Multiple threads on the same applet

hey,
i want the following functions should be performed by threads
*background color of my panel should be changed after the given interval,
*Label of the panel i.e"HELLO USER" should also blink for the given interval
*the pictures which i have added on that panel should be shown or hide  for the particular time interval.
basically i want to know how can i use three threads simultaneously on the same panel.

Have you tried writing code first or just looking for solution simply...
You can either create anonymus class or, create a seperate class for Thread or, implement Runnable class
1. Make Blinking text as component which implements Runnable interface.
2. Make ImageDisplayer as component which implements Runnable interface.
3. Make a panel which can change colour as another component which can change color, extent JPanel and implement Runnable interface.
4. For all the three classes put the logic in run method within a loop and add sleep with required interval (Refer java examples).
5. Add components to Frame/Applet/Panels and create thread object for them.
6. Start the thread
Example:
Thread blinkingThread = new Thread(...object of runnable interface...)
blinkingThread.start()

  • Problem:Multiple instances of the same applet on a webpage...

    I have an applet which connects to a server to read an XML-file.
    I use Doucument to parse the XML-file like this:
    String xmlurl="http://www.somesite.com/somexmlpage.php";
    Document d =DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance().newDocumentBuilder().parse(xmlurl);
    (...read the XML-file...)
    This works fine.
    However, I need multiple instances of the same applet running at the same time on the same webpage.
    Now, with multiple applets running at the same time the parsing no loger works. If one applet is doing some parsing and a taskswitch takes place to let another applet run, the applet which is interrupted is not able to continue the parsing as it looses its "incoming data" when another applet reads from the server.
    How can different applets affect each other like this?
    And how can I fix the problem?
    Thanks in advance for any help!!

    However, I need multiple instances of the same applet running at the same time on the same webpage.
    Why? But okay.Because the the different applets show information about different items.
    Now, with multiple applets running at the same time the parsing no loger works. If one applet is doing some parsing and a
    taskswitch takes place to let another applet run, the applet which is interrupted is not able to continue the
    parsing as it looses its "incoming data" when another applet reads from the server.
    How did you determine that's what's happening?By printing out debuginformation.
    Each applet prints out a message (System.out.println) when it creates an instance of Document (ie. connects to the server) and the applet also prints out XML-information as the XML-file is processed.
    But, actually, I was a bit quick in my first post; The applet doesen't neccesarily loose its "incoming data", but the parser looses the data it is parsing. I can download the data from the server first, and then start parsing it. If a taskswitch happens while one applet is parsing, it looses its data, even if the data is allready downloaded.
    I see this since I see another applet making a printout, and when first applet starts again, the parser has lost track of its data.
    It works fine if only one applet is running. And everything is fine until the next applets starts; I can see this from the printout.
    Again, the appet prints out data as it parses the document. I see the next applet starting to work, and when the first one continues parsing again the printout shows that data is no longer there. It happens everytime the runtime switches to another applet, and it never happens if just one applet is running.
    Googeling a little tells me that DocumentBuilder.parse() isn't thread-safe, but this shouldn't have anything to do with it, should it?
    Each applet is a separate process, and not different threads in the same process, aren't they? (Not sure how the runtime treats multiple applets...)And secondly, the applets create their own instance of Document anyways.

  • Can I combine multiple threads from the same contact in iMessage?

    iMessage displays multiple threads for the same contact.  Its very confusing and has resulted in lost messages.  I've tried changing a number of settings but to no avail.  Seems to require everyone in my contact list to eliminate all their email addresses in iMessage.
    Begs the question why does iMessage even need this information?  Worse, why does it suck it into its settings by default.  The directory server should only require a valid Apple ID (associated with the users' devices)  in order to direct an iMessage between two contacts.

    Thanks for the reply, appreciate your input.  I did find another way of doing it and that is to highlight the first e-mail, hold down the shift key and click on the last one.  That highlights them all and then they can all be deleted.  Your ideas also work of course and I thank you for that.  Cheers.

  • Can multiple threads share the same cursor in berkeley db java edition?

    We use berkeley db to store our path computation results. We now have two threads which need to retrieve records from database. Specifically, the first thread accesses the database from the very beginning and read a certain number of records. Then, the second thread needs to access the database and read the rest records starting from the position where the cursor stops in the first thread. But, now, I cannot let these two threads share the same cursor. So, I have to open the database separately in two threads and use individual cursor for each thread. This means I have to in the second thread let the cursor skip the first certain number of records and then read the rest records. However, in this way, it is a waste of time letting the second thread skip a certain of records. It will be ideal for us that the second thread can start reading the record just from the place where the first thread stops. Actually, I have tried using transactional cursor and wanted to let the two threads share the same transactional cursor. But it seems that this didn't work.
    Can anyone give any suggestion? Thank you so much!

  • Multiple threads access the same method.

    Hello,
    I have been trying for a long time to find out multiple threads access the shared data.
    I have written a sample code, there I my intention is that method has to be accessed
    onlny one thread at a time., mean one thread finished the job, then next thread can
    access the shared source. But for this code I am not getting the desired out put what I want. But if I am using synchronized block I am getting the output. Please correct where I got mistake. Please see my code.
    public class TestThread implements Runnable {
         Shared r;
         public TestThread() {
              r = new Shared();
         public static void main(String args[]) {
              Thread t1 = new Thread(new TestThread());
              Thread t2 = new Thread(new TestThread());
              t1.setName("A");
              t2.setName("B");
              t1.start();
              t2.start();
          * (non-Javadoc)
          * @see java.lang.Runnable#run()
         @Override
         public void run() {
              // TODO Auto-generated method stub
              r.count();
    class Shared {
         public synchronized void count() {
              String name = Thread.currentThread().getName();
              System.out.println(name + ":accessed...");
              try {
                   for (int i = 0; i < 5; i++) {
                        System.out.println(name + ": " + i);
              } catch (Exception e) {
                   // TODO: handle exception
    }Thanks
    Bhanu lakshmi.

    It depends on what you synchronize. Non-static methods synchronize on the object, so if you're using several objects, you'll be able to call each from their own thread.
    Make your method synchronized or use only a single object and see the difference.

  • Problem with multiple threads accessing the same Image

    I'm trying to draw into one Image from multiple threads. It works fine for a while, but then suddenly, the image stops updating. Threads are still running but the image won't update. I'm using doublebuffering and threads are simply drawing counters into Image with different speed.
    It seems like the Image gets deadlocked or something. Anyone have any idea what's behind this behavior or perhaps better solution to do such thing.
    Any help will be appreciated.

    Sorry Kglad, I didn't mean to be rude. With "No coding
    errors" I meant the animation itself runs with no errors. I'm sure
    you could run the 20 instances with no freezing (that's why I put
    the post :) ) But I'm affraid it is an animation for a client, so I
    cannot distribute the code.
    Perhaps I didnt explain the situation clearly enough (in part
    because of my poor english...).-
    - By 20 instances I mean 20 separated embedded objects in the
    html
    - The animation is relatively simple. A turned on candle, in
    each cycle I calculate the next position of the flame (that
    oscilates from left to right). The flame is composed by 4
    concentric gradients. There is NO loops, only an 'onEnterFrame'
    function refreshing the flame each time.
    - It's true that I got plenty variables at the _root level.
    If that could be the problem, how can I workaround it?
    - It is my first time trying to embed so many objects at the
    same time too. No idea if the problem could be the way I embed the
    object from the html :(
    - The only thing I can guess is that when a cycle of one of
    the object is running, the other 19 objects must wait their turn.
    That would explain why the more instances I run, the worst results
    I get. In that case, I wonder if there's a way to run them in a
    kind of asynchronous mode, just guessing...
    Any other comment would be appreciated. Anyway, thanks a lot
    everybody for your colaboration.

  • How can multiple threads hold the same lock?

    I was always under the impression that no 2 threads could hold a lock for the same object, and yet the HotSpot traces say this is happening all the time.

    Have I miss-interpreted the HotSpot stack trace?

    To summarise they are both in a synchronized block on the same mutex/Object, but one is in a wait and one isn't.
    So then it follows that if the HotSpot thread reads " - waiting on <address>" like:
    "SomeThread" daemon prio=6 tid=0x29a06658 nid=0xf28 in Object.wait() [0x2b18f000..0x2b18fa1c]
    at java.lang.Object.wait(Native Method)
    - waiting on <address> (a javax.swing.TimerQueue)
    at com.comp.SomeThread.run(TimerQueue.java:236)
    - locked <0x09539510> (a javax.swing.TimerQueue)
    at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:595)
    then it means that the thread is trying to enter the synchronized block on the same mutex/Object but it can't because there is another thread in there which is running, so it is waiting on the outside of the lock instead of the inside of the lock like "ClientMessageReceptor840".
    Ok, I think I get it now. Thanks everyone for your help.

  • Multiple instances of the same applet loaded causes problem

    I have a java applet that has several classes in the project. The applet has a JTable a JButton and a JLabel control. The applet is displayed within an HTML page. The problem is that if a user opens the same html page more than once with the applet in it, only the last applet loaded receives the screen updates.
    For example in one senario. I have an error message that displays in the Label control once they click on the button.
    The user opens the html page and the applet is loaded (window 1). The user then opens the same html page again (window 2) with window 1 still open. If the user clicks on the Button in window 1, the error message is displayed in the window 2 applet.
    Originally I had some static variables. Thinking it was being used globally by the JVM so I removed all of them and it still happens. I have tried using both the Applet and Object tag. But it still happens.
    Has anyone experienced this before? Any suggestions on how to make the applet update the instance that recieved the events and not just the last one that was loaded?

    You need to look at applet classloader issues. If applets have the same archive list and come from the same codebase, they have the same classloader. A class is namespaced by it's class + classloader. Any statics in a class with a classloader will be shared. If you instead make it such that your applets have unique classloaders (which you can't change for unsigned applets by yourself) by changing the codebase, that would be one solution.
    For other solutions, I recommend searching the forum. This issue comes up a lot.

  • Multiple Threads at the same time

    I am new to threads but what I am attempting to do is start a new thread for each report frequency. Each thread will be on a timer to loop at that frequency. Say, for example, I had reports defined to run at 60, 90, and 1440 minute frequencies. I want to kick off a thread for each of those frequencies. While this code does work, it does not start the next thread until the first one is done. Can I get this loop to spawn threads without caring if the preceeding one is finished or not?
    Here is the code.
    public class Monitor {
    public Monitor() {
    super();
    public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
    try {
    ResourceBundle properties = ResourceBundle.getBundle("report");
    String db_driver = properties.getString("DB_DRIVER");
    String db_url = properties.getString("DB_URL");
    String db_user = properties.getString("DB_USERNAME");
    String db_pwd = properties.getString("DB_PASSWORD");
    long freq = 0;
    Class.forName(db_driver);
    String url = db_url;
    Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection(url, db_user, db_pwd);
    EventLog.log("Connection Succeeded");
    String qryString = "select distinct report_freq as report_freq from reportapp";
    Statement stmt = con.createStatement();
    ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery(qryString);
    ResultSetMetaData rsmd = rs.getMetaData();
    EventLog.log("Query Succeeded");
    boolean moreReports = rs.next();
    while (moreReports) {
    freq = rs.getLong("report_freq");
    new MonitorThread(freq).start();
    moreReports = rs.next();
    rs.close();
    con.close();
    } catch (Exception fatal) {
    EventLog.log("Monitor Exception: " + fatal.getMessage());
    return;
    }//end of main//
    //Thread Code//
    public class MonitorThread extends Thread {
    public MonitorThread(long sleepfor) {
         super();
         run(sleepfor);
    public void run(long sleepfor) {
    try {
    boolean isReportActive = true;
    while (isReportActive) {
    long n = sleepfor * 1000L * 60L;
    //Call class that runs the reports//
    Report.PerformSystemChecks(sleepfor);
    Thread.sleep(n);
    } catch (Exception fatal) {
    EventLog.log("Monitor Exception: " + fatal.getMessage());
    return;
    }

    Here how I would do it... I left few parts open, but you should get the idea.
    abstract class ScheduledThread extends Thread
      long freq, nexttime;
      public ScheduledThread(long freq)
        nextTime=System.currentTimeMillis()+freq;
        this.freq=freq;
      public long getNextTime()
        return nexttime;
      abstract void scheduledRun();
      public void run()
        nextTime+=freq;
        scheduledRun();
    class Scheduler extends Thread
      Vector sceduled=new Vector();
      public synchronized void addSchedule(...)
        scheduled.add(sched);
        notifyAll();
      public long getNextTime()
        // get the lowest time returned from all the sceduled threads
      public void run()
        while (true)
          long nextCall=getNextCall();
          synchronized (this)
            // using wait we can break out of the wait loop if new schedules are added with notify.
            long time=nextCall-System.currentTimeMillis();
            if (time>0)
             this.wait(time);
          // go through all the threads and run those that getNextTime()<System.currentTimeMillis()
    }

  • Multiple threads calling the same stored proc with different parameters

    Hi,
    I have a stored procedure which will be called by 8 threads. Every time it takes in a different parameter.
    Actual execution time for this proc (irrespective of the parameter) is around 2 seconds. But when I call the 8 threads, I see that the total time taken (END TO END) is around 16 seconds. Threads do acquire a read lock right? Is there a way i can get over this issue?

  • Transaction across multiple databases in the same BDB environment

    Hi,
    I have multiple databases and one metadata database all in the same BDB environment. At runtime I want to create an additional database, update this database and update the metadata database in the same environment under one transaction. Are there any issues in having transactions that span multiple databases in the same environment?
    Thanks,
    Pooja

    There is virtually no difference between using multiple databases and a single database in a transaction. Concurrency is determined by other factors such as whether multiple threads access the same records. See the Writing Transactional Applications for more information:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/je/TransactionGettingStarted/index.html

  • How to open the same applet over multiple clients.

    hi all,
    i am making a applet application .The same applet has to be opened at the same time at different client and the changes in the information upon the applet page must be reflected at all the clients how can i do that plz sujjest me.
    Thanks in advance.

    You would have to have all of the applets connect to a "server applet" on one of the computers. When the applet starts, you could give the choice to host or connect to another host using an ip address and port, using the ServerSocket and the Socket classes. However, this requires multiple threads running, but is quite possible. The server would need threads to accept clients, receive information, and send information (plus the built-in gui and event threads). The clients would need a thread to receive information from the server and update the applet page.

  • Sharing one iTunes library across multiple accounts on the same Mac

    Hello, I've poked around at some of the posts dealing with sharing one iTunes music library across multiple accounts on the same Mac but it seems like this can only be done if the libary is moved to a shared folder. I realize this can be done but I was trying to share it the way it is described in a post on Apple support (See link below.). That post seemed to imply that you don't have to move the library from its original location (owned by account A, e.g.), rather just make a couple preference changes in the accounts, use fast user switching and voila. That doesn't seem to work. So my question is this: Is the only way to share one iTunes music library across multiple accounts on the same Mac to move it to a shared folder? I'm running 10.4.8 on an Intel iMac. Thanks in advance!

    After reading this and several other related threads, I am becoming thoroughly confused about all of this. I have a situation similar to the one that pokerpal described in the post dated January 7 at 8:06 pm, except that the music files on my system are located on an external hard drive. Everything else is pretty much the same though - I am the admin user (and the main iTunes user and maintainer) and my girlfriend is a standard user who has no music in her own iTunes library. She can see and listen to and make playlists from and sync her iPod with the music in this library from her account, and I can do the same thing, independent of her, from my account. And if I make a change to information within a song, she doesn't see it, and vice versa, and I understand that. What I don't understand is why when I add a song or an album to the music files by importing a CD or downloading something from the iTunes Music Store, she has no way of knowing that unless I tell her, and then she can add it to her library by using the "Add to Library" function. Is there no way of automatically updating her library files to add the new song(s)? We have almost 15,000 songs and videos in that library, and I don't even want to think about what might have to happen if the answer to my question is "no." Interestingly enough, if I put an update to a Word document in the same exact location (on the hard drive), we can update that and pass it back and forth all day - why is that such a difficult task for iTunes to accomplish?
    Sorry I went on so long, but this has been building up for some time, and none of the solutions I've read about here have really been of any help, so I'm a bit frustrated and, as I said at the beginning, confused.

  • Can you have multiple databases on the same LUN in Exchange 2010?

    I'm sure you can but is it possible with exchange 2010 to have multiple databases on the same LUN.  We currently have 8 DB's all writing to their own DB drive and separate log drive so 16 drives in total.  I need to spin a new DB up this week and
    wanted to double check this is possible.  I've looked online and cant find anything that I've seen before that says this is possible.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Yes, multiple databases could be placed on the same LUN, but it's not recommended.
    If you have 2 drives fail at the same time (it happens more than you think), then losing 100% of your DBs is a lot worse than losing one of them or some of them depending on where the failures are.
    Here is a similar thread for your reference:

    Hope this helps!

  • Multiple users, using the same web app items?

    Iam building a service for familes were the parents should be able to read / add / edit the same secure web app items.
    So when logged in the user have access to the same user submitted web app items.
    I found a thread answerd by Liam and my guess this is not possible? Can it be partial be done e.g. just let the "family" read the familys items? And no there is not possible to add / pair the users in backend because there are to many.
    Any tip where to look? I have tried to use the "uniqe ID, datasource, unique template" method but do you "wizards" :-) think that's the way to go?
    This thread suggest it's not doable.

    Not in association Johan no.
    You can have one "Family" login they all use to log in but it will kick one out if the other logs in and of course, multiple people sharing the same login increases the security risk.
    You can only set one owner as well.
