Muxing files

I have a HDV project, exported using Compressor, which leaves me with a m2v video file and an aiff audio file. I need to bring them together to create a .ts file, and understand MPEG Streamclip can do this, but can not figure it out. I realize this is probably off-topic, so apologies in advance, and any help would be appreciated.

Not off topic at all Steve.
so you want to create a mpeg transport stream, correct (muxed .m2v and .aif audio)?
first off, comrpessor cannot do this, it will give you a mpeg half resolution (not half d1) file.
mpegstreamclip CAN do this, but not like you think. you would first need a file that is already muxed, THEN mpegstreamclip can CONVERT that file INTO a .ts file. mpegstreamclip will NOT mux it for you.
if you want a muxer (yes, their are very specific apps for this), then i would recommend this: http://www.lilapple.com/mp2tsms.html . of cource, only if you do this kind of thing often or if you need VERY specific control over the TS parameters.
if not, i would recommend you author a VERY simple project (first play to video, play once) in DVDSP and then mux it. then, look in your VIDEO_TS folder and locate "VTS011.VOB". finally take that file into mpegstreamclip and THEN you click on MPEG Streamclip > File > Convert to TS.
of course you will not have much control over PID's and such, but it is a quick fix.

  • Mpeg2 issue ---- muxed files

I'm having an issue with my Quicktime Pro with the MPEG2 plugin.
When I open this file format: MPEG2 Muxed, 480 x 360, 29.97 FPS, it plays the first few seconds then freezes the frame. The audio still goes on but I have no picture.
Now on the website for the MPEG2 plugin, it says that QT will play MPEG2 files muxed and all, but it's not for some reason ^_^ And also I want to pull those files into iMovie HD (iLife 05) and it doesn't want to pull in the files either.
I have found that Toast will actually make me a DVD no questions asked, but I'm looking to edit the videos. They play in VLC fine and will transfer over to MGEG4 alright, from VLC, but the more I step on the footage and compress and recompress, the crappier my video looks on the TV.
Can anyone help me find out how to get my stuff to play or be able to edit with-out all this recompression? Right now I have to convert to .mp4, insert into iMovie, fix, export to iDVD and compress back into an MPEG2 DVD friendly. Or....go from .mpg to BitVice and try to edit in iMovie with .m2v when it just mysteriously doesn't want to work this time with .mp4.
I'm getting a little frustrated! Can you please help? Thank you!!

I have found that Toast will actually make me a DVD no questions asked, but I'm looking to edit the videos.
What kind of editing do you wish to do? If all you need is limited editing capabilities (e.g., trimming segments, cropping and/or scaling, adjusting the volume, brightness, contrast, and/or saturation), then a free application like MPEG Streamclip (woring in conjunction with the MPEG-2 component which you already have) may be all you need. Note however, that if you wish to work entirely withing the MPEG "muxed" file format, you will be limited to just trimming your segments and saving them. Other editing capabilities mentioned are usually performed as part of a conversion process. If you wish to perform more complex edits, apply special effects and or mix the media with phtographs, music, add transitions and/or fades, etc,. then you can use this application to convert both audio and video to either a continuous DV stream (compatible with the current version of iMovie) or segmented DV streams (compatible with older versions of iMovie).

  • MPEG1 muxed files

I have music files that are MPEG1 muxed files, but I don't know how to separate the video and audio.
I have Windows XP, so FFmpeg and BBDemux wont work.
I've tried using some softwares such as DGIndex and Videora, but still wont work.
    What should i do?

if your trying to convert videos then the video format only supprted by the ipod is .mov or .mp4 no other format is supported by the ipod. To convert the video successfuully the best results for windows users hasbenn using videora.
    Remember:
this software is not supported by apple so with any support or questions you have go to their support forums for help not here. All the links are below and this is a good solution for windows users.

  • Mpeg 1 Muxed files

I understand that when you import "muxed files", (I have no idea what that means) you only get the video, no audio. I have some Quicktime movies like this. Is there a way I can change the format of the file so I get the audio too?

MPEG Streamclip (free) can export muxed files to QuickTime formats and include the audio.

  • Exporting Muxed Files in Quicktime Pro 7 w/ MPEG-2 Component

I have .mpg files I need to be able to get into iDVD. They are MPG-2 muxed files. I have quicktime pro and the mpeg-2 component. I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this. Everyway I try either fails halfway through or I get no audio. I've trying to convert them to Mpeg-4. The answer is probably easy but I am new to Mac. any help would be great.
    thanks

As you have discovered, QT does not support the export of sound from muxed mpeg files. Fortunately, this freeware will export to several formats. It also allows you to do some editing of mpegs without re-encoding if that is desired: Mpeg StreamClip

  • MPEG1 Muxed file conversion

    Hello!
Can anybody recomend what I should be converting MPEG1 Muxed files (from a Sony DSC-W30 camera) to to use with imovie? I have been making MPEG-4 on Streamclip and it seems to work well. Just wondering if there is something quicker/better/faster I should be using/doing? Thanks in advance for any help!!

OK, I bucked up and purchased MPEG-2 Component. Now I get this message when I try to drag the MP4 file into my iMovie 6:
While I consider the MPEG-2 Playback component a good investment for a number of reasons, they have nothing to do with the playback or import of MP4 content. The MP4 file container is associated with MPEG4/AAC and H.264/AAC files -- neither of which require the MPEG-2 component which is for use with MPEG-2 (MPEG, M2V, VOB, etc.) compressed files.
"The file could not be imported: The file can't be imported; QT couldn't parse it: -2048"... What does this mean?
Error code -2048 (NoMovieFound) is normally associated with a corrupted file or improperly terminated file. For instance, prematurely closing a file while it is being written (i.e., power outage, "brown out", forced closing of the application, etc.) may prevent the writing of a valid end to the file. In addition, some applications (like Windows) write "open-ended" files which QT applications consider invalid. (Files indiscriminately downloaded from the Internet frequently have this problem.) In any case, without a valid termination or known "end of the data" a movie file will not be recognized valid and usually return a -2048 error or some sort of "Not a Movie" message.

  • Can't get real time playback with Cineform 3D muxed files

    Hey all,
AE user for 20 years but new to PP.  Getting it setup for a sterescopic editing system.
Problem: 3D (1920 x 1080 29.97) fies created in FirstLight...won't play in RT in PP or Firstlight for that matter.
I am feeding an external passive stereo monitor via HDMI 1.4.  I have MPE enabled.  I am using a Cineform preset sequence.  I have a fairly fast raid for the media.  But it won't play in RT.  Even lowering the resolution doesn't seem to help much.   Is there something I am missing?
While it could be a hardware problem, I doubt it.  Because when I play the 3D muxed files in Windows Media Player, and drag it over to my 3D external monitor, it plays just fine...like silk in RT stereo.  (minus the metadata of Cineform of course)  But in PP or Firstlight...stutters.
BTW, is there window inside AE that lets you know the actual framerate you're getting on playback, like AE?
Please, any suggestions would be helpful...this new 3D edit system is no good to me now.  Thanks in advance.

Last I have heard there is a bug in Cineform's preset/player right now where it is not using the acceleration at all inside of Adobe. That was with files that were converted from Red to Cineform however the performance even at 1080 was horrible. Cineform seemed to process the material at the resolution it was rather than what is was set to scale. I would not be surprised if the 3D playback is doing the same thing. You need to contact Cineform on this one. If it's happening in First Light then the issue is with Cineform's player.
BTW the work around in 2D is to switch to a custom preset and use the Adobe I-Frame algorithm for preview. However I doubt that will work for the 3D material.

  • Help on muxed files

i can get my videos on my ipod but they have no audio. Also after i convert my video files to MPEG-4 they have no audio when i play them on itunes. does anyone know how to convert muxed files??

I would try Videora iPod converter, as this works well under Windows, and is free. Check out the following guide http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/

  • QuickTime 7.0.3 Muxed file support. When?

Hello, I have been learning about how to save many different media formats into either *.3g2 or *.mp4. I finally understand it now and the only thing that frustrates me is the fact QuickTime Pro is useless on files that were once Multiplexed in the past. Does any onw know if Apple is aware of such Problem? There is simply no way to export, let's say, a Muxed Mpg1 file to *.3g2 or *.mp4 and keep the audio. The part that kills me is that I have found a Free ware tool on the net that does it but the Audio is somewhat not as in sinch as it should be.
This problem is completely software related and there's no need to give hardware specifications.
I hope there's an answer out there.

Apple has for several years made available a FAQ that lists this export limitation so it is unlikely that they are going to make any changes.
    QT Mpeg Limitations
However, there are solutions, such as using this freeware Windows program that can convert mpeg-1 files to avi format which can then be opened in QT and exported with both video and sound to your choice of formats. Just open the mpeg-1 file in VDub and then use Save as Avi in the File menu. Note that the uncompressed file will be quite large, so if it is a long mpeg you may need to do the conversion in several segments.VirtualDub

  • FINALLY! One resource for sending Muxed files to iPod

I challenged somebody last night and they responded tonight. Podner, find it at versiontracker.com, finally allows you to drop muxed MPEG files onto a software program that outputs in various file formats that automatically work in iTunes and for the iPod Video. TRY IT!!! It's awesome!

Well there must be 500 posts with how to do this over the last weeks including mentioning Podner dozens of times, however since it costs money and MPEG Streamclip works as well for free, the latter seems a better option.
Search here before posting and discover how this has been covered. 52 times Podner is mentioned. Streamclip, 111 times.

  • Muxed files

I'm making a movie via iMovie.
i have quicktime files that are "muxed" that i would like to add but apparently that is not possible.
    any suggestions?

mpeg1 can be converted into something useful with Streamclip (free)
if it is mpeg2, you need to buy Apple mpeg2 plugin (20$) and use Streamclip for the conversion....

  • No sound on MPEG1 muxed files.

Help. For some reason my old clips that use MPEG1 Muxed (sound) now have NO sound. I have isolated it to this modem type as all other file formats, including windows formats play okay.
Also, MS Word no longer beeps or makes other prompting type sounds.
Also, MovieMagic Screenwriter no longer produces any sound when saving, detecting spelling errors, etc.
Also, Real media player no longer produces sound, mainly used for streaming radio staions, as most only support Realmedia or Windows streaming. Video os okay, just no sound. This also includes no sound when watching or listening to anything from Youtube.
I was running 10.4.8 from the software update and everything was fine. I downloaded Audacity this morning, opened it, did nothing with it and then closed it. Possibly the problems started at that point but I'm not sure. I have since downloaded and re-installed 10.4.8 using the combo 10.4.8 version according to the apple guidlelines, but there is no change.
Everything was working fine, and always has, now I suddenly have all of these problems with sound. Never had this before ever. Also downloaded the latest version of QT pro again, but no difference detected.
iTtunes works okay and so do all of the OSX alert sounds as well as my clock.
Please, can anyone help? The problem is on my iMac G5, 20 in, 2GHz.

    Hey Ham
    try this
Go to the "Get Info" by right clicking on the song and from there go to "options" and see what the volume preset is on

  • Playing quicktime muxed files

I've purchased the mpeg 2 component to convert files to play in quicktime. However, I didn't realise it didn't demux the video & audio so I'm getting the visuals but no sound to them. Is there any way I can get separate video & audio tracks without having to convert the files using converter software e.g. mpeg streamclip? Is there any quicktime component that will do this? It's very laborious having to convert each & every video file!! Help!!!
macbook pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Assuming you are on a Mac, you can use bbDEMUX to demux a .vob file. The result will be .m2v (MPEG-2 video)and .m2a (audio) files. You can then use MPEG Streamclip to convert the audio file to .aiff
Rename both the .m2v file and the .aiff file with the same name (i.e. My_Movie.m2v and My_Movie.aiff) and place them in the same folder. Open the .m2v file in QT, and when you play it back, it should play the audio as well.

  • MPEG 1 Muxe Files

I know it says it only imports the video of these files, but I would really like to know how to get the audio imported too so that I can hear what I'm watching. Does anyone know how I could do this?
    Thank You.

    StreamClip makes it pretty easy

  • Urgent!!  Problems muxing .m2v files and audio!! MPEG Streamclip/Compressor

    Hello!
I am under an urgent deadline to upload a short 6 min documentary clip for a client to review for screening this week. The footage was shot in 1080/60i HDV.
Usually, I find the best quality and fastest way to do this is to export directly from my FCP sequence using the '150 min Best Quality' DVD settings in compressor to get an .m2v video file and .ac3 audio file. Then I open the .m2v files in MPEG Streamclip which links it with my .ac3 file, then do 'Export MPEG with MP-2 audio". This gives me a single, muxed file that I can then upload to YouTube or Vimeo.
However, with this project, when I open up my .m2v file in MPEG Streamclip, it's recognizing the .ac3 file and I can see the info for it in the MPEG Streamclip window, but when I play the file in MPEG Streamclip or mux it, I don't hear any audio. Furthermore, after about 5 seconds into the clip, the playhead will continue moving, but the video will freeze, then maybe pick up again later. The .m2v video will play back smoothly in VLC player or Quicktime player, but not in MPEG Streamclip.
I've tried exporting different little sections of the timeline to see if maybe I had some corrupted footage or whatnot. I even exported a small clip from an older HDV project to test. But no matter where I export from, I am running into the same problem. I can bring the .m2v file and .ac3 file into DVD Studio Pro and burn a DVD with no problem, but I can't mux them. If I build the DVD file in DVD SP and try to open the .VOB file with MPEG Streamclip, I get the same problem. I even tried using a different software to mux (ffmpegX) but to no avail. When I try with ffmpegX, it either tells me I'm dropping frames, or if it works and it muxes it, when I open the MPEG file, it'll stutter at about 5 seconds in as well and I can't hear any audio, even though there is supposed to be audio in the muxed file.
I think I might have updated my Quicktime a few days ago with the system update, and maybe updated a few other things, so I don't know if this has any bearing on the problems I'm running into. But I was able just a few days ago to export HDV 1080/60i using this workflow without any problems.
I realize I have other export options, but this always seems to me to be the best quality and fastest way of doing it vs. encoding an H.264 which, on my machine is RIDICULOUSLY slow...I need to be uploading multiple versions of the cut to the client, and really need help! Thanks so much in advance!
    J

what you want is an m2v program file. Export a reference copy from FCP (uncheck Make Movie Self Contained") That's very fast. Bring it into Compressor. In the settings panel find the MPEG-2 settings folder. Select Program Stream. Adjust to your liking and run. The audio and video will already be "muxed" when it's done and using compressor 3 you can set it to upload to YouTube, Mobile or similar sites.
