"Must Be An Administrator"

Let me just say I am so thankful that I am not the only one experiencing difficulty with this new iTunes download.
I have an iPod Touch and /had/ a very reliable version of iTunes. A few days ago, while trying to update to the newest version, the installation froze after iTunes was uninstalled. Just today, I attempted to reinstall iTunes through Apple.com, an experience that proved more frustrating. As the only user of my HP Pavilion laptop, I am the mandatory administrator of the device. According to the iTunes installer, I am not. "iTunes cannot install. Please log in as an adminstrator and restart installation."
Is this just a bug in the installation process, or is there a more serious problem?

I was also having the same problem - access errors during the installation of the lates 9.0.3 itunes. I uninstalled all Apple apps (even failed installs will leave many apps - uninstall via Control Panel-Programs), then rebooted as a precautionary measure, then ran the setup file for the previous version of itunes (9.0.2.25 x64) as an administrator. Take note I was not successful until I agreed to install the Apple Update Software. Then it took 2 tries of running the setup file, but I was eventually succesful. I am nervous to try downloading and installing the latest iphone software. I will not allow the upgrade again for itunes or iphone until I see that these problems have been fixed.

  • After upgrade to 3.6.6, firefox must run as administrator

I'm running firefox on Vista. I just upgraded to 3.6.6. I had to log in to my admin account in order to do the upgrade. After the upgrade, in my normal working account, I must run as admin or firefox simply hangs and attempts to load the page for ever.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == I upgraded to 3.6.6

Does anyone know how to fix this problem???

  • Itunes must "run as administrator"

Just recently iTunes, installed on Windows 7, wont start if it is not runned as administrator.
The consequence is also that it cannot synchronise aTV, since this also seems to collide with the needs for Admin rights.
The user account has admin priviledges.
    Any suggestions?

I see this is an older post originally that was replied to recently on Nov 18. I also had this problem today and found that "Run as Administrator" fixed the problem to an extent. If I minimized iTunes to the taskbar player, it would not function and would require me to restart iTunes. I found the solution to my problem at: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_programs/itun es-application-could-not-be-opened-you-do-not/610864d3-b8ba-44f0-bad6-1c5e49b7e0 0b
My problem was not iTunes. It was Media Center. I changed the libraries included in it and it changed the permissions to my music folder. iTunes couldn't access it without the elevated admin permissions, so it had the issue. I went through the C: drive to my music folder and re-established permission and iTunes works perfectly again. Maybe this can help others as well, as I personally did not like the idea of having to run admin all the time like this.

  • Bridge must not require administrator rights

Under Windows XP SP2, Bridge 1.0.4 requires the user to be an administrator in order to make the Find command operational. When invoking Find as an ordinary user, Bridge will always return an empty result set. Only when executing Bridge as an administrator, Find will work smoothly.
Please make Bridge's Find command work for ordinary non-admin users, too.

  • System Preparation Tool Must be Administrator

    Hello,
I am attempting to run the System Preparation Tool with Windows 8.1 Enterprise x86 on an Asus T100TA. I have all of my drivers and software I want already installed on my image.
But I am unable to run the Sysprep through the UI or Command Prompt, even though I am in the Audit Mode's Administrator account. What options are there? I already had to reinstall twice after leaving the tablet on overnight and wasn't able to get back into
the Administrator account. I get the "You must be an administrator to run this application" message.
    Thanks,
    Zach

    Hi Zach,
I did some tests on my machines and it took some time. I apologize for that.
I found the following rights are needed to run sysprep.exe:
    •Back up files and directories
    •Modify firmware environment values
    •Restore files and directories
    •Shutdown the system
I got following error message in setuperr.log if one of the rights that are essential for running Sysprep.exe have been removed, even I am already in Administrator account.
2014-12-18 19:49:34, Error      [0x0f0053] SYSPRP ValidateUser:User does not have required privileges to sysprep machine

Please use the Local Security Settings tool to check the user rights assignments first.
    Click Start, click Run, type
    secpol.msc, and then click OK.
In the Local Security Settings window, expand
Local Policies, and then double-click User Rights Assignment.
Look through the list of user rights and verify that the Administrators group has the rights that are needed to run Sysprep.exe.
If you need to add a right, double-click the right, and then click Add.
In Select Users or Groups, click Administrator, and then click
    Add.
Click OK twice to add Administrator to the list of users who have that right.
Note: If the policy that removed the necessary rights from the Administrators group is set at the Domain, Site, or Organizational Unit level, you need to modify the Group Policy
    of the domain.

  • "Network-related or instance specific error", Works OK for Administrator

I've been handed a legacy .Net Windows application that was previously used on Windows XP, and asked to debug a few problems encountered on Windows 7 clients.  The original developers are all gone.  I'm down to only a single
error -- a seemingly common one:
"A network related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing
a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not
accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server
is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes
Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)"
Curiously, this error only occurs for ordinary users.  When the application is started using "Run as Administrator" it connects to the database immediately.  We believe we can configure the app to always start as an administrator,
but obviously we'd like to run it without that if we can.  However, I haven't seen any good suggestions why the database connection would only fail this one way.
Any ideas?  I've seen at least one troubleshooting guide that suggested trying with Run as Administrator, but it didn't say how to proceed if that fixes it.  Am I just supposed to stop at this point?  If I was having a UI problem I might understand
that some old apps just aren't going to work in Windows 7, but this is just connecting to the database.  Seems like we should be able to do this.  I just don't know what to check.
    Thanks in advance.
    EDIT:
I have looked more closely at this, and perhaps there are more clues.  I use the same user account to log on to two Win7 machines. One is a developer workstation with VS10 installed. The other is representative of a client workstation the app will
run on. My user account is actually an administrator on both machines.
At runtime we invoke advapi32.dll logonuser impersonation to logon to SQL server with a dedicated account.
What we're seeing is that I can run the app freely on the developer workstation.  Even with UAC on, and even if I am not using "run as administrator".  This may point to something about how the SQL drivers/provider are installed
    on that machine.
When I run on the regular user workstation, even though I am an administrator myself, I must "run as administrator" to launch it. And when I do, I get a UAC prompt.  When we turn UAC off, of course, the app runs fine.

    Hi,
I think you are in the similar case with:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2009672
By default SSIS always uses the low privileged token resulting in a failure when connecting to a SQL Destination. Full administrator access token is required in your case.
Unlike earlier versions of Windows, when an administrator logs on to a computer running Windows 7 or Windows Vista, the user’s full administrator access token is split into two access tokens:
a full administrator access token and a standard user access token.
During the logon process, authorization and access control components that identify an administrator are removed, resulting in a standard user access token. The standard user access token is then used to start the desktop, the Explorer.exe process. Because
all applications inherit their access control data from the initial launch of the desktop, they all run as a standard user.
After an administrator logs on, the full administrator access token is not invoked until the user attempts to perform an administrative task. When a standard user logs on, only a standard user access token is created. This standard user access token is then
    used to start the desktop.
To get around this, you may configure an application to always run elevated.

  • Administrator's name and password - unable to make changes

I just bought my Macbook about two weeks ago, created a administrator name and password, and it worked just fine. However, for the past couple of days, I'm noticing that I cannot make any changes with Software Updates because when I type in the (CORRECT) name and password, the window says "You must type an administrator's name and password to make changes to Software Update. Please try again." Yes, I've BEEN typing the correct name/password. I've tried resetting the password which works fine, but when it comes to inputting it into a window, my macbook doesn't seem to read what I type in. Does anyone know what is going on here? Please help....

    Reply to maurobras.
Seems to me that you have the lost admin problem. One of Leopard'd little ways I have experienced myself. That is the subject of many posts here. Situation (if I am correct in my supposition) is not that you have entered a wrong password, but that what you thought, and what had been till then, was a password of an administrator was not because Leopard had downgraded that user to a non admin.
Look up ' lost administartor' or such in the postings. Put the Leopard install DVD into the machine when booted up.>>>Restart holding down C key. This boots from the install disk. Do not install but look into the menus for the 're set password' option.>>> Choose to re set the root password>>> Write down a good PW for root and write it down.>>>Reset the root password>>>Close the DVD and log in as root with said PW.>>>As root go to System Preferences>>Open the little lock and choose the account that should be an admin>>tick the little box 'allow to administer..'>>>log out of root>>>log in as admin>>open application Directory Utility>> choose to disable root (a safety procedure). You should find now in Sys Prefs that the account IS an admin. Some have found problems getting an option to disable in Directory Utility in that case there is a aTerminal command, disenable root, that works. Make sure of syntax in any Terminal command. Look up man disenable.

  • Unable to open firefox if not administrator

After a Firefox upgrade, none of the other users on my machine can use it, only the administrator. What gives?

  • Not recognized as an administrator

I've spent the past 2 hours working on getting the finder to work (because of the DivXNetworks folder issue many people are having), and I've gotten the finder working now BUT I cannot edit any system preferences on any account on my machine.
When I click the lock to make changes on a system preferences section it asks for a password (which i enter correctly, and then says "You must type an administrator's name and password to make changes to System Preferences." This is my admin account on the machine, and my only admin account on the machine. What can i do to edit my system preferences when its telling me I'm not an admin?
Also, in the accounts pane it shows my admin account as "Standard" and other accounts as "Managed" which is what i think it showed with 10.4.
Also, after looking further into it, I can select my account and see that "Allow user to administer this computer" is unchecked. How can I fixed this?

  • How can I make myself Administrator?

I have just purchased a used netgear media player which is hooked up to my hdtv. Everything went smoothly, except:
    (1) When designating sharing folders it would not let me do it. The wording goes:
"There was an error while attempting to share media folders. Authorization failed. You must be an administrator to share folders."
I thought I was the administrator of my own macbook! What am I doing wrong?
    (2) When I tried saving files to the netgear's 500 internal hard drive it came up with the following:
"Connection failed. There was an error connecting to the server 192.168.5.72. Check the server name or IP address, and then try agai. If you are unable to resolve the problem contact your system administrator."
    (3) I tried accessing my macbook but it said:
"No accessible PCs found. To activate this feature, install digital entertainer (this is the netgear) Windows software cd on a computer on this network."
Well I did install the software using the mac installer from the cd. So I don't know what is happening there.
    To recap:
    (1) How can I make myself the administrator of my own macbook.
    (2) How do I get my mac to recognize the netgear. Do I have to change the IP address? If so, how?
    (3) Why isn't the netgear able to connect with my macbook? The netgear is supposed to be able to connect to Windows and Mac computers.
I realize this is a complicated enquiry, but I am keen to get this thing going. It recognizes my wifi and is able to connect to the internet ... just not my macbook which is on the network. I think it all hinges on the sharing folders issue.

Once you've inserted the disc and it's mounted on the desktop select "Restart" from the menu bar (under the Apple icon in the upper left hand corner). Right after you've selected Restart hold down the C key. Hold it down until the little progress circle appears. At this point you'll be booted from that disc. Select your language and continue into the boot process. From there you should be able to follow the rest of the instructions that Douglas linked to.

  • Administrator to standard user.OOPS

Accidentally changed  my user settings to standard,.i cant find a way to get it back to administrator. my computer wont allow me to make any changes. to get it back to the administrator, i no longer have permission.  it wont even allow me
to go back to an earlier time,  I have windows 7 ultimate with the alienware , Help

    Hi,
Yes, like GTS-NJ said, You must provide the administrator to change it back and make changes for computer.
The only choice for you is to check if the built-in administrator is enabled if that account you have changed to standard user is the unique administrator account.
If the built-in administrator is unfortunately disabled, no method unless reinstall your Windows.

  • Full true Administrator Privileges and rights for New User?

I am wondering how to grant full administrator privileges to a newly created user?
    Here is the environment:
    Windows 2012 Server 64bit
Not part of a domain <WORKGROUP>
    Here is the problem:
I created a new user we will call them "SecondaryAdmin", and made them part of "Administrators" group as well as the "Remote Desktop Users" group.
I login through an RDP session as "SecondaryAdmin", I go to a command prompt, and I run IISRESET and it tells me:
"Access denied, you must be an administrator of the remote computer to use this command. Either have your account added to the administrator local group of the remote computer or to the domain administrator global group."
Additionally, I have IE Enhanced Security turned off, but if I open Internet Explorer while logged in as "SecondaryAdmin" it still displays the IE Enhanced Security warnings.
Also, if I try to copy a file to the root "C:\", it gives me "Access denied error" forcing me to continue with elevated administrator privileges.
If I run the command prompt as "administrator" I can do an IISRESET without error.
If I run Internet Explorer as "administrator" I do not get the warnings.
If I run windows explorer as "administrator" I do not get the access denied.
However, I WOULD NOT trust this "SecondaryAdmin" account to install ANYTHING. Even if you ran the install executable as "admin", often times these install files will fire off secondary scripts that wont be fired off as "admin",
which may lead to incomplete or corrupt installs.
This changed from Windows 2008 R2 to Windows 2012.... If I do the same exact thing in Windows 2008, I am able to do all the above things without prompt or error.
So how can I give a new user true, full, elevated, admin privileges without having to run everything as administrator? Some obscure setting in GPO? Some registry setting (already tried LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy)?
    What I have tried:
    UAC is OFF
    Firewall is OFF
    IE Enhanced Security is OFF
    Remote Management/Desktop Enabled
User part of Administrators Group and Remote Desktop Group
Used "netplwiz" to verify user is Administrator
    Please help!

    Hi Chris,
I appreciate your answers, however, this is not what I am looking for.
I want the "SecondaryAdmin" user, who is part of the Local Admininstrator group, to have full Admin access.
I DO NOT want them to have to do anything special, or have any user intervention.
    NO yes/no dialog boxes
    NO clicking "Run As Admininstrator"
NO changing shortcuts or executable file properties to always "Run as Admin"
I simply want the "SecondaryAdmin" account, which is part of the "Administrators" group, to have the same access and run the same seamless way it did in 2008 R2, with no user intervention required.
This is what I am looking for.
    Kind Regards,
    James

  • Administrator password not accepted

    Please help!
My administrator password is not accepted. When trying to delete an internet plugin, I was prompted for my administrator password. I entered it in but I was greeted with 'You must type an administrator's name and password to make changes in finder' it did not tell me that my password was incorrect. I tried again a couple of times without any luck.
I have fiddled about and found that I can change my password and the hint in system preferences but it still always comes up with the same message when I try to make any other amendments.
I then installed my leopard disk, restarted the computer and held the 'C' key. this gave me the opportunity to change the password, which I did. I still got the same message when I attempted to make any changes.
After a couple of attempts of completely changing the password with the Leopard disc, I tried using the Tiger disk that came with the computer when I bought it. This has really messed it up because I now cannot get to the installation set up after holding the C key down during start up on either version of OS. It just sarts up normally.
What have I done? Any hints as to how to get i back to normal??

I have just found out what I did wrong. Somehow I had inadvertently changed my administrator to the 'System Administrator' account which was not visible in system preferences. When I did suss this out i easily managed to change my account back to an administrator. Phew!
