Must *.fpj file be checked out exclusive?
RH9, RH9 Server, WebHelp Pro, TFS source control
We are two authors working on a project. When one of us attempts to create a project, TFS blocks it saying that the project .fpj file must be checked out exclusive in order to create a topic.
Of course we can solve the problem by one of us checking it in so the other can create a topic. But should this really be necessary?
Hi,
The *.fpj files are located in each folder in the project. If you add a topic, RoboHelp adds a link to the topic in the .fpj file so it knows which topics are part of the project. The same goes for the .hhc, which holds the TOC. If you want to modify the file, you need to check it out. I don't think RoboHelp supports multiple check out, but I may be wrong.
If the TOC is a problem, you can create multiple TOC's in the project and merge them in the default TOC. When you check out one of the TOCs, the other can continue working with the other TOC's. Nothing to do about the .fpj.

NWDI Issue - Cannot checkout missing file that was checked out exclusively
Hello, I'm getting error when I try to edit a file (mdmapi_assembly.pp) on my project.
This file was checked out exclusively on another computer, that's does not exist anymore (even it's owner lol).
This error appear on DTR Console:
EDIT (FAILED: server response: Conflict [(pre||post)-condition failed: x:cannot-checkout-exclusively-checkedout-resource]) mdmapi_assembly.pp (C:\......\_comp\def\mdmapi_assembly.pp)
Anyone can help me?
Thanks anyway!Hi Julio,
I think that some one created an activity on this specific componet and left it open. It looks like that activity never check-in. To make sure this please log on to Component Build Service>>Now select your build space and compartment>> now click on Pending activities.
See if there are any pending activites left? if there are , if you can, request basis to delete the open activity if it is not useful and nobody was using it. Sync the latest version and it shopuld allow to create a new activity. If there are no pending activites and you still see the same error then delete the project and configurations from the local NWDS. Reimport the configurations from the Development configurations perspective, and try create a project for the specific DC and try creating an activity,
Thanks

How to get "ShareWithMe" files with "check out" status?
Hello All,
I was working on try to get "ShareWithMe" documents via SharePoint 2103 Query APIS with CSOM and REST service.
Practically it works good using the "SharedWithUsersOWSUSER"
manage property from this way:
https://domain-my.sharepoint.com/_api/search/query?querytext='*'&querytemplate='SharedWithUsersOWSUser:"someone"
But, this search query is not working for files that has been set up to "check out", I
mean this scenary :
e.g
I upload a new file to my documents.
Check out the file.
Share this file with someone.
I could verify that "SharedWithUsersOWSUser" property has a empty value for check out files that has been shared with someone, and this it will be the reason for what the query displayed above is not working in this case.
an extra test that I did it was : change the file shared from "check out" to "check in" and then the query it worked as expected.
Is there some way to get also these files(with "check out" status) ? I can see that it works very well on OneDrive for business - "ShareWithMe" page, I mean all files that it were shared with the current user are listed there, without to
take into account if these files it were set up to check out or not. Please, some suggestion ?When the file is checked out and metadata is changed while it is checked out the search crawler will not pick up the change until it is checked in. When you make changes to a file while it is checked out they are considered temporary changes until they
are checked in.

Check-out Exclusive and Check-out Nonexclusive
Hi,
When we check out a record exclusively or non-exclusively why is the 'Modify Join Permissions' option active(not disabled).According to my understanding,if we make check-out non-exclusive, without modifying join permission,all the other users must be able to 'Join checkout'.If it is exclusive we have to assign user and role who can Join Checkout it.Then why is the 'Modify Join Permission' option coming for non-exclusive checkout also.Apart from my understanding is there any other difference between the two.Please help me in clarifying this.
Thanks and Regards,
PreethiHi,
(1) Exclusive, which grants join permissions to no other roles or users (by default, no other users can join the checkout); and
(2) Nonexclusive, which grants join permissions to the Everyone role (by default, all users can join the checkout).
Instead of checking in the duplicate record, the owner can use the Roll Backcommand to delete the duplicate and abandon changes.
You can use the All Versions command to display both versions (originals and duplicates) of all checked out records. This is the only way for other users to join the check out of new records.
You can use role-based privileges to decide whether owners and/or non-owners are permitted to check in, roll back, or modify join permissions of checked out records.

Files show checked out in RSC but not in RH7
I had originally posted to the RH for HTML category but after
thinking about it a little further it may be more appropriate to
this board.
Hello, and thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
I'm running RH7 on XP and we use RoboSource Control as well.
I have been off this project for a while and another writer was
working the project. I can't say if work flow has anything to do
with this issue but FYI.
I tried to edit a topic and it said it could not be checked
out "multiply," even though it was not checked out in my project. I
looked at RSC and it showed check out along with many other topics.
I tried editing a topic and then clicking "Check In All" and
nothing changed. I can check some of them in using RSC but some say
"not checked out" even though the red check mark is in place.
When I right click an entry in RSC and click CHECKIN, the
dialog (CHECKIN) that opens says "nothing to check in." But if I
click OK, a "Resolve Ambiguous Checkin" dialog opens with that
topics file name listed. I click OK and the red check mark is
cleared.
There are a lot of topics and I'd like to figure out how to
check them in as a group if possible, and also why this may be
happening.
Again, thanks for any info you can provide.
Regards
JoeThanks Leon. I have been able to manually get all but a few
files checked back in using the process I described in my first
post. Most of the remaining appear to have been deleted from the
"client side" and still resided in RSC as checked in, so I'm going
to delete those in RSC. But three files are still in the project,
and the Resolve Ambiguous Checkin has nothing listed if I try the
right-click, CheckIn, OK, etc
I was hoping there was a specific reason, or action, that
explained how or why these ended up in the checked out state. I do
think it's a work flow issue of some sort and wanted to be able to
explain to the other user.
After I reopen the projects and see whether all of this has
caused any problems or not, I'll post the results good or
bad. -
Applying some icon when file is checked out
hi,
I am using JDeveloper Studio Edition Version 11.1.1.6.0
for file checkout operation i have performed following set of Operation
String myFileToEdit = null;
byte[] fileData;
ServiceResponse myServiceResponse = null;
mainContentOperation = new MainContentOperations();
try{
IdcClient myIdcClient = Util.getInstance().getUCMConnection();
String username = Util.getInstance().getCurrentUser().toString();
IdcContext myIdcContext = new IdcContext(username);
DataBinder myRequestDataBinder = myIdcClient.createBinder();
myRequestDataBinder.putLocal("IdcService", "CHECKOUT");
myRequestDataBinder.putLocal("dID", myId);
myRequestDataBinder.putLocal("dDocName", myContentId);
myServiceResponse = myIdcClient.sendRequest(myIdcContext, myRequestDataBinder);
/* myResponseDataBinder = myServiceResponse.getResponseAsBinder();
DataObject myDataObject = myResponseDataBinder.getLocalData();
System.out.println("File checked out successfully");
int intReportedFileSize =
Integer.parseInt(myServiceResponse.getHeader("Content-Length"));
int intRetrievedFileSize = 0;
InputStream myInputStream = null;
InputStreamReader myInputStreamReader = null;
try {
myInputStream = myServiceResponse.getResponseStream();
if(myInputStream==null) {
System.out.println("MYINPUTSTREAM IS NULL");
myInputStreamReader = new InputStreamReader(myInputStream,"UTF-8");
int numSize = myInputStream.available();
fileData = new byte[numSize];
while(numSize > 0) {
int result = myInputStream.read(fileData);
if(result == -1)
break;
out.write(fileData);
out.flush();
now if i want same icon on document which is checked Out , how can i do it
RegardsThis could be achieved with the custom component which will modify how Content server displays search result or other page with content info. For the correct method of inserting icon I would look into the way how Records Management add, inside document title, specific icon for records.

Best practice for checking out a file
Hello,
What is the SAP best practice to check out a file? (DTR -> EDit or DTR -> Edit Exclusive?)
What are pros and cons of checking out a file exclusively?
Thanks
MLSThanks Pascal.
Also, I think if a developer checks out exclusively, makes changes and leaves the company without checking in, the only way is to revert those files in which case all his changes will be gone. -
Red ticks in checked out files
Are these red (instead of green) because another 'user' has
not checked them back in before I check them out?
I actually transfer my files between machines so the check
data must be in the files somehow.
Are there any dangers doing it this way?They indicate that those files are checked out by another
user and have not
been checked back in. As I said, if you are the only user,
this will become
a big annoyance in a hurry.

CR files are automatically checked out (with Visual Source Safe 2005)
Dear CR Support,
i have a strange problem. Every time i open my solution in V.S. 2008 (V.B.) all my CR files are checked out automatically.
I must do "Undo Check Out" every time.
I Use:
Visual Basic 2008
Crystal Reports 2008
Visual Source Safe 2005
For any extra information, please let me know.
Thank you in advance.
Best Regards,
Navarino Technology Department.Dear Don hello,
sorry for that.
I have made some tests and i notice the followings:
I'm working in a CR file in design mode. I make the changes that i want, i click save and then "Check In" in order the changes to be saved in VSS. If i Don't "close" the CR File (the open tab of Visual Studio) the CR file stays "Open" in design mode. If i right click over the tab of the CR and click "close", the CR closes. This is what i mean "Open" and "Closed" file.
- When i open the solution with the crystal reports files open (design window open), the files are checked out automatically.
- When i open the solution with closed the reports, i have no problem. But if i try to open (in design mode) the crystal reports files, the report is checked out automatically (this is not happening to all reports).
I will try to reinstall the SP2 again.
Is there any newer Patch after the SP2, in order to install it?
Thank you for your reply.
Best regards,

Editing XMP metadata in Bridge for checked-out files?
Our custom connector does not implement the WRITE_XMP_METADATA Capability because we do not want to change the XMP of a file in our DAM system without checking in a new file version.
However, when a file is checked out through Adobe Drive, we would expect to be able to edit its XMP metadata in Bridge just like we can for local files.
It looks like this is still not possible with Adobe Drive 3, i.e. if your connector does not implement the WRITE_XMP_METADATA Capability you cannot edit XMP for checked out files either.
It seems weird that you can edit XMP metadata for checked out files with regular CS applications but not with Bridge. Is this something that is expected to be fixed in a future version?
ThanksIn our design, editing XMP data in Bridge and in regular CS applications is different, the former one will be routed to SetXMPHandler in you connector, in the latter case, CS applications take the normal file writting ways to embed XMP data in the file content.
The purpose of this design is to offer similar user experience for normal users when they edit XMP data for AD assets and local file assets, they don't need to check-out files first.
To address your issue, I think you can add some codes in SetXMPHandler to auto check-out files before real XMP operation, and check-in them before exiting the handler
We will consider to make some enhancements for this part, that's, to allow editng XMP data for the checked-out files in Br, in the next release, thanks for this advice. -
How to handle check-out files of users that are no longer with the company?
We have cases that files were checked out and modified, but the engineers left before they check-in the files. What's the right way to handle such cases? Does the project admin have right to check-in for the engineers? How can we make another person to
check the files in?Hi Peter,
Thanks for your post.
Do you want check-in that files within the changes which that left engineer created to TFS Server? If yes, you need logon that engineer’s client using his account, then get modified files on this client and perform check-in.
If you don’t need that changes which modified by that left engineer, just the check-out files on this client caused other users cannot work on that files, you can ask the team project admin user to perform
tf undo command on that files to resolve this checked-out issue.
For example, the files be checked-out under workspace1, so execute this command “tf undo $/xx/xx(file path)
/collection:collectionURL /workspace:workspace1 /recursive” to undo it

SharePoint and FrameMaker 10 CMS/Integration - Checked Out Files Stuck
Hello,
I originally set up the CMS connection to my SharePoint through FrameMaker using the domain name as a part of the user name (as suggested in a previous post), but have still run into this same issue discussed in that post, (unalterably locked files), and have been completely unable to resolve it.
When I check out a file, it gets "stuck" in that checked-out/locked state, and I'm unable to edit, check in, or discard my check out. The only thing I'm still able to do is view the files as "Open (Read only)," and delete the files.
I've even tried to access the files through the SharePoint site itself (as well as through SharePoint Workspace) in an attempt to check the files back in, but this command only returns an error about the files being checked out to a local draft, or one claiming the file may not even be checked out in the first place, etc. The only thing I seem to be able to do is delete the files from the server.
Thus far, I've been completely unable to use this tool.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? I'm at a loss.
Thank you,
CarolynHello Vimal -
Thanks so much for your reply.
The login name that I used to connect to the SharePoint repository is in the format DomanName\EmployeeNumber. However, in the "Modified By" field of the Properties dialog, my full name is listed (last name, first name). Attempting to log in with the credentials DomainName\Full Name (as listed in the properties dialog) results in an error message reading: "The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized".
Working outside of FrameMaker's CMS, i am indeed able to upload, check out, edit, and check in files successfully. The problem, however, with working with the files from outside of FrameMaker itself, is that SharePoint doesn't understand file dependencies upon upload. So, when I open a checked out *.book file from the server, it cannot locate the individual (also checked out) chapter *.fm files necessary to edit the document - which means I can only work with these files through FrameMaker. And, it's only within FrameMaker's CMS that I'm running into an inability to check documents back in or edit them. Bummer...
Thanks again for responding. Any ideas welcome!

Visual Source Safe keeps checking out my .cs file associated with a report
Hello there.
I am new in this community and I need some help. I am part of a team that works with Crystal Reports under .NET framework and we are using Ms Visual Source Safe. Any time we open a solution (.sln file) all .cs files associated with a Crystal report are checked out. This, of course, drives all of us crazy. If I try to delete the .cs file, it is added automatically. And we could not find any solution to this problem.
I compared the 2 .cs files (before and after check out) and the indeed differ. The namespace , to be more specific is different.
I believe the problem is that we are using a separate project that contains the report files and then those .rpt files are added as links to the main project.
So ... my question is... is there anyway I can tell Sourcesafe or Crystal report or any other program, application or person to stop checking out my .cs files or stop modifying them?
Thank you.Hello Don.
Thank you for your answer.
It seems I have SP1 already installed. I am referencing the following files with versions in my report project:
CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine v12.0.2000.0
CrystalDecisions.Enterprise.Framework v12.0.1100.0
CrystalDecisions.Enterprise.InfoStore v12.0.1100.0
CrystalDecisions.ReportSource v12.0.2000.0
I personally believe that the problem is with the link files.
To be more exact, I have several projects (csproj) that handle all reports and report loading. I also have several applications that refer these projects (not all in the same time). Because all .rpt files are loaded at runtime, I made these files Embedded resources and I created a folder in the main projects named Reports where I added all .rpt files as links.
When I open main application A solution, all .cs files associated with the .rpt files are checked out (the namespace is modified to A).
When I open main application B solution, all .cs files associated with the .rpt files are checked out (the namespace is modified to B).
And so on.
And since we are a team of several developers working with all main applications, this is rather annoying.
I hope this presents my situation a little more clear.
Any ideas?
Thanks again -
File open in native program, only if it is checked out in sharepoint
File associations
If .jph(xml file) file is checked-out in sharepoint, then file opens in native program exe on click on file link in sharepoint.
But if file is not cheked out, then on click it opens xml in browser.
I want file to be open in native progaram, on click on file link
Kindly suggest.
JagadishHello,
If checkin/checkout is enabled for library then file is in read mode until you check it out. You may try one thing, just go to library settings-->advanced settings-->open file in client if it is set to browser.

Question about deletion of checked out file using CMIS connector
When testing file deletion with Adobe Drive connected to an implementation of CMIS server, I ran into some mildly unexpected behavior for when the file is checked out.
I successfully checked out a file through Adobe Drive then deleted the file. Our server has a constraint that checked out files are protected against deletions, renaming, and moves. So, I was expecting the operation to fail. Instead, the result was that the file had its check out canceled.
In the AtomPub binding, a cancel check out is specified by deleting the pwc version of the the checked out file. So, this behavior did not strike me as too far off my expectations and I confirmed that the objectid in the deletion request sent by Adobe Drive was the id for pwc version of the file.
Is this behavior intentional? Or is this an artifact of the way Adobe Drive caches the objectid of files? Check out requests do return an objectid and that objectid is that of the new pwc version of the file. So, the later behavior would not surprise me.
ThanksHi,
Yes, this behavior is intentional.
To bypass the possible constraint during deleting a checked-out file, Adobe Drive intentionally try to cancel check out this file by deleting the pwc version of the checked-out file.

Gang
