Magic trackpad gesture issues

My magic trackpad does not do a two finger scroll nor does it allow any other gestures. (Macbook air running Maverics).

Starting off with the easy to do fix.
There are two .plists in your user Library/Preferences.
com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.mouse.plist
com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.trackpad.plist
Hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command. Enter ~/Library/Preferences.  Move the .plists  to your desktop.
Restart  and test. If it works okay, delete the plists from the desktop.
If  the same, return the .plists to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/04/show-library-directory-in-mac-os-x-lion/
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.4. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

    hi,
my magic trackpad has issue with 3 finger swipe between applications or swipe issue after OS X 10.8.1 update.
Anyone facing the same issue? Thanks.

Did you check System Preferences - Trackpad ? Also I'm not sure exactly what 3 fingered swipe are you referring to?

  • Magic Trackpad battery issue: should I get a new one?

    Hi,
I think my Magic Trackpad is dying... It started eating regular batteries, since I coulld not work more than 8 hours with them on the MT. I bought the Mobee Power Bar, but it dies in 3 hours...
    http://www.mobeetechnology.com/the-power-bar.html
So, I guess my MT is dying. Any possible solutions? Thanks

Depends to some degree on the batteries, the means of charging (if they are rechargeable) or the level of quality if they are not.   Rechargeable batteries have worked well for me though they do not give anything like the advertised working rate, I'm lucky to get 14 days.   Alkaline batteries are often promoted 12 for the price of 6 or some equally stupid rate and are often substandard because of it.
    What type are you using?

  • Odd trackpad gesture issues

It always starts when I tap with two fingers to zoom in to read articles. It wouldn't zoom, and everything stops working. Scrolling doesn't work. Going back to previous page doesn't work. Clicking on back button on the top left corner doesn't work either... It's stuck on the current webpage. Entering a new address will not take me anywhere either. It just stays on the same page. If I restart Safari, everything seems to work fine until I use gestures like zoom and going back to previous page (scrolling works). Gestures work on other applications though. It only happens on Safari. If I restart the computer, Safari works fine. But eventually the problem comes back somehow.
I talked to someone at Apple store, and he recommended replacing my trackpad, which will cost around $140... Do I really have to replace the trackpad? I also have Snow Leopard on a different partition, and all the gestures work flawlessly. Furthermore, like I mentioned above, I'm only having issues with the gestures on Safari. Is there any other solution to this other than replacing the trackpad?

If a repair tech who actually examined your trackpad said you do, why don't you believe him/her?  No one here can answer as we do not physically have access to your MBP to examine or perform diagnostic testing.  The only thing I can recommend is that you check out KB Article: CLICKY CLICK---> http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1248 Intel-based Apple Portables: Troubleshooting unresponsive trackpad issues

Are you saying that the trackpad works in other browsers as well as in the Finder & offline?

  • Magic Trackpad Zoom issues

I've just bought a Trackpad but so far I've only been able to use the zoom function with Safari. It doesnt seem to work with Firefox or my other apps, is this right or am I doing something wrong?
I also have a zoom function on my mouse and that seems to zoom in on Firefox and even my desktop!

    Hi Steve,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the issue. If you are referring to Multi-Touch gestures, there are several zoom options, some of which vary between the mouse and the trackpad, with various support in certain applications. You may find the following article helpful:

  • Magic Trackpad Dragging Issue

I have dragging turned on and drag lock turned off. whenever I double-tap something to drag it, I have to release my finger for about 1 second before it releases the drag lock. This is really annoying, as I want it to release as soon as I release my finger. Can I change this?

  • How to activate Magic Trackpad multitouch gestures?

I just upgaded to Lion, and the Magic Trackpad doesn't seem to work properly anymore.
The trackpad preferences don't show the multitouch gestures tab, and I can't even two finger scroll.
I tried to disconnect and reconnect, re-pairing the device in bluetooth, rebooting, but still no luck.
    Any idea?
    EDIT:
I've read that USB Overdrive may be an issue withe the Magic Trackpad on Lion, but I have uninstalled it (properly) before I pugraded, so it shouldn't be the cause of my problem.

My machine is an early 2008 24" iMac with Mountain Lion. I was already using USB Overdrive. I tried using a Magic Trackpad and Magic Mouse.
None of the trackpad gestures or tap to click etc, were working.
I tried to fix it and none of the standard approaches worked for me - removing USB Overdrive, including .plist and .kext files, re-setting PRAM and SMC, rediscovering via Blutooth etc.
I finally sorted it by installing Magic Prefs, which worked straight away and gave me good control over how it worked. I was also having no luck with the Magic Mouse gestures and this sorted that as well.

  • Any one has problems with Magic Trackpad´s gestures on mavericks?

all my gestures have fade away with my last upgrade to 10,9,1, Even they appear to be activated but they just doesn´t work.
    any one solved it?

    Hi totito1984,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
My first suggestion is to simply restart your computer which will reset your Magic Trackpad.
If that does not resolve the issue ... try the troubleshooting steps in this article:

  • Windows 7 on iMac 27" Late 2009, Magic Trackpad issue.

    Hello,
I have successfully installed Windows 7 64 bit on my iMac 27" Late 2009 model using Boot Camp and my magic trackpad is not functioning the way it should be. The trackpad works however does not recognise secondary click. There is no option to activate this and the tap to click function is not available either. Also my magic mouse does not want to connect when in Windows mode. I downloaded all the drivers that Mac downloaded for me from Boot Camp Assistant however the trackpad is still not 100% functional. I am not expecting all the gestures to work however i would to have the secondary click and tap to click function to work.
Any suggestions? BTW i am running Lion OS X.
    Regards
    Abhishek

    Hey Guys,
I was able to start boot manager. I had 4 options:
    1. Macintosh HD
    2. Recovery-10.8.2
    3. Windows
    4. EFI Boot
I choose option 3 (Windows). But i got the following message.
    CDBOOT: Couldn't find BOOTMGR
    Any idea?

  • Bluetooth Magic Trackpad issues

    Hi All,
I tried to find similar question in discussions, but I couldn’t.
After upgrade to OSX Mavericks I have big problem with my magic trackpad connected via Bluetooth. When I start using OSX everything is ok, but after 5-10 minutes I see how trackpad somehow is losing the connection or pointer on the screen is moving with some “jumping” moves. It’s annoying and it happens only with trackpad - when I connect Logitech mouse connected with USB dongle, everything is fine. Sometimes I see that trackpad lose connection at all.
System was upgrade into Mavericks from ML - previously I had SL. I have no idea how this issue can be fixed. Perhaps I can reinstall entire system from clear installation, but I won’t do this.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Marek

  • My Magic Trackpad won't do all the Lion gestures.

I can do Swipe between pages and Show Desktop and Launchpad, but not Mission Control or App Expose.  All gestures work on the MB Air 13, but not on the Magic Trackpad.  Any ideas?

I have a similar problem. The zooming  in/out does not work, or is very slow on my iMac 2010.
In preferences all is checked. The swiping of pages is not working.
And comparing with my iPad, the gestures on on my magic trackpad are very poor indeed!
    Not what I expected.

btw: the spelling corrector in this reply is not working, so excuse my spelling and grammar.
Could this be caused by Lion?

  • Magic trackpad, Intuos4, Better touch tools and Photoshop issues

I am using a new magic trackpad with an Intuos4 (most recent update) with Photoshop CS2. I used BTT (better touch tools) to designate upper left click for brush, and lower right click for eraser. Works great (little lag from trackpad) on my 2006 macbook.
But after several swithces between brush and eraser, my Intuos4 pen stops drawing or erasing. The cursor still moves around, but I can't draw or erase. Is thre something I can do about this?
I love using the trackpad with my left hand because I don't have to look down from the screen, and can keep my right hand drawing. Really effecient when it works. I checked the wacom forum and they said try moving the two pads farther apart.
Any insight? I plan on updating computer and software. Maybe this is not a problem with a new iMac and Lion?
    Thanks!!!
    Michael

Is there any way to uninstall this update??
    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
The brute-force approach would be to reinstall the last version of Mac OS X.
Another approach, although not necessarily for the faint at heart, is to look in /Library/Receipts/boms ("bill of materials", presumably) for a file named after the update, then look in it for the list of files updated as part of the update. I don't know if there's a user-oriented application that knows how to look into a "bom" file, but I was able to see that information with a "strings" command in a Terminal session.
One last approach might be to look in /System/Library/Extensions for a "kext" file with a name and/or date that suggests that it was updated as part of the trackpad update.
Once new and/or updated files have been identified, you could move them out of the directory where they are found. If a file has been updated, it might be important to replace it with the older version of the file, otherwise something important could be disabled.

  • What gestures are available on Magic Trackpad with bootcamp

I bought the new Magic Trackpad, installed the Bootcamp drivers and found that only limited actions are possible, in fact the actions available are the same those on the trackpad pad on my laptop. Are the additional functions only available when in OSX?

    Hi,
have a look at this Apple article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4273 on what gestures are avaiable for the various WIndows versions.
