My iPhone Nightmare

I'm choosing to write this message because I am a little bit angry right now at Apple, a company I had previously adored. I had a problem with my iPhone. The touchscreen had stopped working, a strip along the middle had stopped responding. My first stop was at ATT, but lets you and me be honest, you never go into an ATT store expecting anyone to be able to help; so it was no surprise when they threw up their hands and said, "not OUR problem, talk to Apple."
My next stop was at the apple store. After waiting there for over an hour and a half (that was fine, it was in a nice shopping center and I was able to walk around looking at expensive couches for a while) I was able to talk to Ben. Ben was helpful, and understanding; he informed me that my iphone had 3 days left on its warranty. HurraY! We swapped out the old phone for a refurbished one that was fully functional, but here is where the problems begin.
I get a message this morning from ATT fraud department. Apparently ATT is so surprised by the IDEA of a warranty, of helping a customer out, that me getting a new phone from apple raised a red flag of sorts, and could I please call them back.
I call them back at the number they provided. Keep in mind, this is the phone number that THEY LEFT ON MY MACHINE and still I have to navigate through 3 different touch-tone menus to get to a real live person. I spoke to a guy named Corey, who told me, "I have no idea why ATT fraud department called you today." Nice. There was nothing on my account, he said, that would indicate some sort of fraud. I asked if maybe someone else had opened another account and could he please search to see if another account had my name on it? He said he would need my full social security number to search for that, my FULL SOCIAL on a call that was solicited from them. (Note to self, if ever strapped for cash, leave messages on peoples machines, and then when they call back, ask for there SS#!)
So I call regular old 611 and talk to Adriana. Adriana seems to think that I bought a new iphone a few days ago, and extended my contract another 2 years. WHOA, no that's not right. So after talking with her for a while, and waiting while she talked to her superior, her superiors advice: Call apple, they can take care of it. In what crazy upside down world am I expected to believe that Apple can change my contract status with ATT??? At this point I actually have to raise my voice just to make them realize that, no, this is your problem, YOU call apple. This is all before breakfast mind you!
So she calls the Apple store and verifies that, yes, I did not purchase a new iPhone; but she says, she can't do ANYTHING ABOUT IT. She is powerless to help, only the vaunted and mysterious "upper management" can change my account. And they will get back to me on, wait for it, July 11th. I mention that, in my experience, this is just the sort of thing "upper management" tends to ignore, and could I please just talk to them.
"NO," says Adriana. There is no way you can call them, they only communicate through email. So I guess there is a hut somewhere on the arid plains of Africa where the upper management of ATT customer service live, unencumbered by the technology and cares of modern life, trained only to communicate through the written word. And I will hear back from them soon.
Why is this happening? WHY? I love the iPhone, it is a wonderful piece of technology, as long as ABSOLUTELY NOTHING GOES WRONG. Otherwise you send me to ATT, ATT sends me to you, and nothing, nothing gets done.
Your humble user,
Jeff

This isn't at&t's problem. For future reference, Apple handles ALL iPhone repairs or exchanges under warranty.
You can call AppleCare at (800) 694-7466 to handle everything over the phone in regards to a repair or exchange under warranty, or if an Apple Store is nearby, you can call and make an appointment so you don't have to wait when arriving at the store for support, or for a repair or exchange under warranty.
I don't like any of the automated voice services when calling a corporation - press 1 for this option, press 2 for this option, etc, which all corporations have these days.
Sorry to hear about your unfortunate chain of events, but your initial stop was due to being uninformed about Apple handling all iPhone repairs or exchanges under warranty, and not knowing you can call AppleCare, or make an appointment at an Apple Store so you don't need to wait when arriving. Some of the rest is due to the world we live in with the front line folks you are speaking with either not being up to speed, or being unwilling to take an additional step on their customer's behalf without being given a nudge in that direction.

  • 2.0 software on original iPhone - Nightmare

Any of you having any or all of these same problems now that you have 2.0 software?
    1) Getting a text message, clicking "Reply" and watching it sit, blank, on the screen, indefinitely, because it simply never loads the texts now?
    2) Getting a text message, clicking "Reply" and watching it sit, blank, on the screen until you get angry and start pressing buttons, THEN it appears?
    3) Waiting upwards of 5 to 10 seconds just for the "Notes" feature to allow you to do ANYTHING like type on it, or edit it?
    4) Using the Maps feature, clicking things, not responding, clicking again with your finger, waiting 5 to 7 seconds for things to respond?
    5) Trying to type, and something is just plain different. It doesnt flow as smoothly. It doesnt spell words correctly as often. It makes stupid mistakes and actually suggests NON words as you type. I used to be able to type the "F" word and now I get "rich" every time instead, or "fuch" which isnt even a word! Is it?
    6) Having to stretch just a little farther when you type because they spaced the keyboard keys a little further apart for all those people with fat fingers who complained...
    7) Trying to bring up your contacts, and immediately start scrolling, but you cant. Just simply cant. For 1 second, 2 seconds, 4 seconds, then l...okay now you can scroll ... and by that time you've already tried to scroll to "P" but kept trying and so it ends up on "Z" instead because it remembers all your finger actions while it was FROZEN?
This is crap. Nightmare. This thing has been downgraded in my opinion. If the original iPhone shipped like this, people would have complained to high heaven. Maybe this is their way of getting us to buy another phone (3G) with the "faster processor". Upsell technique?
Is anyone else having these problems? Any solutions you've found?
    Thank you!

Yea, I had the same problems. There are MANY threads on here listing the exact same problems. I took mine to the Apple Store and exchanged it for a new one with 1.1.4 installed. If the Original iPhone shipped like this they would have had a hard time selling them as the user experience is terrible.
Hopefully an update will be released soon to alleviate these problems...until then I'm sticking to 1.1.4. (and even if they do release an update I am waiting to see how it is received before I guinea pig it again)
The saddest part is that your backup is now in 2.0 so if you exchange your iPhone you will have to start all over as new. None of your "Notes", SMS's, Weather locations, Stocks, Bookmarked YouTube videos, Home screen shortcuts, Google Maps bookmarks ,email accounts or photo's will be saved. I suggest backing up the photos you took with your iPhone using iPhoto (or Windows Explorer) and writing down any important notes on, God forbid, paper. Everything else will have to be redone. Oh also make sure you sync your music purchased on the iPhone back to your computer (which it usually does by default) or you'll lose those too.
Terrible, terrible state of affairs this update has been. I just wish I knew why some people do NOT have, or seem to have problems. I ran the official update and used the restore feature several times but nothing worked. Maybe they just don't use the features enough to notice the difference but I use mine every day and, as I am quite the proficient iPhone typist, I noticed it almost immediately and it drove me crazy.
    I feel your pain!

  • IOs 7 iPhone nightmares.. comments to apple developers

The elegancy of the apple home screen is gone. We are now forced to use a cartoon..ish, phoney and child like screen that misses the point on the exclusiveness of an expensive equipment.  The icon colors are blinding and too transparent making them disappear. Home screen controi panel is too wide cutting off main screen.
The improved transparent screen is too bright alsmost hugh glare and although there is a control to dim brightness it simply does not work.
The iOs 7 update offers many features. However how were the features determined. This update seems extreme and offers no options to keep old wallpapers, home screens and simplicity. Worse there are no written or video tutorial instructions.  Settings alone have undefined categories that leaves users hanging why does this need changing or if function a is performed what will be the outcome. No logic, no instruction
Safari on the iphone does not provide user simple tabs. Tilt screens hitting several buttons on a small surface with adult fingers don't match. The ease of gliding back and forth is a balancing act.
Siri does not understand half of the commands I gave it 3 days ago. Instead when asked to search for item on web it gives tweets, facebook and other unwanted choices.
Calander is ithe worse layout. The monthly view reads like a post modernistic expression of an old fashion European style calander. No choice of color- red is too harsh on nuero-visual
Perhaps the only design / function improvement is the choice of font style and size. However, the change of font is limited to communication functions and does not improve web reading.
Accesibility functions have improvements. Even if users are not seeking modified handicap acessibile functions should try these settings.  Just like prior iOs the accessibility settings enable auto speak to help with spell check, speak selection to read anything outloud. Other accessibiilty functions reduce the stress of needing to find eye glasses, offers closed captioning and for those who find tapping speeds to slow or fast they can be regulated to personal gestures.

Safari on the iphone does not provide user simple tabs. Tilt screens hitting several buttons on a small surface with adult fingers don't match. The ease of gliding back and forth is a balancing act.
You can swipe left to close open tabs instead of using the tiny "x"
Perhaps the only design / function improvement is the choice of font style and size. However, the change of font is limited to communication functions and does not improve web reading.
For web reading you can use "Reader" in Safari. To the left of the address bar  will be an icon that looks like lines on a page. Tap that to open the page in reader mode.

hi..what settings work on iphone 4 - lineone mail server setup.. have tried Tiscali recommendations, which aren't biong picked up..nightmare..!
    Used Imap, Pop mail..!

Thanks for the quick read and response. Do you feel the issue might lie with the fact that it is a Mac Mini? And possibly just not powerful enough to run Leopard Server? I have to say in our trials with MacPro it was like night and day as to how they performed. And if you could elaborate on this "Many VPNs don't play well with NAT so your VPN server should have a direct connection to the public network (preferably firewalled, of course, but not NATted)." Most every SoHo and for that matter uses simple NAT translation for security even our multi thousand dollar Cisco PIX and ASA's are basic NAT devices to start with. How would you put the VPN on public net while keeping the attack surface low for the rest of the services like file, web, mail and print?
Don't get me wrong I want this to work more than you can imagine. We are so tired of supporting MSFT technologies that cost thousands a year in antivirus, antispyware, antispam and other malware protection for the enterprise. We know that Leopard has great potential but for an integrator, getting this system up and functional is not an easy task. And the worst part of it is every time we have called for support the tech always lets out a sigh when they hear we have run standard setup because they are not allowed to walk us thru the server console to make repairs. And have been told by 3 techs so far that this is a new product and the support avenues are not there for standard since it just supposed to work out of the box. But when it doesn't then ohh well. Which is sorta sad...

  • HT1688 I updated my iPhone 5C to the iOS 7.0.1 "bug fixes" update and it has made my phone glitch constantly and has just made it a complete nightmare. How can I go back down to iOS 7?

basically yeah, I updated my software because it said that iOS 7.0.1 was out as a bug fixes update and now my phone constantly glitches the **** out, its super slow, and it pretty much created more bugs than it did fix them. So how can I go back to iOS 7? because 7.0.1 is an absolute nightmare.

    Try updating to iOS 7.0.2.
Does your iPhone still have performance issues? Have you tried the basics?

  • ICal syncing from desktop to iPhone and iPad is a nightmare

I have a mid-2011 MBA running Mountain Lion, an iPhone 5C, and an iPad 2.
I use the Lightning add-on for Thunderbird for a calendar, but it is buggy. I really want to go back to iCal so I can have my calendar on my phone and on my iPad, but syncing is a nightmare. I cannot find any plain language information on the rationale behind why syncing works the way it does so that I can figure out how to make it work correctly.
    What I want:
iCal desktop to be my primary calendar and to sync all updates to my iPad and iPhone. If I add an update on my iPad or iPhone, I want it to show up on iCal the next time I connect my device to the computer.
    What actually happens:
iCal desktop is the secondary calendar. Anything that happens on the iPad and iPhone is more important. If I add an iCal event on the desktop app while I am connected to my iPhone and iPad, the events I create disappear because they do not exist on the iPad and iPhone. If I create them when the devices are not connected, when I do connect I either lose the events or they get triplicated.
I do not use iCloud to sync, only iTunes by checking 'sync calendars.' I have given up on ever making iCloud syncing work for anything. Last time I tried it, it just deleted all my books, music, movies, etc. (thank goodness for Time Machine backups) and quadrupled all my calendar events...
Can someone please take pity on me and explain how to make syncing

Can't edit posts for some reason and my post got truncated.
"... to make syncing work between my Apple devices. I am a savvy computer user and that this boggles me frankly boggles me."
    Thank you.

  • IPhone 4S activation NIGHTMARE, Apple problem, not AT&T

Got new iPhone 4S delivered on release day (Friday, Oct 14).  Activated without problem.  On Sunday, it quit working except when connected to wall charger.
On Monday, called AppleCare, hardware failure was problem.  Had choice to pay $29 for them to immediately send me another one, or, they would send me a box to mail in my broken iPhone, then they would send me a repaired or replacement iPhone 4S.  Opted for latter.  Drove 40 miles to AT&T store to get new SIM card for old iPhone 3GS, activated it in store.  Got shipping box for 1st iPhone 4S on Tuesday, mailed on Tuesday.  Got replacement iPhone 4S on Thursday, late in day.  Replacement was quick, no complaints.
Nightmare Friday:  ready to activate replacement iPhone 4S, about 5:00 PM called AT&T Business from my office phone to activate, had obtained IMEI & SIM card nos. from screen on new iPhone 4S.  I noticed, however, that the IMEI no. on the phone was different from the IMEI no. shown on the shipping box that replacement iPhone 4S came in.  Initially, the process went smooth until the time came for phone to actually activate.  It wouldn't.
After going through initial menu on iPhone to activate, I end up with message:  Device unknown   This iPhone is not recognized and cannot be activated for service.  Please visit your nearest Apple Store for more information.  The closest Apple Store for me is over 110 miles away.
Connected replacement iPhone 4S to MacBook Pro.  In iTunes, I get the following message:  There is a problem with your iPhone.  We're sorry, the iPhone you connected is not recognized and cannot be activated for service.  We recommend you visit your nearest Apple Store for more information.  To find your nearest Apple Store, click here.
I'm still on the call with AT&T.  They transfer call to AppleCare tech support.  Verified IMEI no. and SIM card no. off of the SIM card tray.  Technician advises that the IMEI no. is not in his system.  We figured out that this IMEI no. did not match the number on my shipping box.  Verified the serial no. from the SIM card tray, technician never advised me whether that number was in his system, but it also did not match the serial no. shown on shipping box.  We tried the hard reset procedure twice, same results and messages.  We tried to get it to work with the old SIM card from my 1st iPhone 4S, same results and messages.  Technician brought AT&T guy into the phone call.  Verified and re-verified all of these nos. several times, from the iPhone 4S screen and from the bottom of the SIM card tray, although I had to find a magnifying glass to see the numbers clearly, they are very small.  The AT&T guy repeatedly related that there appeared to be no problems on his end.  I was getting a cellular signal with 3G, which apparently was able to attempt activation over cellular airwaves.  Also tried activation over my wi-fi network and through iTunes.  We were on hold for what seemed forever while technician tried to figure out the problem.
During the call, I received several calls from family wondering what in the he[ck] I was doing and why I wasn't home yet to grill steaks!  This procedure should not have taken longer than 10-15 minutes, but it ended up lasting 3 hours and 10 minutes.  The call ended when I got another call from home and I forgot to hit the HOLD button for the call to AT&T/AppleCare tech when I answered the other line.  I opted to go home.  Steaks are still marinating, we ate McDonalds.  Had an e-mail from the technician, left him a voice mail, I think he went home.
Later this evening, logged onto my Apple account which showed my registered products by serial no.  They have listed my initial iPhone 4S which I sent in.  They also have listed another iPhone 4S with the serial no. shown on the shipping box, which is inconsistent with the serial no. shown on the bottom of the SIM card tray of the replacement iPhone 4S.  I initially tried to create a Support Case No. online using the serial no. from the iPhone, not the box.  Was quickly given message that that serial no. was not valid.
So, I find myself again with an inoperable iPhone 4S on a weekend and the only option to get my old iPhone 3GS activated again is to drive 40 miles to the AT&T store to get another SIM card.  With no prospects for getting an operable iPhone 4S any time soon, the nightmare continues.
I have been a dedicated user of Apple computers and products (iPods, iPhone, iPads et al as they came out) for over 20 years.  Never have I experienced a nightmare of this magnitude until now.  Up until today, I would never have considered the thought of being on the negative side of Apple's top-rated customer satisfaction.
One can only hope that someone in AppleCare Tech Support with the authority to resolve such problems reads these boards AND is willing to look into this without delay (like before our steak dinner Saturday evening).  Are you listening (reading)???

NIGHTMARE Finally Ends, after nearly two weeks.
After trying for over a week trying to get my replacement iPhone 4S to activate, I ended up driving 110+ miles to an Apple Store to get a second replacement, which had been specially shipped there for me.  Popped in the SIM card, went through the setup and I finally have an iPhone 4S that works, at least for the time being.
Advice to others who find themselves in this situation:
         1)     If you get these messages (see original post), the phone is bad.  Demand a replacement.
         2)     If the AppleCare tech advises that the Apple Agreement Administration team is investigating, you'll be waiting for a week or more for them to complete it.  Demand a replacement immediately, don't let them put you off indefinitely.
After the initial phone call documented in my original post, I was in daily contact, phone & e-mail, with the AppleCare tech trying to figure out the problem, and we tried everything, from forced restore's to switching SIM cards, conferencing w/ AT&T, etc.  It seems that this was a case of first impression to Apple, but if it wasn't, then the problem is not well documented or known by those who should know, and for that, the blame should be on Apple, not the AppleCare tech who worked tirelessly trying to figure out a solution--I'd send him a case of beer if I knew where to send it.

  • IPhone 5 and Verizon customer Service Nightmare Please help!

I need help with Verizon customer service. I would like to know if I am being unreasonable. Here is my story. I ordered an iPhone 5 from apple to add to my Verizon account. This will be my fourth line of service with Verizon. I spend over 200 dollars a month with Verizon. I ordered the iPhone on the first day it was available to order. I received my iPhone on Tuesday 9/25/12. The nightmare begins. I call Verizon customer service to activate service. I get bounced from department to department because they are unable to activate my phone. This goes on for about an hour. I then get to a nice young lady that was very friendly and worked hard to try to help me. We spend for hours on the phone speaking to all of her different departments and even calling apple care and apple directly. The problem is Verizon set my new line of service to start in the middle of October. After about 4-5 hours on hold with customer service I am told they can't activate my new phone until the middle of October because when the order was placed they set up my activation date wrong. They went on to tell me they could do nothing more and transferred me to apple as they said only apple can fix the problem. I spend the next two hours on the phone with apple. Apple class all their tech support and calls Verizon back and explains my phone is a working phone and Verizon is the one providing the service so this is definitely a Verizon issue. I am advised by apple that I need to call Verizon back to fix. At this point Verizon is closed as I have been on hold with reps past closing time. I call back to Verizon and get a really helpful customer service rep the next day. Spend two hours on hold with him and he gets my service turned on. He states they should have been able to help me with this yesterday and apologized to me. He advised I would have to call back the next day to change my phone numbers around. Total time invested today 2 hours. Total time invested so far over 8 hours. I call back the next day to get my numbers moved around. Takes about an hour. When we are done I ask if I can get a credit on my next bill for having to spend over 8 hours on the phone to fix Verizon's mistake. I am transferred to a very condescending manager who laughs at me and tells me in essence they don't care about my time. He offers me one day of service credit. I advise him this is unacceptable. He gives me an analogy that this is like me getting my electric turned off for not paying and then wanting a credit for the time it took to turn back on. He even laughed at me on the phone and told me he wasn't going to do anything. When I asked to speak to a higher up manager I was told no. My question is who do I advise to get this rectified, and is it unreasonable to expect a credit when I spent over 8 hours on the phone with Verizon to correct their mistake?  Pleas help!

Yes, don't feel it is as black&white as other posters here, but it is impractical.
What is the value of your time for example?  If you are not self-employed, were you still being paid during these 8 hours.  A court would consider actual economic loss, did you lose money during these 8 hours?   And do you/your employer pay customers in similar situations?  In my experience, you get credit based on the service (e.g. the 1 day credit) rather than being paid for your time.
And on the flip side, if I call up Verizon complaining that my phone doesn't work, and it turns out that I had forgot to charge it, do you want to be billed for the rep's time when it was your mistake?  (Of course, wireline DOES do this, if Verizon dispatches a repair tech and the fault is inside your house etc (without a wiring contract) you do get charged)
Certainly the one day credit is the minimum they should provide.  As others have said, your real recourse is to return the phone.

  • IPhone 3G S Nightmare

Hi everone just wanted to let you know my expierence with ordering the 3GS. So like most of you I was excited to hear about the new iPhone and jumped at the opportunity to have one in my hands come 6/19. My husband and I were upgrading from the original iPhone. We ordered both a white and black 16GB on Tuesday 6/9. Got the confirmation and everything. So everything looked good. Yesterday both phones had their status update to prepared to ship. Then 30 min later the white iPhone (my phone of course)went back to not yet shipped. So of course I called Apple and they tell me that AT&T is holding up the order. I call AT&T and they tell me that they are not holding up the order and that the line is elgible for the upgrade. According to AT&T they see that the other line was processed for the black phone and that this line does not have a order associated with it. They said Apple verified the upgrade eligibility and that was it. So back to Apple I go, then back to AT&T and so on. No one knows where the ball was dropped. I have talked to 20 people between yesterday and today.
Then today I get a email from Apple saying that the order was cancelled because AT&T did not approve the line. Now this is after I called AT&T and had them call Apple with me on the line. The Apple lady called to the sales department to see what was wrong with order and she stated on her end the order is still open and will be in my hands 6/19. So imagine my suprise when I got the cancellation e-mail. At this point I am beyond mad. I call AT&T and threaten to use the 199 that I would have spent on the phone and do a early contract termination. They gave me a 100 credit on my bill and really tried to help but it was on Apple's end. So here I am with no phone but will watch Fed Ex/ UPS pull up on Friday with my hubbies phone!! I called Apple again to see if I reordered when was the earliest I could receive it and he said next Friday. I explained the situation and he said that this has happened to a couple of people. My husband is going to get up early on Friday to go to a Apple store and try to get me a phone but you and I know that might be impossible since most sre not taking pre-orders etc.

That's the most miserable case i've ever heard of.
    good luck to you

  • Please help, I am having a nightmare with upgrading iphone 4

    Hello everyone,
My dad asked me to upadte his iphone for him and I just can't get it to work now.
I backed the iphone 4 up on itunes and then ran the update, initially when it had finished it wouldn't allow me to access my wifi so I looked that up and re-enetered the details and that is now working but it keeps asking me to either restore or set up as a new phone, I have restored from itunes while the sync is going through it stayes on a connected to itunes page and then just says connect to itunes so it looks like the restore doesn't work. Itunes seems to be going through the motions on the top bar but I just can't get off these white set up screens. What seems odd is that I disconnected the iphone and then reconnected it and it took me to iphoto and imported photos from the phone so there must be data on it. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Where did you get the phone? Sounds like it may have been hacked to unlock it. If it was originally carrier locked, ONLY the original carrier can authorize unlocking it.  FYI: The Gevey SIM is illegal in every country on the planet.
Hacked and jailbroken devices can NOT be discussed here per the terms of service.

  • [iPhone SDK] Multiple Apps and App ID nightmare

Maybe I don't understand this quite well or there's something wrong with Apple's Documentation.
I've setup a single App ID using an asterisk for all my apps: "com.me.*" and the resulting App ID is something like: "##########.com.me.*"
I've used this on two of my projects. When I try installing the two projects onto my iPhone, it uninstalls the previous app before installing the other! How can I have both Apps on my iPhone at the same time?
The "Organizer" window conveniently uninstalls the first app and always only shows a single app in the list.
    What am I doing wrong?

I would make sure that you did not set this app id in XCode. On the Developer Portal --> App IDs --> Manage tab it says:
"You are not required to enter your App ID into your Xcode project. Xcode will incorporate the App ID automatically."
I think you need a * at the end of your app id as well in the App ID configuration in the Developer Portal. You should have something like: 9AK2T6Z3YE.com.somecompanyorname.*
I believe you would enter in "com.somecompanyorname.*" in the second input box when creating an app id.

  • Nightmare with iPhone update! Help!

I changed mobile provider today, which resulted in me having to do an update in order to get my phone unlocked! I've avoided updates for fear of losing data up to now! I did a sync and backup but when it came to the 6 update I realised that instead of loading my data it's loaded my husbands data- his text messages, apps etc.
It's now called 'dads iphone' instead of 'mums iPhone' and I just can't find mums iphone anywhere. I went back to restoring to factory settings and trying again, but once again it saved dads I phone material!
I know that the data must be saved on windows xp but don't know how to save it to my phone?
I would really appreciate some help as loads lost, including texts, contacts etc!
    Thanks so much!

  • Why is my iphone 4 such a nightmare to sync lately?

I get hung up on the backup --- hours and hours, and it all seems to freeze up. I have recently updated to itunes 10.4.1.10
    Any ideas?

The iPhone 4 is not capable of running iOS 8. iOS 8 requires a 4s or higher.

  • Restoring new iPhone 4S from iCloud backup has created an app sync nightmare with iTunes

I've restored my new iPhone 4S from iCloud and plugged it into my computer to sync over the apps so they wouldnt have to redownload via iCloud. Hit the initial ok dialogue button, which had an auto-sync apps option checkmarked under it (this was the only dialogue option and only checkmark). Now iTunes wants to reload all apps and erase app data.
The phone is peforming as expected, downloading the apps one-by-one from iCloud, however, I won't be able to sync the phone, as leaving apps sync checked will rewrite all apps (erasing app data and adding apps I don't want on my phone), and unchecking apps sync will delete all apps from the phone. I've tried removing the ~/Library/iTunes/ folder, hoping it would force iTunes to re-initialize the sync config. This didn't help at all.
Any suggestions? I really don't want to re-restore from iCloud, but thinking I'm gonna have to and hope that not checking the auto-sync apps (when the phone is plugged in for the first time) will fix the issue. It's rather mindnumbing that there doesn't appear to be a less painful option for the simple task of setting up a new device from an old device iCloud backup. Ok, so this is pretty infuriating. I've gone ahead and restored from iCloud again. This time when I plugged my phone into iTunes for the first time, I unchecked the option to automatically sync apps. As expected, the Apps are not set to sync now, however, the computer does not display the apps loading on the phone, so if I did go ahead and turn on App sync, I would end up losing all app data. It appears that I will have to let all apps redownload from iCloud before I can do anything regarding syncing with iTunes. I can't believe this is the only option. I suppose I could turn off iCloud backup on my iPhone 4, allow it to create a local backup, then local restore onto iPhone 4S, then turn on iCloud backup. That seems a little too band-aidish to me, though.

Edit: Yes, I have 10.7.2 and all available system updates as of today (10/14/11).

  • Restoring new iPhone 4S from iCloud backup has created a sync nightmare with iTunes

The phone is peforming as expected, download the apps one-by-one from iCloud, however, I won't be able to sync the phone, as leaving apps sync checked will rewrite all apps (and add apps I don't want on my phone), and unchecking apps sync will delete all apps from the phone. I've tried removing the ~/Library/iTunes/ folder, hoping it would force iTunes to re-initialize the sync config. This didn't help at all.
Any suggestions? I really don't want to re-restore from iCloud, but thinking I'm gonna have to and hope that not checking the auto-sync apps when the phone is plugged in for the first time will fix the issue. It's rather mindnumbing that there doesn't appear to be any less painful options to setup a new device from an iCloud backup of an old device. Thanks in advance and I apologize if this is hard to follow.
