My Itunes Folder doesn't update with my library...?

I deleted some songs from my itunes library last night and today I was going to move my library to a different computer. But, when I looked at the itunes music folder, it still had the deleted songs in it. I can't move the folder until it exactly matches my itunes library. Does anyone know how I can update the folder?

Deleting from the itunes library index doesn't necessarily delete the songs from your hard drive, as you've found.
It only does this if they are getting deleted from the itunes folder location set up in itunes prefrences > advanced.
Looks like you are going to have to delete those same files using windows explorer.

  • I have smart playlists combined in a folder that I use to make playlists to fit on devices. Lately the folder isn't updating with the playlists inside it, so the folder shows songs that aren't in any of its playlists. Can anyone help?

I'm using the latest iTunes on Windows 8. Since upgrading to iTunes 12 my old system of smart playlists within folders have not worked properly. I used to have a folder containing three folders with smart playlists in them, but I had to abandon this and copy all the smart playlists into one folder, as the nested structure didn't seem to update anymore. This worked for a couple of months (even though it was less convenient and didn't exactly accomplish what I had been able to do on iTunes 11 and earlier).
More recently, however, I've found that the folder in the simplified structure also doesn't work properly. The smart playlists are set up to remove songs after they were played, but now the folder seems to retain some songs even after they've disappeared from the playlist that included them. It seems to be building up 'ghosts' of songs that were played and were then supposed to disappear as per the smart playlist setup. I tried copying all the playlists out of the folder, but ended up with the folder 'properties' showing that it contained a number of songs, even when it was empty.
I also noticed that I'm unable to reference the folder in the conditions of any new playlists I set up - I get the error message that the folder relies on smart playlists that cannot be updated. In response to this I reviewed all the playlists, but saw no errors.
    Anybody else have this problem?

It may be best to recreate the folder and the smart playlists from scratch.

  • My Calendar doesn't update with iPhone sync even though it then updates my iPad

My Calendar on my iMac doesn't update when syncing with iPhone (the most updated device on my Calender), even though it then updates after I sync my iPad? By this I mean it updates the system on my iMac because it then passes it onto my iPad. Help PLEASE??????

Might help if you stated which App this was.
In the email iTunes receipt that you receive there is a Report a Problem link with which you can communicate a problem with each purchase to Apple.

  • ITunes 10 aborts iPad update with error 1631

    Hi all,
I've just switched to iTunes 10 and tried to "search for updates" for my lovely iPad 32GB+3G (without using a micro sim). But iTunes 10 aborts my update reques with a errorcode 1631. The message is like that: "itunes was unable to search for updates for the network operator settings for your iphone."
iTunes 9 was working fine. My iPhone is working with iTunes 10 as expected.
So, what should I try, before downgrading to iTunes 9 again?

I upgraded to itunes 10 (awefully long and slow process) and now my netbook cannot find my ipad. Windows Xp can. The ipad registers on itunes with the same cable on another computer.
I have followed the advice on the Apple support page
    1. Have stopped and restarted the ipad service
    2. uninstalled and reinstalled itunes 10
    3. uninstalled itunes 9 and reinstalled itunes 10 (the itunes libary will not read and itunes fails to start)
    4. have reinstalled itunes 10
And still itunes 10 will not find the device.
This has been a totally awful experience worthy of a microsoft vista award

  • Itunes match doesn't work with newest verstion of apple tv software

    Hi,
I recently updated my software on my 3rd gen apple tv, and itunes match doesn't work anymore - I get the screen that it is retrieving information about my library and that it can take a few minutes.  Well, it after a few hours it still doesn't end retrieving.  This has been happening since I updated my software over 2 weeks ago.  Any solutions?  Thanks!

Hi, I had the same problem. I changed countries on the Apple TV. This logged me out of my account. When I reverted back to my country and logged back in on the Apple TV, it worked (almost) without problem.

  • Importing to iTunes folder doesn't seem to work.

I don't know if this is a vista/itunes bug, but here I go:
I have a music library of about 60 gigs or so. When I try and import the songs WITHOUT moving the songs to iTunes directory, it works like a charm. However, if I check the box to move the imported songs TO the itunes folder, I only get a fraction of the music in my library. I would like for iTunes to import everything to the itunes directory.
Can I do this: Manually copy the music to the iTunes folder and then somehow import the itunes folder? (does that even make sense?)
    Thanks in advance
    M

Which files? Music or Photos? Do any songs in iTunes have an exclamation mark next to them? Other files as well? Do you remember what error messages that you were getting? Those error codes could be helpful.

  • When importing a cd on to itunes where is the original file kept because my itunes folder doesn't have it, the song does come up when i spotlight search it but i can't locate it

It will be in the iTunes media folder location shown in iTunes prefs > Advanced.
Select the song, right click > Show file in Finder.

  • Itunes 7.1.1 update erased my library, won't sync ipod

A couple of days ago I was asked if I wanted to update my itunes to 7.1.1 and I clicked yes. The update was completed and I closed my computer. Today I opened my itunes and it is completely erased. Also, it says that my ipod is syned with another library, which is not true, I only have 1 itunes which has now been erased. Complete disaster, why did this happen and how can it be fixed?

Firstly, do you have a standard installation?
Your iTunes folder in My Music and Itune Music in the iTunes folder?
It may be possible to recreate your library using the article in this link:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313
If that doesn't work out, since you just upgraded you may have a backup copy of your library created during the upgrade.
Look in My Music\iTunes\Previous Itunes Libraries
Look for a file with a name like iTunes Library yyyy-mm-dd.itl
Where yyyy-mm-dd is the date of your upgrade. If you have this, you can use it.
With iTunes closed, drag the existing iTunes library.itl out of the iTunes folder onto the desktop. Then copy the backup library into your iTunes folder and rename it iTunes Library.itl, Then restart iTunes.

  • Ipod doesn't update all the library HELP

I've had my iPod Mini for two years now. A month ago I downloaded iTunes 7 and since then it has been a nightmare. I removed it and installed back the original software that came initially with my iPod.
I had to format my iPod and have to update it again. I have about 800 songs.
Sometimes iTunes recognizes my iPod and sometimes doesn't.
When I try to update my entire library, it only updates me 130 songs and then it says update is complete... I have tried this in another computer but it happens the same thing. I'm already thinking in buying a nano but I want to give it another try, any tips from someone?
Thanks really to anyone out there that helps me!

I'm not 100% sure, I can only think of two things that might work. Make sure that all of the songs have a check mark next to them, and you could also try unsyncing and resyncing your ipod to your computer.
Also, if your ipod is still under warranty, you can always call the APPLE SUPPORT LINE and see what they say.
Hope this helps, and I hope your problem gets fixed!

  • ITunes thinks iPod is synced with another library

    Hello guys,
The moment I connect my iPod to iTunes it doesn't sync. That is because it thinks my iPod is synced to another library, which isn't true. How can I "tell" it that? I use the newest version of iTunes on a Windows 7 64bit pc. Help? Please?

You can tell because you received the message. You have to options:
    - Make this your syncing computer/iTunes library.
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
    - Or be satisfied with only being able to sync music and videos to the iPod from this library/computer. To do that you need to use the manual method included here:
iTunes: Syncing media content to iOS devices and iPod

  • I manually moved my itunes folder-can't get back my library

I manually copied my whole itunes folder from *media drive b* to *drive a (the mac osx system drive)* since I needed to free up space on my media drive. The original itunes library file and the itunes music library.xml file created 6/2005 are still intact on the media drive with all the music. How do I force itunes to see this again. It is seeing an old itunes library I made instead of my current library.
    Help !
    Thanks

Here's the fix... I did overwrite the Itunes library file data that had all my playlists and other data. But to get back my songs and movies, all I had to do was drag the iTunes music folder onto iTunes and in 10 minutes walla, there was all my tunes and vids... Whew !!.. Play counts, date added etc, all wiped and starting form scratch. That's ok. *Lesson learned; use itune's functions to move your library from drive to drive !*

  • Removing files from iTunes folder that are no longer in library

    Hi all,
Quick question that I require help answering.
I'm trying to tidy up my iTunes library/ Physical storage.
I currently have 1600 songs within iTunes, but through bad management in the past I actually have (I know this after reimporting the library to another machine as a test) 1700 songs within the physical iTunes Folder structure. What I need in order to slipstream my storage is to remove those extra 100 songs lying about in my physical folder without losing the 1600 currently in use and present in iTunes.
Does anyone have an easy way of removing the extra files?
    Thanking in advance,
    Steve

Use File > Add folder to library... and select your iTunes Media folder. Anthing already in the library will be ignored, anything else will be added. Once the process is complete sort the library on the Date Added column and remove the tracks that have just been added, sending them to the recycle bin.

  • An existing folder doesn't appear in the library

I don't see an existing folder in my library.  I try to import photos into lightroom, but it indicates that they are already imported and they supposedly exist in a particular folder.  However, that folder is not showing in my library.  Is there a way to correct this?  The photo is there but they only way I can see it is to search for it and it will appear.

I don't mean to butt in (DJ Paige is quite competent..), but it's starting to sound to me like your catalog is a-wonk (a tad fouled up..).
You didn't rename the folder outside Lr and change (just the) case, did you? - that can confuse the bee-geebers out of Lightroom (catalog is case-sensitive, sorta/mostly, but disk is not, at all).
I mean, you can always try deleting preferences (.agprefs file in with presets) and see if it helps, but if not, I dunno - maybe somebody else will be more help.
How far back do you have to go for a backup catalog which isn't so wonked?
    wlmsky wrote:
My main concern is that it may happen to one of my larger folders with many photos.
    Has it ever happened before?
    wlmsky wrote:
I should mention that I am using LR 3.6.
Another thing to try: try upgrading the catalog using Lr5 and see if you still have the problem. Might even be a good excuse for an Lr upgrade .
    Cheers, and good luck,
    Rob
