My divs won't behave themselves....

I am trying to to put two divs within another div and I can't get them to behave...
Imagine a two smaller divs contained by a larger div.
I want an image in one of the small boxes to float left and then in the smaller box floating right  I want text floating to the right of the image.
No matter what I do, the text won't go up beside the image.  It wants to go beside the image but only start at the bottom of the image.
I am sure the boxes are within the larger box and I am sure that the widths of the two small boxes are smaller than the width of the bigger box.
(I am creating classes that define the size and position of the divs... am I missing a setting?)
Anybody have this problem before and know a solution?
Thanks...

If you get the maths correct - works like a charm - no need for that extra <div> surrounding the two small floated <divs>

  • Divs Won't Line Up

    www.acemon.com
    The site passes validation but doesn't display properly.
    Underneath the header are two divs, "introtext1" and "introtext2" and even though the code for each is identical (aside from the left margin), they won't line up at the top.
    There are four divs labelled "text", and when I start to add words to each, the adjoining div "clickhere" drops downward depending on the amount of words within the "text" divs.
    Maybe my problem is only getting two hours sleep and I'm missing something obvious.
    Thanks.

    Add float: left; to your 'introtext2' css and amend the margin-left to 20px (as below)
    #introtext2 {
        font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
        background-color: #6F6;
    float: left;
        height: 300px;
        width: 430px;
        margin-top: 20px;
    margin-left: 20px;
        padding-top: 5px;
        padding-left: 10px;
        padding-right: 10px;
    The reason your 'clickhere' box moves is because you have your html code in the wrong order. It should be as below (note the 'text' closing </div> comes before the opening  'clickhere' <div> tag:
    By the way you have your <!--  --> comments for the closing </div> tags in the wrong place too. Below they are in the correct place.

  • Hidden Div won't appear in ie

    I have setup a hidden div on a page and it works great on FF and Safari on a Mac but won't work on FF or IE on a PC....I'm at a loss.
    www.buckeyetechguy.com/delosh
    check the bottom "Buy Now" button.  If you click it on a Mac it shows a hidden div, on a PC it doesn't do a thing.
    Any ideas?  Thanks!

    I deleted the spry and rebuilt it and now it works....almost.
    Now, it does appear on IE and FF on a PC but when you try to make it fade away the div fades but not the inherit divs.  Ideas?

  • Div won't expand

    Hi all!
    I have a problem with a div thta would not expand and I am just not getting why... I tried to put clear divs in different positions but nothing seems to be working... w3c check is all fine (if you check by yourself, the only errors showing up are induced by the facebook iframe)
    So any help will be much appreciated
    here is a link so you can see http://elhoster.com/travel2/argentina-travel-hostels-bariloche-hostel-inn.html , you'll notice that the container_left div goes over the footer and the body_wrapper div does not expand as it should do ...
    Many thanks in advance

    APDivs are not a good layout choice unless you fully understand what they do and how they behave in browsers.
    http://apptools.com/examples/pagelayout101.php
    Height is a limitation in all browsers except early IE.  Not good to use on any container with text inside it.
    If required to reveal a background image, use the min-height property.

  • TS1398 I have just purchased an iPad mini and it will not join my wifi. It detects my wifi network but will not join. I have a Mac, 2 iPhones and an iPad 4 and all work perfectly. The new iPad mini just won't behave. Any ideas?

    I have purchased an iPad mini and it will not join my wifi network. Any ideas?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Fixed Position Divs Won't Position Correctly

    Hi,
    I'm using Dreamweaver CS5 and trying to put a series of thumbnail images within a div using the fixed position method. They look great in Live View but when the page is posted they shift way off to the left. Here's the page:
    www.acemon.com/features.html
    It looks pretty bad in Firefox and absolutely awful in Internet Explorer.
    I added background colors to the various divs (partly to help me locate them correctly) and I want to center the photos in the greenish box. I'm a fairly new Dreamweaver user and spent about two hours trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong.
    Thanks,
    -Ace-

    Thank you. I am in your debt.

  • Div won't line up correctly

    I maybe stupid but I need help. The red div  at the bottom of the page attached is not lined up directly beneath the container above and is aligned to the left. Can anybody tell me where I'm going wrong as Iwant it to align correctly. Thanks for any help. Link below.
    http://www.sunridgegraphics.co.uk/ac.html

    A couple options right off the top of my head:
    1) use the align="center" option inside your <div> tag
    2) try inserting the red bar div inside the div you're trying to align it to.  That way, no matter where the text div is, the red bar is always at the bottom of it.

  • Trying to get args[] to behave themselves!

    Hi Everyone,
    I am having some fun trying to make my program totally portable. I am working with File objects and they are not behaving exactly the way I would like.
    My program takes a source directory, which is packed full of pictures, and then uses each of these pictures in an automated manner which results in an html page being produced for each picture.
    I am trying to allow the program to run totally from the command line with two arguments, one the source directory and one the destination directory.
    So when running my program, you would do something like this:
    C:\MyJava>java -cp . auto.Initialize_Program C:\Pictures C:\HTML
    I use the (String[] args) array to import the two parameters into my program.
    It is past this point that the fun starts, when creating a File object in my IDE I used the following code, which is totally functional:
    File textFile = new File("C:\\Pictures\\"+final_file_name+".htm");In the above code snippet the "C:\\Pictures\\" section of code points to my destination directory and the final_file_name variable names each file in the destination (of course with a ".htm" extension).
    When I try to use the command line arguments, e.g.:
    File textFile = new File(args[0] + final_file_name + ".htm");I end up with a whole bunch of html files called PicturesXYZ.htm (where XYZ is the various file names) in the root directory.
    Basically the section that used to point to the destination directory is now becoming part of the file name. I have experimented with the pathSeperator() method of class File to no avail.
    I need to find some way of telling the program that the args[0] part is in fact a destination directory and not part of the file name. Does anybody have any suggestions as to how I could go about doing this?
    Any help would be super.
    Regards
    Davo

    C:\MyJava>java -cp . auto.Initialize_Program C:\Pictures C:\HTML
    File textFile = new File(args[0] + final_file_name + ".htm");args[0] doesn't end in a backslash, and final_file_name doesn't begin with a filename. So obviously, you end up with filenames like "C:\PicturesXYZ.htm". To avoid this, you can either add a backslash in the concatenation (or use File.pathSeparator, to be more platform independent:)
    File textFile = new File(args[0] + File.pathSeparator + final_file_name + ".htm");Or, you can make a File object representing the directory, and use that as input to the File constructor when makeing the textFile object:
    File dir = new File(args[0]);
    File textFile = new File(dir, final_file_name + ".htm");

  • MSI Media Live DIVA won't POST

    I have an MSI Media Live DIVA I can't get to POST, show any video indication, keyboard indication, or beeps from the motherboard with or without RAM.  I have tried it both in the case and sitting on a static bag.  I need some suggestions before I contact MSI for a replacement.
    Also, the system has never been booted (all new parts) and my other systems in the house aren't AM2 so I haven't been able to test the CPU to make sure it works.
    Anyone have any thoughts?

    Try with another CPU from the compatibility list{Not Phenom} ==> http://global.msi.eu/index.php?func=prodcpusupport&maincat_no=134&cat2_no=&cat3_no=&prod_no=1654#menu
    See if you can post, then update the BIOS to the latest one ==> http://global.msi.eu/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=134&prod_no=1654
    1. Update CPU module to 3.13_36 (AGESA code 3.1.9.1)
    2. Fix AMD Phenom X4 9600 HD960ZWCJ4BGD CPU compatibility issue.
    3. Fix some USB devices cannot work normally.

    Seems you're building a similar system to me, did changing the RAM to slots 1 & 3 work? Also did you have any difficulties fitting the scythe mini onto the mobo, I have bought both the board and the heatsink but not assembled yet. The heatsink is HUGE, I'm hoping it doesn't block the RAM slots. I also have the Antec Fusion Black case.

  • Tools are not behaving themselves :o(

    Hello, I've just opened Illustrator CS5, and for some reason certain things don't work as they normally should. I.e. When i go to re-size a shape and i naturally hold down shift to maintain it's proportions it's just not functioning, same with Alt + Drag for duplicating. This happend in InDesign and then 5 minutes later started working correctly, is this something that can be resolved? Or am i going mad!!
    Any suggestions much appreciated

  • Log in photo won't behave

    I am an admin. on my machine and whenever I try chaning my log in photo, it reverts to the default Apple photos. Anyone have a clue why? Any help is appreciated.

    The problem may be with your new ram. The fact that it manifested after having it installed is rather suspicious. Having it removed is worth a try. Additionally your ibook came with a hardware test cd. This is either a separate cd or part of the OS installer cd/dvd. The test is not 100% accurate but it is quite good at indicating whether there is a problem with any of the hardware components.

  • Since updating iTunes my iMac won't behave

    Hi ive been led to believe the reason my imac is playing up is because the permissions are wrong on my hard drive. Ive tried to repair these but thy wont refresh . Any ideas.
    The original fault is loss of internet connection slow opening of apps and the spinning wheel of death when i try to close the system .

    Sure. Since you hadn't reposted, I thought you'd figured it out -- and then when I installed the Apple HP update as well the other day I figured that was that for both of us. It wasn't until I read your new post and actually tried printing that I realized it's not working again for me either.
    The good news is that this time the fix was even easier. I just wish I knew WHY it worked.
    The first time this happened, I went to System Preferences>Network and turned off Ethernet. Then I turned on Airport. Printing still didn't work. Then I turned off Airport (still in system prefs) and turned Ethernet back on. Then closed system prefs. I can't remember if I actually started to print a new job when all of the previous jobs started printing out, or if they just started on their own.
    Today, all I did was turn off Airport in the Menubar. (I don't remember having turned it on, but obviously I did) Then I tried printing a new document (through ethernet) and the earlier document came out followed by the new one.
    Based on what happened today, I'd say that for some reason Printing Defaults to Airport and that the HP isn't liking Airport. But that doesn't explain how this happened last week before I'd even configured Airport for the first time.
    Please let me know how you do with this. I love that old printer. Good luck!

    Because IE 6 is 5+ years old and hasn't been updated in a long while and the only reason it's still kicking in somewhat decent numbers is because some large companys utilized IE-only type features for internal applications and intranets and thus forced Microsoft to conitnue to support it beyond the original end-of-support date. :-)
    By the way, potentially you could just give IE 6 a really bare-bones layout - but you'll need to make sure that that's acceptable for the project. Also it's good for your sanity if you stop trying to make the site look exactly the same in every browser. It's much easier to make it look "good enough" and make sure that the content is accessible and the site usable.

  • New Div Problem

    Hey again. This time, I've encountered an issue where I have
    placed four divs into a main div container. The four inner divs are
    all behaving well and responding to my margin call-outs, and
    offetting from each other, or the top, as they should. However, I
    added a fifth div container (Main Content 5, highlighted in lime
    green) and it will not offset from the bottom of the "Graphic 3"
    container, even though I specified a 10px top margin. In DW design
    view I can see the 10px top margin overlapping the Graphic 3 div. I
    tried several fixes, but as I'm still learning, it is apparent I'm
    not hitting upon the correct solution. Here is the file online:
    http://www.vairhead.net/csstest/csstest.html
    And as long as I'm asking, perhaps someone knows why DW won't
    let me click in certain places when I want to add a div tag. Here's
    a graphic explaining that issue:

    Thanks once again-
    Mark

    Depending on the way that particular page element is located
    on the page,
    there may be no sensible pace to the "right".
    You are thinking about your layout with a Design view
    mentality. That's
    holding you back....
