My tips for taking good photographs .

Taking good Photographs in simple terms
Getting sharp images:
For best results use a sturdy tripod and lock-up your mirror prior to clicking the shutter with a remote release (or use the shutter release timer).
If you need to hand hold, ensure that the shutter speed is fast enough; this will depend on your personal ability to hold the camera steady, the focal length of the lens and whether or not the lens / camera has image stability built in.
Choose an appropriate aperture for the depth of field that you require; a small aperture (high f number) for wide depth of field (typical for landscapes) or a large aperture (small f number) for shallow depth of field (typical for portraiture). To maximise the depth of field achieved for a given aperture when taking landscape photos, focus approximately one third of the way into the scene.
Buy the best quality lenses that you can afford. A consumer camera body with a high quality lens will obtain better quality images than a pro camera body with a consumer spec kit lens; spend wisely!
Composition:
There are various ‘rules’ for helping with composition, the most commonly used being the rule of thirds; divide the scene through your lens into three both vertically and horizontally giving four points of intersection; place the most important element on one of these intersection points.
Remember that rules are there to be broken and achieving good balance in an image can be more important than force fitting some arbitrary rules!
Crop your image to a shape that gives most impact; letter box, square etc.
Light:
Remember it is light that you are recording on the sensor / film and digital cameras and film have a limit to the range from darkest to brightest that they can record; exceed this and you will have either blocked up shadows or burned out highlights.
Landscape photographers use graduated Neutral Density filters to darken the sky so that all tones can be captured.
The light at and around sun rise and sun set is much warmer than at mid day and shadows are much longer resulting in much more pleasing images, particularly for landscape photography. That said, there are times when the soft light pre-dawn, post sunrise, or on an overcast or misty day is the perfect light for the subject. For each subject consider what will work best and the angle that you will make the image; also consider B&W / mono as days with dull colour can make great B&W images.
Post Processing:
There is nothing new about post processing, it is not something that was invented for digital photography; it is much cleaner digitally, and you have the ability to click ‘undo’ but the concept of manipulating imagery goes back a long way with all serious darkroom printers at least doing a little dodging and burning to bring out the best in their prints.
Get as much right in camera and try not to over-do the processing; a good image can be ruined whilst a poor image cannot be turned into a good image!
Improving your skills:
One great way of improving your skills is to join a local camera club where you will learn from the experienced members.
Alternatively (or in addition to joining a camera club), enrol onto a photography course.
Most importantly, get out with your camera and practice!
Examples:
To see examples of putting the above into practice feel free to take a tour of my web site, link below:

For good camera reviews.

All very good points. I would just add that prime lenses will usually produce better quality pictures. A prime lens has a fixed focal length e.g. 35mm, 50mm, 85mm etc. However most of us prefer the flexibility of a zoom lens which can stay on the camera and avoids the need to constantly change lenses for the job in hand, or to carry around a large kit bag. So there is a trade off between best quality and convenience.

  • Tips for taking photos of canines/dogs cats etc anyone?

I have been taking photos of pets and do ok for an amatuer but would appreciate any tips (I know clicker training helps a ton to get expression -- ha ha )

I've found a great time to photograph cats is after they've eaten.  They tend to sit idly, belly full, and often groom themselves.  After grooming, they will often go for a nap.  During that post eating period they're not paying much attention to you or anything else, and it can be a great time to snap some good pictures.

  • Looking for a good note taking app: Are there new features for the Notes app in iOS6?

    Hi,
I've read that the Notes app with Mountain Lion will be available for OS X as well, and I was wondering if there will be any significant updates to the Notes app coming in iOS 6?
The Notes app in Mountain Lion supports, as far as I know, text formatting, images and attachments. The Notes app in iOS 5 does not have any of these features, yet still it is claimed that the OS X client will sync with the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. This means that there must be some rather significant updates coming for the Notes app in iOS 6 to match up with the features of its Mac counterpart. Still, no updates to the Notes app are listed in any of the iOS 6 feature lists I've seen so far.
I'm looking for a good note taking app for OS X and iOS. I don't like how Springpad works, neither did Evernote work out for me, it's just too complex - I like Simplenote a lot though, it's just that its approach is too radical in my opinion. I was thinking that the Mountain Lion Notes app might be a good alternative because it combines simplicity with rich text formatting and attachments. I kind of hate the skeuomorphic user interface though.
    best, Ian

You are only addressing other iPad users here & no Apple employees. We have no way of knowing, so you'll have to wait until iOS 6 is released.

Really sorry to hear about this, particularly when you're putting your life on the line. But Apple cannot track your iPhone in any way unless you had set up Find My iPhone prior to it being lifted.
It's possible that AT&T might be able to do something, but it's probably that they cannot track it, or will not without a request from an authorized law enforcement agency, but rather would only disable the device. You'll have to try and find a way to contact AT&T directly and ask if they can do anything to help you; the chances of any AT&T employee in a position to help you spotting this thread it pretty small.
Good luck, stay safe, and come home soon.
    Regards.

I have a Macbook Pro 15" that is three and a half years old.  Although it has slowed a bit, it still runs well and runs every program I need. Any tips for how to keep this old computer running well and in good health?
I have a 250 gig drive and try to keep at least 100 gigs unused at all times, 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory, back up with Time Machine and CrashPlan, and have OS X 10.7.3.
This was my first Mac since an old Apple II GS.  After that I used PC's and got really good at reformatting, replacing drives, reinstalling, defragging, resolving software conflicts, etc.  Since switching back to Macs (five in my extended family now), I haven't had to do any of those things. So, although, the cost is three times as much, the aggrevation has been ten times less.
I'm retired and living on a fixed income and would therefore like to keep this computer running as opposed to constatntly upgrading.
    That said, any tips?
    Thanks
It does have a crack on the left of the screen case about 3/4'' up from the bottom.  I've posted that as another question.

Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility.  For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. Drive Genius provides additional tools not found in Disk Warrior.  Versions 1.5.1 and later are Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or Lion and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems. For more about malware see Macintosh Virus Guide.
I would also recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX 2.4.3, or Cocktail 5.1.1 that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. There is no confirmation that this version also works with Lion.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    SuperDuper!
    SyncTwoFolders
    Synk Pro
    Synk Standard
    Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.
Additional suggestions will be found in Mac Maintenance Quick Assist.
Referenced software can be found at CNet Downloads or MacUpdate.
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.
Adding more RAM, if feasible, and a new, faster hard drive may also help pep it up a little.

  • Tips for using the Forum - please read

I saw this posted on another forum and thought it might help people here understand how to use the Forum and get more benefit from being here:
Forum Tip: to reply to a post, please use the "Reply" button next to the message (the “arrow” button, second from the left), not the "Reply to the Original Message in this Topic" link.
Forum Tip: if you have a problem and would like the best personal attention from experienced forum members do not Hi- Jack someone else's post in an attempt to solve your own problem..... start your own topic.... on the surface a lot of problems appear exactly the same..... they very seldom are.... by all means add to someone else's thread but do not use it as a means of solving your own problem.
Forum Tip: try and describe your problem in your topic heading..... things like 'HELP' are useless.... many good people may pass your post without reading it.... and please, please supply vital info..... what computer, system, application.... version of.... what have you done to fix the problem..... give a full description of the problem and no SHOUTING or bumping allowed.
Forum Tip: I would also add that it is important that you proof-read your post asking for help before you hit that "post message" button. But if you do make a mistake, or discover that your post is unclear then use the "Edit" button to make changes. The "Edit" button is the one with the pencil on it.
Forum Tip: What do the different buttons by each message do?
From left to right, the function of each button is explained below: ??Envelope icon = Email this post. ?Curved arrow = Reply to this message. ?Pencil icon = Edit this message. ?Trash can = Delete this message. ?Purple ribbon with small + sign = Bookmark this post. ?Large - sign = Rate this post negative. ?Large + sign = Rate this post positive. ?Blue or gray bar = Display the ratings on this post. ?
Pause the mouse pointer on an icon and Help will be displayed.?
Forum Tip: From the Apple Help and Terms of use files.
State your question clearly. Include as much information as you can about your issue.
    At minimum, include:
The operating system you're using and its version.
The names and versions of other relevant products.
A complete description of computer and connected peripherals.
What you were doing when you ran into this issue.
Example: I'm using Mac OS X 10.3.4 on a 20-inch flat panel iMac with 768 MB of RAM and 15 GB free space on my hard disk. I have an X-brand PDA connected via its USB cradle. iCal 1.5.2 unexpectedly quits when I add an event.
Forum Tip: Test your answer. Make sure your answer works on your own computer before you post it. Do not guess.
Forum Tip: Spend some time reading the discussion forums before you post. In the case of the most common problems the question has already been answered and you can find the answer by using the "Search" field in the upper right corner of the page. A simply search on the forms will provide a solution to this problem.
TIP: Use the Apple Knowledge-base and Support pages for individual products. All of the most common problems can be solved by articles already posted to the K-BASE. Here is the link to the article providing the answer to the above example: Some songs in your iTunes library aren't copied to your iPod.
The Apple Support Pages are a wealth of information that can help you solve problems and learn about your Macintosh and Apple products.
Forum Tip: If you post a problem on the forums and then later on found the solution to it by yourself, and no one has posted in your thread, feel free to post in your thread letting others know how you solved the problem. This may help others who would otherwise need a solution for the same similar problem you had.

Hey Jeff just wanna thank you for taking your time making this post. I just wanted to say hopefully it will help a lot of people. But awhile ago I was thinking and probably will start soon a FAQ post where I add in the most commonly questions people post in here. For example:
What is the best protective case for the Nano?
*List many good sites with good cases*
How Do I reset my Nano?
Answere here...can't think on top of my head
Why wont my Nano turn on?
    Reset
Of course it will be more detailed but you see my point?

  • Seeking websites on Techniques For Shooting Good Footage

Can anyone here recommend a website with good ideas for how to shoot video? I now have a book to guide me for the making/editing of a movie: iLife '04: TEACH YOURSELF VISUALLY / Read Less - Learn More ....
.... but I also would like to learn some simple tips and advice for the actual shooting of footage.

17" flatscreen iMac, 1 GHz Power PC G4, 768 MB DDR SDRAM   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   LaCie external hard drive, 111 Gigabytes

A tutorial I like a lot is "Making Awesome iMovies",
the $40 video CD offered by dvcreators. It's easy to
    understand, entertaining, well planned, and
introduces both basic and not-so-basic steps of
    storyboarding, shooting and editing video.
Although the update for iMovie 5 is not yet
available, this video still gets two thumbs up from
    me.
    http://www.dvcreators.net/products/maim.html
(Don't miss the demo on that page.)
    Karl
I will take a look at that page, but at this point, I want free how-to tips on shooting a video. I plunked down my money on the VISUAL book on iLife '04, and that's gonna have to be enough for now. Probably techniques for taking home movies are a lot less difficult to absorb that all of the procedures in iMovie 4 and all the other programs.
Thank you for the suggestion. I will check it out now.

  • Tips for resolving photo chaos prior to installing Lightroom?

I tried and really liked the 30-day free trial of Lightroom 2 and I intend to buy it (or Lightroom 3 if it is released soon enough).  The fast photo enhancement capabilities were convincing enough, but I am also looking for a solution for managing my photo chaos.
My problem is that I have photos scattered everywhere - on my work laptop, on my desktop PC, on external hard drives, on CDs.  And I have duplicates everywhere but not all photos are duplicated.  I have completely lost sight of where photos are located.   I recently bought a Windows Home Server to make regular backups of my desktop PC and have manually moved loads of photos to the Server to make sure they are in a safe place (the folder is automatically duplicated on a separate drive) and share them with other family members.
In future with Lightroom, I envision importing my photos from the camera via Lightroom to my desktop PC and having Lightroom save a copy of the original  to my server for safekeeping.   But I am unsure of the best way to handle the existing photos.  Are there recommendations on how to prepare the existing chaos for importing them into Lightroom?  And can Lightroom recognize if exact duplicate photos are being imported from different sources?
I would be grateful for any tips, or pointers to tips on the web or books.

I can tell you how I handled a recent and similar project.  I wanted to gather together copies of all of my digital imaes including camera images, scans, and multiple iterations of art images going back many years.  I bought a new 2TB external drive and set up a folder called "Photos" to put everything in.  Personally, I like a bit of folder organization.  I set up folders for my personal photographs, stock, and client work (weddings, portraits, commercial).  I use a basic date folder system for the actual images within those folders:  YYYYMMDD-short description (20091225-John and Susan's wedding or 20050601-Hawaii trip).  That is the system I have always used so it was easy to copy those folders and loose images from hard drives, CD's, DVD's, zip drives, and even diskettes.  Once that was all done and everything was roughly sorted into those master folders, I began importing the images into LR.  I would do smaller sections at a time since my experience is that LR can choke when importing huge numbers of images at one time.  I was dealing with hundreds of thousands of images. Once imported, it is easy to see duplicates in LR (since I did a rough sort as I copied them in).  If the image metadata had the date in it, then I drag images not in folders to the correct date folder.  I just kept plugging thru it.  In the case of client work, I did not care as much if I had duplicates since it is unlikely I will need to access most of it.  I just deleted obvious duplicates, and left the rest alone.  My stock images (140,000+) took more time.  Different rendering of the same art images just got stacked together.  It took a few weeks of part time work plugging through the images, but now it is all cleaned up.
At least set up a simple system for importing the new work.  The date folder, even if you don't separate into other master folders (like I do with weddings, portraits, personal, stock, etc), is a simple way to keep things organized.  Also, set up a simple naming system for your images.  The biggest problems I had was the really old images from my beginnings in digital where I named things:  "big blue butterfly.jpg" and "big blue butterfly w/blur.jpg".  It made things very confusing to sort out.  Now I have a simple alpha-numeric system and variations just have -01, -02 etc. added on.  Often with virtual copies, I don't even need to have multiple copies.
    I hope that helps,
    John

  • Commercial rounding for capital goods

Commercial rounding off of all duties
All the Duties are rounded up in PO & MIGO with some routing development through ABAP.
Now client requirement is that in case of capital goods
    1.     If suppose that in Capital Goods Cenvat is Rs. 45.00, in same year only 50% credit is available hence Rs. 22.50 i.e. after rounding off it is available to us 23.00 and in on hold account only Rs. 22.00 should be available, but present SAP system does not propose the same
    2.     If Value of Secondary Education Cess is Rs.1/- for capital goods then credit available in current year should be Rs.1/- & on hold account it should be Zero
Business is saying that it is statutory requirement as per Govt. Notification
How much Govt is firm on this rule & how other companies are achieving this using SAP?
Another Question is that While reversing CENVAT credit taken for capital goods without rejecting material (Only Duty reversal because credit wrongly taken)
We have to pass Excise JV through J1iH & reverse 100 % duty. STD procedure is that   we have to transfer 50 % duty from Hold account to the RG23 C part 2 then reverse 100 % duty
But business is saying that it is wrong practice & against excise law .In this case  how to handle CENVAT on Hold Account.
( I have Already used OB90 & routing Number 17 is working fine but not for above case )
    Thanks
Edited by: sachin patil on Mar 10, 2009 7:00 AM

    Dear sachin ,
As far as I see, there is no loss to the company,
    1. you paid the vendor for the full excise amount
    2. As a manufacturing unit you are liable to take 100% credit
    3. IF you classify the material as capital goods as per your needs then take 50% now and 50% in next financial year
    4. If Raw material take 100% credit
    5. If the material  has been mistakenly classified as C and first 50% credit availed, then  to correct your operations you will have to take second 50% from J1IH then in that case you will have to clear all credit on hold from your original 50% credit entry & the J1IH entry, hence you will end up taking 100% credit.
In such conditions you can also opt for credit reversal through J1IH against the said part2 entry, & thenj create a fresh ID declaring material as raw material  & take fresh 100% credit. Here also that second 50% from the on hold account would be required to be cleared.
    Hope this helps,
    Regards,

  • Anyone have any idea which is the best application for taking notes and essay writting?

im starting my first year of university and i was wondering what would the best application for taking notes on be? and also whats the easiest, most reliable and effective way to transfer documents off the ipad? Any thoughts on printing aswell?
will be appreciating all the help i can get!

You're going to get as many answers to that question as there are people to answer it. You don't state if you want to take handwritten notes or if you will be typing. For handwritten notes, I really like Noteshelf. It has lots of export options, my favorite being to Evernote (which you might want to look into as well for storage). For typing notes, I'd go with Pages, Documents to Go or QuickOffice. For working with PDFs, I like PDF Expert.
I've recently heard good things about Note Anytime. It is free for a limited time, so it'st probably worth downloading to try out.

  • Tips For Solving the Mac OS X Lion Slowness (Lots of Beach Balls)

    Hi Folks,
Just a quick list of tips for this issue that some of Mac OS X Lion users face.
The main symptom is that we get the Beach Ball on almost any task, it takes 4, maybe five times more time to do what we need to do. So depending on the schedule, it can drive us crazy. I was facing that, and started to think that Lion was a Windows Vista relative.
Please remind that the tips below involve backing up and restoring your system. If you are not careful, you may lose everything. You are responsible for your acts. Be cautious!
    How I solved my issue:
    1) Checked for Disk Permissions and the Disk itself:
    - Applications / Utilities / Disk Utility:
    - Click on your disk, and then VERIFY DISK. If everything is OK, move on. If it is not, REPAIR DISK.
    - Now click on VERIFY DISK PERMISSIONS. If everthing is OK, move. If not, Repair.
This step 1 is to make sure that your slowness is due to something related to the OS itself and not to permissions/disk.
If this solves the slowness, then you are OK. Now further steps are necessary. In my case, this just helped a little bit. The beach-balling reduced by 20% only. Still too slow.
    2) Do a full backup of your system.
I used Time Machine. Make sure you have all of your applications closed. So the backup will be full. If you fail to do a good backup, you will lose everything! Make sure you do a good one. Maybe do it twice on 2 different disks! Now you have been warned.
    3) Do a Full Restore of your entire system.
Now, get that Install CD that came with your Mac,
    - Put it on your drive, shut down your computer.
    - While holding the C key, press the start button of your Mac. It will boot using the Install CD that came with your Mac.
    To recover your entire system:
Connect your Time Machine backup disk to your computer. If you’re restoring your system because of a problem with your startup disk, make sure the disk has been repaired or replaced.
Insert your Mac OS X Install disk, and double-click the Install Mac OS X icon.
In the Installer, choose Utilities > Restore System from Backup.
In the Restore Your System dialog, click Continue.
Select your Time Machine backup volume.
Select the Time Machine backup you want to restore.
    Follow the onscreen instructions.
    4) Remove the CD, and boot.
When I did that, the system came back very fast and responsive. No more beach balls (only on the really-intensive tasks), and everything was back to normal.
    5) So, what was it anyways?
Before doing this Backup/Restore, I was getting lots of DISK I/O ERRORS, specially during boot time (you can check that by shutting down your mac, powering it back on and imediatelly pressing Command-V - Verbose Mode).
Sure, the first thing in mind was that I had a faulty hard drive, but I checked it several times for errors (via Disk Utility), and nothing showed up.
So I decided to do a full backup/restore of the system. And it solved it, at least for me.
    My config:
    MacBook Pro (2009 edition) - 5 GB RAM - 640 GB HD - Mac OS X 10.7
    Regards.

Also my mac will not complete my 5 software updates, no idea which software, but it said it could not do it. Also backing up with time machine had failed twice today. Thanks

  • Uploading Production Requirements For Finished Goods From External System To Run MRP For Components in SAP.

    Hello Production Planning experts,
I'm looking to solve the current business problem:
The company bought a third party software (JD Edwards) to calculate production requirements instead of using SAP's standard Production Planning or a tool like SAP's APO. They run a batch job to query Sales Orders, Deliveries, available stock, stock in transit, etc. from sap and feed/upload it to the third party software so it can calculate the Finished Goods Production Requirements for them. They love the third party software, so replacing it is not an option. Since the third party software is already taking into account Sales Orders, Deliveries, available stock, stock in transit, etc. from SAP, it just outputs a "Finished Goods Production Schedule" by week.
    My questions are:
    1) What's the best way to upload something like that in SAP in the form of Planned Orders or something of that nature?
After i get that schedule in SAP:
    2) Is there any way to calculate components' requirements for that "Finished Goods Production Schedule" alone? The company would like to IGNORE existing stock AND expected-goods-issues in the future (sales orders, deliveries, etc) for Finished Goods ONLY. The components calculations would work the standard MRP way, taking into account existing stock and AND expected-goods-issues in the future (sales orders, deliveries, etc)
I started looking into Master Production Schedule (MPS), but I don't know if that's the right approach since I'm not very familiar with it.
Thanks in Advance! I will gladly reward points for helpful/correct answers.

    Hello Oscar
I suggest you to upload your production plan in the for of "Planned Independent Requirements" using BAPI BAPI_REQUIREMENTS_CREATE. Later, MRP will create planned orders to cover the PIRs.
If you don't want to consider the existing stock of the finished product, you should use the planning strategy 11 to create your PIRs. Take a look on the following link for more details about this planning strategy:
Gross Requirements Planning (11) - Demand Management (PP-MP-DEM) - SAP Library
Here you will find the following information:
The make-to-stock strategy gross requirements planning is particularly useful in mass production environments; it is often combined with repetitive manufacturing. This strategy is particularly useful if you need to produce, regardless of whether you have stock or not. For instance, steel or cement producers might want to use this strategy because they cannot shut down production; a blast furnace or a cement factory must continue to produce, even if this means having to produce to stock.
This strategy is also frequently used if there is a Material Requirements Planning system in a legacy system that needs to be linked to an SAP system which serves as a production execution system. The legacy system calculates a specific production plan, which has to be executed, regardless of the stock situation in the SAP system
It looks like this planning strategy is exactly what you are looking for.

Can I use an iPad for taking hand written notes using a stylus? Not a large stylus, but a one like Sumsungs.

Hi HawkeyeD1977, thank you for watching!
    1) I don't think you can really scratch the screen with the Jot Script. I don't have a screen protector, but I have reasons to think it will still work if you have one (I tried the Scrip through a think sheet of plastic, and I still works: more on that in my next video).
    2) It's true that the Script is noisy, but as I often say: have you ever tried to focus on the background noise of, say, a classroom? It is very noisy too! I'm always surprised by how good our brain is to filter background noises. So really, it depends on your environment and on the ability of your brain to filter noise. For me, I'd rather use a stylus that is a little noisy but very precise. It also depends on how you write text: as you can see on my video, I don't lift my pen very often, I write big groups of letters together.
    3) You should watch my latest video about that: I talk about Memo and Notes Plus. Memo has a handwriting technology that you can test for free, and buy as an in-app purchase inside Notes Plus, to use in a realy note-taking app. In Notes Plus, you can indeed convert just selected areas containing text.
    4) It won't have a text convertor, not in the next update. Maybe latter!
If you want more information about the Jot Script, stay tuned: by the end of the week, I will have uploaded a video to talk about the Scrip with more hindsight after one month.

  • Calendar - best tips for categories

I'm relatively new to Bberry.  Have a Storm2 now.  I use Outlook 2007 for my calendar, personal and business.  I'm a court reporter and enter in my Outlook calendar the court hearings for 3 or 4 different judges.  I use the color categories to easily track which hearing is before which judge.  Of course, my personal calendar events are also categorized.
I've come to learn that there's no way to get those categories to sync with my Storm.
So...I'm looking for advice from those of you who also keep busy calendars on your Bberry.   What's the best way for me to track these sorts of calendar appointments in Outlook so they'll be more useful to me on my Bberry?  I'm sure there are others of you out there who track meetings with different agency groups or something similar to what I encounter.   Maybe there's a better way for me to go about using my Outlook calendar that will work seamlessly with my Bberry calendar.
Thanks!  I'm hoping I don't have to reinvent the wheel.

Tips for beginners that I have taught in the past and from me:
0 - The debugger is your friend. Learn to use it, before you lean any more Java. REALLY!!!
1 - Do NOT use the GUI development tool in your IDE, Code it yourself.
2 - Read the Java Tutorials.
3 - Java arrays begin with index 0.
4 - Do NOT confuse leaning Java with learning to program. They are 2 distinct things.
The language is a tool, but knowing how to program is a skill that will apply to many different tools.
5 - There are more languages than Java, keep in mind each, including Java, were created for different tasks.
6 - Develop your own style.
7 - You are never done learning. NEVER.
8 - Don't be afraid to modify your style, when you see something elegant, adopt it, make it part of your style.
9 - If you're not having fun, you're doing the wrong thing.
10 - Math is a major part of programming: you can never have too many Math skills.
11 - Embrace the Java philosophy... write once, run anywhere a JVM exists.
12 - Dumb code is actually better: don't get overly involved in optimizing your code--write it clean--Java will do the rest.
13 - Learn to use your profiler, for when you really need to see if you can optimize. The problem is usually not where you think.
14 - No matter how good you are, someone is always better and faster--when you encounter them, learn from what they do and use the good parts.
15 - 800 lines of buggy code is not as good as 50 lines of clean, well designed code.
16 - Your teacher is not always right, but they give you the grades.
17 - Your boss may be an idiot, but he had the good sense, or lapse there of, to offer you a job and you accepted. He's your boss now, act like it, and help him look good--you'll go farther with a lot less stress. Also remember you future boss may want to contact him for a reference.

  • Tip for Bose SoundDock 10 Remote to play Aux input from Logic (or other)

Here is tip for live performance.
If you are using a Bose SoundDock 10 for playback in a live setting (where you want to minimize awkward public HiFi system tweaking) here is a tip.
The Bose SoundDock 10 plays plugged-in iPods (I use a Nano; 4th Generation) AND has a simple auxiliary in 1/8" port. But there is neither a volume nob NOR a volume meter for the Auxiliary signal.
So.. in the process of trying to create a predictable consistent output level
I experiment to see wether I should
    a) Count increment clicks from zero,
    b) Count increment-hold-seconds from zero,
    c) Use the iPod's volume level meter.
Wow! the iPod's level WILL set the auxiliary signal!! Yea!!
Problem: while toggling back and forth between
    1) iPod-input to SEE and SET level by sight, and
    2) Auxiliary-input to test the level by hearing,
you will inadvertently expose your set-up audience to load, undesired music.
This is because of a limitation of the Bose SoundDock remote control’s toggling behavior. You see, even if you PAUSE the undesired music before toggling from the iPod-input to the Auxiliary-Input, UPON TOGGLING BACK, to the iPod-input the Bose SoundDock remote AUTOMATICALLY DE-pauses. This, then subjects you and your unsuspecting audience to an annoying and distracting snippet of the least objectionable song you can remember to que up!
For that reason I suggest creating in Logic a "Sound of Silence" Song and exporting to iTunes. Thus, no iTunes library (or professional musician's iPod) is complete with out a 3 minutes of silence file for balance, check, and normalizing etc. Don't forget to attach a remember artwork.
You could also you this track on memorial day or at funerals.
    Good luck.

I greatly enjoyed Philip Norman's Lennon biography. He said Ono changed her mind about endorsing the book because (according to her) Norman "had been 'mean to John.' " Norman does say some candid things about Lennon's behavior as a parent.
