  • Ipad disabled, connect to itunes

    hi all
my sister has decided to change the passcode on my ipad, and has forgotten it. The ipad has now been disabled as we have tried too many times to guess the password. It says "ipad disabled, connect to itunes" but when connected to itunes it says "Itunes could not connect to the ipad because it is locked with a passcode, you must enter the passcode on the ipad before it can be used with itunes"
what can i do to fix this?
    Thanks

Call Apple anyway. If the device was ever registered with then they will have the serial # on file and can look you up by other info such as your name or phone number.
To re-enable an iPad any computer with iTunes should work. However, if your data was not backed up to iCloud you will not be able to access it until you get back to your home computer.

  • IPad disabled, connect to iTunes message

I have a message "iPad disabled", "connect to iTunes". I have installed itunes in my laptop and tried to restore. The iTunes gives a message "Downloading 1 Item, IPad Software Update (x hours remaining)" and after some time say 30 to 40 % downloading iTune stops

If you regularly sync with iTunes or backup with iCloud you should be able to restore from a backup and then sync with iTunes to recover all of your apps and other purchased content. If you don't sync, or have never synced with iTunes, you will basically have to start all over again and download all of your content again.
If you have no backup, you are going to lose all of your app data and you will lose the photos in the camera roll.
This is my boilerplate response when someone is locked out of their iPad due to a forgotten Passcode.
You have to restore the device within iTunes. You want to use the same computer that you always sync with so that you can restore your app data and settings. You can restore with any other computer, but you will lose everything on the iPad.
    Instructions can be found here.

You will probably need to restore using Recovery Mode. You can read about it here.

    Or you can follow this.
    Recovery Mode Instructions
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off iPad: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for iPad to turn off.
If you cannot turn off iPad using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the iPad turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to iPad. When you reconnect the USB cable, iPad should power on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the recovery mode alert that iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode.
    Use iTunes to restore iPad.

  • Ipad Disabled connect to Itunes / Deceased Uncle

My family is in need of your help.
My Uncle passed away last week leaving my mom with the job of organizing his belongings. One being an Ipad.
We tried to access the Ipad, but are now stuck with a "Ipad is disabled connect to iTunes" screen that we cannot get rid of.
All we want is to get the photos of him, and any other documents he may have left for my mom or his daughter.
    The Problem:
    - My computer is connected to his iTunes account associated with the Ipad. (he had no personal computer besides his work computer)
    - The Ipad will not connect to iTunes on my computer. (When looking through his account it appears that it was never synced with any computer.)
             * a pop up window stating "iTunes could not connect to Ipad "Name" because it is locked with a passcode. you must enter your passcode on the iPad            before it can be used with iTunes". (the Ipad wont let us enter a passcode!)
I have even connected to his iCloud and checked if he backed up any photos or documents to it, which he has not. (he was not a tech savvy man)
Is there any way my family can access his Ipad without deleting all his photos and documents?
If you need any information that will help you help us; please ask.
Your help is much appreciated. Thank you.
PS: My mom told me that he probably started his Ipad at the Apple Store; could this help us recover the pictures?

The problem is that the iPad is not allowing me to type in a pin/passcode even though my computer is connected to the iTunes account associated with the iPad.
If you fail to enter the correct PIN you will get time delays between the next time you can enter an unlock attempt, they will pass eventually and you should be able to retry. It is also possible that he enabled the 10 failed attempts = erase device setting, so you should avoid trying randomly – once it is erased the decryption keys are deleted from the device, the OS is reinstalled & the previous data will be totally inaccessible.
    qcullen wrote:
It is just confusing... The iPad says connect to his iTunes account after messing up the pin so many times, but then requires the pin to actually recognize iTunes and bypass the pin. I mean if we knew the pin we wouldn't need to bypass it. This is a clear problem.
Sorry, but this is part of iOS's security model. The idea is to limit how easy it is to access data. If you could just 'turn the lock off' it would be pointless.
The problem here isn't iOS, but the fact that you don't have the PIN. I understand it is frustrating but you need to avoid the possibility of accidentally erasing (you can't know if the 10 attempts = erase setting is active).
Apple have been claiming that they are unable to access locked device since iOS 8 which is why I suggested exploiting a known flaw that could work. iOS 8.2 fixed the issue, but his device may still be on an earlier OS. I would power it off & hope he had auto updates turned off.
I hope the staff can help you at an Apple store, but I fear you may be disappointed.
