My mbp came with Snow Leopard, I upgraded to Lion, but its not in my purchases now.

I have an early 2011 MBP, it came with Snow Leopard preinstalled. I later upgraded to Lion when it was released. I did a clean wipe on the hard drive and a fresh reinstall of Snow Leopard with the intention of re loading Lion also. It's not showing in my purchases now though, its as if I never bought it. I also upgraded my iMac when Lion came out and am running Lion on it also, but it's not even showing up in purchases on it either. I am logged in to my iTunes account on both.
I figured it out. I went into my account information and under purchases it said I had 1 hidden purchase. Lion was the hidden purchase. No idea why it was like that. It's downloading now though.

Contact the Mac App Store support to get Lion if you need it for compatibility purposes.

i have tried to update the iPhoto in an iMac from 2010 ( in which i have updated the OS from SnowLeopard to Mountain Lion 10.8.3) but it doesnt work, why? Is my iPhoto too old to update  do i have to buy and install  a new version of i Photo ?

You may need to buy the newest version from the App Store. If you cannot update via the App Store then you are using the version from a DVD. Updates for that can be downloaded from support.apple.com/downloads/.

At this point, you can no longer download Lion (10.7) from the App Store, only Mountain Lion (10.8) - make sure all your applications are fully compatible if you decide to upgrade.
Yes, you can restore 10.6 using your restore disc should you wish to - and the App Store (not ITunes) will have a record of all your purchases, since it's linked to your AppleId.

  • Mac Pro crashing with BootCamp 3.0 drivers that came with snow leopard

I have a 2008 (early) 2.8ghz Mac Pro. Additions are 2 500gb HD for 1tb software RAID 0, and stock 320gb HD. Running boot camp with windows vista on the stock 320gb HD. No probs with bootcamp 2.1 but when upgraded to bootcamp 3.0 drivers that came with snow leopard. Computer crashes and does not boot past the windows symbol just before login prompt. Also does a crash dump and restarts.
Reformatting drive and reinstalling Vista with 2.1 drivers have no problems.
    Please help!

Apple technote on renaming AppleHFS.sys - the read feature for HFS volumes.
The faulty HFS driver is a valid concern.
It seems to happen on many systems.
    You find it in Windows/system32/drivers/AppleHFS.sys
Renaming to AppleHFS_disabled.sys will avoid the blue screens until you have found another solution or Apple updates Bootcamp 3.0.
If the system crashes before you can edit the name you can do it in OS X as well if you install NTFS drivers. Paragon has a test driver that will do temporarily.
(can't find the technote - searching Apple support kb has only gotten harder in the last couple years, and typing "Apple HFS Windows" in Google is something best I can do)

  • Can i install mavericks on 2009 aluminium macbook 13 inch which came with snow leopard? or will that completely slow down my system

I have a 13 inch late 2009 macbook that came with snow leopard. At present I'm using mountain lion, will it be advisable to upgrade to Mavericks or my system cannot handle that and may completely shut down….since my model is out of make now I'm scared of taking chances. 4gb memory and 2.26GHz processor. Please suggest.

First make a clone backup of  your Mountain Lion drive. If you upgrade and find you are not happy with performance, you can easily use the clone to revert.
Both of these applications can be used to create a clone. You will need an external drive for the backup.

  • My mac originally snow leopard I upgraded to lion and want to sell it with Lion

My mac originally snow leopard I upgraded to Lion and want to sell it with Lion ,can I do this?

In order to install Mac OS X 10.7 you will need:
Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of RAM
Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later with the Mac App Store installed
At least 4GB of additional disk space to accommodate the download, but more is obviously recommended.

  • Updated from Leopard to Snow Leopard, then upgraded to Lion, now my system is freezing on startup. Can anyone help?

Updated from Leopard to Snow Leopard, then upgraded to Lion, now my system is freezing on startup. Can anyone help?

Try a Safe Boot: Restart holding down the shift key until you (hopefully) see a grey progress bar. Once booted restart as normal from the Apple menu. Any change?
How much RAM do you have installed?

  • Is it possible to order an iMac specifically with Snow Leopard, in preference to Lion, say, by the end of this year (as a Christmas gift)?

I want to buy an iMac as a Christmas gift this year and wondered if it may be possible to specifically order one with Snow Leopard? By then I imagine all machines available for sale are likely to have Lion pre-loaded, hence my question.
If I could buy one now, I would, as there are many around still with Snow Leopard - but sadly I can't manage it just at the moment.
    Thanks

Thanks folks, I realise this is just a user forum of course, I was just wondering if anyone had previous experience with buying a Mac with an older system on it at a time of changeover like this. A friend has just bought a new one from an Apple store this week with Snow Leopard on it - not surprising given the newness of Lion, but I was curious to know if anyone had experience with being given a choice during a system upgrade.
And who knows...maybe Apple do look in at the forums to see what people are asking????
    Thanks

  • Imac not booting, Able to get to disk ulility with snow leopard disk.  Tap on had disk, not given choice to do anything.  Information list that smart is certified and partition map is us formatted.  How do I get mac to start up again?

Imac not starting up, keep getting white screen.  Using snow leopard.  Able to get to disk utilities with snow leopard installation disk.  Tap on had disk, not given choice to certified disk or anything else.  Information on disk states that smart status is certified.  Partition map I formatted.  Also tried to restore from back up, but get error:  not enough disk space.  Tried to erase disk, but unable.  What do I do next to get mac to start up?

Thank you. That's what I thought will need to happen.
One more question. I tried using the Apple install disk that came with the computer. It's an OS 10.5.6 disk. It does not see my 10.6.8 system internal hard drive to repair. All it see's is itself 10.5.6 disk. Do you think I can use a 10.8+ disk utillity since that is a higher system it will see the 10.6.8. Where the 10.5.6 does not?
I don't want to turn the computer off for fear I'll get the question mark again. P-Ram got me going last time but for how long I don't know?  It would be nice to be able to turn the computer off for the night and startup as usual to give it a rest and try to reset itself.
Thanks for your help, I know I will eventually need to re-install. But I am in the middle of a project with tight deadlines and all I can do right now is back-up. Trying to migrate to another computer temporarily to finish the job. That's a lot of extra work in the short time also.
Just trying to put a band-aid on it for another couple weeks.

  • Can I revert back to Snow Leopard after upgrading to Lion?

I would like to install Lion over my current Snow Leopard 10.6.8 installation but I have some concerns that I may not like it.  If for some reason, I want to revert back to SL, can I use a Time Machine backup to return to my former OS?

Yes.  Just boot up from your Snow Leopard DVD, and restore the last Time Machine backup that was made before you installed Lion.

  • I have a late-2008 macbook that is running 10.5.8. I also have a newer macbook that came with snow leopard. Can I use the install disk that came with the newer macbook to update my older macbook?

Also, when upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard, will I lose all the data that is currently on my hard drive?

No, that SL disk is meant for the computer it came with only.
Upgrading to SL generally will not cause data loss, but you should have a backup of your important files in any case.
You can get a Snow Leopard disk by calling Apple - in the USA it's 800-MY-APPLE.
    Best of luck.

  • Apple OS 10.5.8 on new macs that came with Snow Leopard!

I want all who read this to know that I am and have been using OS 10.5.8 on my Imac 21.5" core 2 duo that came with 10.6 Snow Leopard. Everyone at Apple said it could not work but that is wrong. I am running OS 10.5.8 in a Bootcamp partitian with great success. I do have the original OS 10.64 as the main OS but usually run os the Boocamp partitian so I can run Logic Studio 8. This OS will not recognize the internal Airport and lacks some features that I did not have before anyway. I connect DSL through Ethernet hardwire, which is faster anyway.

I will probably try installing it on a back-up drive firts. That is one of the recommended steps to get freehand to work with snow anyways. The goods news is we have Macbook pro we purchased in march and a imac G5 that I sent the logic board out to get repaired. I really need to get the G5 running because that is where a lot of the data is we need. Mailboxes, address books etc.
Have you tried using the G5 as a target disk via firewire?
Why do upgrades always have to be so painful and exciting at the same time.
I dunno, it is part of the fun though. It is especially painful right now where the OS is evolving and older software and peripherals are being transitioned out.

  • My iMac came with Snow Leopard installed

I upgraded to OSX 10.8.2 but do not like it, how can I go back to my original Snow Leopard that came with my iMac?

Back up your existing system if you want to preserve it.
Boot from your Mac's original System Install DVD.
At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, choose Disk Utility and erase the disk.
    Quit Disk Utility.
Install Snow Leopard and reconfigure your Mac.

  • I can not get Time Machine to back up an external WD Passport 2 TB drive!  Has anyone else had this problem?  The drive is new and I was running Snow Leopard and upgraded to Lion and it still won't do it.  Time Machine backs up the internal drive fine.

I bought 2 2TB WD Passport Drives with the intention of housing my iTunes/iPhoto libraries off my older MacBook.  I have successfully transferred the Libraries to one and am using the other one for Time Machine.  In Snow Leopard I could back up my computer to Time Machine no problem but when I did not exclude the iTunes/iPhoto drive the back up fails.  Both drives have been reformatted, permissions repaired and checked in Disk Utility and one was replaced.  I have been to the Genius Bar now 5 times.  I have tried using USB drive and FireWire.  Both drives are recognized and are working properly otherwise regardless how they are connected.  Finally yesterday the Apple store installed Lion to see if that fixed the issue and it did not.  Time Machine successfully backed up a USB Flash drive, and today I will try an older external drive.  Any ideas on what else to try??? Do I have to resort to third party software like Carbon Copy Cloned to get this done?  Any ideas why this wont work?  I am using a FireWire converter but as I said, both drives are working normally otherwise (libraries working, time machine working for the computer's hard drive.  Any ideas would be appreciated!!?

Thanks so much but none of that helped.  It was driving me crazy because it would back up another external drive.  I just changed the name of the drive from iPhoto/iTunes Library to Media Libraries and IT WORKED!! I guess for some reason it didn't like the drive being called iPhoto or iTunes ???? I don't understand but I have tried so many solutions and exchanging things out but the name change did it????!!!
Thank you for your help and replying to this.  Guess I made my own issue!

  • Reinstalling Snow Leopard then upgrading to Lion?

    Hello,
Should I do an erase & install with Mac OS X Snow Leopard, updating it again to 10.6.8, then, updating to Mac OS X Lion?

Boot with the SL install disc, launch Disk Utility, erase the disk, reformat it as desired, install the OS, restart, reset all user and network settings, reinstall all 3rd-party apps, launch them and continue to waste time and effort resetting all of their preferences, and when you finally restore to a pristine SL installation, launch the App Store.app, and install Lion. Since this takes a couple of days or so, you might want to reconsider. A clean install is the greatest waste of time and effort ever. We know what you want to do, but not why. If you're trying to resolve an issue or two, work on those and don't waste time starting fresh. That's just a futile exercise.
