My shuffle won't charge
I just purchased a 2nd gen shuffle, and it wont charge. I plug it in, the orange light flashes a bit, and then the green light comes on and stays on. No matter how long I leave it in for, once I disconnect it and turn it on the light goes red, plays for about ten minutes, and dies. Anyone know what is causing this?
You can try the Restore button in iTunes, or the iPod Reset Utility
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1238
for a lower level reset. But that sounds like a defective iPod shuffle (bad battery). Since it's new, you should get it replaced.

my shuffle won't charge. Will the reset correct this, or is it dead?
Hello loisflmom,
I love my iPod shuffle, and I would be concerned too if it wasn't charging. I found an article that addresses issues with charging the iPod shuffle more specifically. I recommend following the steps under the section titled, "iPod shuffle doesn't respond or won't turn on" in the following article:

my ipod shuffle won't charge after not being charged for a month... did the battery officially die?
maybe you can control the room temperature.... i try to charge iPod shuffle beside the mini fan, so heat from shuffle can blown away... or maybe, you can charge the iPod in Air Conditioned room....
i think this device have a mechanism to cut off the charging process if device temperature too hot. such a safety system so this ipod won't burn out when overcharging.
i hope it can help you...
and trust me IT WORKS.... -
Brand new IPOD Shuffle won't charge battery!
What am I doing wrong???
I did download and install ITUNES, and added a bunch of songs that show in ITUNES,(that I put on the IPOD) and when I dock it, it blinks yellow, then goes to solid green. After I eject it, I try to turn it on, but, I get no light, and it won't play.
Any ideas?I am having a similar problem with my iPod shuffle 2G. I read that the shuffle would not charge properly unless it was plugged into a high speed USB port (which I later discovered my computer does not have). I bought an A/C adapter in order to charge it from the wall (not from Apple). I charged it overnight until the light turned green. I disconnected the iPod and turned it on; the light stayed green for two seconds, then went off, and the iPod does not play.
I contacted Apple Support, and the only suggestion they could offer was that the A/C adapter I bought is not the correct one. I am now waiting for a second wall charger to arrive, to see if that in fact is the case. The iPod did in fact sync and load songs with no problem despite not having a high speed USB port. Anybody else experience this? -
So I haven't used my Shuffle in months and I don't remember how much battery was left when I stopped using it. When I connect my ipod to my laptop, a red light glows and my computer, nor my laptop will recogonize the ipod. It won't charge either. I've left it connected to an outlet and my laptop for hours but the red light won't go away. Help, please!
If you connected it to both your computer's USB port and a USB power adapter on a wall outlet, I think you've ruled out a problem with the power source. Since you at least get the red light, the USB docking cable is probably OK.
So, if it's not the USB port or the docking cable, the cause is likely to be on the shuffle. It may be the battery or a problem on the logic board. If it was just the battery, I think it would still appear in iTunes on the computer (or at least be recognized by the system).
(If this shuffle is less than one year from purchase date, it is under warranty.) -
I bought a shuffle for my wife's car which has a USB connection. It won't charge from it and it also has an extremely low volume which can't be adjusted because the volume adjustment is built into the earphone cord. Is there any solution to this before I get rid of this shuffle? My nano works in there perfectly.
Copied from my previous post in this thread.
I know if the iPhone's internal temperature if over a designated temp, you can't charge the battery until the internal temp has been reduced. This is protection for the battery and internal components since charging increases the internal temp.
When this occurs, the charging indicator will switch to showing as being fully charged.
Are you using a case?
Charging increases the internal temp of the iPhone, and using GPS will also increase the internal temp of the iPhone. Combined must have increased the internal temp of your iPhone past the designated temp when charging stops. Using a case can prevent heat from being dissipated properly. -
Shuffle won't charge or show up in i
My 4th generation shuffle will not charge, there's no light indicator and it won't show up on Itunes....(I have a PC). It was working fine and is now useless. Is this fixable?
My old generation Ipod after two and 1/2 years went belly up. Never had any prior problems. Gloria still has her old Ipod working just fine after two plus years. I purchased my first new generation shuffle July 21st. After two weeks it started to static then went dead. PC then wouldn't recognize it. Apple support then sent a replacement late July. Aug 20th, it did same as first Ipod. Again contacted Apple and went through the process of replacement. In the mean time I got antsy, went down to same store and bought another new I pod. The first time using it, (true story, I swear) It quit working and is not recognized by PC or ITunes. Beginning process to have replacement sent. The good news is the second replacement is still working after one week.
What I believe is happening is they have made these new generation Ipods 3/8" shorter, so when replaying a song, I sometimes accidently hit the pause button simultaneously, or vice versa. -
Shuffle won't charge...nada...nothing
Hello,
My son has a Shuffle. He manages it with an older iMac Graphite updated with OSX. Since it won't charge on the iMac's USB ports, we charge it with my Windows laptop. All of sudden, it won't charge on the laptop. I've tried to restore it to factory settings on the iMac, but no luck...it doesn't even see the iPod is connected to the iMac. I think the battery might be too dead but maybe I'm wrong? How do I get it to charge on the laptop again? It's like it's not even connected and the computer doesn't "see" it at all. I have two laptops, and it does the same on both.
TIA,
ChristyHi,
I bought an iPod USB Power Adapter today, and plugged in the Shuffle. No light is coming on to indicate that it is charging at all. Does this mean the battery is shot? I did purchase an extended warranty on it from Best Buy and I'm thinking it may be time to take it back.

My 2nd generation iPod Shuffle won't charge or sync in iTunes.
As the title says, my second generation iPod shuffle will not charge when connected to itunes. I ventured to the apple store to seek another connection cable after my first one was lost, but alas, this has no effect. When plugged in, my shuffle stays dormant; it is not regognized in iTunes, and the LED light stays gray. Any Help to this Problem?

My brother gave me an iPod shuffle that he had been using for several months. I tried plugging it into my laptop (the second computer it had been plugged into) and the orange light blinked three times then did nothing. I took it off, the green light blinked once, I put it back on and the orange light blinked again three times. I found out that this means it's not charging (when the light isn't on.) So I plugged it into my wall charger - same thing happened, orange blinked three times then nothing.
I tried plugging it into my brothers computer (the one that it normally works with) and the same thing with the orange light happened.
Any ideas? It just worked a few weeks ago..Can you connect it to your computer and restore it?

TS1412 ipod shuffle won't charge
Does the ipod shuffle (2nd gen) have to charge on a dock? Original one is broken. I am using another charger but it isn't working?
Thanks.Make sure you are using the USB docking cable that came with the shuffle (with the mini-dock at the shuffle end). A cable that is for the 3rd or 4th gen shuffle does not work with a 2nd gen shuffle.
Otherwise, there are several possibilities.
If you are using a USB hub for the connection, try a direct USB port on the computer. If it does not work there, try connecting something similar to the same USB port, such as a another iPod if you have one or a USB flash drive, to make sure the port is working properly. You may want to shut down (power off) the computer, then start it up, run iTunes, and try again.
Your USB docking cable may have become faulty. The only way you can test this possibility is to try another cable, or try a different working 2nd gen shuffle with the cable you have.
The connection point on the shuffle may be faulty or worn out. Or it may be something internal, such as the battery or logic board. -
Shuffle won't charge - on my computer only
I have a new (2nd gen) shuffle, and am having problems charging it. When I plug it into my computer (About 2 years old - I don't have USB 2.0 - Asus Pundit II, running Windows 2000) itunes recognizes the ipod. The light flashes orange for as long as it takes for itunes to "update the Ipod", which is essentially accessing it and recognizing what's on it. After this, there is no light. It does not charge. I have ran my ipod battery all the way down, and it will still do this on my computer, even though the battery holds no charge. I can at any time change the songs - the light flashes orange while it updates. But once that is done, the light stops and there is no further action.
I have been able to charge the ipod on about 5 other computers (at work, and friends) without any problems whatsoever.
I have already done the "5 R's" suggested. I have also tried all 4 USB ports - 2 on the front, 2 on the back.
I do not know if there is a problem with my computer - I have heard that some USB ports are not powered, although this does not make sense if it can still update when I have run down the battery all the way.

Have you tried the following:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304801
iPod: Proper charging procedures for Windows 2000
Please follow these steps to properly charge any iPod on a Windows 2000 system.
1. Connect the iPod to the Windows 2000 computer.
2. Select the iPod in the Source pane in iTunes.
3. Click the Settings tab for the iPod.
4. Click the check box for "Enable Disk Use" (you may need to scroll down to see this setting).
5. Click Apply.
Note: You will need to manually eject the iPod when you're ready to disconnect it. Once "Enable Disk Use" is selected, the setting will stay and you do not have to perform these steps again. If Enable Disk Use is not selected, the iPod will not charge when connected to a computer with Windows 2000. -
Ipod Shuffle won't turn on or charge and isn't recognized by the computer
My Ipod shuffle won't charge and isn't recognized by the computer , it turned orange than stopped and won't charge or turn on since. Does anybody has a solution please ?
I have exactly the same problem with both my ipod shuffles. That suggests to me that it is a problem with the ipods rather than my PC or computer software. I'm surprised that no Apple tech has suggested a solution yet.

HT1655 iPod died, won't charge nor will PPP
My iPod shuffle won't charge, it's not being detected by my computer and the red light is not showing when I charge it and I'm confused how you restart the ipod please help
Fix: disconnect ipod from computer. switch the on/off switch to off and wait TEN seconds. After that, turn it back on and it should come on. It still may need charging. Make sure all cables are properly connected and plug it in to charge. Please reply if it worked. :P
