I have a couple of suggestions for you to attempt to resolve this issue. First, I would try re-creating your iTunes library following the instructions listed here:

You just have to enter your Apple ID on your grandson's iPad and then conect it to your computer.
You'll see on your iTunes library that there's a little label on the top left corner of iTunes that indicates you all you have on your library. Well, if you click on that, you'll see there's an option to see Apps. You click on that (remember, you must have your grandson's iPad connected) and you'll be able to see all the apps you have downloaded with your Apple ID.
Then you have to go to the top right of iTunes and you'll find a button that shows the iPad connected. Click on that and it'll show up your iPad summary. On top of that page, you'll see some options. One of them says "Apps". You click on that one and there should appear the apps you have downloaded. Choose the App you want to install and simply click "Install".
After that you can eject your iPad and enjoy your new App!

Ummm you probably haven't watched it yet. You have 30 days to watch a rental before it expires.... 24h after you start to watch it though.

Was the iTunes card issued in the same country as your account is based ? They are only valid in their country of issue. Is the VISA card one that was issued to you by a bank where you have an account or one that you bought in a local store?
You cannot use a prepaid debit VISA card that you bought from a local store with iTunes or Mac App Stores. -

You are allowed to have the software installed and activated on two machines, so there should be no reason to deactivate it on your other machine, or at least you can wait until you see it loaded and working on the new one. -

IPod stuck in 'headphone' mode but I don't have headphones in. What should I do?
My iPod won't make any sound at all. When I turn up the volume it just says that there is headphones in But there really isn't. What can I do to fix it?
- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. You have no iCloud since that requies iOS 5 If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes. I tried to update my iPhone 5 to iOS7.2 and now it wants me to plug it into a computer. I do not have a computer, so I obviously can't plug it in. I don't know how to fix this.
If you have the 'connect to iTunes' screen then it will need to be connected to a computer's iTunes - do you know a friend or family member who has a computer with iTunes installed that they would let you use, or you could potentially go to an Apple Store and see if they can do it (though preferably make a Genius bar appointment, don't just turn up at a busy time)

WHAT'S WRONG?
I ended up finding a solution.....went to Firefox tab on top left of browser screen. Went to help, restart with add-ons disabled. This takes you to the Firefox Safe Mode text box. Select "Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults. This seems to have worked, as there is no longer an AVG Secure Search directed screen. Also, I installed Avast. Have had it on my tower PC and another laptop for 2 years with no issue. Screw AVG!!!
