My albums are corrupted across all backup libraries - album file caching?

I have 2 backup files of my iPhoto Library. I have a third LaCie "rugged" portable hard drive that I wanted to copy another backup of the iPhoto Library to. When I did this successfully and opened it, there were "no photos", but the file was 40+ gigs and the photos are there when you dig into the library's folders.
So, I went back to the hard drive that I copied the library from, opened that library, and now this library also has "no photos", but the same 40+ gigs. I have around 40 organized albums and many slideshows that are lost.
SO, I went back to a 3rd LaCie external hard drive which has another backup copy of the library on it, from 2 weeks prior to this incident. It should be noted that this 3rd hard drive is giving me a notice that it is "operating with limited functionality (no writing to files) and should be backed up immediately". So, I figured since no files were able to be changed on this copy of the library, it would have all the albums intact. Not the case.
It should also be noted that in the meantime I had, on my "rugged" hard drive, made changes to the library with "no photos" - I made 3 albums with old photos to show the family over xmas, thinking that I had this 3rd backup at home and would just get rid of this bad library.
However, now when I open this supposedly unwrite-able library file from my 3rd hard drive, it now shows the same 3 albums that are on my most recently updated library from that "rugged" hard drive. The rugged hard drive was not connected to my mac when I opened my final backup copy of my library on the 3rd hard drive.
Thus, I think there is some type of caching going on in the iPhoto Library program on the actual powerbook, such that every library I open it is using the same, most recent album file... Is this possible?
Any Ideas on how to get my albums/slideshows back from that 3rd copy of my library (which shouldn't be corrupted since it can't be written to), and how to stop this from happening again?
Many Thanks in Advance!
Erik

Okay, that Library got created because the external wasn’t available when iPhoto went to write to the actual Library. That’s the one that you’ve been seeing when you thought you were looking at other Libraries.
First off, let’s find out if any of the Libraries on the externals actually work:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and point iPhoto at these Libraries (one at a time, of course ). If iPhoto sees a valid Library it will open it.
We can then see about merging the Found Library and the correct one.
If it doesn’t see a valid Library we can look into recovering that situation, and then merging the Found Library.

  • Time Machine remove all backups of this files not working

    I've just left a company that had me use my MB as a BOYD...now I have to remove all of their stuff, including files held by Time Machine.
    I selected their directory in TM and said "remove all backups of this file".  It asked for my password and seemed to accept it.
    And then nothing happened.  I've left the MB plugged in, with my Seagate drive plugged in (by usb), untouched for 48 hours.  Even though there is no other activity on the machine TM keeps says that its doing multi-gig backups.  And yet, the files I've asked it to remove remain in my various TM backups.
    I've heard that TM can be unbelievably slow....is 48 hours not long enough?  My MB has 128 gig and my TM has 500 gig so this is not a lot of data.
    Suggestions?

    Best bet would be log problem on apples support and then set up call with support - particularly if most of the backup is not your stuff - but you want to keep your stuff.
    Time Machine Cleanups don't match the length of the backup - because of collapsing of daily files into weekly files - and the hourly ones into daily.
    Have you opened Time Machine desktop drive to look at the folder and see what is going on -- you should have daily backups for the last month (in days) and weekly backups back to the beginning.   With the delete all of some files that may be an issue where that is the only set of files that changed in that week (if you chose not to back up system files).
    Just to be sure - you are running Apples Time Machine and not the backup that came with the Seagate drive?

  • Can't find "Delete all backups of this file " in Time Machine Actions

    I want to free up some space from Time Machine backups, but when I select the folders and go to "actions" the "Delete all backups of <this file>” command that others posters (here) refer to isn't in the Actions drop-down menu. I don't want to just drag them to Trash, but that's the only deletion option. Am I missing something?

    Are you doing this via Time Machine, as detailed in #12 of Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions?
    If so, what options do you see?
    You might want to try the things in #E4 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting.

  • Error during hyperbuild - "cannot find the file 'namake' (or one of its components. Make sure the path and filename are correct and all required libraries are available."

    I have just installed v6.3 for Windows and am trying to run a hyperbuild simulation of a legacy (v6.2 UNIX) model. I suspect that I don't have everything configured right (path to C compiler???) I get the error message "can't find 'nmake'" during simulation.
    Help!

    Sorry I wasn't being very clear either.  I was assuming that you were trying to follow option 2 from Joe D's post on 3-24-2004.  Once you know what environment variables have changed you can go the control panel to set them.  Some of them will may be new variables that you will need to define.  Others may already exists in which case you want to append to them.
    The other option is as Joe D said, which is to run VCVARS32.bat before you start Xmath.  You could even make a batch file such that instead of starting xmath.bat directly you call your own batch file (.bat).  This batch file would have two lines.  One to run VCVARS32.bat and the second to run XMATH.bat.  If you are not familiar with batch files there are a lot of resources on the web about them.  In this case all you would need is:
    <path to vcvars32.bat>\vcvars32.bat
    "C:\Program Files\National Instruments\MATRIXx\bin\xmath.bat"  -v 71.6
    The -v 71.6 is optional.  it specifies to specifically open version 7.1.6.  If you leave it off the newest version will be opened.

However, not all of my contacts are on the computer as are on my iPhone. Most all the contacts are on the computer except for the ones I need. I have checked iCloud on both my desktop and my iPhone and iCloud is switched on for mail, and contacts along with a few others. What else do I need to do to get all my contacts to my desktop so I can make a group?

  • An error occured while transferring files, now all of my photos/videos are corrupted

    Ok, so this is a strange situation, so bear with me. I was transferring some files from my iphone to my harddrive yesterday. And then I got an error message saying that some of the files didnt transfer for whatever reason. I didn't think much of it, cause these were older files anyway. But then I looked, and all of my more recent files (everything from December 23-Now) got corrupt. This is strange, because the files that I was transferring were from before December 23, so they weren't overlapping at all.
    Anyway, I don't even know where to begin, because I really don't know what this is. Here's a picture of what I'm dealing with.
    As you can probably tell, something weird is happening, since I do not have 4 million photos. (But I do have 286 videos). When I try to play a video, it says "the requested URL was not found on this server".
    When I connect this to image capture, it shows the files as such:
    So some of the information is still there, which is strange. I've also tried backing up from the backup that I made right before this error occured, and it appears that the files are corrupt within the backup too. So I have corrupt files on my phone, as well as corrupt files on my computer. I went to my MobileSync folder and found the backup, and tried changing some of the files to .mov files, and this allowed some of them to turn into video files, but they appear to be corrupt.
    So basically, what are my best options? Is there any way I can salvage these videos? Is there an app that can export these videos, and then repair them? I'm pretty much really lost here, and going to the genius bar was no help.

  • Need help writing script to change version control for all document libraries in all sites

    Hello,
    I found this script, http://get-spscripts.com/2010/10/changing-sharepoint-list-settings-using.html that
    changes versions control for a document library.  However, many sites have many document libraries with different names.  The script below just changes a the settings to a document library that is named "Shared Documents", but does not
    change one if its named something else.  How can change the script to loop through all document libraries so their settings are changed?
    $site = Get-SPSite http://site
    $listName = "Shared Documents"
    #Walk through each site in the site collection
    $site | Get-SPWeb |

    Sorry, I agree. It will update Style Library and other out of the box ones. Include the library titles in a collection and run the update against them provided these libraries are common across all sites. If not, you will have to first get an extract of
    all such libraries in all sites say in a CSV file and then update the script below to refer to the CSV records.
    Add-PSSnapin "Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell" -ErrorAction Stop;
    #List of Libraries to be updated.
    $Libraries = @("Shared Documents","My Document Library");
    $spAssgn = Start-SPAssignment;
    $site = Get-SPSite http://site -AssignmentCollection $spAssgn
    #Walk through each site in the site collection
    $site | Get-SPWeb -Limit ALL -AssignmentCollection $spAssgn |
    ForEach-Object {
    #Enumerate through all document libraries
    $_.Lists|Where{$_.BaseTemplate -eq "DocumentLibrary" -and $Libraries -contains $_.Title}|Foreach-Object{
    #Get the list in this site
    $list = $_;

    What size if the Library as indicated in the Finder?  If it's large enough to be holding your photos then your photos are probably still in there but the library is damaged.  If the tags you used indicate iLife 11 then try the following:
    Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
    Click on the Add Library button,
    navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
    Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
    In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
    Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
    Note 2:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
    If the above falils to recover your photos continue with this:
    Starting over from scratch with new library
    Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
    This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
    Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • After turning on iTunes Match, songs in playlist are in the wrong order across all devices.

    So in iTunes, my client had several playslists, all with songs in a specific manual order.  None of them are smart playlists.
    After iTunes Match was activated, the song order seems to have changed in every playlist and on one iPhone where the same iTunes Match account was also enabled on.
    We know they are in a different order as an iPod touch that does NOT have iTunes Match enabled yet still has the original order.
    Just wondering what the best way to fix this would be.  Should we manually drag the songs to the right order or is there a simpler way to revert to how they were ? Also would manually moving the update the order across all iTunes Match devices ?

    This worked although it was very clumsy (we had almost 3,000 files that had to be deleted and redownloaded. I could not figure out a way to sort all of the 'exclamation points' together so it took an hour or so to scan through the entire library list and delete each file individually and/or in small groups.) The download was very straight forward. In my experience (with iTunes match turned on,) we did NOT loose our playcounts.
    Going through all those files I noticed several common themes that may have triggered the problem: 1) multiple artists, 2) special characters in the song title, artist and/or album name - particularly umlauts (we have quite a few german songs in our library.) 3) very long title, artist and/or album names.
    I hope that someone from Apple is aware of these issues and working on them....

  • HT203167 Has anyone else been ripped off when purchasing music. Paid for an entire album and two songs are corrupted. Then they want me to pay for service, so that I may ask for a refund. Anyone?

    Cannot get any help with this, very unhappy. This was a download for our son. What a disappointment.

    You don't have to pay. If they are corrupt and (assuming that you are in a country where you are able to) re-downloading them doesn't fix it, then login to your iTunes account on your computer's iTunes (Store > View My Account), click on See All to the right of the Purchase History, find that album in your purchases and use the 'report a problem' link on it

  • I upgraded my iphotos and now all my photos are gone in all my albums.  How do I find them and put them back in? (1800 photos.)  Help.

    I upgraded my iphotos and now all my photos are gone in all my albums. (1800 photos.) How do I find them
    and put them back where they belong?

    What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later
    Option 1
    Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
    Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

    Perhaps the PDF files are corrupted.
    Hit the command key and spacebar, a blue Spotlight in the upper right hand corner appears, now type Preview and press return on the Preview program.
    Now you can try opening the PDF's from the file menu and see what's going on.
    If they are corrupted, perhaps they are trojans from your Windows PC or gotten from a bad location online.
    Download the free ClamXav and run a scan on the possibly infected folder.
