My iTunes Library is mixed up.

When I play some songs, iTunes player shows the right song information but plays the wrong music.
When searching for the song title in finder (in the iTunes Media map) and pre-listen to the song (hitting spacebar) this wrong song is also playing.
iTunes thus placed different songs with the song names. This was not the case a few weeks ago.
I have a huge library of over 1TB , all imported from CD, placed on a nas drive (raid1), made an extra external back-up, but offcourse they all have the same problem, since i just detected this problem... It seems TuneUp can fix part of the wrong tracks.
My question: WHY is iTunes mixing up the songs? Is it because sometimes iTunes is open on a Macbook Pro wich goes to sleep modus and thus loses connection with the server?
Thank you for your answers...

So you're saying your files are misnamed too?  In Finder you go to click on file name "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and "Rockaway Beach" by the Ramones plays instead? And if you do that in iTunes the same happens which means the file has been mistagged? If played in Quicktime are both the file name and tags in the information window incorrect? That's a mess because it means the file has completely lost its identity and cannot be retagged easily with some tool based on file name or renamed based on tags.
I don't know why this is happening.  Do you keep just media on the NAS and the library files on the internal drive?  I must say, in the past few months it seems like there are not-infrequent posts where people do that and end up in some kind of mess.  I plain think iTunes does not seem to work well with NAS, or possibly only if it is all kept on the NAS.  Well, maybe because we don't hear the non-problem cases, but it seems I have been reading more problem cases in the past few months which may just mean more people are turning to NAS.

  • My CD covers from iTunes Library are mixed up on my iPod? Why???

For some odd reason, a large part of the album artwork from my iTunes library mixed up when I loaded my iTunes library onto my iPod. In other words, when R.E.M. is playing "It's The End Of The World," the CD cover shown happens to be David Crowder Band's "A Collision." Any way to get it unmixed. It appears that the artwork is correct in my iTunes library, just not on my iPod.

Try turning the Artwork option off and back on. Thus should re-optimise the Artwork - it may help, unless someone knows better?

  • Digital DJ mixes using Itunes library

    Hi,
I hope someone out there can help me decide whether Garageband is the right option. I am looking for a program to make digital DJ mixes using my iTunes library. I used Pro Tools many years ago for years, so I am not new to hard disk recording. I just want to import, maybe 10 or 15 songs, and mix them over 2 or 3 tracks. Then track them so each song will track on a cd player but still continuously
play track to track (I forgot what this is called, its been a while.) Just like a DJ mix. Pitching each track is very important. Does Garageband offer Time Stretch/Compression? I want to digitally beat-match each song to mix in/out. I'm also running an older ibook (see below). Should i look for an older version of iLife? Does it sound like Garageband can do these functions painlessly? Are the any other programs out there more suitable?
Any information on this subject is greatly appreciated.

I've been using GarageBand to digitize vinyl- It's great for that (with my Motu 896)
I've been messing with an M-audio DJ mixing interface, and Torq Mixlab's "light" version. It works with Core Audio- feeds off your iTunes stash automatically, and records the mix too. To be able to use headphones in the DJ way if you don't have a multichannel interface an iMic works well.
There's other software I've been experimenting with- because the computer I use for our music server is kinda slow. Here's some title's you'll like tasting:
DJay: (49$ and worth it!!!) http://www.algoriddim.net/
    Mixxx (free!) http://www.mixxx.org/
    Audiophile (free!) http://homepage.mac.com/a_logan/PWS/
    DrDJ (free) http://www.lievendekeyser.net/
Hope that info helps your quest. My goal is to make my M-audio midimixer wirelessly feed off my iTunes library- and stream the mix to different audio zones around the house via a couple airport expresses. I'm almost there! Yippie!

I have several versions of itunes on my computer and hard drive. Now my itunes library has become mixed up with my husbands how do I resolve?

  • Itunes 12 can't import shared home movie to iTunes library

HI. I am trying to import, or add to my desktop iTunes library, a shared home movie. I have file sharing turned on with both my laptop and desktop. I can see, from my desktop, the shared home movies, and I can even play them, but I cannot find an option to import them into the desktop library. I use my desktop to sync my iPad and ultimately I want to add the movies to my iPad. How do I import a shared home movie from my laptop to desktop, not just see it and play it from sharing?

Join the crowd. If you search this and other forums on the web, you'll find that Home Sharing has limited functionality on PC and Mixed PC-Mac networks. It works fine, Mac to Mac, it appears, but PC's seem unable to talk to Macs or one another on many, many, many people's home shared networks. I hope that Apple finds a way to improve this aspect of iTunes or at least expands its troubleshooting recommendations in the support database.

  • Why doesn't my iTunes content show in Library? Also, How can I sync music purchased on my iPhone to my PC's iTunes Library?

I have been having several annoying problems with iTunes for the past several months...
    1) Library content not showing after folder relocation:
First, in order to free up space on my C drive, I wanted to relocate my iTunes folder to a new 1TB hard drive (F) I installed. I did so according to Apple's instructions online, but despite setting the new location to be my library in my iTunes preferences, the content never shows up in the iTunes Library in the actual application. This is my most annoying problem, so please someone help me to resolve this! Thanks.
    2) Albums purchased on iPhone 5 only sometimes sync with PC
I have purchased a few albums on my iPhone 5 and only some of them have synced to my PC when I connect my iPhone via USB. They don't even appear under the "Purchases" playlist in the iTunes Store. So, I have content right now on my iPhone that I can only access via my iPhone, and some of the music has gone missing. One or two tracks from albums are not there despite me purchasing full albums at a time... This is also pretty dang annoying and prevents me from trying a solution I'd looked up to fix my third problem...
    3) Album artwork mixed up/mismatched on iPhone 5
This is pretty self-explanatory. Ony day my album artwork decided to play musical chairs. So now, for example, it shows Andrew W.K.'s bloody face when I listen to Zedd, and shows Skrillex when I listen to Symphony X. I read online that if you desync your content on you iPhone so that none of the music is there any longer, and then resync content from your computer, it will fix this issue. I'm hesitant to apply this solution until I can fix the ones above though, because I don't want to lose content that I have legally paid for.
    My final problem:
    4) Apple charges $20 for a support phone call for iTunes
Seriously, WTH? I hope the community can help me out. Thanks all!

    1) The best way to relocate the iTunes library folder is to move the entire iTunes folder with all subfolders to the new path, then press and hold down shift as start iTunes and keep holding until prompted to choose a library, then browse to the relocated folder and open the file iTunes Library.itl inside it.
If you've done something different then provide some more details about what is where and I should be able to help.
    2) Purchases on the device should automatically transfer to a Purchased on <DeviceName> playlist, but it my depend a bit on whether automatic iCloud downloads are enabled. If there is a cloudy link then the transfer might not happen. You can use File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. In iTunes you should also check out iTunes Store > Quick Links > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer.
    3) Backup the device, then immediately restore it. In some cases you need to add a restore as new device into that equation. Obbviously not to be attempted until you're sure all your media is in your library. See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device should it be needed.
    4) I believe there is complimentary 1 incident 90-day support with hardware purchases, but no free software support for iTunes itself. AppleCare gets you a different level of support.

  • Itunes library doesn't see all the songs on my ipod

i manage my music manually as i have more disc space on my ipod than on my hard drive. so i just add stuff to my ipod one album at a time as i get it.
fast forward to me wanting to make a mix cd of the stuff on my ipod, and since i can't get any of the songs off my ipod through itunes i just used yamipod to move them back to my computer to burn to a cd. problem now is that all the music i've added since upgrading to the new itunes isn't showing up on my ipod, yet the space is still gone. when i use windows to search for the music, it shows up and will play in windows media player, but the ipod seems to think these songs are gone.
is there any way to get it to "see" these songs? or does itunes JUST look at the db file ONLY?
    TIA!!

First off, I would STRONGLY suggest that a external hard drive would make you life much easier by at least being able to back up your songs on the external drive for when you need them. Even if you don't want them in the iTunes library, you can have them all ready on the external to be re-added as needed. You can get 100's of gigs for under $100 shipped.
Anyway, since you used Yamipod, are all the songs back on the computer? If so, I would go ahead and restore the iPod, let iTunes then resync everything back to the iPod, then switch it back to manual and see if the restore and resync clears up the issue.

  • Itunes Library was erased from my computer -Ipod synced and HELP!

Sorry - I am a brand newbie to iPod.
I recently got my 'pod. I loaded it up with a zillion mp3 files, and more, including videos I coverted from my Dvds and some videos I bought through iTunes.
    All was well for weeks.
THEN - my computer crashed, and my computer tanked, taking my itunes library with it. After getting the computer going again, I reinstalled itunes.
I had the mp3s backed up (most of them anyway) on disks. I loaded some of them back into the library, and tried to sync. First thing - my ipod HAD been named "Kerin's ipo"
Now it just showed as a drive letter "E". I loaded some files in the library, and synced. My ipod is set to manually update. I don't know how it happened, but it seems to have uploaded the new library control files or something?
This is the thing - the ipod still shows pretty "full." I had 25 gigs of teh 30 gigs free. It still showed only 5 gigs free.
When I show the "hidden" files, and look in the music directory, I see LOTS of files - but they all have funky names like XYZAV.mp3. When my mouse hovers over them, they show info that tells me the 'real' name of the file, such as "get info" might include. But the files are in no logical order. The videos are all mixed in and songs from one playlist or album are scattered over all the many folders.
Further, the new files don't seem to be actually in there. I DID see all the new files in the music and song list - but they wouldn't play - when I went to song view and started to play, it just loaded all the song names one after the other, but never played a note.
After erasing all the (i was afraid corrupt) music files and syncing again, the song folder is now empty again.
However - as mentioned before, the properties in My Computer list the ipod as nearly full still.
    My questions:
    a) how do I rename my ipod (not even sure how i did it - had something to do with the first time I connected the ipod to itunes?). I don't want it named "E" I want Kerin's iPo back. When I connect it as a disk, btw, it is still named that. But in iTunes it just shows as "E".
    b) How do I get to view my old directory structure and songs again? they are obviously still there!
    c) I have software (I've tried two diiferent ones - which both seemed to work ok before all this happened - Share Pod and another) which would let me get my unprotected songs BACK off the ipod, if only I could see the old directory from my ipod! But right now, neither of the programs seem to see the files that are clearly there and playable in the hidden folders. How do I get these files visible to the sharepod software? I assume this means I need a directory file or something for them to work from?
Can anyone help me sort this all out? I am not sure where to start, even for so simple a thing as making my ipod name show up again, and why won't it play the new files, let alone, why does it still show completely full?
If it were empty, I guess I could start from scratch - but there are things not backed up anywhere else yet, that I'd REALLY like to have back before I try completely brainwashing the pod and starting from ground zero. Also, I spent a LOT of time loading 25 gigs of stuff on there - I'd rather not have to do that all again - if there is some way to recover what is on there already, I'd love that option.
    Please help!
Thanks in advance to all the marvelous people who help each other here. I have been reading through these forums for hours and don't see answers to this situation - maybe it's so obvious, that's why no one has bothered - but I didn't see it in the online manuals, or here in the forums... maybe i'm searching in the wrong place? If someone can direct me to answers, I'll be MOST grateful!
PS: I'm not computer illiterate - just ipod dumb! Just got this darn thingie!

    a) See: How to rename your iPod.
b & c) If you can still the view hidden files, see this Music from iPod to computer.
"I see LOTS of files - but they all have funky names like XYZAV.mp3"
That's normal. When those files are back in iTunes they'll have the correct names.
Once the files are back to your computer (and only then), you should restore your iPod. It would appear that the hard drive has become corrupt and unreadable.

  • How do I add my new CD's to my iTunes library?

Just tried to add some new CD's to my iTunes library today. Was able to add the new Bruce Springsteen CD but not the new Seal CD. I tried adding Seal multiple times but it never read it. Also put the new Springsteen CD in several times and it worked every time, showing all tracks by title and asking me if I wanted to import. I tested some CD's that I had already added to my library months ago and some worked while most did not. Strangely, the only ones that worked are CD mixes that I burned myself or friends gave me. Does anybody have some insight here?? Very frustrating...I am thinking it is related to the newest version of iTunes which I downloaded a few weeks ago.

I am not sure what you mean by "WMP" but I do know that the CD's I could not add to iTunes work fine in my home CD player. The strange thing to me is that iTunes reads certain CD's but not others. For instance, CD's that I burned myself it reads fine but a brand new Seal from the store it doesnt read???
I am wondering if the new Blackberry software I downloaded could be causing this issue but the people at AT&T do not think so. I am more inclined to believe it is an iTunes issue since I downloaded the newest version about 3 weeks ago and prior to that I was able to add my audio CD's all the time without any issues ever.

  • Moving iTunes library from one external hard drive to another, playlists

Here's my question. I keep my iTunes library on an external drive. My 250GB extrernal drive is full, so I'm moving my entire library to a new 500GB hard drive.
What do I have to do so my hundreds of playlists (most mixes with dozens of songs) still function once I've moved the music over?
Do I delete everything from my old drive, then use the 'add to library' function on the entire new drive? If I do that, will iTunes be able to find the tunes in each playlist?
    Thanks!

I DON'T MIND DRAGGING THINGS OVER; TH PROBLEM IS, WHEN I TRY TO PLAY PLAYLISTS AFTER MOVING STUFF TO THE NEW DRIVE, EVERY SONG WILL ASK "FILE NOT FOUND--WOULD YOU LIKE TO LOCATE IT?" WITH 50,000 mp3s, it will take forever to rebuild all my playlists. Is there a way to have iTunes search a new drive and recognize the songs as being the same as the ones on the old drive, so you don't have to do this manually?
Also, if I do use the 'consolidate library' approach-- what happens if I drag all my other music folders into my itunes folder manually on the old drive, then try consolidate--will it copy EVERYTHING over to the new drive, or only the stuff that was in the iTunes music folder on the old drive from the beginning (since everything else I used "add to library' but not 'copy to itunes music folder'.
iTunes should have some more built in utility options to allow it to find everything in the library when it moves to a new drive, even if one chooses to keep music in a different format than the 'itunes music folder' approach. .

  • Itunes library on NAS upgrading computers don't want to lose music added to library via CDs help

    Hello all,
I'm upgrading from an old Win XP machine to a Windows 8 machine.  Complete iTunes library has already been transferred to a network drive (NAS) and is accessible to both machines via Home Sharing.  I want to remove the XP machine from the mix but I'm afraid I will no longer be able to access any music that was added to my library from CDs and not the iTunes Store.  What can I do to ensure I can acces the entire library and begin to sync my iPods, iPhones, etc. via the Windows 8 machine (after removing the old XP machine) - exactly like I did before.  Somebody help a brother out here...  thanks!

  • Can I replace my itunes library with another user's on the same computer?

I just inherited a MacBook that has the previous user's iTunes library.  I'd like to use iTunes to backup my iPhone 5s without mixing my library with his.  How can I completely remove the old iTunes library before I sync my phone to this laptop?

No. The contents of each library is tied to the Apple ID of the user.
You need to erase the hard drive, reinstall OS X, and set up your own new account. You will need either a retail Snow Leopard DVD or the installer discs that came with the computer.
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • Multiple of the same iTunes library appearing in Apple TV

Since I up dated my macbook air (13" Mid 2011) to the developer preview of Yosemite, my iTunes library on apple tv appears twice, some times as many as four times. None of them will connect properly. They usually time out with the standard error ' Could not connect to "### Library" '. My house mates also use Yosemite and there libraries seem to connect just fine. I am now on the 3rd preview of Yosemite, and each have been the same.
My work around for this has to airplay straight from iTunes, which usually works for one episode of something. Which I usually have to quite and restart iTunes as it won;t connect anymore.
Has anyone out there had anything similar and found a fix. I have been searching the net for a while now and haven't found anything.
    ~Tim

I've had the same thing happen to me, also since installing Yosemite beta 3. It's like the Apple TV vaguely knows that my iTunes library is out there, in some way/shape/form, but it's unable to make the connection so that it can interact with the library normally. Almost makes me wonder if there's something iTunes-related in the mix as well...

  • Can Apple TV 2 stream purchased videos / home movies converted to MP4 and in my iTunes library?

Okay, so we currently own a 1st Gen ATV and love it, however 99% of it's use is streaming purchased content and/or home movies etc. that I've used visualhub/handbrake to convert and imported into my iTunes library. All in all, once I gave up and surrendered my video content to iTunes and started streaming to my 1st Gen ATV I've grown hooked, I love sorting stuff however I want (I have about 250 movies, entire seasons of X-Files etc. that I've ripped from my own (LEGAL) media and put in iTunes, so when it's sorted properly it's very clean, when it's all alpha, it's a nightmare.
I've tried a few media servers for the PS3, however they just pile all the movies into one big alpha sorted mess, music isn't sorted by genre, no genius, TV shows are not tagged by watched, won't resume properly etc. Boxee / XBMC are a little better, but then again I run those on my ATV as well, and still Boxee doesn't really seem to sort stuff quite as well or play playlists properly.
We're getting another TV for our den and have been looking into other media streaming options, what I love about the Apple TV is the way I can sort all our movies, shows etc. by genre, so the kids can just go to the stuff I've tagged as Kids Movies or I can make video playlists for them and mix up some Planet Earth and Dora the Explorer for our babysitter and movies /shows are tagged as watched/unwatched, if you stop one it will ask if you want to resume, etc.
Looking into the ATV2 it seems like it's just geared for rentals, If that's the case I really am not interested. I like the Netflix option, but then again most newer internet connected TVs do that as well as my PS3, not sure how viable an option the WD TV Live plus or Boxee box is, I'd like to get some newer hardware, but I'm just not sure what route to go.
Does the ATV2 stream media in iTunes TV Shows/Podcasts/Movies folders? It doesn't sync right? So it it all Airplay now?
Is my best bet just to get another 1st Gen? Are there any other media servers that are able to sort stuff by played/genre/etc.
Ug, I'm at a loss! I really love the features of my old Apple TV, and would love to get a new one, but I'm just not sure if it will do everything I'm used to, or if any of the other standalone boxes are better options?
I know this is a bit of a ramble, hopefully someone can make enough sense out of where I'm going and help me out! Thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV 2 will play all the content in your iTunes library that your Apple TV 1 does. It can no longer sync any of it but can stream it all just as the older model did. Airplay is a different feature that lets you stream from an iPad/iPhone, the Apple TV 2 has Airplay the first didn't.
You can still sort and search content by genre, it still marks content watched and unwatched and mainly still lets you organise much as the Apple TV 1 did, with one exception. It doesn't do nested folders, so the ability to tag a movie as a show (ie James Bond) and have all the associated movies in a James bond folder has gone and it lists all these movies individually.
It has a similar situation with TV shows. It will put all TV shows in a series in a folder as the older one did, but the new one lists each series separately whereas the older model would put all the series in one folder.
Not nesting folders is a bit of a pain with large libraries and whilst I don't like it, it's more or less the only compromise I have to make and of course I get additional features too.
