistant) against all of these db instances to turn them into proper OracleAS Metadata Repositories
    4. Install a second Oracle Home using the OracleAS 10g installer:
    - Select a Product to Install >> OracleAS Infrastructure 10g
    - Select Installation Type >> Identity Management
When you are prompted for a database use one of the existing db's you just created for your Identity Management DB (oid/sso/etc schemas)
    5. Re run the RepCA -REGISTER (Repository Creation Assistant) against all of the db instances (except for the one you just chose as your Identity Management DB) to register them all with the OID service you just installed.
    6. Install your your first portal mid-tier in a third oracle home using the OracleAS 10g installer and when prompted by the installer and wire it to your Identity Management services & First Product Metadata Repository (there will a pop-list in the installer for all the db's you just registered)
    7. Install your your second portal mid-tier in a fourth oracle home using the OracleAS 10g installer and when prompted by the installer and wire it to your Identity Management services & Second Product Metadata Repository (there will a pop-list in the installer for all the db's you just registered)
    8. Install your your third portal mid-tier in a fifth oracle home using the OracleAS 10g installer and when prompted by the installer and wire it to your Identity Management services & Second Product Metadata Repository (there will a pop-list in the installer for all the db's you just registered)
    9..and so on...
I'd appreciate a look at your
draft whitepaper if that would help. It's only applicable for people who are performing an upgrade, not a rebuild or new install of 10g so it wouldn't really help you.
    Compared to the
VPP solution how would this solution be for
administration, CPU intensity, etc.? Also since all
portals would share the same OID/SSO server, would
there be a problem with the client user administrator
seeing the users of other clients?
In general I would not recommend using VPP as this setup is not widely used and is quite specialised.
    Thanks Again,
    TrentonHope this helps,
    Mick.

  • Multiple Portlet Instances

    Hi,
I need deploy multiple portlet instances of the same portlet with different
    parameters.
What I means is I have 4 different pieces of conent which look same and can
be served by same portlet. So I need to define different instances of the

    Hi Michael,
We explored this option, but will we need to know the Portalet id to get
the properties, to get a portlet id we need to use a unpublished api. Is
there a forward compatible way of doing this???

    Uday,
You can use product catalog store provided by WLP to store portlet "custom
properties". For example, you can create a custom property set for your
catalog where you can define any properties, which you portlets will useat
runtime. Each portlet will be represented as a unique product item in the
repository. You will need to use EBCC to define custom property set foryou
catalog and portal administration app to populate these properties foreach
portlet "product item". You can also create a separate category "portlets"
in the catalog structure and put your "portlet" product items in there.
Once all this is defined, you can use the product catalog jsp tags to get
access to these properties in the jsp page.

WLP does not yet support this feature. However you can emulate this
behavior by deploying the same portlet multiple times.

This one says No : http://www.freelists.org/archives/oracle-l/02-2008/msg00317.html

...that document doesnt say you cannot have multiple ASM instances on a node. It says "...ASM, +you only need one ASM+ instance for that computer, to manage the two database instances that use ASM."
The fact that you only need one - and I cannot think of a good reason to have more than one - does not preclude the fact that you do seem to be able to have multiple ASM instances on a single node, each looking after its own set of disks and diskgroups.
Again - I cannot think of a good reason to do so though!
