My mid 2011 mac book air 13" has no sound! it says that the only output source is headphones! i don't have headphones plugged in
ok, so i came home from the movies last night and went to listen to some music on my macbbok air. i went to youtube and typed in a song and hit play, nothing happened! so i tryed hitting the volume up button but still nothing! so i went to my settings and then clicked on sound. i noticed that the only out put was for "headphones" i didn't haven any headphones plugged in!! so i figured a simple restart would do th trick! but it didt i looked up what to do and i tried everthing i foumd.(toothpic in the headphone jack, air duster in it) neither of those worked! tried to call apple only tp find my apple care expired! please help me i need help bad i dont live near an apple store so i cant brijng it in that easy and i need it for my school work so i cant ship it away please help me! thaks in advance!!!!
didnt work sorry guys! guess someone in my household spilled liquid or dropped my mac. i guess ill bring it to apple and have them tell me wht they did! thry quoted me the flat rate crap at 320 bucks and if it osts them 500 i still only pay the 320 give that a try! hope you guys have better luck than i did!

I am having an issue in making power nap work on Mountain Lion on my mid 2011 Mac Book Air. It is enabled in system preferences but with time machine and sleeping overnight it did not seem to do hourly back up as stated or any other functions of power nap that I know of. it has been enabeled on both battery and plug in dc and I did leave it on plug in overnight.

My Macbook air keeps getting a message saying that the startup disk is full. I don't have picture, music, or movies on it. Im not sure whats wrong with it.
The first step is to check and see how much space really is there. From the desktop right click on the drive in the upper right corner (at least it's there by default) and select "Get Info" to see how much space it reports as free.
It's not just media files that eat up disk space, though they are often a major contributor. Do you happen to be running one of the virtual machine programs (Parallels or VMWare Fusion)? When you create a guest drive there you normally have a fairly decent amount of disk space dedicated to it and that can fill the drive.
As well, a quick fix that may buy you some time is to empty the trash if you've not done so recently. Click on the trash folder in your dock and then in the window that comes up select the option to empty the trash.
If you can free up some space, there are programs that will help you find what files and directories are using disk space. I've used Space Gremlin (in the App store) for that sort of thing, though there others. If you run that sort of utlity you'll get some idea about what is really eating up the drive space. -
Why can't I get Back To My Mac to work in both directions between my 2011 Mac Book Air and my 2012 Mac Mini? The network uses a Time Capsule. Everything works when connecting from the Mini to the Air, but the reverse is not the case, none of the Mini's drives are visible, and the screen sharing option is not available. I've tried the measures already suggested in online articles, everything seems to be configured correctly using my iCloud account. I'm at a loss, any suggestions would be appreciated.
I've now managed to get the service running in both directions, but not in the way I had anticipated. I had to create a second account on the Mac Book Air, this also has administrator privilages, everything works fine when connecting from this acccount. However, this is not the way I would expect to work, none of my documents, applications and settings would be available, unless I laboriously duplicated them to the new account.
Also, I've yet to get the service running from outside my home network. -
I recently purchased a Mac Book Air and wanted to know what would be the best external hard drive to buy as far as the brand and GB or TB are concerned? I will basically just be storing music, papers, and a lot of pictures. Also, how should I go about charging my computer? Should I wait until it is close to dying and then charge it?
I have had good success with HGST and Seagate HDDs. I suggest a HDD that is powered by the MBA eliminating the need for an AC cord. They now come up to 1.5 TB in capacity. In my opinion, one cannot have too much storage. If necessary, let your bank account be your guide.

If the Mac came w/system DVDs, you will need to obtain them prior to selling.
You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.

Lync 2011 Mac Book air Video calling
I cannot seem to get the Lync video calling to work on the Mac Book air, I have tried a few different copmputers but the video button in the client is always greyed out - am I missing something or trying to do something that just doesnt work ?
I tried MAC > PC, MAC > MAC - none of which work, PC > PC is fine.

Mac Book Air has a diffent keyboard layout and some of the shortcuts aren't applicable. Please rectify.

USB Ethernet Adapter for 2011 Mac Book Air with Lion OS 10.5.8
I just bought a new Mac Book Air with the Lion OS. I need a USB ethernet adapter for it. I am unclear if any of the Apple or non Apple products listed on line or EBay will work on this new computer with Lion OS. Please advise on purchasing wither a Apple product or a Ebay non Apple product which ar e half price.
Yep. Any such adaptor should work. All they need do is comply with basic USB 2.0 protocols and they will work on virtually any computer that has a USB 2.0 port.

2 users, (2) iPhones and Mac Book Pro and Mac Book Air and a Windows PC
All computers are set to manually manage music.
I have home sharing set on all 3 computers. When l log into either the Macs or the PC I can drag music I want between either computer with no problems. All computers are authorized. When my wife logs into her account on her Mac Air she cannot move any music from the shared computers. We have separate iTunes accounts. I believe you have a failing GPU (aka Video Card). Run AHT and see what it tells you. Do not be afraid to run it up to three times in succession if at first it does not detect an error (sometimes errors that are caused by overheating will not show up until the computer is stressed enough - repeating AHT will do that).
As an aside - the MBA was not designed to take the place of a desktop. If you are powering your MBA by leaving it permanently attached to the thunderbolt port on the monitor you are shortening your battery life.
