Multiple value parameters in JSP to Portal

Hello all,
I'm creating parameter forms in JSP to run from the Portal 9i. I have a parameter form with select boxes that allows the user to select multiple choices. But when I submit the parameters. Only the first selection of the choices are being passed as parameters to the report.
Code is as follows:
<label for="search_by">Choose Search By:</label>
<select multiple size=5 name=search_by>
<option value="Appraiser" selected>Appraiser
<option value="Broker" >Broker
<option value="Title Company">Title Company
<option value="Credit Bureau">Credit Bureau
<option value="PMI">PMI
</select>
Is there any way to check the values of "search_by" before I submit to the Portal?
Or do you know of any examples showing how to set this up so the Portal sees all the values selected by the user?

Hi,
As you are saying...
Attributes : PostalCode
Value : abc123
in the second line,
Attributes : PostalCode
Value : cde456
Is the data looking like..
Address   Postal code
ABC         abc123
CDE         cde123
In this case, you could easily load data into BW, just create 1:1 mapping
If the data is:
Address   Postal code
ABC         abc123
ABC         cde123
Then please get confirmation from business as to which postal code is correct, as this may be a incorrect data isue.

Pankaj

  • SQL and Multiple Values Parameters

    Hi,
    I've pretty much exhausted my search (google and in this forum) with finding a solution to my problem... So now I'm hoping that any of you will be able to help me out.
    I am writing an Oracle SQL query to get the data for a Crystal Report (Product Ver. 11.5.8.826).
    What I am trying to do is to allow a parameter to be entered by the user based on three possibilities:
    1. user enters a single value (eg. '66200')
    2. user enters multiple values (eg. '66200, 66201')
    or
    3. user leaves the parameter alone (eg. '' )
    The query works up to when I try do the following...
    Select
    From
    Where
    and ({?param_id} IS NULL OR table1.ID IN ({?param_id}))
    {?param_id} settings:
    'List of Values' = Static
    'Allow multiple values' = False
    'Value Type' = String
    with no Default Value
    table1.ID is of type Integer
    Using the above query, it works when I enter a single value such as '66200', but I get the following error when I leave the param_id blank:
    "Failed to retrieve data from the database.
    Details: HY000:(Oracle)(ODBC)(Ora)ORA-00936: missing expression
    (Database Vendor Code: 936 )"
    When I try to enter the value '66200, 66201' (yes, I know I have Allow multiple values set to False, and I do want the user to be able to enter more than one ID by using comma as a separator), I get the following error:
    "Failed to retrieve data from the database.
    Details: HY000:(Oracle)(ODBC)(Ora) ORA-00920: invalid relational operator
    (Database Vendor Code: 920 )"
    But when I have the following query:
    Select
    From
    Where
    and (table1.ID IN ({?param_id}))
    and enter the value '66200' it works, or if I enter the value '66200, 66201' this works too ('66200, 66201' will return the correct data result).
    However, if I leave the param_id to be blank, I get the error:
    "Failed to retrieve data from the database.
    Details: HY000:(Oracle)(ODBC)(Ora)ORA-00936: missing expression
    (Database Vendor Code: 936 )"
    What I want to try and do is to allow the user to leave the param_id empty and have the SQL query return all ID values by checking if that param_id is empty.
    I understand that I can just add a Value to the param_id to have "ALL" and just let the user select it, but the problem with that is then I will need to have the SQL Query potentially return thousands of data before I can even do the Record Selection - obviously not good on report performance and all.  I do have four (4) other parameters that I am using for the report, with two of them being required Date parameters:
    {?param_startdate}
    {?param_enddate}
    {?param_title}
    {?param_refnum}
    These four parameters are also in the SQL query, and returns with no problem at all:
    WHERE
    and ( {?param_startdate} IS NULL OR {?param_startdate}='' OR table.startdate >= {?param_startdate} )
    and ( {?param_enddate} IS NULL OR {?param_enddate}='' OR table.enddate <= {?param_enddate} +1)
    and ( '{?param_refnum}' IS NULL OR table.refnum= TO_NUMBER('{?param_refnum}') )
    and ( '{?param_title}' IS NULL OR UPPER(table.title) = UPPER('{?param_title}) )
    So, my question is:
    Is there a way to have the param_id be left blank thus allowing the SQL query to return all the ids?
    Any help would be much appreciated... thanks in advance.

    Hi Mohamed,
    Thanks again!  This does the job, but I find that it runs much slower than if I were to have it in the SQL query instead.  I guess there isn't a way to have a check condition in the SQL query instead of having it in the Record Selection?
    I was trying the CASE WHEN in the WHERE clause of the SQL query, but not being a SQL expert, I wasn't successful with this method - I was able to get it to work with one entry, but not multiple values '66200, 66201' or blank (all values))
    WHERE
    and table.ID IN
    (CASE
    WHEN {?param_ID} IS NULL THEN table.ID
    ELSE {?param_ID}
    END)

  • Passing Multiple Values from a worksheet to PL/SQL function.

    Hi All,
    Is there any way to pass multiple values selected in a worksheet to a PL/SQL function ?
    I will try to explain the scenario:
    We have a crosstab report that showing all the customer details, deposit sum of a customer in each date in a date range selected. With the customer details we are showing the Rank of a customer based on the deposit in the latest date selected. Filtering is based on the rank, ie Top50 or Top60 etc.( As I said rank is calculating based on the deposit in the latest date).This is working fine.
    Now the new requirement is to : For example, in Top50 report, list all the customers, who were in the Top50 list, in any of the dates selected. We are able to display the daywise rank, but when giving a condition like daywiserank <= 50, the result becomes uncertain. Some blank lines, wrong amounts etc..
    As a work around we tried to find out the rank in a PL/SQL function. But the issue there is : we have some multiple value parameters used in the worksheet.
    Is there any way to pass multiple values selected in a worksheet to a PL/SQL function ?
    Or any other work arounds for the scenario explained?

    Jeneesh

    Hi Russ,
    Thanks for the response.
    Russ Proudman wrote:
    1. I thought there was an analytical function similar to rank - or maybe an option of rank - that if there are duplicate records to have them all considered the same rank. So if you had 3 records all the same as rank=2 then a condition saying where rank=2 would return the 3 records. You could check into this.
    We are already using DENSE_RANK. But the issue is the output contains incorrect null values nd repeated rows.
    We got it solved as I explained in the previous post. But will that AGGREGATION MODE setting ( Which discoverer says - not recommended) have any issue? I mean side effects?
    Russ Proudman wrote:
    2. Another thought is that you can create a PL/SQL routine - that's called from a SQL function registered in Discoverer - where a table is created that does the first part of your query. Then a worksheet is created to use the data from that table. So, in essence, the table would have your top50 ranked customers. Then you can write any kind of worksheet against that table. However, DBAs are loath to allow tables - that they didn't create! - many times in a PROD environment.
    Here also the same problem will occur: as the top 50 will depend upon the parameters. I cannot pass those parameters to PL/SQL Function.And storing the top50 ( itmay be top100 or to 150 also) for all combinations of the parameters is impossible
    Russ Proudman wrote:
    3. Finally, are you sure you're rank function is correct in that if you're getting blank lines, maybe the 'over' part is not considering all columns needed to determine the rank?
    Yes the query we are using is correct. The output QUERY of discoverer gives correct results in Sqlplus.

  • Jsp portlet multiple select parameters problem

    To whom it may respond to,
    I am trying to get page parameters using :
    String foo = pReq.getParameter("foo");
    It works , but I don't know how to handle something like "String[] foo", that has multiple values to get like url.jsp?foo=1&foo=2&foo=3
    Thank you for your concern,
    Kayhan YÜKSEL

    Thank you, this code segment works :
    String[] store_list = null;String stores= null;
    if( pReq.getParameterValues("stores") != null )
    store_list = pReq.getParameterValues("stores");
    StringBuffer temp = new StringBuffer();
    for (int j = 0; j < store_list.length; j++)
    temp.append(store_list[j]);
    if (j + 1 != store_list.length)
    temp.append(", ");
    stores = temp.toString();

  • Automatically Selecting Values in Multiple Values Dropdown Parameters

    Hi,
    Is it possible to have parameter values automatically selected in a dropdown in an SSRS report?  I'm using SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise edition.  Basically what I have in mind is this:  The user wants to save his parameter selections in a
    table that will be available as a dropdown parameter of a report, call it
    ParamUserSelection.  ParamUserSelection is the first parameter of the report and other parameters depend on it.
    We have two other parameters called ParamCountry and
    ParamState.  These are dropdown text parameters that allow multiple values to be selected.  Populating the list is not a problem as I use a standard cascading parameter technique.  What I'm trying to do is the following:
    The user selects a value from ParamUserSelection, call it Selection1.  Selection1 is stored in a table and has all the values that should be selected in ParamCountry and ParamState.  In other words, it should tell these two subsequent parameters,
    what values should be selected in their respective dropdowns.  For example if the user selects Selection1 from ParamUserSelection, it reads the values in the database table and if it finds US and Canada for countries and CA, NY, ON for states, ParamCountry
    should be populated with all the countries available in the database but should have ONLY US and Canada as selected values and ParamState should be populated with all the states in the database but should have ONLY CA, NY and ON as selected values.
    If then I click on selection 2 and it has ParamCountry = US, ParamState = TX,OH in its database then again all countries and states should be in the dropdown but only US for ParamCountry and TX,OH for ParamState should be selected.
    Is this possible with SSRS?  I've tried using the Default Values tab with a dataset that returns all the selected values under Report Parameters Properties but this only works for the first time that I select ParamUserSelection.  It appears that
    if I change the value of ParamUserSelection again, the default values are not invoked.
    If this is possible, please tell me how to do this as I have been struggling for a day with it.

    Hi Comedian,
    According to your description, you have a report with three parameters (ParamUserSelection, ParamCountry, ParamState). The available value lists of ParamCountry and ParamState are based on the selection of a value for ParamUserSelection. Now you want to
    show all countries and states in their parameter dropdown list when selecting a user selection instead of only showing the cascading values. Right?
    In Reporting Service, when we want a parameter to show the cascading values, we only need to set the corresponding dataset and field for Default Values in this parameter. In this scenario, if we want to show all countries and states in their dropdown list,
    we just need to set another dataset for Available Values in those parameters so they can display all countries and states. We have tested your case in our local environment. Since you have done with the cascading parameters, we just give some part of steps
    and screenshots for your reference:
    We created two tables (dbo.Selection, dbo.states) based on your information.
    Create one more dataset (named dataset2) in your report, put text below into your query:
    select distinct Country from states
    Create another dataset (named dataset3), put text below into your query:
    select distinct State from states
    Go to your ParamCountry, in Available Values, select dataset2 and Country for dataset and field.
    Go to your ParamState, in Available Values, select dataset3 and State for dataset and field.
    Save and preview. It looks like below:

  • How to select multiple values from the parameters in BI Publisher report

    How to select multiple values from the parameter drop down in BI Publisher, and how to handle this mulitple values from the report sql...

    Hi kishore,
    I have used all the steps as you mentioned in your previous reply....including checking Mulitple Selection Check Box..
    Iam able to get the results when I am selecting one value..
    and also I am able to handle multiple values the in the query by using IN :Parameter, but seems when we select more than one value from the parameter drop down i think the Bi Publisher is sending the values in concatenated form something ilke
    ex: "'ACCOUNT','HR','SALES'" ,and when trying to display the parameters values in the output, its throwing the error as 'missing right paranthesis' ....on the whole do you have any solution which would handle
    1.Single selection.
    2.Multiple selection.
    3.'ALL' Values.
    4.Separating the concatenated string into individual strings and dispaly them on the output of the report..etc..in case of Mulitple selection.
    Ex:
    Concatenated String from BI Publisher:"'ACCOUNT','HR','SALES'"
    Expected Output on the report:ACCOUNT,HR,SALES
    reply to this would be much appreciated....

  • How to select multiple values from the Parameters in the concurrent program

    How to select multiple values from the Parameters defined in the concurrent program...and i believe multiple selection is not a direct feature of EBS, but is there any workaround solution to acheive mulitple selection?

    I think there's no way to do that using standard feature.
    Some workaround I use :
    1. If the number of selections are fixed, you could use multiple parameters for the same valueset. For example :
    Selection1 : <choose first selection>
    Selection2: <choose 2nd selection>
    ..etc.
    If you don't use it then leave it empty.
    2. Use text varchar valueset and enter it manually and separate by comma (or other value) , eg : selection1,selection2,selection3....etc.

  • Multiple values in where clause(IN) of select query in Cisco Cloud Portal using single field

    I can actually pass multiple values in the IN statement of select query using multiple dictionary fields in the data retrieval rule of the AFC in Cisco cloud portal like
    #dictionary.field1# = 1 and
    #dictionary.field2#=2
    select col1,col2 from table1 where col3 in (#dictionary.field1#,dictionary.field2#).
    but I want to pass mutiple values in a single field as
    #dictionary.field1#=1,2
    select col1,col2 from table1 where col3 in (#dictionary.field1#) and the query gives no data because it is taking as '1,2' instead of '1','2'.
    Please give the solution for passing multiple values in a single variable to use in IN operator of WHERE clause

    Ok, I now understand what you are trying to do. Unfortunately, you cannot inject parts of a SQL statement into a DDR through a dictionary field, which always represents a specific value (the comma in your case is attempting injection of a SQL construct to refer to multiple values). One possible solution is to arbitrarily consolidate your list of values using a delimiter that you know will not be in the values themselves such as a colon (:). Let's use 3 values as it serves as a better example.
    Set your dictionary field to a single reference to all 3 values of interest, say 'a', 'b', 'c' as:
    :a:b:c:  (you can use javascript to create this consolidated dictionary field)
    Now your query would look something like the following:
    select col1,col2 from table1 where #dictionary.field1t# like '%:'+col3+':%'
    This should achieve the desired result.

    This is a horrible way to return the contents of a table.
    Are you doing this for educational purpose, or ... what is your goal here? If you just want to return a result set to a client you'd want to look in to using a REF CURSOR and not a bunch of arrays combined with horribly procedural (slow) code.

    'sfophiee,angela'
    Thanks and Regards

    Hello Venkat,
    I know there are some problems with 10.1.2.0.2, maybe if you haven't done yet you can try with 10.1.2.2, assuming this version should be working for multiple parameter values :
    OracleAS Discoverer 10.1.2.2 is installed with the following patch :
    Patch 4960210 PLACEHOLDER BUG FOR AS/DS 10G R2 PATCH SET 2 10.1.2.2
    So, once installed you can try adding your parameter as param_<parameter_name>='sfophiee,angela'

  • How to get multiple values using HttpSession.getAttribute(java.lang.String)

    Hey Guys
    I'm trying to find a way to get multiple values using the following method
    HttpSession.getAttribute(java.lang.String)
    Here's the scenerio. Its a already written application and now i'm trying to make some changes. earlier in the jsp page a combo box was used and value was retrieved in the servlet using the getAttribute method of Session. Now I'm using a html multiple selection list and have to retrieve all the values selected in the list in the servlet. Can anyone please suggest me how to do that. HTTPRequest class has a method getParameterValues which will let me do that but i have to do is using HTTPSession.
    Thanks for your time to read this

    I'm not sure what you are trying to do. You can only use session.getAttribute to retrieve something that has already been stored in the session with a previous setAttribute. If you need to store multiple values under one attribute name using setAttribute, you can store an array, or an ArrayList or whatever type of Collection you want. The request.getParameterValues method is the only way you can retrieve form parameters than can have multiple values. If the servlet hasn't already processed these parameters and put them into the session for you, you have to use request.getParameterValues.

  • Printing report that has a parameter with multiple values crashes jvm

    I am using BOE XI 4.0 as an unmanaged RAS.
    I am able to preview a report that has a string discrete parameter that can have multiple values.  If I give it a single value.  It previews fine.  If I give it an empty string it prints all values which is fine.  If I give it two discrete values, it displays just those two.
    However, if I try printing the report to a printer:
    1 parameter value - prints fine.
    2 parameter values - crashes jvm
    empty string parameter value - crashes jvm
    I would appreciate some direction on how to do this.  It works in crystal reports for eclipse.
    The test jsp I am using is based off of the samples.  The print test jsp is the same as the preview test with the exception of the following code differences.:
    preview report.jsp code
    // Create a Viewer object
    CrystalReportViewer viewer = new CrystalReportViewer();
    // Set the report source for the  viewer to the ReportClientDocument's report source
    viewer.setReportSource(clientDoc.getReportSource());
    // Process the http request to view the report
    viewer.processHttpRequest(request, response, getServletConfig().getServletContext(), out);
    // Dispose of the viewer object
    viewer.dispose();
    print report jsp code
      PrintReportOptions printOptions = new PrintReportOptions();
      printOptions.setPrinterName("DELL");
      try {
          clientDoc.getPrintOutputController().printReport(printOptions);
      } catch (ReportSDKException ex1) {
          System.out.println("Message - " + ex1.getLocalizedMessage());

    // Create a Viewer object
    CrystalReportViewer viewer = new CrystalReportViewer();
    // Set the report source for the  viewer to the ReportClientDocument's report source
    viewer.setReportSource(clientDoc.getReportSource());
    // Process the http request to view the report
    viewer.processHttpRequest(request, response, getServletConfig().getServletContext(), out);
    // Dispose of the viewer object
    viewer.dispose();
    print report jsp code
      PrintReportOptions printOptions = new PrintReportOptions();
      printOptions.setPrinterName("DELL");
      try {
          clientDoc.getPrintOutputController().printReport(printOptions);
      } catch (ReportSDKException ex1) {
          System.out.println("Message - " + ex1.getLocalizedMessage());
      } catch (Exception ex2) {
          System.out.println("Message - " + ex2.getLocalizedMessage());
      clientDoc.close();
