My iPod doesn't stay connected, it keeps ejecting and saying disconnected (4th gen iPod nano)

my iPod doesn't stay connected, it keeps ejecting and saying disconnected (4th gen iPod nano) and im trying to connect it to my new laptop to add music to it.

I had the same thing happen where the ipod would cycle between connected and ejecting and disconnecting, with the USB device icon appearing then disappearing is the application tray. I tried reinstalling iTunes, resetting the ipod, resetting the computer and tried it on another USB port then another computer and had the same thing happen. I was ready to take the ipod back to the store and thought I'd try it on my work laptop and it worked OK. The two previous computers were the same make and have 8 USB ports each, two on the front and 6 at the rear. I only tried the two front ports. After it worked on the work laptop I tried one of the rear USB ports on the original PC, which is a bit of a pain, but it worked. I ejected it and plugged it into one of the front USB ports again and I got the same cycling effect. Plugging back into the rear port and it was fine. I can only assume that some USB ports may be borderline with power requirements which the iPod is touchy on. I suggest if you experience this problem try the iPod on ALL your USB ports even if you have to move an existing USB device to another port.
I did read somewhere in the support area that an external USB hub that has its own power supply could help if the unit has issues recharging through a direct USB port so since this issue appears to be port related an external USB hub may be another solution. I personally haven't tried this but if all the direct ports on the PC exhibit this issue this may be a valid alternative outside of returning the unit. Hopefully someone may find this helpful.

  • IPod Touch doesn't stay connected to iTunes

I have two 4th gen iPod Touches.  They are both running iOS 6.0.1.  I have them connected to iTunes 11 wirelessly on my MBP (OS X 10.8.2), which is also connected wirelessly.  Everything goes through my Apple Time Capsule, which has a built-in router.  I also have an iPhone 4 and iPad 3rd gen connected.
For some reason, the iPods have a difficult time staying connected to iTunes on the MBP.  One in particularly will usually drop off before the 24 hour mark.  The other will hang around for a few days and then drop off.  When I check either iPod, I see the wifi icon in the top left.  Rebooting them causing them to appear back in iTunes on the MBP.
I did a complete reset/restore as new last night on one of the iPods and this morning it is goes from iTunes.  This is the one that usually drops off earliest.  Is there something particular to iPods that causes them to drop out of iTunes?

Since not problems with the other network that would temd to indicate a problem with Optimum network. You can try:
Do other devices now connect OK to Optimum?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem that indicate the Opitmum network is the problem

    HELP
Help needed to update a 4th gen ipod touch running version 4.3.5 (8L1) to the latest 6.0 version.  When I connect and try to update i keep getting a box which states that a connection error occured and I cannot update.
I have been given a new laptop for xmas which runs on windows 8, and the new itunes version (which is in itself a hurdle as I am a technophobe!) and this is all becoming a bit fustrating.
I have connected, updated and synced my iphone successfully, but just hit a brick wall on the ipod.  (which incidentally maybe where this laptop will end up!!)
Help if you can, but in laymans terms.......

Thank you for you input so far.....
I think we are getting nearer to the solution sort of!
Let me get this straight...... I have paid for content on itunes, bought the apple devicds in order to play said content, now I have to subscribe $25 for the privilage of playing MY library content on MY other devices. Which wasn't such an issue to do before the new and improved itunes version!!
Have I got that correct.  I think I cannot associate my other iOS devices with my library because I am unwilling to pay further through the nose!!!???  or am I missing something?
    Thanks
    Frustrated even more now!!

  • IPOD TOUCH NOT STAYING CONNECTED TO MY WIFI!!!!

my ipod touch wont stay connected to my wifi but my wifi is perfectly good and works for everything else. what do i do??

I would try resetting your Router, leave it off for 30 seconds and then turn it on again.
It may be running alright on your computers because it hasn't had chance to drop the connection yet. So try doing this, once it has fully been reset try connecting again.
Also, if your wi-fi is password protected, try clearing the password and type it in again.
    Hope this helps!

  • We use one windows machine and two mbp's (post 2012) at home. We have a modem *** router from a  non apple vendor that airport utility finds and connects with absolute ease. But doesn't stay connected. The signal drops often, what can I do?

We use one windows machine and two mbp's (post 2012) at home. We have a modem *** router from a  non apple vendor that airport utility finds and connects with absolute ease. But doesn't stay connected. The signal drops often, what can I do?

No, not all network clients -- only the two mac portables and they run together very rarely. The windows machine is hardwired to the modem router combo, and that's always sailing smooth. The mbp that is most used is perhaps 20 feet max from the router - and in another room. But it also happens when I take in into the same room as the router. On occassion, I have noticed while using network diagnostics, that one digit in the IP number sometimes appears to go awry. I then try to set up manually - and it works for a bit but is hugely erratic.
I rigged a hand me down airport express and set up a separate network for the two macs and it ran beautifully for some weeks, but that little piece is now dead and none of the retailers in my suburb seem to have one in stock. I don't want to be forced to buy an airport extreme and here in India, there's no trustworthy online ordering option.
The man from the ISP's been here several times and I don;t think it is a modem/dsl issue because the smartphone connects and the macbook drops when both are the same distance from the router? I am truly foxed and intensely irritated! :-(

  • Every time i try to sync my 4th gen ipod touch itunes won't recognise it and the ipod keeps beeping - is there anything I can do?

This is really frustrating.  Every time i try to sync my 4th gen ipod touch itunes won't recognise it and the ipod keeps beeping - is there anything I can do? I've tried using different cables. Itunes works fine with my family members ipod's & iphones...

The best way to manage your music when you have multiple iPods is to change the settings under "Options" so that you manually manage your music instead of it doing an automatic synch each time you connect.  To add only the songs you want, highlight them and then "click and drag" them to your iPod.  This way none of your daughter's music gets added and you're not in danger of deleting your playlist as well.  It will show you how many songs you've added and you can then click on your iPod to verify.  To delete her songs off your iPod now, click on the music tab under your iPod so show everything you have stored.  Find those songs you want to delete, click on them to highlight then go up to the Edit window and click delete. This will erase them off your iPod but be careful when you highlight.  I did that and then had to reload a cd on my boyfriend's, lol. hope this helps

  • New 4th gen ipod won't connect to internet

My sister just bought a new 4th gen ipod touch today. Everything works fine with it except for the internet. Now I own a 2nd gen ipod touch and my internet connection works just fine. Why doesn't hers work? I've tried turning the wifi on and off, and turning the airplane mode on and off as well. Our wifi only works through our computer modem. Is the ipod just not picking up the modem's signal or is something wrong with her ipod?

    - Does the SSID of your router show up in the list of networks available on the 4G iPod?
    - Have you tried resetting th 4G iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    - If SSID still  does not show up on the 4G but does show on and the 2G iPod then I would first restore the iPod from backup.  If still problems then restore the iPd to factory defaults.new iPOd
    - If still not SSID then you likely have a defective iPOd and should make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store or you could call AppleCare.

  • My 4th gen Ipod nano keeps getting stuck on the apple logo.

My 4th gen Ipod Nano keeps getting stuck on the Apple logo screen, this happens everytime I plug it in to charge. I plug it in, an apple logo comes up, and it stays like that the entire time its plugged in. To get it to unfreeze, i have to press random buttons and unplug and re plug in earbuds. After 20-25min of doing this it unfreezes and I come to find it has gotten little to no charge after being plugged in for hours at a time. Any one else have this problem, and if so what do you do?

This can be a corrupted software/firmware on your iPod touch. If the recovery mode you did was not forced, then try to force it into recovery mode. This is how:
    1. Force it to shut down (note: this sort of shut down should not be preformed unless you are in a situation like this because it is a hardware shutdown and will not attempt to unload software, save unsaved files, safely stop system processes, etc.) to do this, hold down the power/sleep button and home button for about 7 or 10 secs. Also I might be incorrect but I heard that you can just hold down the sleep and home button until the screen goes blank and then immediately let go.
    2. Have iTunes running. Hold down the home button and plug the USB cable that came with your iPod into it. Keep on holding on the home button until a picture of a USB cable going into the iTunes logo appears. You are now in a forced recovery mode. (In case your not so tech-savvy forced recovery is the same as a normal recovery mode that an iPod might do if it knows an update or restore failed.)
    3. iTunes should have shown a pop-up message about it found a iPod in recovery mode. Click OK, click your iPod from the sidebar and click restore. The iPod will show the apple logo for a while and iTunes will say "preparing iPod for restore" and then "waiting for iPod" this was the longest part of updates for me.
    4. iPod will reboot when restore is completed. When I update my iPod it one time showed the apple logo for one whole sync until it showed the slide to unlock screen, so do not worry. P.S if that does not work do a DFU mode restore ( I've been told DFU mode stands for device firmware update mode) I'm running out of room, so google it. Hope this helped ;)

  • 4th Gen iPod will not mount or connect to Windows

Hi, one of my iPods will not connect to Windows XP. Its a 4th Gen 40gb non photo iPod
The iPod still plays and works "normally" as a portable device (ie I can play music), but I cannot connect it to my pc at all.
When I plug it in via either USB or Firewire ports the iPod disc whirrs and gets stuck in a loop (that can last over 2 hours plus) before i need to reset it in order to disconnect it from the pc.
When I connect, it doesn't launch iTunes as it should.
It doesn't appear in My Computer.
It doesnt appear in Computer Management>Disk Management
Latest iPod updater cannot read it (even when put in disk mode) and tells me that it can't mount the iPod.
Also, the iPod has since started to mess my PC up - it will not allow the PC to boot up with the iPod connected. If I connect the iPod to the PC with iTunes already launched it causes iTunes to freeze and crash. When I go to restart the PC, Windows will not shutdown.
Getting sick now - any ideas please (besides throwing it out the window!)?
It's weird how the iPod still plays, but it will not connect to the PC when my other 4G 30gb photo and Shuffle will.

I have tried resetting and restoring the ipod before, and I have put it into disk mode too (in order to restore it) but the ipod updater said it could not mount it
However, I did try Deanz advice by putting it into disk mode whilst attached to the mains and then connecting it to the PC has at least enabled me to see it in "My Computer" for the first time as (the "F" drive), even if iTunes is not recognising it.
However, when I attempt to see the ipod in Disk Management I get the same problem outlined above in an earlier post (grey screen).
If I try to browse the iPod via My computer that task freezes. Task Manager claims the function is "not responding"
    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Anyway, all my music is backed up so that's not a problem. The iPod works, but I can't update it so it could be worse. Not really sure how to remap the iPod to a different drive letter
[edit] During the process of closing down the non-responsive "My Computer", Windows had a major gimp out and completely froze me out until I reset the ipod an put it back into disc mode (again). Then Windows reappeared in the same state before it crashed. I suspect this is due to some kind of conflict with the iPod as it has done this a few times now since my iPod started acting up (and only when the iPod is connected).
Thinking of some elaborate home insurance claim now..............

  • HT1430 My 4th Gen iPod touch will not turn, doesnt charge, and i can't reset in computer because it says it is protected by a passcode, but i cant enter pass code because the screen stays black and won't even light up... What do I do

My 4th gen iPod Touch has had a blank screen for about 3-4 weeks now, it will not turn on, sync, or charge. iTunes recognizes its plugged up, but i cant reset it because it says its passcode protected, but i cant enter passcode due to screen not lighting up or working. How do i fix this?

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
