A windows error message appears saying iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to shut down.
let's get a crash log from itunes, and send it to the Apple engineers for a look.
Typically, you'll need to configure Dr. Watson on your PC in order to generate crash logs. Windows start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return. At the prompt in the command line window that comes up, type in
drwtsn32 -i
And hit return.
This will create crash logs in Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\. There'll usually be a file in here called "drwtsn32.log"
prior to collecting the itunes crash log, delete any existing crash logs in there. (we want to make sure we send the correct crash log.)
Generate the crash, collect the crash log, and and send it as an attachment to this email address.
in the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:
- A link to the thread on Apple Discussions where the issue is being discussed
- The username you are using in the thread
- The version of iTunes you are using or trying to use
- the version of Windows you are using (mention service packs)
- A concise description of the issue you are seeing
- The exact text of the error message you are seeing

I had an episode of a tv show series on my IPOD NANO 8GB. How do I get the other episode that I had on there first back on to my IPOD NANO 8GB with the new episode on my ipod?  Please Help Soon.

    Hello Lisa,
Double check your iPod's sync settings from under it's TV Shows tab in iTunes.  Make sure it is not set up to sync only unwatched episodes.

  • When I connect my phone iTunes tells me that I need to uninstall and reinstall a 64-bit version.  I have the 64-bit version installed.  Help

I have been fighting with iTunes for the past few days.  My wife deleted a file by "accident" and I have been working to get iTunes to work ever since.  I have worked through numerous issues and managed to work through them all, but have now hit one that I can't and that I can't find a solution elsewhere.  I have done the complete uninstall (complete meaning, very complete) and reinstall of the 64-bit version of iTunes several times now.  The software works fine until I plug in my old iPhone (4).  When I do, the software popps up with a message that says that I have the wrong version of iTunes and need to uninstall my current program and reinstall the 64-bit version.  Anyone else out there had this happen and if so, what did you do???

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, does your device connect without that message now?

  • Problems with iPod Nano 6th Gen Playback & Updating

Hi. I have had a look and can't find another post on this - apologies if I have missed it!
My problems start before I purchased my new Nano 16GB last week.
When the last update of iTunes came available, I was unable to install it. The task bar would get to about 50% (although it varied) and would then time out. When I had this problem I tried everything from every forum imaginable, from deleting all Temp files, disabling the firewall and all start up applications and clearing the registry – everything. Nothing worked. Eventually I decided that I should uninstall, then install the new version.
After a week of the same problems trying to install iTunes, I gave up and downloaded on another computer, and saved the .exe file to a USB stick. This worked until two days after I downloaded it, yet another update came out and I had to start all over again (I didn’t – I am running on 10.1.2.17 still).
I was concerned when I purchased my new Nano that I would have problems connecting it to iTunes as I was not running the new version – but it was okay. Unfortunately, the iPod requires update 1.1 and I am also having the same problem with this – I get time out error 3259 after sometime trying to download it. And yes, I have tried all the same tricks, but nothing seems to work.
I am running Vista on a Dell PC, and connect to the internet on a pre-pay internet USB dongle. I can download updates for other programmes, and other files successfully – it is only iTunes that I am having an issue with. ITunes is added to my list of accepted programmes on my firewall, but I disable that when I am downloading.
Meanwhile! My new iPod is fantastic. Unfortunately I am experiencing an odd problem with it, and cannot seem to find other people with the same issue. The memory is not overloaded (it has 1.10GB of free space on it). I have 1857 tracks on it, and 14 podcasts. I play the music files through the ‘Songs’ menu, on Shuffle mode. For some reason, after playing one or two tracks, it doesn’t seem to want to play the next one. The track will be displayed on the screen, but it does not play. When you look at the song progress bar, it shows that it is part way through the song, but it is not moving. I have tried pressing ‘Pause’ followed by ‘Play’ and nothing happens.
The only way to get it to start playing again is to skip to the next track, but even this has its issues. Sometimes, when you skip forward a track, it plays a completely different track to the one that is displayed. When you look at the progress bar for the song it is showing, it isn’t moving, but music is still coming out!
Does anyone have any idea what the issue is, and how I can get the machine to play continuously without having to handle it several times? Please?!

    Hi dianak22!
I have an article here that can help you troubleshoot to resolve this issue:

  • IPod Nano 6th Gen. How do I get it to play songs through my car in album order instead of each song in alphabetical order ?

Basically I've got a Volkswagen Passat which allows me to play an MP3 player through the radio system. I also own a iPod Nano (6th Generation) which I'm hoping to use in my car. Have just tried it now and it seems to just want to play my songs in alphabetical order instead of each album in order. Is this something I need to change on my iPod or in my car ?

    Hi wisdoms2,
It sounds like the settings may be set to play the same song over and over.  Check out the chart on page 21 of this user guide and see if that is what is causing the issue:

  • My IPod touch 4G's volume and lock buttons have been not working properly What should I do that isn't too costly

My iPod volume and lock button have not been working right ever since its battery died it did start to work again but then it stopped working. I'm very confused about how I should go about fixing this please help.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device As best you can). Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
If not under warranty or abused
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

  • IPod nano 6th gen shuts down instead of Sleep

I've recently acquired an iPod nano 6th generation and it has an issue that's killing me inside: instead of turning off the screen, like the Sleep function, every one minute or so the iPod shuts down. It's not exactly the same as turning off completely, but everything I'm doing at the time stops, including music. The big deal is that this happens automatically, so it's nearly impossible to listen to anything. I've tried to press the Sleep/Wake button while listening to music, but it happens the same issue, even if the User Guide says it should be quite the opposite...
I don't think it's a battery thing because the battery is full and the iPod works normally as long as I keep touching the screen everytime. I gained it yesterday, so it's brand new. The only different thing I did was to use my own headphone (a Pioneer SE-MJ31) instead of Apple's, because I can't use earbuds. But if the music DOES play (and it does it well) then it's compatible, right? And it also doesn't seem that a headphone could cause this.
Does anyone had this same issue and/or knows what to do?
    Thanks in advance

Make sure the headphones are plugged all the way in, meaning no silver from the headphone's plug can still be seen.  You should hear a sort of clicking noise when inserted the headphones to signal that they have been fully seated.  The white part of the headset should be flush with the body of the Nano.

  • My ipod nano (6th gen)'s music stops playing sometimes when i turn the screen off (lock: sleep/wake)???!!!

    Hello yal.
My ipod nano's music stops playing when i sleep the ipod... and sometimes the screen is unresponsive. It is a little bit smasshed so yeah... could that be a factor?

Your nano is pausing playback when the screen goes dark (Either when it goes dark on its own or when you click the sleep/wake button). The reason for this is that it is not detecting your headset. You may be able to hear music, but the headset jack is not inserted enough for the nano to detect that it is there (or something is blocking the connection). Here are your three options:
Insert the headset jack harder. Most folks find that this solves their problem. If you can see ANY of the silver of the plug when it is inserted, it is NOT fully inserted. You should feel and hear a click" when it is fully inserted.
Clean out the crud in the headset port. If you have tried #1 and it just won't insert all the way, it is likely that you have crud in your headset jack. Shine a light in there. The entire inside of the jack is white, so if it looks dark down at the bottom, there is probably crud down there. You can try blowing it out or using canned air. Just understand that shoving anything else in there to clean it out will be taking your warranty into your own hands! However, I have cleaned mine out using whatever was handy and small enough to fit in there and so far so good. Your results may vary!
Take it to the Apple store. If you have really tried with 1 and 2 and it is still happening, then there might just be something up with your headset port or your headset jack. If it is the headset jack, you can look closely at that and be pretty sure if that is the problem. Try another headset to make sure. If you have worked all the way through to this point and it is still happening, it is time to take it to the Apple store.
