Recently purchased older powermac G4 at a garage sale. Unable to do anything because owner, that has now moved, did not wipe it clean and everything I try to do requires his password. Is there a way to restore to factory default, make myself admin and reset password? Hoping this purchase wasnt a complete waste of my time and money.

Here's one method to reset the password without the install disc:
1. boot computer and hold the "apple" key and the "s" key.
2. wait for terminal show
3. release keys
4. type without the quotes: "/sbin/mount -uaw"
5. press enter
6. type without the quotes: "rm /var/db/.applesetupdone
7. press enter
8. type without the quotes: "reboot"
9. press enter
This will let you create a new admin account when you reboot your computer.
Also, without the discs, look at Mac OS X Tip - No Password, No Root, No CD? No Problem.

Here is a way to get around not knowing the admin password on Macs.
To reset your OS X password without an OS X CD you need to enter terminal and create a new admin account:
1. Reboot
2. Hold apple + s down after you hear the chime.
3. When you get text prompt enter in these terminal commands to create a brand new admin account (hitting return after each line):
* mount -uw /
* rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
* shutdown -h now
4. After rebooting you should have a brand new admin account. When you login as the new admin you can simply delete the old one and you’re good to go again!
Not sure is this will work on a Mac running OS 9.

I now have 5 off occurrences of itunes listed as being open despite the fact that they were all created on 2 off laptops, neither of which has now got itunes activated. I now cannot activate itunes on either. The suggestion is that I cancel itnues activation on either which is rather difficult, obviously? Is there another way to access/ activate itunes?
Now fixed by de-authorising computer online at Itunes store...

Now I do want to let you know that your phone has a "main" gmail account. If this "main" gmail account was the one you deleted it may be best that you reset your phone and activate it to your new gmail address.
The reason I recommend doing this is all of your purchased application information is also tied to your gmail.

I subscribe to my video podcasts but some of them either has a small red E next to them and won't download new content or some just doesn't download new content. I have been watching the Rachael Maddow video podcast for at least a month with no problems. Now suddenly it won't download the last nights show. I have read and followed all troubleshoot and cannot find a solution. I have unsubscribed and re-subscribed to no avail. Can someone help me with this problem?

Please can someone help me get my itunes in shape?
I started off with an iPod a couple of years ago to which i set up an iTunes account on my home computer. I thought that i could open itunes on any computer, so i opened itunes on my work computer too, and started playing music at work too. Opening itunes from computer at work to home gave me a few issues, but i always seemed to finally be able to play tunes so never really worried about it.
I got an iphone in June this year and have since left my work, so i don't have the work computer. I decided to start afresh with my itunes account and decided to set up a new account. Unfortunately itunes recognised my name/address and although i set up a new account with a different login, it claimed that i already had an account set up. So i deleted my new account and continue to use my old account.
My music is visible on iTunes, but it will not sync to my iphone as it claims that it 'cannot find the original file' Next to ALL my music has the ! symbol.
To make matters worse, my iphone went slightly wrong, so i went back to the Apple store and they happily replaced the handset for me. Would this effect my itunes considering the 'serial number' has now changed?
Basically i am wondering if i should just start again with itunes? Or can i simply delete all my music on itunes and add new stuff? Also, what will happen when i now plug in my ipod? Surely i can use and ipod and iphone from my itunes account with no problem?
God i didn't realise how bad i am with technology until now!*** Apple! This is a joke! What kind of programmers create a new OS that does **** like this? No wonder people get annoyed with the brand. No solution seems to work on the ipod touch. I have attempted these solutions to no avail. Are Apple trying to force us to purchase all music through iTunes now?? hmmmm...is this a conspiracy?? very annoying and a very disappointed customer.
Im hoping that someone from Apple actually reviews these items and looks for key words, cos this issue with pretty much no solution and despite me sending an email through to Apple support, which has not been replied to, is one of the worst experiences I have encountered with Apple products. no wonder people keep looking at their competitors! -
updated software on iphone 3gs on sunday and now phone has stoppped working, almost as if the phone has been wiped of all hardware!! when trying to add new device to system computer keeps aking for disk that came with device, and obviously the iphone doesnt come with one!! all thats displayed on screen is usb logo and itunes logo, but my tunes account wont connect!! is phone nakered? help with this would be great!
Have EXACTLY the same issue thePOPEofDOPE420, tried the setting> general> reset> reset network setting suggestion - but this does nothing. Still the issue persists.
WiFi - internet works great. As soon as it's off, status bars showing a full signal, 3G but the web page/Facebook app/App Store just hangs and won't load.

icon now has a green check in a small box in the upper left hand corner.
Start your window in Safe Mode and try delete it:

Then go to:

or

And look for thunderbird icon right click on it and click on send to and select desktop, then a shortcut will be create in desktop. -
My desktop has now become a square?
My desktop display has suddenly become square? To explain, chop off an inch off each side of the screen and that is how much screenage I now have. I don't think the pixels have just died because the finder bar has moved to fit with the new amount of space. I've looked though everything I can think of to do with desktops and have come up with nothing. On google the only thing that comes up is something about a white square, which I do not have. If anyone knows what the problem is, please say. Thanks.

I was just installing windows 7 onto my MacBook Pro. I selected to have 200GB for Windows and the rest leave for Mac.
I clicked install and the bar filled up as it should do. However, once the install had completed, my MacBook turned itself off. I assumed this was normal. Now, my MacBook has a black screen with a white flashing underscore in the top left corner.
What is wrong and what should I do?Hold down the Option key when starting up then on the sceen that comes up select Mac OS X to boot from.
The Win 7 install didn't go well and is hung in some way. You should use boot camp assistant to remove the win partition and start over.
Make sure you are using a Retail version of Win 7. A Branded OEM version, like ones from Dell and HP, will NOT work to install Windows 7 on your Mac. -
as said nothing happens, i click the icon and nothing loads up. i have used 3 anti virus and spyware malware etc etc for 3 days i have been trying this, please note this install of windows 7 is fresh 5-6 days old. firefox was working fine then one day i tryed it and nothing.

Now it will always ask if you want to Open or Save the file.
b) If already downloaded, check what's under Get Info > Open with
It should say Open With DiskImageMounter (see pic)
