  • Photosmart D7160 connected to desktop with Windows XP, issues with new laptop & network printing

    We have a Photosmart D7160 connected to our desktop that runs Windows XP. I just got a new Acer laptop that runs Windows 7 (64bit). We set up a network to connect to the internet and so I can access documents that had been made on the desktop. I have not had issues using the printer off the desktop with any programs. I installed a creative program to create flyers, cards, etc onto the laptop. Same one as on the desktop. When trying to print off the laptop, I can not access the whole options on the printer. I forget the name of the options I want (maybe called printing preferences) but I would like to choose wether I am using the photo tray or presentation printing or economy printing, etc. I can only choose print.  That is not  good for printing cards, etc. I had made a recipe care template with that program and wanted to print one out.
    What have I not done in setting up my laptop? I tried the to "add a printer" on a network and that did not fix my issue. Any help is appreciated. thanks.

    Hi Bayratlj
    Dunno if you've sorted your problem out, but I had exactly the same problem with a HP Photosmart 3100. I found some advice on http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6201674 regarding the firewall on the Mac and yes that is the problem. But as you'll see with my last post in that topic I cant figure out how to keep my firewall on AND have printer sharing. Just allowing printer sharing in the firewall settings is no help.
    Cheers

  • How do I set up a desktop/laptop network with a WRT54G v5

    I'm a novice when it comes ot networking, but I was hoping someone could guide me as to how to set up a wireless network with a laptop (non-linksys wireless card) and a desktop with a WRT54G. I've already got it where the laptop can connect to the internet via the WRT54G but I'd like to set-up a wireless network where the laptop can view and/or modify files on the desktop and vice-versa. Can aanyone help me? (I'd also like to add my external hard drive to the network I create via ethernet connection to the 54G, later on)
    Can anyone give me a guide or even tell me if it's possible?

    I'm glad it worked out for you. By the way, is this what you were trying to download? If so, I don't seem to have any problems downloading it. Check your PC's for any restrictions regarding downloads. Check your firewall as well.Message Edited by Katsuki23 on 06-30-2006 12:49 AM

  • Hp compaq d610 d40 laptop network port doesn't wake up

    I have tried looking for a fix for this and can't find one so if there is one and i've missed, it my apologies but basically...
    I have a hp compaq d610 model d40 and with the basic windows xp installation and the default drivers (hp) on, when the system goes into stand and then is brought out of the standby mode everything wakes up except for the network port and the only way to get this to wake up is to go into device manage and scan for hardware changes or reboot.
    I have tried different drivers, bios changes (not update) with no luck but strangelly enough the other 3 makes and models of the same laptop work fine.
    Now, before I look into bios updates has anybody come across this?

  • Can I see What's Playing on a laptop networked to the main computer?

    My iTunes program, files and music all reside on a 1T drive connected to a MacPro in the office. I generally set up playlists and run music from there, using AirTunes to put the music all around.
    My laptop in the living room is networked to it. Is there a program to show me on the laptop what is playing on the MacPro?
    I know I can connect as a shared library to that iTunes or even mount the drive across the network to the laptop and Opt. open iTunes and find it. But I've seen there are some programs that broadcast what's playing to the net. Does anyone use something like that to broadcast to another computer on their home network? With album artwork?

    Click on the chevron to the left of the iPod icon in the Source list. This will display the various icons for the iPod itself, Music, Movies, TV Shows and Playlists. Clicking on Music for instance will give you the traditional song view.

  • I have my laptop networked to my printer

    Can someone help me here, whenever I open the hp solutions center page and I put in all the information then do the test run it's giving me an error saying check the device what could be wrong?

    I have done a lot of research on this and have not found one solution that actually works.  Apparently, the issue is caused by preview and textedit now being sandbox applications.  Some printer drivers, for some reason, are not compatible with this new "feature".
    Obviously, the people who fixed this issue by either erasing the preferences or changing permissions either don't have quite the same problem or are not using the same type of printer drivers.
    In my case, I think I am using the same printer as you as my error message is regarding the same file.  This file is a printer plugin used with a Canon iRC4080/5180 with an imagepass-H1.
    Now, if you go into Macintosh HD all the way to /Library/Printers/Canon/PS3/PDEs.  You will find this file "EF124235 (FF) plugin".  All I did was deleting it.  So, I just dragged and dropped it into the Trash.  So far, everything works fine after doing so.  I have tested printing normally, stapling, double sided, etc and so far, everything works.  I have not done extensive tests on this, but it is still safe to at least try, as this file is installed during the printer driver installation.  So, if this does not help or causes other printing issues, you can always reinstall the printer driver and it will be back to "normal".  Meaning, everything else but Preview and Textedit will work fine.  When I say reinstall, I mean, from scratch.  So, if you do not have the "driver package" still, you will need to download it again then double click on the "OSX installer.mpkg" which will add all the drivers and plugins where they should be again.  After that you can go into System Preferences + Printers and add the printer again.  But, hopefully, it won't come to that and everything will work fine just by deleting the plugin file mentioned above.
    Fingers crossed!!!

  • Laptop isn't a part of the interal network

    Hi!
    I have a network with three stationary computers and a laptop (macbook). The three stationary computers all appear on my network and can connect to eachother, but not the laptop. The laptop can connect to the internet thru an Airport Express just fine, but it seems to have no connection to the internal network. Printing from the laptop (network printer) is not possible either. Anyone have any ideas on where to start?
    Thanks a lot!
    Erik

    More than likely this is caused by your AirPort Express (AX) creating a separate subnet for the wireless connection. To prevent this and get your wireless clients on the same subnet, configure the AX so that the option to distribute IP addresses is DISABLED.

  • Officejet Pro l7580 Constantly loses connection to wireless laptop!!

    Hi and thanks for helping.
    I have an Offiecejet Pro L7580 and use it on my network, servicing a desktop and a laptop. The desktop is wired to the router while the laptop is wireless. Concerning my desktop, the printer connection is solid. It is 100% dependable. My laptop is a completely different story. I noticed that it would connect just fine and print, scan, etc... But after about 10-15 minutes it tells me that it is disconnected. This has been a continuous problem. Both systems use win.7 Ultimate 64 bit.
    I found out that if I go into my D-Link DI-524 wireless router and change my wireless channel from one to another, it automatically reconnects. This means that my printer... or laptop is losing a connection due to channel activity. I have tried multiple channels in case of wireless interference from other devices. It happens all the same. This either sounds like a printer firmware problem that loses connection when the router channel cycles, or my laptops network card (even though I never lose connection to the internet). My laptop uses a buffalo mini usb wifi adapter (thanks to a widely known problem of DV series factory defects).
    Please help me find out what the problem is.
    Thanks,
    Jason

    Here are a few things to try:
    1. Update the firmware on your router.
    2. Set a static IP address for your printer:
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). Yours is 192.168.0.100 to .199  Enter 192.168.0 220 for the IP address.
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Leave the gateway and DNS blank. Click 'Apply'
    Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
    After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.
    Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Netctl fails to connect to a wireless network and does not give detail

    If I try to connect to a wireless network (WEP, DHCP) using netctl I get "Jon for netctl@wlp2s0\x2dnetworkname.service failed." and two commands (journalctl -xn and systemctl status ...) that should give details about the error.
    However, both of them give the following lines:
    oct 05 14:44:25 laptop network[422]: Starting network profile 'wlp2s0-networkname'...
    oct 05 14:44:30 laptop network[422]: Failed to bring the network up for profile 'wlp2s0-networkname'

    oct 05 14:44:30 laptop systemd[1]: Unit netctl@wlp2s0\x2dnetworkname.service entered failed state.
    Just one line saying that it was trying to connect and four lines repeating the same thing (connecting failed), but it does not give any detail at all.
    The netctl profile is:
    Interface=wlp2s0
    Connection=wireless
    Security=wep
    ESSID=networkname
    IP=dhcp

    Last edited by eduardosm (2014-10-05 14:01:02)

    MoonSwan wrote:Either this Key=\"hex-password was a typo when you cut & pasted that code or your issue is that you need a closing " symbol.  So your line should read:  Key=\"hex-password".
    If you look at the netctl.profile man page, it explains some special quoting rules at the end.  The literal double-quote (or escaped double-quote) actually just results in a non-quoted string when passed from netctl to the underlying supporting software.  This is apparently necessary if the WEP key is in hexadecimal.

  • Toshiba laptop with Atheros AR5008X won't connect to Linksys WRT350N

    Please excuse the level of detail, but I believe you need a reasonably complete picture if you are to understand the problem well enough to give a complete answer.
    SETUP & BACKGROUND
    I have three N-compliant devices and several G-compliant devices on my network. I also have two routers, one being used an an access point. The first is a Linksys WRT350N; the second is a Linksys WRT54G. I have the G router connected as an access point so that I can reserve the N router for the N devices and achieve N speeds.
    N devices:
    Toshiba laptop; network adapter is Intel 4965AGN.
    Toshiba laptop; network adapter is Atheros AR5008X
    Lexmark Wireless printer
    Router settings:
    WRT350N: Security Mode WPA2 Personal; Encryption AES; Network Mode N-only; Radio Band 40MHz.
    WRT54G: Security Mode WPA Personal; Encryption AES; Network Mode Mixed
    The best I can recall, I set the WRT54G to WPA Personal instead of WPA2 Personal because one of the G-compliant devices did not list the WPA2 Personal setting -- but this is based on memory only.
    To reserve the WRT350N for the N devices and achieve N speeds, I set the Wireless Mode to N-only and Radio Band to 40MHz., and each router broadcasts its own unique SSID. Once I set everything up, I saw a substantial increase in the link speed reported by the Toshiba Connectivity Doctor (I realize there are issues about taking these numbers at face value, but let me continue). The Toshiba Connectivity Doctor reported WRT350N link speed at 130 Mbps and everything appeared to be working well.
    PROBLEM
    Until recently, no problems were apparent; the Toshiba Connectivity Doctor indicated the two laptops connected to the WRT350N at 130 Mbps, the printer connected to and printed via the WRT350N, and all G devices connected through the WRT54G. Recently, however, network performance declined and the Toshiba Connectivity Doctor indicated erratic link speeds ranging from 1 Mbps to 130 Mbps.
    I found through a little research that my quest to reserve the WRT350N router for N devices lacked one element: according to Linksys help for the router, setting the N Transmission Rate to anything other than Auto results in denying access to B/G clients.
    I set the N Transmission Rate to 270 Mbps (the highest setting). The Linksys printer works fine and the Toshiba Connectivity Doctor indicates a solid 130 Mbps link speed for the Toshiba laptop with the Intel 4965AGN adapter card.
    The other Toshiba (with the Atheros AR5008X adapter card), however, is now only able to connect to the WRT54G (the Toshiba Connectivity Doctor indicates a solid link speed of 54 Mbps to the G SSID). If I reset the WRT350N N Transmission Rate to Auto, the Toshiba with the Atheros card can once again connect to the N Router -- but the erratic link speeds and the network degradation returns also.
    I have verified that the Atheros AR5008X network adapter is N-compliant. There aren't many settings on the Atheros AR5008X adapter card configuration, but I can find no documentation on the Internet for this card.
    As far as I can determine, all firmware is up to date for both routers and all drivers are up to date for both adapter cards.
    I'd love to know what changed in the first place, but I'm more concerned with fixing this problem. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can get the Atheros adapter card to connect to the WRT350N with the N Transmission Rate set to something other than Auto?
