My magic trackpad is not level anymore.

During the first month or so of use it sat perfectly level on the table but now it's just slightly off. It's sort of like when you have a three legged table and one of the legs is too short so the table will wobble when weight is put on it. I've examined the trackpad and it looks like it's still completely fine and  tried using it different surfaces, but the problem remains.

The trackpad's two front legs retract into the pad for the physical click function.  It sounds like one of them is stuck.  Turn it upside down and press on the rubber pad "legs" and see if you can free the culprit.

  • After pairing in Bootcamp, magic trackpad does not work

after pairing in Bootcamp, magic trackpad a) does not control cursor and b) does not persist after closing Bluetooth devides dialog.
    Summary of Problem:
Magic Trackpad is found and paired, but does not control the mouse.
When you shut the Bluetooth devices and reopen (or reboot and reopen), the device is not listed.
    Detials of problem:
Bootcamp 3.1 (i cannot find a later one) Windows XP all updates, All Apple Software Updates (to bootcamp and mac os x) installed, Magic Trackpad driver download and installed.
Control Panel, Bluetooth Devices, Add - it detectes the magic track pad (ie track pad blinking, click add) everytime
    - It asks about a pass code, I have tried it without a pass code and with automatically Generate Passcode; does this setting matter?
In bluetooth devides, the track pad shows with "Auto Generated passkey" when that is the option selected
Found new hardware comes up, Apple Wireless Trackpad, everything looks fine.
    - In Bluetooth Devices, it shows the trackpad wiht "no passkey", even when I told it to automatically generate one.
The track pad does not control the cursor.
Close Bluetooth Devices and reopen it, or reboot and reopen Bluetooth devices, and the track pad is gone.
Rebooting does not change the outcome of above.
I have gone to device manager and tried to update the two (apple & microsoft) Bluetooth drivers with the update button, it says I have the most current.
I do not see how to tell if the Magic Trackpad driver is installed, so I tried installing it again. It does appear to be listed under HID in device manager.
I have done a lot of googling, wasted a lot of time, if I cannot get it to work, I will return it to the apple store.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    bob

Bob, cannot help directly but I am having a similar problem on my MacBook Pro with Windows 7 Pro. Pretty much the same symptoms except my trackpad is not always recognized - it seems I have to click it to get Bluetooth to see it. Windows claims to have seen it OK on one occasion and installed the drivers, asked for a reboot etc. but the TrackPad still does not respond.
Works OK on the Mac side although it is not recognized as a separate Bluetooth trackpad which can be configured differently from the built-in. I wonder if this might be a clue?
I have installed the patch and tried a bunch of other things. Seems like Apple has some work to do sorting out the bugs on both the Mac and Windows side with this device. Pity because its an excellent piece of kit otherwise!

  • Magic trackpad will not pair

I have OS 10.8.3 with a magic trackpad. I removed USB overdrive and trashed my bluetooth preferences and still I can not get the trackpad to pari. Followed the instructions from this link. It had paired in the past but this morning I lost the device.  I removed it from the bluetooth list and tryed to re-connect.  Nothing appears to work. This trackpad works on my iMac, so it is a know good device. (I have since un-paired it fromt eh iMac)
    Any help would be great.

I found I had the same problem... Was your trackpad hooked up to different computer in the past?  Mine was, after I removed it from my old computer, it worked fine....

  • My trackpad is not responding anymore, any suggestions??

I have had my macbbok pro for a month now and my trackpad has been fine unitl recently, is anyone able to give a suggestion on how to fix it?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
First, reset the PRAM > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379 Then, reset the SMC > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If, after doing those steps, the trackpad doesn't work, hold the Shift key while your computer is starting to start into safe mode, and see if the trackpad works. If not, turn on the Mac holding Command and R keys, and reinstall OS X. If nothing works, take the computer to an Apple Store or reseller to get the Mac repaired or replaced

  • HT201806 Can I use a Magic Trackpad, but not be discoverable?

I want to use the trackpad, but I don't want the Mac Mini to be discoverable by other devices. How do I make this happen?

I think I figured out what was happening.
If I have the bluetooth preferences window open, it tells me my Mac Mini is now discoverable. If I close that box and then alt+click the bluetooth icon in the top bar, it says I am not discoverable. As I understand it, disabling "bluetooth sharing" in the sharing preferences and not having your bluetooth preferences open means you are not discoverable.
    Thank you for your input.

  • My magic trackpad will not work (at all) in Parallels (W7)

The trackpad works beautifully on my Intel iMac (Lion) 10.7.2, but will not work at all under Windows 7 on Parallels. All latest updates of everything to my knowledge.
I find no notes on this either on the Parallels site or here. Am i the only one in the universe having this problem. To be clear, there is no response from the pad whatever - nada, bupkis.
Maybe I have to pair it manually with Windows? That seems odd since everything else works fine that is connected to the iMac.
    Tips, hunches, soothing words?
    Thanks!

If you downloaded and installed the Windows support software in accordance with the instructions, you now have a diamond shaped icon in the Windows task bar. Clicking this icon opens the Bootcamp control panel where all your trackpad settings can be configured.

  • Magic trackpad scrolling not working new iMac 5k

I just received my new iMac with Trackpad included and the two finger scrolling is not working.  I have verified settings, made sure I am in a scrollable window with the cursor, tried turning on and off natural scrolling and other options to no avail.  I did transfer from my old iMac and it is possible there was something on it that was interfering.  I did delete the software for my old mouse.  I am at a loss for what to try next but am very frustrated and disappointed that this is not working.

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • Magic Trackpad is not letting me swipe between full screen apps.

I am pretty sure it was doing it before but now it has stopped. I can do everything else but I'm just not able to swipe between apps.
    Thanks

The little scroll ball is probably dirty because it is a random problem. Turn it upside down on a clean fabric surface, or your mouse pad, and rub it all around till the dirt is cleaned out. My scroll quit working in one direction and I searched and searched the community here till I found this relatively easy answer to my problem.
I used my denim jeans and every thing is working a ok now.
    Hope this helps ...

  • Magic Trackpad is not pairing with my Mac Pro

    Hello.
I just got a new Mac. It worked with the trackpad for a while, but then I picked up the trackpad and I was holding down the side button without knowing it. It lost connection with the Mac and now I cannot re-connect it.
I have no idea if it is turned on or off.
Also, when I go to Bluetooth and delete and re-add it as a device, the Mac can see it (which means that it is on), but it fails to pair every time. I've tried this 5 or 6 times.
I rebooted the Mac, and I even deleted the com.apple.Bluetooth.plist file and started from scratch. It still sees the device but refuses to pair.
    Help!!

Try these in this order to see if one of them fixes your problems: (1) SMC reset, (2) PRAM reset, and (3) reset BT to factory settings.  Re-pair after doing these of course.

  • Windows 7 on iMac 27" Late 2009, Magic Trackpad issue.

    Hello,
I have successfully installed Windows 7 64 bit on my iMac 27" Late 2009 model using Boot Camp and my magic trackpad is not functioning the way it should be. The trackpad works however does not recognise secondary click. There is no option to activate this and the tap to click function is not available either. Also my magic mouse does not want to connect when in Windows mode. I downloaded all the drivers that Mac downloaded for me from Boot Camp Assistant however the trackpad is still not 100% functional. I am not expecting all the gestures to work however i would to have the secondary click and tap to click function to work.
Any suggestions? BTW i am running Lion OS X.

  • Batteries stuck in my magic trackpad - any ideas

My son's magic trackpad was not used for some time and when I tried to use it today the batteris were stuck.  I managed to remove the first battery by banging in on the table but the second one won't come out.  Any suggestions on how to remove it without damaging the product?

You can only use a tool that will provide leverage but you will also understand no-one here can accept responsibility for what happens.
If you do get it out, be sure to thoroughly clean the contact points before putting in new batteries.   They have clearly leaked and will leave residue which will affect or even prevent performance.
If you go to a local computer repairer, they may help but unless it is an Apple authorised store, do not let them do any more than that.

  • Magic trackpad gesture issues

My magic trackpad does not do a two finger scroll nor does it allow any other gestures. (Macbook air running Maverics).

Starting off with the easy to do fix.
There are two .plists in your user Library/Preferences.
    com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.mouse.plist
    com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.trackpad.plist
Hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command. Enter ~/Library/Preferences.  Move the .plists  to your desktop.
Restart  and test. If it works okay, delete the plists from the desktop.
If  the same, return the .plists to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/04/show-library-directory-in-mac-os-x-lion/
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.4. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • My iMac's Bluetooth isn't detecting the Wireless KB nor the Magic Trackpad.

    Hi All,
I've been trying to pair my Wireless Kb and Magic Trackpad with my 24" iMac but with no use.
I've went to the preferences of the bluetooth and tried to detect them but it just can't find them, also I've tried to connect the phone to it (just to see if the BT works) but even that isn't found.
I have the latest OS and I don't know what's the problem.
    Please advise... Thanks.

There are two known cures for this problem, documented on other threads that you can find by searching for "magic trackpad."
    1. Uninstall USB Overdrive, if you ever installed it in the first place. It comes with an uninstaller, which you should run. But the uninstaller doesn't remove everything, so you have to search in the Finder (with system files included) for any file with "usboverdrive" in the file name, and delete them. Then reboot.
    2. The problem may recur shortly after removing USB Overdrive. If it does recur, or if you never installed USB Overdrive, do this:
Shut down your Mac, unplug the power cord, unplug the USB cable from all USB devices, wait a minute or two, plug the power cord back in, start up, then replug all USB devices (the last step will give you back control of your keyboard and other USB devices). Maybe you should shut down and restart again, but I don't think you have to.
Here's the explanation for step 2: On many Macs (maybe all Macs), Bluetooth is handled through a USB driver. For some reason, the USB Bluetooth driver can become disabled. The symptom is that the Bluetooth preference pane no longer appears in System Preferences or, if it does appear, a line of text at the top of the Bluetooth pane says something like "Name of device unknown." In addition, if you had the Bluetooth menu item set to show in the menubar, it appears with a squiggly line through it, and its only menu item says something like "Bluetooth: not available." After you apply the cures described above, the Bluetooth preference pane will once again appear in System Preferences and work correctly (once you re-pair your Magic Trackpad, if you have to do that), and the Bluetooth menu item will function normally. You can also verify that everything is working correctly by running System Profiler and selecting Hardware > USB. When the Magic Trackpad is working correctly, you will see that one of the USB drivers is described as the Bluetooth USB driver. When Magic Trackpad is not working, the Bluetooth item is missing from the list of USB drivers.
Another symptom, in my case, was that when the Magic Trackpad stopped working, iTunes stopped recognizing my iPhone 4 on its third-party USB charging stand. When I applied these cures, iTunes once again recognized the iPhone. I'm guessing that any USB device might become flaky while the Magic Trackpad isn't working, perhaps due to interaction unique to your particular setup.
I have reported all this to Apple on the developer bug report site, and Apple has responded with interest. So I think they're on it.
    Hope this helps.

  • MAGIC TRACKPAD WITH PAINTSHOP - SPECIAL CONFIGURATIONS AVALIABLE ?

I like the new magic trackpad but not to be used with Photoshop. The pressure needed with the finger to "paint" is far less confortable than using a Magic Mouse.
Is there any special configuration SW to be used to get a better performance with PS ?
    Thanks.

I just noticed the same thing = I hadn't used it much but just moved up to Lion and started to and it wouldn't work = but when I read your issue I tried it with a wet finger and it worked.  I can't even read the serial number on it so can't call for help.  Any other suggestions??  I bought it in late April.

  • Magic Trackpad battery level nagging

I'm using a Magic Trackpad which sadly exists in BT version only.
Under 10.6, I'd be informed once in a while that the battery level was getting low, and those notifications would be once a day at most, and disappear automatically.
A true reminder for something not quite urgent that requires immediate attention.
With 10.9, those reminders have morphed into something really too intrusive. They keep coming back much more frequently, and require user intervention to disappear. That would be OKish if the level estimation were reliable (and then only under a really low value, say 3% or so). But they aren't: yesterday I got several messages interrupting my workflow and user experience (watching a movie) suggesting the batteries (Apple rechargables) were indeed dying rapidly, but after removing and putting them back they have now been at 14% for approx. 2h . The OS appears to consider that low; knowing how long you can still run on that kind of remaining juice I disagree.
So the question is: can these reminders be configured - if not specifically (per sender), at a user-wide or system-wide level?

This is getting ridiculous.  The battery dropped to 2% last night, so I put in another charged pair of Eneloops, confirmed battery level at 100%, and put the laptop to sleep from the menu.  This morning ... they're at 0%.  (and disconnect immediately, so it's not just a monitoring problem).
If seems as if the trackpad never goes to sleep.  Anyone else having these issues, or should I just contact Apple and see if they'll replace a 3 day old trackpad?
