My Macbook is stuck in "Notebook Battery and Adapter Diagnostic"

I was trying to diagnose my power adapter and got my Macbook(removal battery) stuck in "Notebook Battery and Adapter Diagnostic".  I can't figure out how to exit it.  There doesn't seem to be a cancel or exit button.  I have tried resetting PRAM and doing the take the battery out and hold down power button for seconds.  My computer seems to be stuck here and I can't do anything at all.

Thank you for taking the trouble to reply, had already tried all of the above, to no avail in the end had to force quit by holding down start button.  Next morning when I started up it asked if I wanted to go into problem application or wait for start up I took 2nd option and all seems ok.  Again thank you C

You'll want to reset your SMC (System Management Controller). Instructions are simple:

  • Powerbook alternates between battery and adapter when plugged in

The other day my PB started alternating between battery and adapter when plugged in: the symbol changes from batt to charging every few seconds, brightness goes up and down. I've managed to find a position where it will actually charge. I even tried a new adapter, but it's still extremely temperamental.
I'm afraid there's something wrong with the internal power jack, but is there anything else it could be? Any way to tweak the jack?
    Thanks!

No, there's no way to "adjust" the port. It's soldered to a small Sound/DC-In card inside the Powerbook. What's apparently happened to yours is that the cord has been jerked rougly up, down or sideways one time too many, and one or more of the solder joints has broken. Because it's now able to move, however slightly, the rest of the joints are also being stressed every time you connect or disconnect the cord. Sooner or later another will break, then another. You'll end up having to replace the card when you can no longer shim or jimmy the port so it makes proper contact.
If you're very good at very small-scale soldering, you could take the card out and try to repair it, but if you're an average ham-handed Joe like me, replacing the board is a better bet. Getting to it, while not actually difficult, is a pretty considerable adventure in an Albook, because nearly everything else has to be removed from the case first to reach it.

  • Why is my iPhone 4s stuck on 8% battery and why will it not restart for 12 hours when it dies?

I've had my iPhone 4s for almost 2 years now and the only thing I've had done was my battery and charging port replaced about 9 months ago.About a month ago, I noticed the battery indicator was jumping around when I looked at it, then it just stayed stuck on 26% until it I accidently let it die one day. I tried to plug it in to several chargers, but it kept flashing the apple symbol and going black. I tried a charger with a 2.1amp plug in and discovered that the phone turned on, but it will only stay on for 5 minutes or so then it freezes and dies, also, every time it turns back on it shows the correct battery % for that time. So when I leave it plugged in for about 12 hours(possibly when it gets over 50% charged?), it will stay on and I've been using it like that for a month, without the proper battery indication and only able to charge on one specific charger. It's a 16gig, so it's close to full and I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it or not. People have said it may be the battery or some kind of ground that is missing, but I really don't know. Any advice?

I have this same issue... the phone was fine, then 3 days ago then I noticed it was draining itself whilst on charge. Now it charges to 1% and lasts all day on that unless I reboot, then it just says plug it in and wont reboot! I have had a 100% charge, but it drained down to 9% in under an hour and then stayed at 9% all day. This is obviously an issue, so why is Apple not sorting it out?
Also, these kind of comments (BELOW) are about as useful as, "is it plugged in?"
    "diesel vdub Atlanta, GA
Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore.
Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved."
I have tried 3 cables, 2 wall chargers and 2 docks, so it has nothing to do with those. I have cleaned the connections, so it's not dirt. It isn't water damage as the phone has been nowhere near water.

  • My MacBook Pro laptop says 'service battery' and doesn't charge very well but my Mac is 5 years old. Is it worth buying a new battery or do you think I should buy a new mac?

    Hi guys,
I can only leave my MacBook Pro unplugged for an hour maximum and it never seems to fully charge. It says on the Mac to service battery - which I guess means buy a new battery.
I have had my MacBook for over 5 years now and it does get used probably every day, if not every other. If I brought a new battery would it all work normally again or is it getting old and do I need a new one?
Also, my charger seems to be playing up a bit now as well. It's seems to be temperamental when I plug it in and takes to while to light up and charge.  I've attached an image of the battery bit on my laptop as the lead seems to be fine - is this normal?
    Thanks in advance guys.

Is there any application(s) that your current Mac cannot run that only a new can?  Calculate the cost per year of your current MBP and compare that to the cost of a new battery.  Spread the battery cost over a year or two of additional operation, how do the dollar amounts compare?  If the MBP is functioning properly, I generally find it is more cost effective to keep it.
If the retina display and the SSD storage are very desirable from your perspective, then that becomes a different matter.  You are the one to make the final decision.
    Ciao.

  • Battery and Adapter

I am new to MAC and started with a MAC Book Pro and an iMac. These were purchased a week ago. Today while using the MBP, I noticed that the indicator light on the adapter plug was amber or red. The bottom of my MBP is very hot and the light is only green when I first turn on the computer. Do I have a problem? I also tried the the battery download and was told that it is not needed.

I've never seen red, amber means it's charging the battery. You can also go to Applications>Utilities>System Profiler>Power and check to see how much battery life is left, maximum capacity, etc.
Since your notebooks are new I would do a complete drain of the battery, then a complete charge w/o interruption. This will calibrate your battery and maximize its lifetime.

  • My MacBook Pro ran out of battery and shut down ,will power up but goes   to panic screen on start up but nothing else , how can I get past this screen to try  to fix problem?

MacBook Pro battery ran low and computer shut down , after charging battery I tried to start up and I got an Apple on a gray screen with spinning wheel that went to a panic call out screen and that's as far as it will go. I've tried start up with command keys ,a few got me to a different screen but nothing has let me into any place I can use to try and repair problem. Anybody have an idea of what's wrong with my laptop and a way to fix it ?

see if you can start up in safe mode.  What is safe mode?

  • Macbook - Shuts down with low battery and doesn't go to sleep

I have a Black MacBook 2.16 core duo and have been dealing with this same issue for about 6 months.
At first, the MB (macbook) worked perfectly. battery would get to 5% or so, warn me then go to sleep, then write a safe sleep image, then shutdown. I would turn it back on and it would restore the image to where I left off.
After about 2 months this stopped working properly. When running solely off the battery, the MB would get to about 20% and just shutdown. ppbbbbllltt!
I've spent endless hours on the phone with people in the Phillipines and sitting at Genius Bars. I've gone through all the things mentioned in Apple's support thread: calibrated the battery, reset PRAM, reset SMC / PMU, updated the battery uupdater to 1.1 then 1.2 (I think that 1.3 is only for MB Pros)
I'm on my THIRD BATTERY..it's happening again...at least with the first 2 it worked for a couple of months. With this battery, it bombed out on the first cycle that I went through.
Is this the logic board or the motherboard or something else??
Any other ideas on what to try?
Is this a hardware issue (IE motherboard, logic board...) ?
Is this a software issue (IE - OSX) ?
Is it a firware issue (IE - battery firware) ?
    I'm at a loss....

If it's your third battery you need to have Apple look at the computer itself. As you know now switching batteries is not fixing it. I would guess it is in the power control circuit which is on the motherboard. You need to call and get it checked out.

  • 2011 Macbook Pro Stuck on White Screen and Won't Shut Down

    Greetings,
I just received a 15 inch Macbook Pro with a 2.2 i7 processor earlier today. On my previous computer, a 2009 MB P with a Core2Duo, I've had a shutdown issue on it for the past week or so: when I click the power button, and confirm the shutdown, the computer would start shutting down as normal, however once it reached the white screen with the spinning loading symbol at the bottom, it just got stuck on that. As I've transfered my old data to my brand new computer, I'm still having the same issue with it. I was wondering if this was due to a worm, or some software incompliancy? If anyone could shed any light, I'd be greatful.
    Thanks.

Were you using any of them when the issue occurred (or just prior to it)?
Have you looked for updates on all of them?
If you want to do some digging, open Console and look at the logs at, and just prior to, the time of the issue.

  • My 15inch retina MacBook Pro ran out of battery and even after charging it. It can't seem to turn on. Anyone knows a quick way to fix this?

I was working on my MacBook when it suddenly shut down. I realised that I forgot to charge it. However after charging it for a few minutes of charging and several attempts at holding the power button down. It doesn't seem to turn on.

Keep it charging for several hours.

  • My macbook is stuck on blue screen and won't load

Hi. Ive recently had problems with my computer. It's a white macbook and one day after I woke up it got stuck so I force turned it off. When I tried turning it on it goes to the screen with the apple logo and the spinning wheel. After a few minutes it just goes to a blue screen and nothing happens. I have a lot of work on it and I don't want to wipe the computer. Also I've tried almost everything to solve this problem but it doesn't work. Can anyone help me?

You'll have to get your device checked by visiting an Apple Store or Authorized Apple Service Provider, your problem might be hardware related.
Apple Support can also take care of that:

  • MacBook with a year old battery and 340 cycles has consumed its battery?

Since I purchased my MacBook which was about 2 years ago It has been repaired 3 times due to the flickering of the screen. They have changed the battery last year and since then the battery has only lasted about 2 hours. I took it to the Mac store and the genius told me that the machine is at 341 and the battery has been consumed?? How is that possible? I've never been able to get anything more than 2 hours with this labtop. I feel that I got a lemon and they won't just admit it! I'm not impressed....Anyone else with the same problem?

How long your battery lasts on a charge is directly related to how you use your MacBook.
Those that like to watch DVD's or YouTube a lot, will run the batteries down fairly fast. Also, if you fan is running a lot, this also runs down the battery fast. If you have the minimum RAM in your MB, then accessing your hard drive more often will also accelerate your battery drain. Have you been calibrating your battery? You should do it about once per month?
As they say, "Your mileage may differ." depending on how you drive your car.
Give us more information and we may be able to help you. Is this your first Mac?

  • Please help me! MacBook Pro stuck on apple logo and spinning wheel

Hi I'm really desperate and need help! My MacBook just stopped loading and would stay on the gray screen with the apple logo and spinning wheel.
I have tried safe mode and it would load a little and stop and then the loading bar would be blank and it would stay like that forever!!
I also have tried doing the single user mode and when I type the fsck - fy it will do a couple more lines then it will say error like a hundred times :(
I did verbose mode and it would just give me stuff that I have no idea what it saying I left on verbose mode for like 5 hours and it would just give me lines of stuff I have no idea what it's saying!
I downloaded lion through apple store so I don't have the disk I only have my snow leopard disk
Please please someone tell me a solution it's my moms laptop and I don't want to get in trouble!

Reboot in recovery mode an possibly repair over the internet.
    Command-R to the rescue.
Just hold down Command-R during startup and OS X Recovery springs into action. It lets you choose from common utilities: You can run Disk Utility to check or repair your hard drive, erase your hard drive and reinstall a fresh copy of OS X, or restore your Mac from a Time Machine backup. You can even use Safari to get help from Apple Support online. And if OS X Recovery encounters problems, it will automatically connect to Apple over the Internet.
