My MacBook Pro keyboard doesn't work to log in, but lets me type if I'm logged in as a guest. What do I do?
OK, some more info.
I have re-installed os/x and applied all of the updates.
I have tried to migrate my existing accounts and the problem consistently manifests as below:
1. In a new user account, I can log in and use the keyboard then logout
2. If I log in to the migrated user account, the non-numeric keys on the keyboard do not work. If I then log out, and try to log in to another account on the same machine, the non-numeric keys continue not to work.
This would seem to suggest that as the profiles being migrated are on a machine with the same version of up to date OS/X, the issue lies with either the Macbook Pro (other people have also had keyboard problems) or with the migration assistant not working properly given that the current profiles work fine on another mac.
Any more ideas anyone?

Can't login...MacBook Pro keyboard doesn't work
Have. MacBook Pro...purchased in 12/2013...trying to login but keyboard and trackpad not working...when I plug in mouse the cursor moves but that's it...help! Please
1. If none of the keys work, your computer may be showing a low battery alert that you can’t see.
Connect your computer to an electric outlet or an external keyboard to see the alert.

Macbook Pro Keyboard isn't working.
When I log on to the PC side of my macbook pro the keyboard doesn't work! The mouse works, it's just the keyboard. The light when I press CapsLock also doesn't light up.
But! When I switch to the mac side, my keyboard works there!
If I plug in a keyboard to the usp port, it works as well. (On the PC side)
I have no idea why all of a sudden it is doing this, it worked fine yesterday. This Macbook pro is brand new, I got it in June. It also has an iskin on the keyboard and nothing has been spilled on the keyboard.

Liquid damage is progressive.
You can take the computer to the nearest Apple store and see what can they do for you.

I have a macbook pro (i7) 13'', everything was working properly, but out of a sudden the keyboard is dead & won't respond to anything, now I can't login. I restarted it many times but still the same problem. Any suggestions??!!! help me out plssss.
Thanks so much..I just went through something with my MacBook Pro 13" where I was using a USB mouse and a MIDI keyboard. I left the computer for a while and it went into sleep mode and when I came back to it, the machine was very slow to respond. I shut out of everything and rebooted only to find that neither my built-in trackpad or keyboard was working anymore. I plugged in my USB mouse and that worked, and then a USB keyboard and that worked, but no signal from my built-in peripherals.
I ran a disc repair, cleaned out everything I could, updated all software, etc. etc. -- nothing... until finally I read something about how Java can cause a problem. I then went into my advanced settings and deleted everything in Java and Flash security. Also making it very difficult for those two applications to save anything to my machine. Once I rebooted my keyboard and trackpad were fullly functional again.
Wanted to share this because it was such an unintuitive fix but my computer is back at full speed again. -
MacBook Pro display doesn't work
Hi everyone,
My MacBook Pro's display has been working erratically in the last weeks.
The first time, the display did not work for two day. Second time for almost a week (during Easter) and now for three days.
I've never had any hardware related issues with my old Apple computers, so this is very strange to me.
I've already followed the instructions posted here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300537
The computer seems to work normally, I can hear the startup chime and the drive spinning if I get close to the machine. The problem is the display or the graphics card.
I am in Peru at the moment and contacted the local Apple Reseller and they've told me it takes approximately 60 days to have it repaired. I'm thinking about flying to the US to have it repaired quickly, I can't wait that long.
My Mac's specs are:
MacBookPro3,1
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz 2 Cores; 4MB L2 Cache; 4GB RAM; 800MHz Bus Speed;
Boot ROM Version: MBP31.0070.B00

VRAM (Total): 256 MB
Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de)
Device ID: 0x0407
Revision ID: 0x00a1

Depth: 32-bit Color
Built-In: Yes
Core Image: Hardware Accelerated
Main Display: Yes

Has anyone had a similar problem? Were you able to solve it without taking it to Apple?
Thanks for your help!
Percy
Message was edited by: YoQuieroTacoBellI am going to chime in because I had the problem, did an archive and install which fixed the display problem but a display issue is back again! When I did the Archive and Install, I purposefully did NOT install the graphics update. That fixed the issue until yesterday...... I think the monitors worked alright when I started up in the morning but later in the day, I noticed that the external monitor (SyncMaster225BW) was a yellowish color and the letters were distorted. Ok, so I unplugged it and previously when I unplugged it (since the Archive and Install anyway), the MBP display would go blue but come right back on. Not so yesterday. It stayed blue so I had to press the power button to get it to go off. Booted up and came on. Plugged the external monitor in (can't remember if I plugged it in while it was shut down or after) and it worked fine. Booted up this morning and the resolution and color on both monitors was yellowish and not right. In fact "mirroring" was turned on, something that I did not choose. Recalibrated my MBP monitor. Got that right. Oh, and yesterday and today, I had to choose my background pictures for both monitors. Couldn't get the external monitor to work right so unplugged it which caused the MBP monitor to go blue and stay blue. Had to reboot again. Left the external monitor unplugged. Started writing this post and plugged in the external monitor again and all is right. Both have the correct background picture and resolution and in the menu bar, both are listed with the correct names (first thing this morning they weren't named Color LCD and SyncMaster). So anyway, that is my display woes. I was so happy that all was well after doing the Archive and Install and not doing the graphics update but something else is going on now. Not sure what. Hope this issue gets fixed soon! Please Apple....... Judy

Macbook pro charger doesn't work!
My charger worked ten minutes ago and suddenly it stopped working. I got the macbook pro a year ago, I am wondering if I can still exchange my charger for a new one at the apple store? What do I need to bring to the store?
Before jumping to the conclusion that your adapter must be replaced, follow the steps in this article:

Macbook Pro trackpad doesn't work on word
My macbook pro mouse trackpad isn't working while I'm on microsoft word. It works on other application like safari but refuses to work on word. It still clicks and i can use the sidebar to move up and down pages but i am unable to slide down the page using two fingers.
Hello jwilliams112,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that your trackpad is not functioning as you would expect only while using Microsoft Word on your MacBook Pro. In this situation, I would suggest reading over and working through the If the issue occurs in one application only section in the attached article for troubleshooting information.

Macbook Pro screen doesn't work
When I opened my Macbook Pro the screen was white. I googled for a few minutes and found that I had to clear my PRAM. I did this and now the screen is black. When I connect an external monitor you can see the background on it but I can't do anything since I can't see my main screen.

Macbook pro keyboard won't work
Everything was working fine, then all of the sudden the keyboard started acting up. If you press certain buttons it just wont let it type. I press certain buttons and the wrong action occurs, for example, i pressed "z" and the volume started turing down. Also, the track pad is acting up, it only right clicks no matter what. Please help, I have restarted it lots of times and sometimes it will work for a little bit then start acting up. It seems like everytime I restart it gets worse. HELP!!
Hi c,
Depending on which MBP you have, it could be the keyboard/trackpad cable, so it would be good to know that information. Also, have you tried an external keyboard? -
New Macbook Pro 17" doesn't sleep when lid closed, but works if done manual
I never had this problem with my last macbook pro. This is the new unibody 17"
The computer will not go to sleep when I shut the lid. The screen stays on (the apple logo glows). And the little light on the right stays solid (no blinking).
Yet, when I go to the apple in the top left of the screen and manually put the computer to sleep, it goes to sleep very normally.
Please Help!

Running Recovery DVD Win8 pro, keyboard doesn't work
hello,
i've got thinkCentre E93 with win 7 pro instaled, and i'm trying to recover win 8, using "recovery Media for Windows 8 products", which was in my computer's box.
After rebooting computer with this DVD:
- it starts to load files,
- Lenovo Recovery and Restore 4.0 starts,
- pops up a window to choise language,
- keyboard and mouse fail, i'm not able to make any move, exept from turning of the computer.
I've tryed wired, and wireless keybords, they work in Win 7, and in BIOS, but not with Recovery media. any clues?
I'don't have .iso of Win 8 prof to install it direcly.Dear podjaadek
During the popup windows to language selection, disconnect keyboard and mouse and reconnect again. If still does not work, wait for few second or try to connect to other ports.

Macbook Pro keyboard keys not working
I am honestly so fed up. For the past three days keys have not been working. It started with the question mark and slash button now it's the command, six button, equal sign, and I'm typing in the dark because the key that increases the keyboard light is not working. Soon enough the backlight key will stop working and I'll be in the dark. I've read a couple forums and have tried every single troubleshooting that they've suggested and nothing seems to work. I also can't take it in anytime this weekend due to work. Anything I can possibly do (question mark). Also, trying to fix the question mark button I seemed to have ripped off the key and now it won't go back into place. my question is will apple replace this for free. Thank you. Also, I seemed to notice that the problems started occuring after I bought one of those keyboard covers. Pretty sure that has something to do with it. Since I'll probably have to go in on monday is there anyway I can change some keys so that for example, when I press shift and another button i'll get a question mark. Thank you.
The easiest thing to do might be to get an external keyboard for the moment. As for replacing the key for free, you might get them to do it. If it's just a matter of getting the keycap back on, they probably will. If you broke it off and damaged the keyboad circuitboard, the whole keyboard assembly may need replacement.
Have you tried resetting the SMC and PRAM?

The left side of the keyboard seems to be working fine but the DEL button and other buttons are doing strange commands. The DEL button is adjusting the brightness and other F commands.
The O is not working at all. Some other letters are coming up with other characters.Try a different keyboard with your computer if possible. If it woks well, it's a hardware problem.
