I've had the same problem a couple times now. Firefox seems to magically update itself anytime my computer gets unplugged and shuts down; when I restart my computer it loads a new update to firefox and voila! no internet access. Does it tell you that Firefox is configured to a server that's not accepting connections? I found what looks like a maybe promising solution here- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firewalls - under "Windows Firewall" (which may be my problem) but if that's not it the only thing I've found to do is, using my husband's computer (which he never seems to delete install packages from) load the files for Firefox 3.6.3 onto an SD card and keep it handy. It's irritating, but it works. If you need the installer package, let me know and I'll email it to you.

How do I roll-back to the previous version of Firefox? An auto update occurred and now one of the programs used at the office (ACT! v6.0 SwiftMail) won't run with the browser.

The office I work in uses a very old version of ACT!, an accounting package. This package has a component called SwiftPage, an antiquated email system that enables us to email from the ACT DB. SwiftPage runs via the web browser.
Firefox just did an auto update (that I will have to find out how to turn off) and now SwiftPage won't run as it is not compatible.

Many add-ons do in fact work if you force them to run. The procedure to roll-back is given in this article: [[installing previous versions of firefox]]
Unfortunately the official Firefox policy is that you downgrade to 3.6 which is supported for a while longer, and not the now unsupported Firefox 4. If after installing and running the ''add-on compatibility reporter'' you still have problems there are ways around the official policy.
I think it is absurd that Firefox 4 may be used by tens of millions of users one day and a few days later those that upgrade to Firefox 5 should be not only told not to use a now unsupported browser, if they need to revert due to problems, but are actually obstructed in attempts to do so. I googled the problem I was having and found many other users with the same issues, to which there were some suggested causes and solutions. Unfortunately none of those corrected the severe freezing problem which could take up to 10 minutes to clear. Firefox 4 beta 9 has automatically installed, via "Help > About," version 4 beta 10, afterwards I have installed the desired language packs. Directly after the installation and the restart of Firefox – with all the tabs reopening that were open before Firefox installed 4 beta 10 - the problem with the returning point persisted, only after closing Firefox and opening it again the problem had disappeared – but this time only one new tab opened, no longer the tabs that were open when I closed Firefox!
As far as the problem with the WMP plugin is concerned: I suppose that the recognition of the installed plugin by Firefox might fail if not all browser windows are closed during installation; in any case, the installation succeeds if you deinstall the plugin with wmpfirefoxplugin.exe and then install it again.
My menu language currently is still Italian, but the language for displaying pages has changed to French although the order for my preferred languages for displaying pages is still Italian / French / English / Spanish! By the way - how can I switch now between the installed menu languages during one session? I couldn’t find anything in the options like “Choose your preferred language for the menu bar”; it would be logical to place it directly under the button “Choose your preferred language for displaying pages” (or only one single button “Choose your preferred language for displaying pages AND menus”!

I really don't like the new version of Firefox, when are they going to change it back? The idea for this layout is worse than mircosofts Vista mistake.

It's not that I don't like change, in fact I love it. However, the way tabs open and new windows open needs to go back to the original format. Sure it's a fancy transition but it is more annoying than nice. I never complain about things like this, in fact this will be my first ever complaint about a browser, I quit using explorer, and it looks like I'm going to start again until they change the format of this upgrade. I will not get use to it, I refuse to and everyone else I know feels the same way.

This solved my problem but in upgrading when layout changes occur there should be some kind of forewarning telling those who upgrade, those steps as a precaution. So we all don't go "insane" and start posting our frustrations. Last question, I noticed that uploading pictures has issues too, you can't select the picture and hit shift to select others

How can i get rid of Beta and go back to the earlier version?

Where is the link/command to uninstall the beta version i agreed to try a few weeks ago?
Among other issues:
i can't read the pale-on-pale buttons and tabs;
crashes regularly;
creates random pop-ups that block my work and cannot be removed.
(i do not want help to make it work better. i want it off my computer, please!)

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs.<br />
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />

When you demand FF users update, at least have the honesty to add a relevant warning: "Upgrading from your present version of Firefox will lose all your history and it will probably drop some or all bookmarks and plug-ins need upgrading"

Okay, I found the prior version of DesktopManager for Mac in one of my old backups from March of this year. The new 1.0.3 dmg has an uninstaller next to the installer. I am going to remove 1.0.3. from all of my computers, and install the prior version, and set the preferences for do NOT (NEVER!!!) upgrade / update!

So -- did it work? I've heard people have gone back to the previous version and mysteriously, the syncing problems followed along, even though they weren't there before v. 1.0.3.
BTW, where do you find the uninstall piece on the application? I looked for it once and didn't find it where I thought it would be.

That issue can be caused by corrupted cookies.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

To do this in iMovie 11. use the SHARE menu. Share your project using the Share menu and choose Export Using QuickTime.
In the Dialog box that comes up, choose Sound to AIFF, or one of the other sound options. This will create a file that you can drag into iTubes.

You asked about Pages 5.5.2.
That Preference does not exist in Pages 5.5.2, you have to use Pages '09.
To get rid of Pages 5.5.2 just drag it from your Applications to your trash, but be warned that any documents you created in Pages 5.5.2 will first need to be Exported back to Pages '09 format to0 be opened in Pages '09.

I Have a slideshow that tends to stop and go back to the homepage instead of running constantly like it used to

This just started this week - each time I access an app - even Safari is just stops working and reverts back to the desktop? Is anyone else seeing this as well?

Try closing all of your apps completely and then see if they work when you re-open them : from the home screen (i.e.not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
For Safari you could also try clearing it's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (and Clear History)

Slideshows Music stops and goes back to the beginning

Just today i created a couple of slideshows with my new MBP and the problem is that in both slides shows, music stops in the same moment and goes back to the beginning, although slideshow continues going on.
Each slide show has a different song, but this happen at the same moment.
I have a MB and doing exactly the same slideshows with the same photos and music, I don't have this problem

I just read that converting the music to AAC files, will fix this.
But why is happening this???.
I mean, in my other Macbook i don't have this problem, same slideshow with the same music works perfect.
