My iBook keeps overheating!!

Ok heres how it goes, recently my iBook which i've had for a while has recently got so warm and crashed as i'd call it, what happens is the system still works and mouse moves but try and do anything and that part crashes and this i know is because the hardrive isnt reading/writing anymore and i was wondering what would cause this?, the hardrive is new but i have however noticed that my main fan doesnt come on anymore, is there a way to fix this, my dad is an apple engineer and he isnt sure what this problem is and i hoped that someone would know what may cause this and how to fix,
thanks in advance and please email me if you guys find anything instersting

Hi and welcome to Apple Support Discussions forums!
If you have a widget such as iStat Pro, you can see the hard disk drive temp, processor temp,
battery temp and some other details. It will show other information, and is configurable.
There is a possibility the new hard disk drive is overheating and failing; or in the process of
the upgrade, a wire or circuit was made inoperative to some other part of the logic board.
How does the computer handle running from a cloned system on an external FireWire drive?
You could probably tell a thing or two about the rest of the hardware by isolating this issue.
Was there any indication of hard drive status through use of the booted Installer's Disk Utility?
How much installed RAM is in that computer's configuration? The computer would need to be
writing and reading the hard disk drive, as available virtual memory = free space a bit more,
and often with less than ideal installed chip RAM available to the system and applications.
Is the computer used on a hard surface or on a soft
one, where breathe-ability could be compromised?
Good luck & happy computing!

Try updating your iTunes using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer file downloaded from the Apple website:

  • TS1702 iBooks keeps quitting for no reason

iBooks keeps quitting for no reason. So tedious, so fed up with the app.

You might have a corrupt PDF file in iBooks, a corrupted book download, the app itself might be corrupt.....have you tried deleting the app and reinstall it? You can download your books again from the purchased tab of the iBooks app. If you sync with iTunes, you can sync all of your books back to the iPad after you delete the app and reinstall it.
In the meantime, you might want to just try quitting the app, reboot the iPad and then see how the app behaves.
Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the iBooks app and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Ibooks keeps crashing on my ipad 3 running ios7

Hi, i have my ipad 3 running ios 7.01 and ibooks keeps crashing. I have sheet music i need to read when I perform ...today!! Can anyone help!!
    Many thanks!!

First, perform a Reset on the iPad (different from just restarting).
Hold down on both the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears. When you see the Apple logo on the black screen, let go of the buttons.
After the reset, go to "Settings" then "iBooks". Go to "online content" and turn it on.  Try downloading from iBooks again.
    Hope this answers your question!

The iBook does not have a backup (PRAM) battery. It only has the main battery and a small capacitor which maintains the settings long enough to do a battery swap. If the battery is dead, what you are seeing can happen.
If the battery is not a problem (or even if it is), you could try resetting the PMU and see if that helps.

  • My new iPhone 4s keeps overheating. I mean it gets really Hot!  Should I take it back?

My iPhone 4s keeps overheating, gets really hot! Should I return it?

My belief is that this is a flaw in the 4S. I've had two--same exact problem on both. I've been chasing this problem for six days. I've restored, restored without using a backup, removed email accounts, etc. I downloaded a couple of applications that show processor utilization. Consistently, the phone is around 72% of processor utilization.
Going back to my 4, I do not have these issues at all. Same EXACT configuration. (Software, carrier, etc.) I'm surprised more people aren't raising this as an issue. It also shows significantly reduced battery life. When my processor is pegged (as noted above, that is often) it loses about 5% every 1/2 hour.

RESOLVED!!! I logged on to my Straight Talk online account, and did a Tech Chat. They immediately gave me a direct phone number and a Reference PIN number and asked me to contact their iPhone specialty support. I called (of course the gentleman's accent was very difficult for me to understand, but managed with asking continually for clarity). He walked me through several tests, setting changes and had me get on my wifi to obtain the latest APN settings. None of his efforts worked ad it was obviously NOT my Straight Talk iPhone 5, 64GB CDMA (no SIM) - it was something with their setting on their end on my account. I was placed on hold a few times and he would come back on to have me try to get on Safari and even Google... after the 3rd on-hold, he returned and asked me to try to use my data again without the wifi turned on and BINGO it worked... I still do not have my wifi turned on and I'm still receiving texts from YESTERDAY too while I was away from wifi service. IF you come across this issue - please call Straight Talk and/or log on to your Straight Talk online account and talk to an online customer service representative and get their direct line phone number for iPhone support and have your Reference PIN number available. Good Luck

  • HP G61 keeps overheating!

My HP G61 laptop keeps overheating! Sometimes it goes black and when I try to turn it on, it lights up for about a second and turns off again. After it cools down and I turn it on again, I usually get a message that says that the tempurature was 90 degrees celcius and it is overheating. I've tried vacuuming some parts, but it continues to overheat! When I feel the bottom or the left hand corner, it is always very hot. I am very worried, I don't know what to do! I also can't take off or unscrew anything, so if you have any suggestions it would help SO MUCH!!!!!!! Please and thank you!!!

Hello james1942, welcome to the HP Forums.
I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure, I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums, since this is a commercial product. You can click here for the link.

  • Qosmio G40 - graphic card keeps overheating and crashing while gaming

My nVidia 8600GT card in my Qosmio G40 laptop keeps overheating and crashing when Im gaming.
It runs all the games I put on it fine, but overheats then crashes and kicks me out of the games Im playing.
Is it just because its a laptop and its prone to do this?
I have tried to increase the fan speed using riva tuner and precision, but neither program allows me to access to the fan speed utility.
I presume this is because its a laptop specific card... I also cannot find driver updates for this card from nVidia.
    Please help.....James

    Hi!
Are you using the Toshiba display driver? This is important because the manufactures driver dont have an overheat protection and so the graphic chip can be damaged.
Furthermore this could be also an overheating issue. So you should clean your notebook with compressed air spray that you can buy from a local computer dealer.
Last but not least I would not try to change the fan speed or something else. This will be controlled automatically.
    Bye

    Hello there, Goraksanat.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some good pointers for troubleshooting your issue:
OS X Mavericks: If an app freezes or quits unexpectedly

Additionally you can try an SMC reset as it is recommended for:
Applications may not function correctly or may stop responding after being opened.

  • My ipod 4g keeps overheating

ipod keeps overheating dont know how to fix it

    Staret with the bold
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IBook keeps going blank or doesn't turn on

I have an iBook G4 and it the screen has been going blank but the computer is still on. Sometimes it just won't turn on at all. I have been having to pull out the battery and reset it. I have repaired the permissions and emptied the Cache. Would my battery not holding a charge have anything to do with it. I have to keep the computer plugged in all the time, if not it goes dead within 5 minutes.

That is normal. Check out this Apple Knowledge Base article on the subject:

I would suspect a faulty logic board in the iBook.
