i'm trying to update to 4.3.4 but its giving me "iphone could not be updated this device isn't eligible for the requested build" . . . i dont know what going on . . anyone ?
SOLUTION FOR ALL.
This works. Thanks. The best way to do this is through the terminal. Just do the following commands in terminal:
Type sudo su
Press enter
Then enter your password and hit enter
Type vi /etc/hosts
Move your cursor with the down arrow to the line that has gs.apple.com without a # at the beginning of the line.
Move cursor to the beginning of that line.
Type i# then press the esc key.
Type :wq
Press enter
Type exit
Press enter
Now you can quit out of the terminal application. This likely is a problem caused by Tiny Umbrella denying itunes communicating with the apple servers. -

My ipod could't restore(this device isn't eligible for the requested build)?
why my ipod could't restore(this device isn't eligible for the requested build)
please help
i used ipod touch 4 ios 5.1From this article: iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
Error 3194: Resolve error 3194 by updating to the latest version of iTunes. "This device is not eligible for the requested build" in the updater logs confirms this is the root of the issue. For more Error 3194 steps see: This device is not eligible for the requested build above.
This device is not eligible for the requested build: Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194." If you receive this alert, update to the latest version of iTunes. Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, follow Troubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to perform unauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. First you must uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer, then edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from the hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart. Also, using an older or modified .ipsw file can cause this issue. Try moving the current .ipsw file, or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.

This fixed my problem. For the last year I could not update after iOS 4 was released, restore or restore from a back up on my iMac model from mid 2007 with intel. The only way around this problem was to use my old HP laptop to use my Apple products. After several phone calls to Apple support, nobody at Apple could figure this out. I was told I would have to pay Apple for the support because my iMac was not under warranty. I have searched the web on and off to try several different solutions and all except this one have failed. If others have found this, I must have missed it in the forums. I am only posting this to help anyone that has had this issue.Downgrading the iOS is not supported. Also if you have iOS 5 beta then I assume that you are a registered developer, in which case you should be posting in the confidential developer forums : https://devforums.apple.com/index.jspa

I tried to restore my iPod touch4 but iTunes shows "This device isn't eligible for requested build" so what can I do ?
I tried this way to set up hosts and restart my Mac but when I going to restore my iPod touch4 ,it still shows "This device isn't eligible for requested build"
Thanks for replied me
if anyone has same problem to open their hosts file, here is a short video and you have to type "sudo nano /private/etc/hosts" ,not "sudo nano/private/etc/hosts",remember there is a space between "nano_/private"
This video helps a lot which I just found and it is much easier to fix this problem

Whenever I try to do a update/restore to iOS 4.3.3 I get an error saying "this device isn't eligible for the requested build." This only started happening after I installed Xcode to enable the multitasking gestures, while on 4.3.2. Thanks.
Try manually downloading the update.
Here is the update for the iPad 1;
http://appldnld.apple.com/iPhone4/041-1010.20110503.ScEp3/iPad1,1_4.3.3_8J3_Rest ore.ipsw
After you have downloaded the update, attach your iPad to your computer, open iTunes and select your iPad in the devices list. Press & hold the Option/Alt key and click the Check for Update button. Browse to where you downloaded the update and Choose it. iTunes will handle the rest.
