My computer won't turn on.    When the charger is plugged in it flickers between yellow and green

I was using my MacBook pro felt it charging and asleep for 4 hours.  I came back and it won't turn on.  When the battery is plugged in it flickers between yellow and green.

First thing to try would be resetting the System Management Controller. If that doesn't fix it you are probably looking at a hardware issue. Carry the computer in to an Apple store or service provider, or call Apple to set up service.
Best of luck.

  • New Satellite Pro L670-14M won't turn on unless the charger is plugged in?

    Hi All,
New to the forum so would be grateful for any help on this matter.
I purchased a Brand New Satellite Pro L670-14M laptop last week. Now it has been working fine up until today. The last time I used it while just running off the battery was monday evening. I was working on the laptop sending email etc today, and I decided to move rooms. For a reason I have yet to discover I unplugged the charger from the wall (instead of just unplugging the charger from the laptop) while it was plugged into the laptop and the laptop just switched off much to my shock. The was no sparks that i saw from the outlet as i removed the plug but now the laptop will not switch on unless the ac power supply is connected. If i unplug the charger the computer will not turn on.
Now my first thought is that i have (crossed the beams) killed the battery, but the strange thing is, when the laptop is plugged in and turned on and I'm on my desktop screen and i click on the battery icon in the taskbar it states '94% available (plugged in, charging)
While I wait hopefully for some responses I will turn the laptop off and leave the charger plugged to see if the battery has charged beyond 94%

    Hello
I think BIOS update would be worth a try in your case. Have a look on Toshiba driver download page:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp
But before you start the update: Make sure you are logged in as Administrator and close all running programs. Unzip all files from zip archive firstly.
After successful BIOS update load the default settings in BIOS.
Do you use original Toshiba battery and AC/DC adaptor or are they 3rd party parts?

  • Won't turn on unless the charger is plugged in

I was closing my MacBook the other night, but instead of going to sleep it just shut down (front light turned off.) I thought that the battery was dead, so I charged it over night. The next morning, with a fully charged battery, it still wouldn't start unless the power adapter was plugged in. When I push the power button, the light turns on for a second, but then it just shuts down again. The battery says that it is fully charged. I reset the SMC, but it didn't do anything. I've only had the computer for three days. What's up???
MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2 gb factory installed

    hey
i had a similar thing with my battery
I just did what apple told me to:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303319
and now it seems to be recharging, try it out
ps does anyone know that if you do request a new battery from apple, do they just send it to you or do you have to send your old on in first?

  • Macbook air (11 inch) shows very low battery  percentage when the charger is plugged in

My macbook air cannot be used when the charger is plugged in.  The battery percentage will go all the way down to 0% very soon and the computer will shut down then. For example, it shows 1:40 left in the battery when I did not plug in the charger, but once I plug the charger in , it will show 0:43 left instantly. What might be the problem and how to resolve it?
PS: the macbook air can be charged when I shut it down. And it is no problem when the battery is not empty and the charger is not plugged in.

Thank you very much. Here is the information:
      Full Charge Capacity (mAh):          4128
      Cycle Count:          346
      Condition:          Normal
    Any other suggestions?

  • My iPod Nano 5th G. Won't turn on off the charger!?

I recently just found my iPod since it's been lost, I can't understand why it won't turn on when it's not on the charger? It comes on when I put the charger in, thats fine, an I can listen to music and all, it even shows the bolt on the battery and that it's charging, also shows fine on my computer, it connects an I can sync music but I just don't get why when I take it out the charger it goes off and won't turn back on! I tried looking online on how to reset which I did but no luck not even when when I tried resetting it while charging t still won't come on without the charger connected to it. Unless I'm doing it wrong, I don't get it. It never had that problem, although it's been dead for a really long time but does it make a difference? And the battery doesn't show full, it still shows it charging you know when it moving ? And I can't even tell if the battery has gotten at least half way charged cause it goes right off when I take the charger out. Its been about 7-8 hours that I had it on and off the charger . Can you help me? Does the battery have be completely full to where it's still and green ? Not moving back and forth meaning it's not charged at all? Some gadgets don't show the battery is at least half way. On the computer on iTunes, it says it's up to date

    Hello undertow5613,
I would be concerned as well if my iPod nano was not powering on.  I found a resource that I think would help in a situation like this.
I recommend following the steps in this troubleshooting assistant:

  • MacBook pro will not charge even when the charger is plugged in and working

So this is a strange one.
I have been using my MacBook pro for a lot of film editing and motion graphics. Recently, I noticed that my battery kept going down, even when charging. I thought nothing on it and kept using it. After around 4 hours, the battery went from 90% to 23% WHILE plugged in. This got me nervous. When I plug in the MagSafe charger, the light comes on and I get the "charging" symbol in my toolbar. The light turns orange and then, after a few minutes, the power starts to go down instead of up.
I have had this laptop since Christmas 2012 and this has never happened before. The laptop does charge, but only when I am running no application, when the screen is shut or when the laptop is powered off. Bear in mind that right now, I am on Firefox, that is the only application open, yet the charge is still going down. I assumed it was because I was using Premiere CS6, After Effects CS6 and Cinema4D, but now even when they are not open, the batter will not charge when I am using the laptop.
What is going on? Is in the charger? Any help would be greatly appreciated and I am starting to stress!
    Thank you everyone for reading,
    -Rory Campbell
UPDATE: I am currently only running Firefox and Finder. Now the laptop is charging as usual. However the second I open up Premiere, After Effects etc, it goes down. I have no idea what is going on!

Try resetting the PRAM and SMC. If you don't know how to, don't worry. They're very easy to reset. Just google how to do it. If that doesn't work, the only thing I would suggest is to take both the laptop and the charger to your local genius bar to have them examined. If it's less than a year old, apple should replace whatever is wrong with it as long as it was a factory defect.

  • Computer Won't Turn On WHEN Plugged In

Since this question was never even answered in the five months it's been on Apple Discussions, I'll post it again:
The last two days, my Macbook has done a weird restart cycle every time I go to turn it on when plugged in. It will try to start and the video won't load. I will force it off and try again, but nothing. When I DON'T plug in the charger, it will turn on. When I plug in the charger once on the main screen, it shuts off randomly! Somehow it's seeing the power charger as the enemy, but what do I do?!
Charge cycle: ~350 (says battery is good)
Now it's been several months and I'm having the same problem. I had my battery replaced and that worked for a bit but now my three-year warranty is expired and I can't afford any crazy upgrades. This has been the WORST experience I've had with a Mac, despite owning them since 1998. I've had nonstop problems with my Macbook since 2006, when I should have very few.

    Hey brittlynnxo,
Thanks for the question. The following resource provides information for a device that is not responding or turning on:

  • My IpodTouch won't turn on! Even when the charger is plugged in.

I suspect it's a battery issue. Anyway, I was listening to music, browsing the internet when it suddenly powered down. I guess the battery life went out. So I plugged the charger in. The screen suddenly turns white. I play around with it, to see if it will change back, but it doesn't. Then the Ipod completely turns off. Now I can't turn it on at all.
I didn't drop it or anything. So I hope the warranty covers this. I SHOULD have the limited one year warranty because I bought this is January of 2010. Also, I did just restore it yesterday...so that might be a factor.
Help someone? And even if you can't help me to somehow fix it, does anyone know if I can get it repaired under the warranty?
    Thanks.

Dont be worried- If you ipod is under warranty, and you haven't caused it any harm yourself(ie.if its a problem from Apple's side), then you can get your ipod replaced

  • My MBP won't turn on. The charger light goes green but then dims out before it goes out again

My MBP suddenly stopped working when I came back to it. I tried charging it with a couple of different chargers and different sockets. The charger light turns green but then slowly dims down before it turns off.
I tried all key combinations for starting up - holding the power key for long, Cmd+Opt+P+R with power button, Cmd+R with power button, but none of them work. The laptop won't turn on.
    What could be wrong?

If you are still under warranty call Apple Care. Make sure you get a case number as all repairs have an additional 90 days of warranty.

  • Macbook Pro turns off when the charger is moved

Had to replace my charger lately but since I've got the new one whenever I move my macbook (or just the charging cable) the macbook turns itself off. Is this a problem with the cable that I'll need to get looked at? Not sure whether this is important or not but this charger gets hot when it's plugged in even when it's not plugged into the mac whereas my old one never did.

Check the connection where the charge enters the MBP.  Look for debris and discoloration.  Also check that the spring loaded pins in the charger connector are free and not stuck.
Since this is a new charger, I suggest that you make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and bring the charger and the MBP.  Have the technicians examine it.  Also bring the purchase receipt for the charger.
    Ciao.

  • My phone ran out of charge last night and now it won't turn on when I charge it!

I've left it charging for about an hour now, the charger is brand new so it can't be that, and I can't restart it because my lock button is broke:(( anyone know what might be wrong or what I can do to sort it out:(

Typically you would want to reset device however since you can not.
    Perhaps trying other wall outlets.

  • Why does my MacBook Pro battery discharge even when the charger is plugged in?

I've been having a myriad of problems with my MacBook Pro's battery. The main problem is that when in use, the battery steadily discharges often at a very quick rate even when I have the charger plugged in, the only way I can get it to recharge is to close the lid or turn the computer off, however, it has recently started to take a very long time to recharge (I left it for 12 hours and it charged from 0% to 60%). I also noticed that while off, the charger light occassionaly goes green and then back to orange every few minutes. When I manage to get the battery up to 100% charge, it usually stays at 'Charged' for around 5 or 10 minutes and then it just comes up with 'Calculating...' as it slowly discharges, it also occassionaly claims that it is recharging and that it will take around 6 to 8 hours but it only charges about 1% of the battery and switches to 'Not charging'. Also, sometimes the charger light wont come on when it is plugged in and the Mac refuses to acknowledge it is plugged in for some time.
I took it to the Apple Store a few months ago and one of the Geniuses reset the System Management controller and did a quick hardware test which seemed to fix it but the problems returned soon after, I cannot enter the hardware test screen and subsequent attempts to reset the SMC have done nothing, he also tested the charger and tried it with another charger but it did not help.  Hope you guys can help me as I am completely stumped by this and its beginning to annoy me as my Mac is becoming almost unusable.

  • Why does my Macbook Pro screen go black when the charger is plugged in while using bootcamp?

While on bootcamp, my computer runs perfectly fine unless I have the charger plugged in. Once I plug it in the screen goes black and starts to charge. I know the computer is still on because I can hear audio from videos if one is playing while I plug in the charger. Once I unplug it the screen comes back on. This makes it so I am unable to work on my computer with the charger plugged in. This is a new problem and did not start once I installed windows 7, it used to work fine. Any suggestions?

Thank you for your suggestion! It helped me with this issue as well. My problem was that I was that Windows had started but wasn't logged in yet--the brightness keys didn't work on the windows login screen. I had to log in to Windows, then plug in the power, then turn the brightness up.
    Thanks again for the suggestion!
