My Computer Thinks That I'm In A Different Country

Hi All.
For some reason, my computer thinks that I'm in a different country.
It thinks that I am in South Korea, which is where the computer has mainly been used, although I am currently in Norway, where the computer first was used.
Anyone know how to fix this?
Thank You.

Hi JoaNor, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Not exactly clear what you mean, but check these three places...
System Preferemces>Date & Time>Time Zone.
System Preferemces>International> all tabs.
And if there's a little flag up at top of the menubar, click on that.

'''Did you backup whatever bookmarks you did have on the computer ? '''
Remember any restoring of bookmarks overwrites whatever he current set is, and you may not want to loose them.
Even if up until now you have not made any backups of Desktop bookmarks Firefox will have backed up some of them into sets of daily bookmark backups. Once you have backed up your current set you could look at what it has by restoring those bookmarks, you may find one of those sets is fairly complete.
By the way if you look at the profile files and folders that you should now have on the desktop you should see it contains a bookmarks backup folder, the size of the files within should indicate whether they contain anything.
You need to go into the bookmarks library and try the restore option. Backup each set that you look at if it has anything of use in it, before trying the next set. With look one of those will be a fairly complete set of bookmarks.
    * USE '''Show All Bookmarks -> Import and Backup -> Restore '''
** see [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer#w_restoring-from-backups]]_restoring-from-backups
I do not use Firefox on mobiles, but before you try anything further you do need to backup the desktop bookmarks and learn what existing backups you have. Unless you master that you are in continual danger of overwriting and loosing bookmarks.
Presumably you have already found this listing of help articles for mobiles

I thing yu really have a 2G iod. Those can only to to 4.2.1.  If yours is a 8 or 16 GB one it is a 2G iPod.  Apple only made 32 and 64 GB 3G iPods. A 32 GB one could be either.  To identify your iPod:

  • Purchase through Paypal that is set from a different country)

    Hello Apple Community!
I know AppStore accepts Paypal as one of the payment method, but
I have a verified Paypal account and I was wondering if there was a way
to purchase using Paypal, that is set from a different country, in the US appstore?

I had create a US iTunes Account with no registered address/card buy "buying" a "free" app, while not logged in.
Then I had someone buy me a US iTunes Gift Card. I was able to use that to buy the app, and sync it to my UK device.

  • Upgraded to 10.5 and FCP thinks that its running on a different computer

I've had FCP for about 5 years now, no problems. I recently upgraded to OS10.5 FCP worked fine until I tried to go to compressor and compressor would not work (different forum, I know) anyway I got compressor working again by re-installing just compressor. Now FCP won't open b/c it thinks that there is anouther application with identical serial #'s already running on my network. I have 1 other Mac and its running Final cut express. Even with the other mac off it still gives me the message. Please help.

You might consider removing all FCP(S) components and do a fresh install of the application. Have your serial numbers ready and I hope you are not in the middle of a project.

  • Mega issues......my computer thinks that my basic password is wrong

whenever you do certain things it asks for name and password......and it was fine......but now when i enter the information it says that i must type an ADMINISTRATORS password.......
I noticed this after i installed leopard....don't know if it is connected or no

Okay I'm trying to think (something that I'm not exactly use to ).
Once you've booted into the the installation disc you should select Utilities from the Menu bar at the top and select Reset Password but not the Firmware Password Utility.
You're wanting to actually create another account. This account will have 'root' privileges. There should be instructions when you select System Administrator (root) from the list.
It's sort of hard to explain what's going on. Try to go through the instructions again. There's obviously a step you've missed or overlooked.
Bottom line is you'll end up with a new account under the name "Other" and when you choose that you'll need to enter root as the Username and the password you chose. Once you do that you can go into the System Preferences and give your regular account admin privileges and then log out of the root account and back into your regular account and delete the root account if you feel the need.

Hi. I have set up the trial versions of Photoshop CC 2014 and Lightroom 5.6 (ie the Photography plan) on a desktop that I have added a new drive to with Windows 7. Everything works fine BUT it is an old computer and I'm thinking that it may pack up unexpectedly. These things happen. I want to sign up for the Photography plan but I also have a Windows Vista laptop, and that is old too so I may want to put the apps on a new desktop and a new laptop, having already installed on my desktop. That makes three activations. Am I allowed to do this? Cheers. Paul

You cannot have three activations. It's simply not technically possible. If and when the time comes, you simply deactivate/ sign out on one of the old systems and install on the new one. If the system goes belly up, you contact support to reset your account. No need to make it more complicated than that and overthink it.

  • Computer thinks it is connected to the internet when it's not

I posted this in the "Using your PowerBook" category, but I realized it may have to do with internet and networking than anything else. So I thought I'd put it here too.
When logging into my account on my PowerBook, I get the spinning colored wheel and the menu bar takes over a minute to come up. The dock comes up right away, and the status icons (i.e. battery meter, AirPort indicator, Bluetooth, etc...) load at their normal speed. But I get no menu bar, no desktop icons, and no little black triangle under the Finder icon for over a minute. I can click icons on the dock, but nothing will come up until the menu bar has loaded and the colored wheel disappears. After this everything works fine. Applications are plenty fast. I can fast switch between accounts and mine will come back fairly quickly. However, as soon as I actually log out of my account and then log back in, it goes very slowly again. Everyone's account on the computer does the same thing.
I have noticed that the problem only occurs when I am connected to my wireless network at home and the Linux machine which serves as the gateway/router for my network is not connected to the internet. However, this is the case most of the time because I can't get high-speed internet in my area, so I'm stuck with dial-up.
I have a similar problem with iTunes 6.0.4 on my Power Mac G5 Quad running OS X 10.4.6. The G5 is connected to my wireless router with an ethernet cable and whenever the Linux box isn't online and I put a CD into the computer, iTunes spends a minute plus trying the query the online database for the CD info and won't display the CD until the operation times out. However, if I unplug the ethernet cable, the CD comes up instantly. I guess the OS assumes that it is connected to the internet as long as an ethernet cable is plugged in and it has an IP address. The G5 has no login problems though.
This makes me think that the same thing is going on with my PowerBook, because whenever I turn off AirPort, logins become much faster. I don't think the problem has anything to do with my AirPort card however, because logins are just as fast with it on, as long as my Linux machine is connected to the internet. My theory is that something is trying to access the internet at login because it thinks it has a connection, and it is holding everything else up until the operation times out. Does anyone have any clues as to what could be the culprit?
This may sound crazy but I'm pretty sure I first noticed the login problem on my Powerbook after upgrading it to iTunes 6. That might have been a coincidence though because I also upgraded the OS to 10.3.9 right around that time. I can't remember in what order, but the problem with iTunes on my G5 makes me suspicious because I know that problem started with the iTunes upgrade. Strangely, I don't have the iTunes problem on my PowerBook even though I'm running the same version thats on my G5. I guess it's the difference between Panther and Tiger.
I've tried everything from a permissions repair to a clean erase and install in an effort to fix the login problem on my PowerBook. After I restored the the original 10.3 that shipped with it, the problem seemed to vanish, but as soon I a ran Software Update and installed the latest version of everyting, the problem resurfaced. Unfortunately I didn't realize the correlation between the problem and my internet connection at the time, so it may have been just a coincidence.
I've tried bringing the PowerBook in to the Genius Bar at my local Mac store several times and the problem seemed to mysteriously disappear whenever I tried to demonstrate it there. Now I realize that was probably because I was not connected to my home network where the computer thought it was online when it really wasn't. I'm planning to bring them both in again when I get the chance, but "Geniuses" are few and far between at the Genius Bar and you have to get the right person in order to get anywhere. I was hoping someone out there might know how to solve these problems. Can anyone help?

Believe it or not, that article helped me find a temporary solution. After reading it I realized that the problem did have to do with my DNS settings. I had taken the DNS settings that my ISP gives me when I dial up and plugged them into the configuration for my AirPort card. This apparently caused a problem because, although my wireless network is always on, it's not always connected to the internet. So those DNS settings were invalid most of the time.
I found that as long as I leave the area for DNS servers blank, the computer logs in normally. This further confirms my suspicion that something was trying to access the internet at login. I guess as long as I don't specify any DNS servers, the computer realizes it doesn't have an internet connection through my AirPort card.
So I just created two network locations: one for when my network is connected to the internet and one for when it isn't. In the first, I kept my original DNS settings because they work as long as I have an internet connection. In the second I did not specify any DNS servers. This seems to work fine, but I'd still like to know what is trying to access the internet at login. I've disabled the automatic update feature in all my programs that have it, but that doesn't seem to help the slowdown at login. Does anyone know how I could figure out what program is trying to access the internet?

  • Computer Thinks My iPod Touch is a Camera

I know there are lots of topics on this, but I can't find a solution! I recently recieved a new Laptop (Dell Inspiron running Windows Vista 32-bit.) When it came to plugging my 16gb 2nd gen iPod Touch in for the 1st time, I went into My Computer to transfer my music over, but my iPod was being displayed as a digital still camera. It is appearing in iTunes with all my music on it, but the problem seems to be with the computer. I have tried updating the device driver, as suggested in the following thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1141495&tstart=0
but it just says the correct drivers are installed. I've tried uninstalling the drivers and then reconnecting my iPod, but the computer just installs the same driver again. Last time I checked, my iPod was working with my desktop computer (that also has all my music on it) that is running windows xp. I have the latest version of iTunes installed and software 2.2 on my iPod (2.2.1 update almost killed it!) Any help would be grately appreciated! Thanks x

do you have 'Saved Photos' on your iPod? i.e. ones which you have obtained on the touch by email/safari/screenshots?
this is what usually makes the computer think it is a camera. when you do have 'Saved Photos' you can remove them either by deleting on the ipod (select photo, hit the bin icon) OR (on a PC) navigate to My Computer, it should come up in there like other external drives/disks do.
you CAN'T however move your music from your iPod to your computer. because (apart from with photos) it does not have a disk mode. you will need to move your music from your old computer to your new one as you presumably have with your other files.

  • Is it wrong for me to think that this is absurd?

I went to the Apple Store at Easton (Columbus, OH) today to get my Macbook Air 13'' (one model back) battery replaced. I made an appointment for 2:30, got served at 3:45 (because I guarentee they were taking 4S buyers w/o appointments before me). It's still in warranty, but the battery has gone to crap. The "Genius" there kept asking questions like what is my usage, do I use flash (cause normal Facebook usage has flash, you know...), if my wifi was on, etc. He turned off all services, wifi off, dimmed the screen completely, and I was getting 3.5 hours of battery life on 98% charge. So they tried to run the Apple Service diagnostic connect to the demo network, alt boot, but their server was down. So he said he could replace my battery, but they didn't have it in stock, so they'd call me when the had to order it.
The thing that irked me was that his "receipt/contract" thing says it will take 5-7 days for the replacement. 5-7 days...for a battery replacement? He said it would need diagnostics and stuff. Honestly, I work two jobs in tech (website management [requires CS5.5 daily] and computer repair [requires MS Office daily]) and am a full time student. Unless they are going to provide a replacement for me to use, I can't do it. I need it for both jobs and school, I don't have time to let them have my Air for 5-7 days to replace a dead battery.
So am I wrong to think that's absurd? Especially considering that this website: http://www.apple.com/support/macbookair/service/battery/ says that it should be a same day repair with an appointment once the battery is in stock? I'd like my laptop to work as intended, but I don't have the time to give it. Honestly I'll wait in the store an hour or two for it to be replaced, rather than it sitting on a shelf at Apple for a week.

    Hi tjessberger,
Sounds perfectly normal, to be honest. First off, the people who help you at the Genius Bar don't sell products and the ratio of specialists to Genius in a store is usually 4 or 5 (at least) to 1. To have an appointment at 2:30pm on a Saturday and only be 45-minutes late is actually pretty good, that's probably the worst possible time on the worst possible day of the week to try and make an appointment. Now, that's not your fault, in a perfect world you should have been seen right away but that's just not how that works at 99% of the stores that I've been to on a Saturday.
Secondly, before arranging any sort of swap there's a series of usability and environmental questions that the tech needs to ask you. It's procedure, so the faster you can get through that part of the appointment then you can get on your way.
Thirdly, the 5 to 7 day quote is normal and the usual quote. You're right, the battery is considered same day service. But as Carl indicated the battery is not in-stock and as such the same day rule doesn't apply. If you drop your machine off, it goes into a queue and it goes to the end of the line. If they order your battery today the earliest it arrives is Tuesday, that's at least 3 days right there. So while your repair might be a 15 minute job for someone that knows what they're doing that's just not how the service queue works at Apple Retail.
The one-year limited warranty doesn't include a loaner why your machine is in for service, it is the responsibility of the owner to arrange a solution when your machine is in for repair. I'm surprised, if you're working two tech jobs that you don't have a work supplied machine or a second unit. You do all of your production work on just a MacBook Air?
What we use to arrange for customers on "quick repairs" is that we'd arrange to order the part for you and then have you bring the machine back to perform the service once the part was in-stock. We'd offer either same day service, or while you wait service based on the nature of the repair, the volume that day and the time (on that day) you brought it in. That seems like a reasonable solution for this issue.

  • My network on the time capsule has a "lock" by it so I know that it requires a password. My guest network has no "lock" by it so I am thinking that it is not locked and people could use it. How  do I lock my guest network on my time capsule or delete it?

My Time Capsule had a guest network that does not have a "lock" sign by it. So I am thinking that other people can use my wireless internet. My other network does have a "lock" by it. How do I delete or lock the guest network? I obvioulsy am not a computer savy individual so please use laymans terms if you can help me. Please and thank you.

In any event, if your OS X version is 10.7.x, download and install AirPort Utility 5.6 for Lion:
    Lion: AirPort Utility 5.6.
If your OS X version is 10.5.x or 10.6.x, download and install AirPort Utility 5.5.3:
Leopard, Snow Leopard: AirPort Utility 5.5.3.
After you install the appropriate version of AirPort Utility, open it. The program will be located in your Utilities folder, which in turn is found in your Applications folder.
To open the Utilities folder, go to the Finder and select "Utilities" from the Go menu:
AirPort Utility 5.6 looks like this:
... but make sure you use the version of AirPort Utility you just downloaded.
Launch AirPort Utility and select your Time Capsule. Click Manual Setup, then the Guest Menu tab, then you can elect to disable the guest network, or to establish whatever security settings you want.
The window looks somewhat like this:
If your version of AirPort Utility does not look anything like that, you are probably not using the one you just downloaded. Find it and start over.
When you are finished configuring your Time Capsule, click Update and allow the Time Capsule to restart.

Does anyone else think that the AppleMac group of products are marketed in a greedy way? I have MacBook Pro 10.5.8 with Leopard and am now told that I have to upgrade to Snow Leopard so that my system can download the relevant iTunes upgrade to sync my new iPad and get my audiobooks (which don't appear anywhere on the device right now). Of course there isn't enough memory on the MacBook and Snow Leopard costs more also? I don't have financial resources to pay for all the new memory requirement and related upgrades they say I need just to sync my iPad with my purchases.

Thanks for the reply but I already knew this. $20 for Snow Leopard which asks for 5gb free memory. I can only see that I have 4 gb (which I feel is rather a pathetic amount of available memory for any computer). To upgrade this computer's memory will cost another fee (I haven't researched this yet but gather it's more than $20). Then of course I could also be told that the OSX Mackbook Pro that I have can't be memory upgraded - which means I'm being told to buy a new computer - hence my very frustrated last email. I have been given a lovely iPad 2 as a present and now can't sync at all with anything because of this ongoing upgrade nightmare. How on earth am I going to be able to sync my movies, audiobooks etc to this new device??

  • My computer thinks my iPad is a camera.  I've  done Apples trouble shooting instructions. No success. When I try to d'load

My computer thinks my iPad is a camera.  I've  done Apples trouble shooting instructions. No success. When I try to d'load and install iPad Software Update it comes up with an error message when installing, saying the network connection has timed out.
    Has anyone any advice?

Your computer thinking your iPad is a camera is a common problem. When I connect my iPad to my computer the computer starts a camera application and wants to download photos from the iPad. To work around this here are two suggestions:
    1. Just quit the camera software that starts up and start up iTunes instead.
    2. On a Mac what happens when you connect a camera is usually controlled by the Image Capture application. It's in the Application folder on your Mac. Might be in the Utilities folder inside the Applications folder. I'm not sure right now. In any case start up Image Capture and look at the preferences. There should be a choice for running an application when a camera is connected or do nothing. Change it to do nothing and save the preferences then close Image Capture. The next time you connect your iPad (or a camera) no camera or Image Capture software will run. When you do connect a camera you'll have to startup the camera software or Image Capture manually.
On a pc there might be a similar application that controls what software app runs when a camera is connected and the solution is probably similar. Sorry but I don't know much about pcs to help here.
As far as the time out problem when upgrading the iOS software, I've seen quite a few posts on this. It seems that certain firewall software in your Wi-Fi router or Mac and/or virus protection software on your Mac can interfer with the fluid download of the upgrade. The cure is to turn off firewall protection and virus protection during the upgrade process. Turn those back on when you are finished. Once you get to iOS 5 you will be able to perform future upgrades directly from the iPad via Wi-Fi and not have to connect to you computer to upgrade.
