My iBooks won't sync PDF information

I've been dealing with this for a long time, for some reason my iBooks on my iPad won't sync PDF information when I update it in my iTunes (i.e. change/add the authors name). When I look in the books section of my iPad on the dropdown in iTunes, the PDFs for which I've changed information just stay gray with a that "recycle" type symbol to the left, even after the sync is done. I can still open the PDFs in iBooks but it just won't let me change the information as to better organize them. This is incredibly frustrating and any advice would help greatly.

It wouldn't with me either. In fact I lost the pdfs from my iPad after changing their names in iTunes and syncing. Then I found you also have to go to the 'books' tab in iTunes and set 'SyncBooks' to 'All Books', and they all appeared back in the right collection. However, that only worked once. I've renamed some more, and possibly some again, and nothing happens. But at least this time I'm not losing files from my iPad.

  • TS1702 iBooks won't load PDF files any more on my Ipad2. Anybody seen this one before?

    Hello All,
iBooks won't load PDF files any more.
I have a lot of PDF files so I thought I reached a maximum number of files or space so I deleted a lot of old files but this did not help.
I rebooted, synced, updated, restarted, etc. - everything that I can think of and I still have the same problem.
I don't remembered the last file that I loaded into iBooks, as I usually put them into collections.
I can still load PDF files into other applications like PDF Reader, but I prefer to have them all in iBooks.
    Anybody seen this one before?
    I have 64GB iPad2 and I have over 14GB free space.

There have been several threads on this topic over the last few weeks. It's not clear what the issue is, and it is not universal, but tend to effect users storing large numbers of PDFs in iBooks. Possible it has some thing to dowith capacity of the app, or specific characteristics of some of the PDFs.

  • IBooks will not sync PDF collections with my IPhone. It syncs the collection title but not the content?

My IBooks will not sync PDF content with my IPhone. It syncs the collection title but no content. Both devices are set to sync collections? Any ideas how to fix this?

The 'sync collections' setting does not copy books or PDFs between devices - all it does is if you have the book on both devices and you move it into a collection on one of them, then it will be put into the same collection on the other device.
You will need to sync each PDF that you want on your phone. If you don't currently have them on your computer then connect your iPad to your computer's iTunes and do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases to copy them over (that should copy PDFs and/or epubs that are in the iBooks app, not just actual ibooks), and if using a Mac with Mavericks on it do File > Move Books From iTunes in the iBooks app on it, and you can then sync them to your iPhone.

  • My IBooks won't sync to my IPod

My ebooks won't sync on to my IBook app on my IPod. I have tried syncing, removing ibooks and replacing it, deleting ibooks then redownloading it, selecting all the books on "my ipod" book tab and syncing, updating ibooks, nothing works. My books show up on itunes and "my ipod" book tab but will not sync on my ipod. Other than downloading every book again I don't know what to do, any suggetions?

Thank you gadgetgurl for your reply.
    The problem fixed itself somehow.
After my problem started I updated my IBooks, some of my books were syncing while most of them didn't. Every other sync had added another book that was syncing. I guess the books were (very) slowly downloading to my ipod, but my latest sync actually worked.
I still don't understand why it happened or how it was solved, so if anyone knows what happened please explain so that should it happen again I can fix it. And did updating my ipod/app after the problem happen have anything to do with the solution?

  • PDF files on iPad's iBooks won't sync with iPhone's iBooks

I have many downloaded PDF files saved in my iBooks app on my iPad.  They are work documents so nothing that I purchased from the store.  I have everything set to sync in my iBook settings, but when I look in iBooks on my iPhone, only the folders synced, not the actual documents.  Is there a way to get them to sync?

Even though they aren't iTunes purchases you should be able copy them from your iPad to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases (File > Devices > Transfer Purchases if you have iTunes 11 on your computer) - you can then sync them to your iPhone.
The sync bookmarks and sync collections settings won't copy items between your devices, it will just keep the the books/PDFs that you have on both devices in-line with each other e.g. if you have a PDF on both and you move it into a collection on one device then it will put into the same collection on the other device.

  • Add PDFs to new iBooks won't sync to iPad

Since Books were shifted from iTunes to iBooks in Mavericks, I have been unable to add new PDFs to my iPad.
They appear in iBooks on the Mac.
They can be deleted from Mac, though they don't delete from the iPad. They just move from the collection they were in to PDFs.
I have the "Sync bookmarks, highlight & collections across devices" preference ticked on the Mac and "Sync Collections: on in IBooks settings on the iPad.
Am I missing some other setting or is this a genuine fault?

    Hi All,
One last attempt at explaining how this is still working for me, with a clarification on my 9 Dec post: All books works better than Selected Books.
    1. Open iBooks on your Mac, go to Preferences, then in General make sure check box next to Sync is ticked
    2. Select Collections from top menu in iBooks, then select PDFs from the side bar, and drag your new pdf into the main window (of PDFs). If you drag it to another collection it goes to PDFs anyway. You may move it to you chosen collection then.
    3. Open settings on you iPad and swipe to iBooks on the sidebar.  I have both Sync Bookmarks and Sync Collections slider buttons on (green colour visible).
Also check at the top of the main window if it says IBOOKS 3.2 (2038). Perhaps if you have an older version installed on your iPad, you could go to iTunes & App Store setting & select AUTOMATIC DOWNLOADS for Apps, or open App Store, select Updates on the bottom right & manually update iBooks.
    4. Close iBooks & open iTunes. Plug in your iPad and immediately stop it from syncing (if it is set to do this automatically). Then click the iPad button, showing the menu items: Summary, Apps, etc. Click on Books. With  the sub menu Books and PDF files selected under Books, tick the box Sync Books and Select the button All books.
    5. Click Apply (bottom right), then click Sync (same position). Hopefully your new pdf will appear in your chosen collection in iBooks on the iPad!

  • IBooks won't display PDF's in iTunes

Hey everyone. I'm having trouble making PDF's appear under iBooks in iTunes. It was working great Friday morning and now I can't. I use it to scan my quizzes for school Is anyone else having this issue?
I'm using iTunes 10.6.1.7 on Windows 7. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it also.
I am attaching a screen shot of what's appearing.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance!
    -Guillermo

I tried it at work at that seemed to do it. I still can't add them through the File -> Add FILE/FOLDER to LIBRARY option though.
I will try it also at home.
    Thank you for the suggestion!
EDIT: It was an ID10T error on my part! D'oh!!
I forgot to convert the scans to PDF. So I was trying to transfer JPEGS.
    My mistake.
    Thank you again!

  • IBooks won't open my PDF files after I did a sync on computer.

I have an IPod Touch 4th generation. My IBooks won't open any of my PDF files after I did a sync on computer. I have updated all software, reset iPod from a previous backup, re sync with itunes on computer, and I have reset all settings, it still won't work. Any suggestions??

Please close all apps from multitasking.
Download the iPad manual from here http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1595/en_US/ipad_user_guide.pdf
That should be a known good file from Apple. See if you can open that in iBooks.
If you can open the manual the other PDF files are unreadable/corrupt.
If you are unable to open the manual the issue is with iBooks. Delete iBooks and reinstall the app. Make sure you have  backup of your pdf files first.

  • Syncing PDF files into my iPad Mini, but will not show in iBooks

I am trying to sync PDF files into my iPad Mini but it will not appear in the iBooks app on my iPad Mini. I have tried to unselect the book and reselect, sync all or sync selected through iTunes. Still have not figured it out! There is 9.75gb left on my iPad Mini which is more than enough space for the PDF files.
    Please help!
    Thanks,

  • How to sync pdf in ibooks

    Hello,
This should be simple, but somehow it doesnt work for me: When copying pdf in ibooks, and organising them into collections, the pdfs are not synced between my different apple devices. The collections are synced, but only the titles, without the pdfs in it!
What am I doing wrong or is there a way to enable pdf syncing in ibooks between different devices?
    Thanks a lot
    Christian

PDF's won't sync, only purchases from the store will do that.

  • Ibooks won't fully sync from iOS to Mac & iOS

I'm rebuilding my data assets from backups after a corruption calamity. Almost all is well. I've got some PDF's in iBooks on an iPad and think the best way to install on an iPhone and Mac is to sync.
I created a new sidebar category 'Documents' and successfully moved the PDFs from 'PDF' to 'Documents on the iPad.
'Documents' appeared on the Mac and iPhone in the Categories sidebar of those devices' iBooks... However, the PDF's are not loading into 'Documents' on either device.
I'm not sure what to do in order to have those PDF's load. Obviously all 3 devices are linked to my iCloud account as the word 'Documents' popped up from the iPad's iBooks app to the iPhone and Mac...
    Any thoughts folks?

    Howdy Ed,
If sounds like you have some PDFs on your iPad that are not syncing to your iPhone or Mac.
Do you have all devices set to sync collections?
Sync iBooks between devices - Apple Support
Keep your books up to date across your devices
If you start reading a book on one device, you can pick up right where you left off on another device. Collections, highlights, notes, and bookmarks sync across all of your devices. Select these settings to sync:
On your Mac, open the iBooks app and select iBooks > Preferences > General. Then, select "Sync bookmarks, highlights and collections across devices." This setting is on by default.
On your iOS device, go to Settings > iBooks. Then, select Sync Collections and Sync Bookmarks and Notes. (In iBooks 3.2 or earlier, select Sync Collections and Sync Bookmarks.)
If you don't see all of your information on all of your devices, check the settings:
Make sure that you turned on the above sync settings on all of your devices.
Make sure that you're using the same Apple ID in the iBooks Store on all of your devices.
    And more detail:
iBooks: Viewing, syncing, saving, and printing PDFs on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
Using Sync Collections with PDFs in iBooks
If you turned on Sync Collections, iBooks will keep your PDFs (and non–iBooks Store books) in the same collections across all your iOS devices and Mac (if you're using OS X Mavericks). For example, if you have the same PDF on all your devices, when you move that PDF to your Sci-Fi collection in iBooks on your iPhone, that PDF will appear in your Sci-Fi collection the next time you open iBooks on your iPad.
    Take care,
    Nubz

  • IBook cannot auto sync revised PDF file

I have revised a PDF file in my MacBook.  But iBook do not sync the updated file to my iPhone and iPad.  Anyone can help?  Thanks.
    julius

Some more information. The PDFs from outside world can transfer to iPad over USB connector without problem.
When I opened iTunes, clicked iDevice on the left side, go to Books tab on the right side,  I can only see the PDF from apple store. Then I go to the Books heading under iDevice on the left side, I can see all PDFs in the list including those from outside world.
When I go to Books heading under Library, where shows PDFs on my mac in the right side, and drag an apple PDF from there to the iDevice on the left side, I can see a  green "plus" sign along with the red number sign. Then the sync happens. But when I'm dragging a non-apple PDF, I didn't see the green "plus" sign, so I cannot sync it.
I think this might be an intended design for iTunes. But then why it allows syncing over USB connector? Hope I can find some explanation for this.
    Thanks.

  • Tried to sync iPod Touch, noted "new" iTunes. iPod won't sync ("iTunes is unable to load data class information from Sync Services"). Tried the fix, but iTunes hangs when I try to open Preferences.

Just tried to download new audiobooks to my iPod Touch 3, and noted new iTunes. iPod won't sync ("iTunes is unable to load data class information from Sync Services"). Tried to Reset Sync History per Support Article, but it didn't work. My purchased audiobooks are also gone from my iTunes Library.  Any fix, or is my best bet to uninstall new iTunes and reload earlier version??

  • ITunes 10 - No longer sync PDFs to iBooks on iPad

Immediately following the upgrade to iTunes 10, I can no longer sync PDF's to my iPad (v3.2.2) for use with iBooks. Is anyone else having the same issue and even more importantly, has anyone resolved this?

Appears that in order to fix this you must delete all of your PDF documents out of iTunes and re-add them to your library.
I attempted rolling back to iTunes v9.2.1 to resolve this and the issue carried on to that version so I'm not sure what the true cause would be. Especially given that the iTunes 10 and iTunes 9 libraries were completely separate (utilized a backup copy of the v9 library for the v9 installation).
Hopefully an official "fix" for this will come out in future versions.

  • PDF loaded into iBooks will not sync back to iTunes

I accessed a PDF on the web from Safari on my iPhone 4s, then opened it in iBooks.  Then I connected the iPhone to my iMac and synced with iTunes.  I was expecting the new PDF to sync back to my iTunes, but that did not happen.
Am I to assume that PDF files loaded into iBooks on my iPhone or iPad will NOT sync back to iTunes?
    -Thanks

It was VERY difficut, but I finally did it!
First I was annoyed because I couldn't get the PDFs to show in my iTunes Library.  As near as I can tell, performing a backup of my iPad did that.  In the past 'Transfer Purchases' did the job.
What nearly drove me bonkers was getting the content of my iBooks Library to sync to the device.  There was just no way to do it.  Not my PDFs and not even the purchased books!   I tried to get the Library on the left and my iPad on the right so I could drag and drop.  NOPE.
I played around a while and finally got both to show on the screen so I could drag and drop.  STUPID
What I think worked for me:  I started in Music Library and clicked on the +Add to icon on the top right.  This pulled up my iPad for drag and drop.  Then I switched the button on the top left from 'music' to 'books'.  Finally I could remove or add my content to iBooks.
It worked perfectly before, why did they change it!
The music App makes me drag and drop, which I never had to do before.  All I had to do was check or uncheck songs in a playlist and sync the playlist.
    Apps works fine, no complaints.
    Podcasts, another fine mess...
I noticed Video was fixed when I went back in.
Oh, the kicker, my iTunes is not responding today.
