  • Mac Mini with a Samsung smart TV problem

Hello Everybody. This is my first time in here !
I hope someone would be able to share ideas or views about my issue.
I have a Mac Mini I used to plug into a Panasonic TV, using a a Mini Display to HDMI cable. Since the Mini Display port does not carry audio, I used a mini jack stereo to RCA cable from the Mac's speaker socket to the TV's audio. Everything worked pretty OK.
I just bought a new Samsung smart TV and planned to do the same thing. However, I was horrified to discover that the audio won't carry. From a little bit of research I have made, it turns out that the TV disables the audio once it realizes the DVI does not carry any, and therefore no sound is heard even though the RCA's connected.
One way to go around it was to rename the HDMI source to DVI - PC, but it doesn't work 100% of the time (for some reason) and did not work in my case.
So far, the Samsung guys I've spoked to you haven't been very helpful and offered that I use the TV's optical sound IN (which the TV doesn't have), and even then they did not know if it worked 100%.
I've found out that Mini Display + Stereo to HDMI adapter exists, but it's very expensive here (over 50 pounds, almost $100) and I'd like to find alternatives - The TV's speakers are pretty good and I'd like to avoid buying speakers, if I could work it out with simple cable work.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

I ma having the same issue, I have one of the original Mini Mac and was connect to my Panasonic TV and everything worked fine.
I have bought a Samsung after been told by the shop it was the best and compatable only to find I like the person above cannot get any sound.
    All ideas welcome.
    Thanks in advance

  • Dual screens with mac mini with a samsung 24in 245bw screens.  How do I make this happen

I just bought a Mac mini.  I have two samsung 245bw 24in screens.  What do I need to buy to have dual screens.

You will need to use the supplied HDMI to DVI Adapter for one, then for the second you will need a Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter - Apple Store (U.S.) plugged into the combination Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort.

  • Mac mini with rolling tv screen

I hooked up my mac mini to my tv and I get a rolling screen. I tried changing the display by using a monitor, but when I go back to the tv, it keeps doing the same thing. Please help.

This is likely caused by the mini failing to correctly detect the TV, thus having a resolution and refresh rate setting which the TV doesn't support.
    Try:
Booting the mini with no display attached and waiting until sufficient time has elapsed for MacOS to load and the desktop to appear, then connect the TV.
If that doesn't work, boot into safe mode (hold the shift key down while booting) until the desktop appears. If this allows it to display correctly, open the display preferences and set a resolution and refresh rate your TV is known to work with.
If that doesn't work, boot the system with the other monitor attached, and when running, use the finder to search for 'windowserver'. Delete all files it finds and then reboot with the TYV connected.

  • Mac mini with minidisplayport to vga adapter: display does not sleep

I have a late 2009 mac mini. When using a mini displayport-vga adapter from Apple, whenever the mini puts the display to sleep the video goes black and my monitor goes into test mode (not sleeping).
It's almost like the signal to tell the display to sleep is not passing through the adapter. I have a Dell 2007WFP.
It works correctly with a minidvi-dvi adapter, but I have another computer connected via dvi so I would like to keep the mini on vga.

The dell would not go to sleep, ever.
For anyone else having the same issue, I got it resolved. I got another VGA cable and it now works perfectly. It is possible the cable I was using was older and didn't have a required wire or maybe was broken.

  • Using Mac mini with LCD TV

I intend to use the mac mini with a 26" HD LCD TV with a resolition of 1366 * 768. Can anyone tell me if this will give a good quality display?

if this will give a good quality display?
That would depend on the quality of the TV. I am using my mac mini with a Samsung 26 inch HD tv. It works fine at that resolution using the VGA connector on the TV but If I use a DVI to HDMI connection to samsung wont let me use the native resolution which is annoying. So until there is a fix for this I have to use the VGA connection.

  • Mac Mini with Major Problems

I'll try to make this short, but it is a looonngg problem.
About one month ago my Mac Mini began having problems when I boot up.  The computer would freeze on the opening page where I put in my password.  My wireless keyboard and trackpad would not work.  This would be interminent at first but progressively got worse.
I spent hours on phone tech support.  Finally realizing that would not help I drove the 100 mile round trip to the local Apple store for a Genius bar appointment.
The first appointment (there have been 5 - meaning 500 miles) resulted in them doing a clean install of Lion.  I took the computer back to the office and guess what, the same problem.
I drove back to the Apple store, the Genius did some more work and proclaimed it fixed.  It was, for about 3 days when everything started again.
More time now on tech support.  One more trip to the Apple store.
This time they kept the Mac Mini for about 4 days are replaced the logic/mother board.
I got it back to the office on Thursday. Everthing works great.
Until today.  I boot the computer, it gets to the screen that has the apple on it - then nothing.
I manually power it down and reboot.  Same thing.
I've set up ANOTHER appointment at the Genius bar tomorrow.
My question: can I demand that they replace this machine.  Between work and home I have 2 Mac Mini's, a Macbook Pro, a Macbook Air and 2 iPhones.  I've never had this type of problem.  I'm really tired of this.
I purchased this in February so it is in warranty.
    Thanks

This is why I buy Mac/Apple!
Excellent new, sorry you had so much trouble on the way. And yes, Apple Stores are awesome!

  • HT204291 3th. gen apple TV with 5.2.1 and mac mini with 10.8.3, only black screen on TV after selecting Apple TV on the airplay icon. how to troubleshoot?

I have a 3th Gen Apple TV and a late 2012 mac mini with IOS 10.8.3
    - Connected thru HDMI to an ASUS monitor
    - Apple tv connected with wire
    - Mac Mini connected wireless.
    - I can see the Airplay icon on the screen
    - I can select my apple TV on the icon pull-down menu (first time it asked me for apple TV password)
    - Once selected, my monitor resolution changes and apple TV goes to a blank screen. On the pull-down menu, my apple TV papears selected and the option "match desktop size to:" is selected for my Apple TV.
Any ideas on how to troubleshoot?
    Additional Info:
    - I can stream from iTunes music with no problem
    - From an Air (on same wireless network) I can mirror my display. And form iPad and iPhone I can stream video and music.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    Restart your mobile device.

Sounds like you may have a hardware problem since it won't read from DVD, and it is only a year and a half old.  Hopefully all it is, is bad RAM*:

  • Hi Guys, I have a problem with Importing Pictures onto my Mac mini with Lion installed by using a Card Reader, What is the problem here so I can get Pictures onto my Computer. ,

    Hi Guys,
I have a problem with Importing Pictures onto my Mac mini with Lion installed by using a Card Reader,
What is the problem here so I can get Pictures onto my Computer. ,

    Hi Noob Søren
There are a few things that are confusing in your question.
As far as I know, you dont have to install Time Machine on this OS as it is already installed for you. You only need to connect a hard drive to your computer via firewire or usb, click on the Time Machine icon, Open Time Machine Preference in the drop down menu and select a disk: your connected hard drive.
You can of course reformat this connected device, partition it into a few volumes to organise data if you so wish.
I find it strange that your mac's hard drive is divided into two volumes... perhaps this was created through bootcamp?
You can access the configuration of your hd through Applications/Utilities/Disk Utilities.
Clicking on one of the icons on the right hand panel will bring the details of the contents of your hardDrive and volumes. From there you can decide to erase a partition, reformat etc....
If your hd contains more than one volume, and one of them is empty, you could decide to remove it. Back up all your important data before doing so.
    Hope this helps

You can in fact buy what you want, no need to go with Apple TV
To connect (wirelessly) your Mac to the HDMI on the TV:
They range from $100 on up.

  • Disable screen saver - Mac mini with OS X version 10.6.4

I am trying to disable the screen saver on a Mac Mini with Mac OS X version 10.6.4.
I have tried to disable it from System Preferences setting it to "never" and I have tried as well using the "defaults" command to set the idleTime in com.apple.screensaver to 0. Unfortunately, the screen saver starts after 20 minutes.
I have checked and there is no process with a name similar to screen saver.
Thank you in advance for your help,
    Antonio

      Hi dkaramit,
Thank you for your answer. The energy settings are set to never. I checked it as well with pmset -g. In addition, the screen saver in the com.apple.screensaver plist file appears after 20 minutes of inactivity.

  • After Yosemite, numerous problems on Mac Mini with Custom Fusion Drive

I have installed OS X Yosemite on a Mac Mini with a "homemade" fusion drive.  The update seems to have completed, although the following problems are evident:
Missing menu items from the menu bar, including the apple menu, notifications, time machine and others
Menu bar items return after booting non-apple software (MS Office, for instance), but disappear again once apple apps are running (App Store).  You can mouse over these menus, even though their respective icons are not there, and access the content within the menus.
iTunes crashes upon launch; app store launches, but no content loads.  Additionally, the app store menu item under the missing apple menu location, shows 4 software updates are available, but cannot load the app store content in order to access the updates.
Safari loads, but enters a continuous loop of "A problem occurred with this webpage so it was reloaded."  Then, a application quit notification window appears, stating "Safari Web Content quit unexpectedly."
Lots of spinning beachball now that was not happening prior to update.
I've tried resetting the machine numerous times.  Nothing seems to fix the problem(s)
The machine seems to recognize the fusion drive in system report, and all files are accessible in finder, so I don't think the fusion drive is the issue.
    Any suggestions, pointers, fixes?
