My prints are yellow!

I'm not sure where to post this; seems as good a place as any.
Been on Windows for years (long story.)
My Sony P4 worked fine with my Canon Pixma iP6000d. I bought an iMac 20 Intel, specifically because I wanted to use Aperture. Prints on the Canon printer came out with a distinct yellow bias--yellow sky, etc. AppleCare thought it was the printer. I bought an HP Photosmart D7160 printer. It prints just as yellow. Normal prints with the Sony.
Either printer prints normally directly from Compact Flash--the same photograph. All software is up to date. I have re-installed OS X twice, first the way it kept my files and settings, the second time so that it wiped out everything and I had to start over. I re-installed Aperture, Adobe CS2 for Mac, etc, all under the direction of AppleCare, and updated them all. No change; it still prints yellow. Yes, I know about the sliders in the printer setup. Seven sliders, one hundred possible settings on each, for seven to the one hundredth power possible settings, I think. I have tried several hundred settings without finding a satisfactory combination to get a decent print. Cyan has to be set to plus 30 or 40 to get anywhere near the ballpark, for a start. And I have tried printing from Preview, Aperture, and Adobe CS2.
Local Apple Geniuses say this problem is well beyond their expertise. AppleCare says the local store will take it from here.
I'm trying to set up a test to use my files and printer on a store iMac 20, but so far they haven't been able to. They think I am going to just get a refund and go back to Windoze.

no matter what app i print from there is a yellow
cast. i didn't have any problems with my powerbook,
to be honest its really really getting on my nerves!
i bought the printer to be able to do decent photo
prints as i'm a freelance photographer and its
practically useless. even black and white prints are
yellowish!
Well, welcome to the club! I've used Photoshop for Windows--whatever the current version was--for years. The routine was to open the raw files, accept the automatic adjustments, save, and print. Since Mac is famed as a photographer's computer, I expected something similar. And Aperture sounded like a dream, since I do shoot digital photos in quantity.
And all my prints had a yellow cast. I tried three different printers, two HPs and one Canon. Yellow cast. I took my stuff into the local Apple store; they suggested I contact AppleCare. I did. I followed all their suggestions. I formatted and reinstalled OS X several times. I updated every program each time. Still yellow prints. I printed about four hundred prints trying various ideas. Still yellow prints. AppleCare gave up; said the problem would have to be solved locally. Local was convinced it was a software problem. They finally became convinced that I was doing something wrong in Aperture, and scheduled me for an hour one-on-one with their Aperture Genius. I had a hard time believing Aperture was the problem, as other programs printed yellow prints when Aperture had not been installed. Whatever. I had had the computer for three months and had not produced one acceptable photo so I was willing to try anything. They wanted to teach on their laptop; I insisted on using my Mac and printer, which we did. The Aperture Genius proceeded to produce a series of awful yellow prints, just like mine. At the end of the allotted hour, she gave up and summoned another Genius. This lady explained that the Mac can produce good prints, but you have to work for them. Turn off on-screen proofing, it will only confuse you. Edit each photo so that it is brilliant, "jumps off the page at you." Nothing like the scene you photographed, nothing like the print that is produced if you put the memory chip directly into the printer.
Then go into the print menu, to the color sliders, and experiment with various settings till you find one that makes your prints look better, and save it. This must be done for each type of photo you take. For landscapes, plus ten in yellow and magenta took away the awful yellow for my setup.
For flesh tones, plus six in yellow and plus five in magenta makes them look almost human.
She said that she had about twenty custom profiles in her Ma.
This is a far cry from what I expected from Mac. I cannot believe that every photographer has to go through this with each print, and that the prints for all of them look so much different from what is shown on the monitor. And, yes, mine is calibrated routinely with a SpyderPro 2.
Welcome to the wonderful world of photoprinting, Mac style.
There is nothing wrong with your printer, whatever it is.

  • Lightroom output prints are too light

I have to make 30-40 prints for a project and decided to try the Lightroom print module. The prints will be output from existing layered psd master files, most of which are in either a ProPhoto or Colormatch color space.
I imported a folder of master files into LR and opened one up in the print module. On the up side: I love the LR interface, the ease of going through the check list (seems easier and less confusing than the print box in photoshop), the ease of adding custom text (very handy for captions!), and I ESPECIALLY love checking the box to center the print and actually having it centered properly in the output print (unlike needing to monkey with the "left=" numbers or visually play with the location of the image on the page in the CS2 or CS3 print box). Its been a big pain for the last few years in CS2 to never quite have the darn thing centered when printing on my Epson 2200. I was thrilled that in LR the centering actually worked!
On the down side to printing in LR (and this is a BIG down): the prints are a good full stop lighter than the ones I print from CS2 or CS3. When printing from CS2 or CS3, with a profiled monitor and use of the proper printing profile, I get pretty close to WYSIWYG most of the time. I'm getting WYSIWYG in Lightroom (the output print DOES look like the monitor), but what I see in the print module window is a good full stop lighter than what my imported master files look like when opened and printed from photoshop. And the LR print comes out correspondingly lighter.
For final output printing of art or presentation prints, I generally will want to use a layered, polished, file that I have tinkered with in photoshop. LR still does not have enough features to do everything I need to create that kind of final print or delivery file.
So my question: why the mismatch between the appearance of a master file in CS2/CS3 and LR? Is there any way to correct this? I would love to use LR to output my prints, but as it is its not a good idea.
One last thing: I have been a big fan of PhotoKit Sharpener both for capture sharpening and for output sharpening. Is there a way to use it in a LR workflow? I'm particularly interested in using the output sharpener for prints, which is wonderful and has always done a great job.
Thanks for any feedback or insight.
Info background: I am using a dual 2GHz G5 PowerPC with 3.5 GB ram, running OS 10.4.10, using LR 1.1, as well as photoshop CS2 and CS3, printing with an Epson 2200.

    Jeff et al:
I did as you advised, and imported another folder of layered master files into LR. The first folder that I imported I had used the "none" development preset. On the second imported folder I used the "Zeroed" preset as per your suggestion.
The first ones were too light, but the second ones were a significantly better match. I have to say the image as viewed in the LR window is very close, although still not identical, to the image as viewed in Photoshop. For some reason the LR has a slightly more yellow cast, while the original in Photoshop is a bit more magenta. I made two prints from the same image, one via LR and the other via Photoshop, and you can see the same respective yellow or magenta cast in the prints. The LR print is also slightly muddier (but only marginally).
I read on another thread started by John Vitollo called "Anyway to turn off 'Apply Auto Tone Adjustments' with Tiffs + PSDs?" that John was also having problems with PSDs appearing too light in LR. Lee Jay told him to turn off the "Apply Auto Tone Adjustments" in the Edit > Preferences > Presets (top box). I found that this option was enabled for all of the instances above, so my guess is that "Apply Auto Tone Adjustments" overrides "none" in the development module pull down menu during import... Don't know if this is something that needs to be fixed...?
In any case, given that I have successfully printed 10 images in Photoshop, for this particular project I will probably continue printing in PS so as to be able to match the tone and formatting. For future I will try to figure out printing in LR, but as of now I can't see any particular advantage to printing in the LR print module (except for the nice centering feature). When I imported and copied my layered master files into LR, it took a verrrrrry long time, and wasn't worth the time investment. Also am not sure what's causing this slight color shift, and don't want to invest in making a lot of prints till I can sort that out.
Any additional suggestions or comments are welcome.
    Many thanks,

  • Envelopes printing in yellow

Photosmart C6350. I use a Mac. Suddenly my envelope addresses are printing in yellow. When I print it out on just a piece of paper, it comes out in black. Put in an envelope and it again comes out yellow. I've tried to figure how to get back to black but can't come up with it. HELP!

I have a similar problem. Whenever I print from the photo tray, it will only print in green. Started when I got a new computer with Windows 7. Have determined it is a printer problem, not a communication problem from Word because Wordpad does the same thing.

  • Officejet Pro 8500A is not printing with Yellow cartridge. Full cartridge and good health ...

I have an OfficeJet Pro 8500 which is not printing with the Yellow cartridge.  Printing with the Cyan, Magenta, and Black cartridges is fine.  Diagnostics show all cartridges properly installed and having adequate ink supplies.I replaced the Yellow cartridge with a brand new XL cart, but to no avail.  I cleaned the orifice with Isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab, thinking perhaps there was some dried ink or an impurity there.  The problem still exists. There are no error messages, either via software or at the printer itself.  The printer is out of warranty (imagine that!).I have used HP products for well over 15 years, partly because HP support has been historically excellent.  After reading some of the posts on these forums, it seems that HP has allowed their support quality to diminish - significantly.  I hope that is not the case in real life.Any ideas out there?

I am having same problem. OfficeJet Pro 8500A Premium.  Not printing with Yellow. First replaced Yellow cartridge with new, then spoke with HP Support yesterday and was told that the Black and Yellow Printhead must need to be replaced, at a cost of $49.  New Printhead arrived today, inserted and still having same issue with YELLOW! So, for the cost of a new Multi-Pack of print cartridges (which had the Yellow I used to replace the low ink), and the new Printhead, I could have purchased a NEW CANNON PRINTER.  I have used HP Products for over 20 years - both professionally (HP Plotters) and at home (always HP Printers, Scanners, Multi-devices, etc.  I am VERY frustrated!

  • How to set a print area in Numbers

This one should be easy: set print range for the cells that require to be printed. There does not to be a way to do it, or is it so obvious that I missed it?

Okay, I've been following this conversation, can't keep my mouth shut.
For what it's worth, I spend about 90% of my work day in excel and while I'm no power user by any means, I'm reasonably competent in it. I think in spreadsheets. It's a curse. I've used every spreadsheet there is that will run on a Mac, and none has even come close to excel's usefulness. Yes, that includes all the third-party attempts that claim to be business-ready. They're just not, and neither is Numbers.
Crazierthanu, I think excel can at least manage all of the issues you listed. For global settings you can select all the tabs you want to change and any change you make on one will be made on all of the selected tabs. So if you set Portrait and Fit to Page in page setup, all the tabs will print in Portrait and the data fitted to a single sheet. The downside to this is when there are different "sizes" of data on the various tabs; that can result in varying font sizes, another problem. Again in excel (I choose not to capitalize microsoft product names, call it a personal quirk born of extreme disgust with the company), in print view one can, with a few keyboard shortcuts, select the area to be printed and set print area from the context menu. It's very straightforward. And you can select any part of the data to print, eschewing all else. This is how you'd print non-rectangular areas. You can use this function to print discontinuous areas also, though they'll print on separate pages. To print multiple tabs at one time, select each tab you wish to print while holding down Ctnl or Shift.
Anyway. I sure don't want to sound like an excel supporter because I've put myself through a lot of suffering to avoid having to buy it. And I still haven't. I'll go a long way to keep M$ from getting any of my money. But excel is a good spreadsheet, the best there is so far. Printing should be simple. Maybe M$ patented excel's printing paradigm and no one else can use any of it. That would be par.
Many of these items are possible in Numbers. What's so frustrating is the screwy slider that makes you print the whole sheet and everything on it. I don't want to print everything on a sheet, and I want to easily select paper orientation (I think someone mentioned how to do that and I'd bet it would work globally by selecting multiple sheets in the left column).
I too think Nick hit it on the head when he said that you have to compromise sheet layout to fit within Numbers' print paradigm. That's just ridiculous. The application needs to bend to my will just a bit more than that.
Because I've invested a great deal of hope and what to me is not an insignificant amount of money, I'll learn to use Numbers. But Apple sure missed the boat with this one if they hoped to get excel users to switch. Unless they have a serious personal vendetta against microsoft, pretty much any spreadsheet user in the world will scoff at this first generation attempt and continue using excel. You can sure make "pretty" spreadsheets with Numbers, but it's awful hard to get any work out of it.
I've printed the Numbers manual and maybe I'll learn what I need to know from reading it. Heaven knows I've read enough excel books! Maybe that's what the first version of Numbers needs - someone to figure out how to use it and write a book for the rest of us. Hey, maybe that can be my retirement fund!

  • Mac OS X 10.7 drivers for HP LaserJet 1300: installation at the "Add Printer" process ended, every time, with message "Currently drivers for this printer are UNavailable..."!   PLEASE HELP?

APPLE [see Apple Support's Article HT 3669] says Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) has drivers for this Printer.
But, every time I've tried installing it to my Mac Book Pro (which came with OS X 10.7), it does recognize that the Printer (connected via USB cable) is HP LaserJet 1300 -- in fact, right below, this statement appears: "The drivers for this Printer are available...".  But, when it comes to the actual process of downloading, the "Add Printer" window -- after 20+ minutes of its "searching" for the drivers -- always ends with the message: "Currently drivers for this printer are UNavailable... contact the manufacturer."!!!  (Can you imagine? Apple says it's available... but its own "Add Printer" process says it's UNavailable!)
I went to HP's support site, and it, too, says that drivers for this Printer are available!  -- see the 2 links:

  • Information of Print Area is missing in VB6 Addin of version Excel 2007 and Excel 2010

    Hallo,
I have a problem with my old VB 6 COM Addin. My document has Print Area, but when I use my addin to open this document. The information of print area is lost.
This problem takes place only in the following situations.
If the PrintArea is set in Excel 2007 and 2010, it will be missing. But in Excel 2003 without problem.
From the code, the  ".ActiveSheet.PageSetup.printArea" is always empty, although when the print area is configurate in Excel 2007 and 2010
What is the possible reason of this problem?
    Thanks very much.

There are several things I don't follow in the details you gave
"I click an excel document in the third-part program and Excel 2007 will be open automatically"
    - Describe the 3rd party program you open the workbook in if not Excel"
    - What do you mean by "click and Excel document", what do you click and where is the document
    - Why click on an Excel document (workbook, worksheet something else?) to get a 3rd party app to automate Excel, then does some other workbook load?
    It's very confusing!
Did you try the code in VBA in the instance of the workbook whose sheet you want to return the Print Area
Re: Excel Object Library is 9.0
Did you set a reference to XL-9 in the test app with my code then transfer to a different system with 2007?
However, a ref to xl-9 shouldn't be a problem if the code compiled with that ref. If the app/dll is transferred to a different system it will pick up the Excel GUID in that system, which is exactly the same for all versions since Excel97. The only time it
would be an issue is if code compiled with a new object model is not supported when used with an older Excel object model.
The fact my code appears to work without error returning the message "Print Area not defined" suggests it is referring to a different workbook, ie one in which the Print-Area has not been defined. Double check which workbook it is referring to,
    eg
    Private Sub cbPrintArea_Click(ByVal Ctrl As Office.CommandBarButton, _
    CancelDefault As Boolean)
    Dim ws As Excel.Worksheet
Dim s As String, s2 As String
    On Error Resume Next
    s = xlApp.Caption
    If Err.Number Then
    MsgBox "xlApp error " & vbCr & Err.Description
    Exit Sub
    End If
    Set ws = xlApp.ActiveSheet
    s2 = ws.Parent.Name & vbCr & _
    ws.Name & vbCr & _
    ws.Range("A1").Value & vbCr
    If Err.Number > 0 Then
    MsgBox "failed to reference ActiveSheet"
    Else
    s = ws.PageSetup.PrintArea
    If Err.Number Then
    MsgBox Err.Description
    Else
    If Len(s) = 0 Then s = "Print Area not defined"
    MsgBox s2 & vbCr & s
    End If
    End If
    End Sub
This should confirm the workbook name, activesheet name and value in A1 (before running maybe add the current time in A1 with ctrl-shift-;  in the same workbook as the print-area has been defined)

In general theory, one now has the Edit button for their posts, until someone/anyone Replies to it. I've had Edit available for weeks, as opposed to the old forum's ~ 30 mins.
That, however, is in theory. I've posted, and immediately seen something that needed editing, only to find NO Replies, yet the Edit button is no longer available, only seconds later. Still, in that same thread, I'd have the Edit button from older posts, to which there had also been no Replies even after several days/weeks. Found one that had to be over a month old, and Edit was still there.
Do not know the why/how of this behavior. At first, I thought that maybe there WAS a Reply, that "ate" my Edit button, but had not Refreshed on my screen. Refresh still showed no Replies, just no Edit either. In those cases, I just Reply and mention the [Edit].
Also, it seems that the buttons get very scrambled at times, and Refresh does not always clear that up. I end up clicking where I "think" the right button should be and hope for the best. Seems that when the buttons do bunch up they can appear at random around the page, often three atop one another, and maybe one way the heck out in left-field.
While I'm on a role, it would be nice to be able to switch between Flattened and Threaded Views on the fly. Each has a use, and having to go to Options and then come back down to the thread is a very slow process. Jive is probably incapable of this, but I can dream.

  • Printing.  My prints are not printing at the proper size.  If I designate 5x7 it prints at something around 4x3.  I have set all the parameters.

When you saye a you have set all the parameters, does that include the cell size in the print module? Are you printing on 5 x 7 paper? And, if you are, have you set that paper size in the page setup?

  • Prints are too dark with CS4

    Hi
I appreciate that this topic has been covered before but I cannot seem to find a resolution.
My prints are too dark when I print from CS4 with my Epson Stylus Photo 2100 printer(2200 in the USA).
I am using Windows Vista 32bit service pack 2.
My monitor has been calibrated correctly (brightness lever is 117cd/m2)
I am using genuine Epson Inks and paper (Epson premium semi gloss photo paper)
I have the latest drivers installed.
My workflow is Adobe RGB (1998)
I have turned off color management in the printer and selected the correct paper type etc.
In Photoshop I have selected Photoshop to color manage my prints and selected the correct
    Epson profile for my paper/ink.
Black point compensation is on, and the rendering intent is relative colorimetric.
I am sure that somehow my prints are being double profiled but I do
not know how to prevent it.
Has any one found a working solution to this problem/
    Any help greatly appreciated.

Here is a suggestion. When you do go to the apple store. Upon receiving a replacement phone, don't just leave the store. Ask them that you want to check the phone before you leave to make sure you want a good working phone before leaving.
That is what I did when I got my replacment. In front of the Genius, I asked him that I'm going to check the phone carefully before heading out to ensure that all is working properly that I get no yellow tint, and that if one thing fails that I have the right to get it exhanged again on the spot. The genius that I talked to was really nice so he agreed that he would let me inspect the phone.
Keep in mind that all replacement phone comes in plain black box.
